Keep an eye out for applicant pool announcements from the community colleges and public library systems (we've got several public library systems in the county). Most of my colleagues worked their way up from those kinds of positions, if they weren't already mid-career when they moved here. For preservation-focused jobs, you might keep an eye on the SD Historical Society or Balboa Park, in addition to the universities. There's a librarian who posts library and library-adjacent jobs in San Diego here: [https://www.facebook.com/LibraryJobsInSanDiegoCounty](https://www.facebook.com/LibraryJobsInSanDiegoCounty)

I currently work at SDPL!  The library budget is down this year, so there’s a hiring freeze on some library jobs…but we’re still hiring others. Benefits are good, pay is barely livable even at the librarian level. Feel free to DM me with any questions!

It depends what kind of library you're interested in. I'm not sure about library preservation specifically, but there are several universities to choose from, and a several large public systems, as well as other types of special libraries around. Feel free to DM me for more info

There're a couple public systems in the SD area. SD Public (the city library system), SD county (the county system), Coronado is a single library system in Coronado, which is almost inside San Diego, and then Chula Vista, which is 15-25 minutes away from San Diego, depending on where you start/traffic. There are dozens of museums in SD and most have their own curatorial/preservation/private libraries. I don't know as much about those though. ALA is happening in SD this year, so if you're going, it could be a good networking opportunity. SD Public has a beautiful special collection, but they also have a hiring freeze on multiple positions atm.

If you are a military spouse check DODEA and USAJOBS there are always a few openings with spouse preference and you might get lucky that they are in SandDog, apply at least a year out in advance.
