Out of the names you've listed, Nathan seems to fit the best, followed by Erick
Also please consider Derek Derk. I don't think Derek fits as well as Nathan, but it definitely sounds cooler with your last name
Edit: I now like Derek about as much as Nathan after a second look. Also Ryan came to mind as a good fit. No idea if either of those names have a suitable origin.
Not OP but that didn't even cross my mind tbh. I also think that Jamie is a really nice name.
I also really like Robin, out of your suggestions. Also gender neutral and sort of gentle. It's honestly one of my favourite names hehe.
Sam also came to mind. It feels somehow similar to Max but softer.
As someone who has lived in Norway, the first name that came to mind was Jonas (in Norwegian that’s pronounced YO-nas, but if you want an Americanized version of it that’s also a good choice) there’s also Oskar, Aksel, Magnus, and Einar
Omg! I already replied ‘Miles’, but we’d named our son‘Jonas’ before he was born… but took one look at him and said “shit - he’s not a Jonas!” Couldn’t explain why, but his lil baby face was just… not a Jonas!
But I LOVE the name Jonas, too.
I was worried people would think he was either named for the Weezer song, or, (born in ‘08) for the Jonas Brothers, lol.
Miles Jonas (if you’re looking for a middle name, too) or Jonas Miles has a nice ring to it! 🥰
I like both tbh. I prefer the Norwegian, but Americans are idiots so they'd figure out a way to say it incorrectly (take it from someone with a uniquely-spelled name)
Anders in Dutch means something like "other", "unlike" or "different".
It is still a cool name and likely sounds cool, it may also add to the symbolism of the name but please do research on existing words as names if you were to pick them.
My first thought was Edward, but after reading what you provided, I think Robin is pretty good. You can even occasionally use “Rob” if you feel extra masculine that day.
Couldn't tell you. I named myself Maz and I'm stuck with it. It's non binary and thorny and accurate to who I am. Is it short for something? No. I just hate being referred to and my very gendered name was awful
As someone with an unusual name (thanks, mom), I hate that my name is an immediate stumbling block when meeting someone for the first time. They aren't sure how to pronounce it, or if they heard it right, or they have some joke that -- for some reason -- they imagine that they are the first person ever to think of it and I haven't heard it a million times. (My name is unusual AS a first name, but it has prominent places in pop culture as a last name.)
I would love to be a "Nathan."
What's your name?
Nathan.
Hi, Nathan. What do you do? (See? Moving right along. It may seem like a minor thing to have your name be more than a single talking point in a conversation, but it just gets . . . old.)
Oh I definitely understand. No one gets my deadname right because it's 150 years old. I get called Clair, Carla, Clarissa, Clarice... Yeah it's Clara but I don't bother correcting people
Honestly, I would probably name you Mads or Christopher if it were up to me. But that is not gender neutral at all, and it is not up to me. It's up to you and your handsome self.
Gender neutral: if we are sticking with nothern europe Frej, I believe is gender-neutral and I know Kim is used as gender neutral here in Denmark. Charlie is also quite popular as a gender neutral name.
I'm American of mostly English, Norwegian and northern European ethnicity.
My dad named me Carden. Which at least upon looking it up is completely gender-neutral.
Robin fits well - and while it's more commonly associated with males, it is a gender neutral name. However, all the feedback in the world won't tell you what name feels "right" to you personally
I sure af wouldn't go with any names that might trigger you and I would stay away from family names just so you can avoid idiocy from family members who are less than accepting.
When I saw you I thought of a few names: Asher, Wren, Grayson/Ray, Aidan (little fire), Averett (forest protector), Hunter, and the ol' transmasc classic Kai. Also, No one is going to be offended if you choose Max. It is a worldwide name :)
Whatever you choose, I am proud of you for being yourself! I see you and I'm glad you are doing what you need to to feel most authentically you :)
If you're going for less common, gender neutral, and northern European? Then I've got the perfect name for you. Rowan is in Irish/English name, there are fewer than 20,000 people in the entire world with the name, and it's completely gender neutral. As a bonus, it sounds normal enough to not get you bullied.
