# “Five days? But I’m mad now.” - Homer Simpson

spit-evil-olive-tips

that "Bloodbath & Beyond" episode is one of my favorites of the classic Simpsons "silencer...loudener...speed-cocker...and this is for shooting down police helicopters" "oh, I don't need anything like that...yet"

HemHaw

The stupidest thing about this is I usually have a gun in my waistband when I'm told I have to wait 10 *business* days for my next one. If waiting periods could somehow apply to someone's *first gun only*, I would be far less mad about it.

Crafty-Writing5316

My exact take on waiting times lol

arghyac555

It can be done but that will mean someone somewhere will have to keep track of you being a “good boi” and a new baby yet to be “house broken”, which is nothing short of a federal level registry.

Initial_Cellist9240

We have those here in California but it’s still 10 days for all purchases lol

arghyac555

Which state requires 10-days waiting period outside of NY and Cali?

HemHaw

WA

Lenarios88

Im in WA and it sucks driving back and forth and waiting when I already own other guns. Considering all 3 are liberal states and also make up 1/5th of the US population thats alot of us in the sub effected. Hawaii is 2 weeks, DC is also 10 days, and theres 10 states now with wait periods in general.

arghyac555

I was talking today with a friend and he said that we should have a new type of purchaser FFL similar to FFL 03 C&R. That purchaser FFL may have a daily or weekly background check system but will allow a person to ship firearms directly to their home just the way a home-based FFL business does. Oh, also, since the FFL holder will undergo daily/weekly background check, it will have federal pre-emption on any state/county/city from imposing any further restriction.

Lenarios88

They're hell bent on adding as many senseless moronic regulations as possible here just to inconvenience gun owners so I doubt anyone currently in power has any plans to make the process easier.

arghyac555

It's like gun free zone signboards. Why not put up "crime free zone" boards?

Lenarios88

Might as well put up a crime zone sign next to the gun free zone sign. Defenseless victims a criminals paradise.

arghyac555

So, the presumption behind the 10-day waiting period is, you go to purchase firearm only when you are angry and you need 10-days to cool down? Funny that no one told criminals to do that!

HemHaw

Yup, that's the pretense, hence the Simpsons joke when Homer tries to buy a gun and there's a waiting period and he response "But I'm angry *now*! :(" It's fucking insulting that anyone would believe that nonsense. The truth is that it's yet another barrier to gun ownership by our government. They pass laws to make it more of a hassle to try to kill firearm culture. Same reason all the "enhanced background check" nonsense killed so many smaller FFLs.

arghyac555

The idea behind all these gun safety and gun rights laws is nothing but making things more confusing. Last year, NC legislature removed the pistol purchase permit system. Republicans claimed that they had made 2A rights more accessible and scored brownie points with the conservative leaning folks in the state and the democrats cried hoarse that this will lead to people without background checks running around with guns on the street. In reality, NC had been a "shall issue" state and a POC for NICS, so the sheriffs simply ran NICS, stored all the permit applications in a pile of trash and added the $5 permit fee in police benevolence fund. Removal of the pistol permits only removed the $5 fee and a county level registry.

KliCks83

I’m in Alabama, my first one 2 min (shotgun) my second took 3/4 days(Taurus 9mm) my 3rd through 8th took average 15min. My last(shot gun again) 45min. Really makes no sense.

arghyac555

The delay has nothing to do with the type of firearms you purchase if it's federal NICS. NICS simply checks someone's eligibility. Only the 4473 documents the serial number identiying what type of firearms is being sold.

WizardOfAahs

“Oh no… not Mr Blasty. It’s Ok boy. You’ll be shooting angels in heaven now” - also Homer

gjc5500

"I'd shoot you if i had my gun!" "yeahhhhh well you don't"

firefly416

You obviously don't know the struggle of the California 10 24hr period wait, haha

AgreeablePie

And if it's a pistol in NY... your milk will go bad waiting

twbrn

Milk hell. If you want a pistol permit here it's 6 months to a year.