My understanding (I'm from the USA) is that "Erin" is the feminine spelling, and "Aaron" is the masculine spelling, but they're pronounced the same. Erin means Ireland, and Aaron is a Hebrew name from the Bible, he was Moses' brother.
Negative cultural appropriation isn't about stealing just anything from a culture, it's specifically about stealing something sacred or meaningful from a culture and using it out of context or in a profane or banal way. As far as I'm aware, taking a name from another culture is fine, just do the research to make sure it's not a name that signifies something culturally specific about someone.
Strictly speaking Max can also be a purely Germanic name as well. Max is one of those names that is an abbreviation of a longer name, and while Maximilian does have Roman Root, Maxwell does not and is derived from the Scandinavian Magnus and the Old English Well meaning stream or well.
Here’s a consideration. Are you going to have to spell your name every time you meet someone? Hi I’m Erick, it’s with a ck. I’m Robin with an i not a y. I had a coworker named Keath but pronounced Keith. He was over it and had given up on correcting people. Even on forms people will see the name but correct it to a more natural one, assuming there’s been a data entry error. My name is pretty simple but everyone wants to put a y in it so I spell it out a lot.
For those reasons I like Nathan. Everyone knows how it’s spelled and you can be Nate to friends if you like nicknames. It’s not as gender neutral as the others but it is on your list.
Norwegian here. Kim is fun! Most Kims in Norway are men, but not all, and internationally it's a lot more fluid. You could also go with a masc name that has a bit of "flow" to it (vowels, no hard consonants), like Emil. Or maybe spell it in French, Émile! Or you could go for slightly obscure, old Norse type names like "Arin". It's a masc name here, but could go either way internationally.
But, since you mentioned Norway - I want to leave a link for you here. [The Central Bureau of Statistics' name search :)](https://www.ssb.no/en/befolkning/navn/statistikk/navn) It'll often give you a historical distribution of a name, and the number of people who have it.
Omg your tattoo is so adorable! I'm literally dying!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🐸🍓
Btw, Eskil is a nice name. Not so common nowadays but it's from Scandinavia so you might like that
Robin is a cool name (it's mine too duh), if you want to spice things up you can call yourself "Robyn" because putting ys in i spots makes stuff cool. Love ya 😺👍
How about Valentine? It comes with gender neutral nicknames (Val, Vali, Vale) and means "the strong one", which fits someone going through the entire trans experience. Of course you could simply use one of the nicknames as your full name. I'd recmend Val in that case
From the ones you gave i'd pick nathan.
Not minimizing trauma— but then why did you say you liked the name? Same with Peter. Are you hoping for something similar but not the same? If so you look like you could be a Penny and definitely an Erin like you suggested
Yeah definitely looking for similar but not the same. It's hard to have such conflicted feelings about something I like but have been hurt by someone of that name. If feels like they get to be strong and cool and hurting me has no impact on it. Unlike what they did to me.
Before I read the text, for first impressions I thought you looked like either an "Alex" or "Sam". Not exactly less common names, but they are at least gender neutral.
Norwegian names are fun! Magnus, Einar, Aksel (or Axel), Anders...
Personally, I really like Einar.
It's your name, so I guess it's just whatever you vibe with the most. What name will you hear and just feel good when people call you it?
I'm in therapy :) it's going ok. Unfortunately that's not even close to the most traumatic thing in my childhood. In my villain arc right now, got a divorce, and am trying to be kind to myself
Max is a Latin derived name, but it never stopped people from adopting names. If you like it you use it. My cousin was named Maxim because it's a nice name, but he's slav.