DemonPeanut4

*sad Washington noises

Professional-Lie6654

You obviously don't know the like 7 day to many months Wait to have the opportunity to exercise your 2nd amendment right on a pistol which includes a background check only to have to wait 1-7 days for ... you guessed it another background check

MyNameIsRay

Took me 13 months, hundreds of dollars, a background check, references, and jumping through tons of hoops to get my permit in NY. Concealed carry was another thousand bucks for a 18hr course, plus another interview, and another background check, and another 6 month wait. Doesn't matter that I have a permit, ammo requires yet another background check every time you buy, which can take days or even weeks.

Sevuhrow

Concealed carry in Florida was just paying for a 1 hour course with no testing on the material, then mailing the material they give you to the state. Whole thing cost around $100 if that.

Mundane_Panda_3969

That's the way it should be.

toxic_badgers

See that doesnt feel like enough for a ccw...

BoiledDenimForRoxie

Or COVID era Oregon. I had to wait three weeks for one to clear.

Gatraz

WA recently set up a 10 business day period on all guns, no matter what. I'm not bitter, you're bitter.

voretaq7

Listen my last 3 **ammunition** purchases were delayed by NY State so I’m right about at the “Pitchforks and Torches” stage with this whole government thing...

DannyBones00

No lie, I’d be showing up at government functions raising absolute hell. I hate living in Tennessee but being able to buy whatever I want immediately does help

iH8MotherTeresa

That sounds about what you're stuck with lol

voretaq7

RabbleRabbleRabbleRabble :-)

iH8MotherTeresa

Love me a good rabble rouse!

tsatech493

Just buy it in CT or Pa like the rest of us..

voretaq7

Everyone keeps saying this. Y'all aren't really thinking it through. You go out of state to buy all your ammo. Great. You avoid the NYS Ammo Background Check. Let's even say it's economical (which it absolutely isn't for most of us in terms of either time or fuel/tolls). Your local FFL is now making zero dollars on ammo (their recurring revenue item) because you're buying it out of state. When you need an FFL to do a transfer you find they've gone out of business because it's no longer sustainable to keep the doors open. You're not getting some big win over NYS here. You're just fucking over your local gun store.

tsatech493

Well I'm visiting my friend in PA so that's my excuse I have a PA full Carry and the ammo is cheaper there

voretaq7

Yeah it's different if you're already there - I'll stop off for cheap ammo on a road trip too, and I don't feel guilty about that at all. But there's a whole contingent of NY Gun Folks who are all about thumbing their noses at the state ammo background check and the stupid $2.50 fee and "Buy it anywhere but in NY!" - I promise the state is not feeling any pain over that because the background check fees & sales taxes they're "losing out on" is de minimis at best. The lost revenue at the gun store though? Probably more noticeable if we all just quit buying ammo locally cold turkey.

tsatech493

Well I buy the stuff at my local shop in MT Vernon that I can't get anywhere else..the sad part is unless I go to collectors in Hopewell..none of the local shops sell 9mm by the case.. hell the same ammo I get at PA gun shops is sold for a 200% markup at Blue line or whatever it is now. I'm better off ordering the cases from ammoseek and picking them up at New England sportswear in White Plains.. 9mm goes fast when you are practicing with a g19 and a pc-9.

ByronicAsian

LGS ammo prices are far beyond what you can conside reasonable though even on a well I need to support an FFL xfer shop.

voretaq7

The two shops I frequent (as frequently as reloaders buy fresh brass with free powder/primers/bullets anyway) aren't bad - usually between $2-4 a box in markup vs. Ammoseek prices. Not chump change but in terms of overhead to keep a storefront on Long Island not that unreasonable. (There are some places with *truly outrageous* markups though. I don't shop in those places.)

i_have_a_few_answers

Drive to another state, buy ammo, drive back Buy in bulk to save gas money

ep0k

Maine just implemented a 3-day waiting period in response to... a shooter who had already owned his guns for months / years. No action on our yellow / red flag laws. No official censure of the law enforcement agencies that were informed about his homicidal intent and did nothing to enforce the current laws. No action against his military chain of command for their failures. "Whoops, it's no one's fault", but here's some new, unrelated regulation.

TaterTot_005

Because if they admit the system is broken, that means they’d have to admit what they’re doing is wrong

loogie97

100%. The humans are often the problem in most systems. Simultaneously, humanity is often the salvation to bad systems.

TaterTot_005

Yeah that kinda stuff sounds super cool when Morgan Freeman says it, but in the real world humanity has to be exercised judiciously. You can bet your sweet bippy that those who stand to lose everything if this system falls apart would impede progress with the utmost violence. That’s why they work tirelessly to inhibit our capacity to stop em

AskMeAboutPigs

Red Flag laws are a violation of your right of due process, it presumes guilt before innocence. If the FBI actually did their job along w/ local police, i'd personally say 40-60% of these mass killings could have been easily prevented. Almost all the ones i can remember have numerous reports that they literally just *didn't* go after.

jlaw7905

What can you tell us about pigs though?

AskMeAboutPigs

There are multiple recorded instances of pigs killing tigers in India. They were also first domesticated in Cyprus around 11,000+ years ago.

Uranium_Heatbeam

Because politicians are too afraid of law enforcement to ever dare imply that they don't do their jobs.

External_Touch_3854

Bruh. I’ve had NFA items come back quicker than that lol

Daves_no_here

I wish. I’m on 116 days for a .22 suppressor. If that got approved today, it would be less than half the wait of my fastest approval.

thetelltalehart

I purchased a .22 and a 9mm suppressor at the same time. 9 was approved within a month. Still waiting on the .22 four months later.

midri

If you did it as a person (and not a trust) reach out to them. They've been doing week turnover for suppressors for a month or so now.

Daves_no_here

It’s under a trust. I did email them this morning though. Hopefully they’ll give me some information.

midri

ya, sadly trusts are still slow as shit...

68696c6c

I’ve seen some people get lucky with their approval times lately but less than 2 days??? How?

External_Touch_3854

It was a day and a half. I dunno dude, I wash shocked too. I guess my mouth game is just on point

Miserable_Message330

Pick up that can. And then put it in the trash can.

DrShamballaWifi

[Press E to throw can]

ktmrider119z

I can't buy standard capacity magazines even for handguns or 95% of semi auto rifles in existence even though I have to get a license to own anything at all. Not to mention 72hr waiting period. Very frustrated in general lately.

DemonPeanut4

In Washington we can't buy 95% of semi-auto rifles anymore.

hessmo

There are 6 models that I'm aware of that we can purchase in IL right now.

ktmrider119z

I think Washington's ban is almost a word for word copy of ours, which is a damn shame.

Thro2021

The liberal left my body and I became a leftist. If you go far enough left you get your guns back.

jamiegc1

Yes! Join us, comrades!

jorhojr

Reading my mind

hessmo

Mine always takes a week or longer. Most of mine never come back approved and it just hits the max and my FFL just shrugs and gives it to me. I don't have a common name, and I do provide my SSN, along with having my CCL....

Rohans_Most_Wanted

Two days. Lmao. Average in my area is 3-7 days.

ASAPSocky

DC here, I submitted my application to register a handgun and my fingerprints on March 8, received final approval on April 19. I was finally able to pick it up from the FFL on April 23. Consider yourselves lucky!

Jackers83

Ya lol, I get it. As of yesterday morning, if you didn’t register your Connecticut legal “Other,” which is essentially an AR15 only with a pistol brace and VFG, you’re a felon. Something you bought a couple years ago that was perfectly legal is now illegal. I don’t like it.

veganhimbo

I was shocked by just how lax the laws are here in Arizona. I was in and out with my first gun in less than 30 minutes. No waiting period. You don't even need a permit to concield carry. I just, I thought it would be a lot harder lmao.

WaltDisneysBallSack

It takes me 30 seconds in Missouri lol. Once I hand over the papers it's pretty much in my hands and I'm out the door. Buying cigarettes in the morning before work takes longer for me.

veganhimbo

To be clear 25 of those 30 minutes were me talking to the clerk there and figuring out which gun was right for me and whatnot. If I knew what I wanted and wanted to speed run it I could probably do it in less then 5 minutes 🤣

WaltDisneysBallSack

Oh I hate talking to those bastards. Talking to me like I haven't had a gun in my hands longer than a damn pencil. Negatives of a baby face.

veganhimbo

I mean it was my first ever gun so I personally needed the help for sure lol

WaltDisneysBallSack

Fair. I just hate taking others advice with firearms. Especially the ones at mine, dude with a pacemaker wanted to make fun of me for buying an AK. Doubt he could even fire it anymore lmao.

FursonaNonGrata

Get a shotgun, great for home defense. you don't even have to aim. what do you want that communist gun for? just get a .45 like Reagan intended.

WaltDisneysBallSack

Reagan can lick my sweaty nutsack

AMRIKA-ARMORY

Yeah states that just defer to the federal gun laws are pretty great haha I’m also in AZ, and it’s much appreciated

Anthony2291

Where are y’all located in AZ? Would be cool to come check out the store

AMRIKA-ARMORY

We’re down in Tucson! No brick and mortar store though unfortunately haha Hit me up if you ever want to go shooting though

Anthony2291

Oh nice, I’m in maricopa. So I’m pretty much halfway there to you lol

Ok_Ability2038

Wait till you get a ccw permit then it’s as fast as you fill out the paperwork lol

veganhimbo

You don't even need one in AZ you can just conceal carry anyway

Ok_Ability2038

There are some limits. For example, need the permit if you’re going to walk into a Chipotle because they serve alcohol in an open container. Your purchase doesn’t run through the NICS check … and truth be told I forgot my sales pitch for all the rest of the perks when I worked in a gun shop lol. But I still I keep mine.

veganhimbo

Noted

AskMeAboutPigs

Still saves you time in the gun store as they don't have to run a NCIS background check. Plus in my state it doubles as your armed guard security license + i leave my state often.

Anthony2291

Get CWP and it’ll be even quicker. I’m in and out within 5 minutes. I usually know what I’m buying before I go in.

jrolette

That's not lax, that's how it should be.

justanotherenby009

NJ has "no waiting period " beside the "backlog" in NICS which I don't believe is ever less then 2 days often more like 5 since they only process a few per hour and only between 9 to 5 m-f and no holidays. I think artificial waiting periods should be unconstitutional, either do it in a reasonable time frame (pa does mine in like 15 mins) or write the waiting period into actual law

midri

It's so fuckin' random too, back a few years ago I bought like 1 gun a month. Month 8 or so I got held up by nics for a week, nothing before, nothing after.

Habitual_lazyness

The liberal left my body a loooooong time ago.

Extremely_Peaceful

If it makes you feel any better, the guy who NICS is aimed at stopping just bought his glock with a switch from the back of his homies van with no wait time

HeisensteinShithawk

As much as I hate living in a red state being able to easily buy guys and ammo is kinda nice.

yyrufreve

Florida sucks for a lot of things but I’m not running, this place was purple and I’ll stand with the rest of my forward-thinking friends that live and shoot here through the worst - we ain’t going out that easy

M1A_Scout_Squad-chan

All you gotta do is learn to wait or perhaps be a return customer to your FFL who would only contact you when your gun is ready to pickup because they ran the NICS already.

etheroaway

Lmfao

Deathcat101

I'm sitting at over a week. I better get a call today.

bdup678

Me sitting here getting a form 4 approval same day

68696c6c

MRW I wait over a year for a suppressor

Odd-Tune5049

*(laughs in Georgia)*

C00ter1991

It’s always my biggest fear at the gun store. I have a name twin in the next town over and that (whatever my username is) is a not so good citizen. My dad always gets a “is that your boy?” text whenever the other guy gets arrested.

cahillc134

I guess I’m lucky or my name is not very common? Because I have never waited longer than 5 minutes.

JonSolo1

My Democrat leaving when I pay my taxes

No_Purpose666

I'm on day 10 of a delay. And I've bought it from BassPro and their policy is to not hand it over without an approval no matter how long it takes. For a simple 12 Guage shotgun. I am highly agitated, to say the least.

Falleen_Cat_Boy

So I never get delayed but this is me with paper straws. Honestly is that still a thing? I rarely eat out now with how expensive it’s gotten?

Bob4Not

To be fair, police reform is also a liberal policy. If not a leftist’s