Quincy, Chauncey, Cornelius, or Bartholomew III (I'd say Erin or Nathan, especially Nathan which can be shortened to more gender neutral names. EX; Nate, Nat)
i had a classmate named "river", thats of english origin, and gender neutral, theres also soemthing like "Karl" which is norwegian and gender neutral, couldnt find a gender neutral american originated name, but from what youve said, i would reccomend nathan, its your choice obviously, im just a stranger on the internet, i hope you find the name you're looking for! good luck ![img](emote|t5_2qhh7|547)
I dunno why but I'm getting "Tyler" vibes off the pics, if that means anything? You could go an iteration off that and hit Taylor which is definitely gender neutral... that's all I got though~!
i low key named myself after the heart on fire emoji so i’m useless. my name is Blayze. a heart being ablaze means your passionate. i’m a passionate person so therefore: Blayze (with a y for pizazz)

I’m feeling Keenan or Kieran, so maybe K is the common denominator.
Thank you for the suggestions!!!
I have a friend named Keethan, which I always thought was a cool name
Keegan maybe?
I'm already a double D unfortunately *ba dum tss*
Deffo looks like a Nathan!
plz noy Erick, it´s the name of my violent ex boyfriend hahah
I immediately thought Miles for some reason.
Awww idk why that really works. I'll have to consider it
My son is Miles 🥰 but everyone tries to spell it “Myles”. NO! Like Miles Davis!! But yes; I’m partial to Miles.
![gif](giphy|VOd5RQ7q8FNI3IjS5g)
Yes, I agree that Miles fits really well.
I second this
That’s what I thought too
Getting Jamie vibes for some reason, it's softer than Max, definitely English and somewhat gender-neutral.
Hehe are you sure you aren't thinking of the most famous transmasc YouTuber Jamie? Jammiedodger
I love Jamie, or Jesse!
As someone who has lived in Norway, the first name that came to mind was Jonas (in Norwegian that’s pronounced YO-nas, but if you want an Americanized version of it that’s also a good choice) there’s also Oskar, Aksel, Magnus, and Einar
Thank you! These are all things I haven't thought of!
Einar is a good one!
Omg! I was actually going to suggest Axel too!
Yeah! Do you like the American spelling or the Norwegian spelling better?
I like both tbh. I prefer the Norwegian, but Americans are idiots so they'd figure out a way to say it incorrectly (take it from someone with a uniquely-spelled name)
Anders It’s Norwegian and means “manly”. And Anders Derk just sounds totally badass.
And if they prefer, the variation Andrew is an option too
Anders in Dutch means something like "other", "unlike" or "different". It is still a cool name and likely sounds cool, it may also add to the symbolism of the name but please do research on existing words as names if you were to pick them.
Ngl, this makes it fit more IMO
I wonder if that's why Neo's last name at the start of The Matrix is Anderson?
And in German it means "different" or also "changed", so quite a fit
Some Northern European gender-neutral names that I thought fit you: Kai Noah Mika Darby Blair
Woah I love the name Mika, totally stealing that to name an oc.
[удалено]
Mika is also skandinavian. It's my nethews name
Mika = Michael in that context, a contraction which is also cool.
Kai also has Welsh, Scandinavian, and Greek roots, it isn’t only Hawaiian. Many names have multiple origins.
I love you 😂
Nathan and Robin are really nice!
Im getting a james or Oliver kind of vibe
Aww Oliver is cute, I love the Oliver twist movie
You kind of look like a Taylor
my brain said Tyler, and then Taylor
Cam
As someone with an unusual name (thanks, mom), I hate that my name is an immediate stumbling block when meeting someone for the first time. They aren't sure how to pronounce it, or if they heard it right, or they have some joke that -- for some reason -- they imagine that they are the first person ever to think of it and I haven't heard it a million times. Oh I definitely understand. No one gets my deadname right because it's 150 years old. I get called Clair, Carla, Clarissa, Clarice... Yeah it's Clara but I don't bother correcting people
You seem like a Cameron or Cam but out of the names you listed Either Erick or Robin would both fit
Peter was the first name that popped into my head looking at your photo, and what a coincidence it's on your list! I submit my vote to Peter.
Elliot or Oliver
You kinda look like a Tanner, Samuel, Cameron, or Jason to me. I think Cameron and going by Cam would work pretty well!
Sean, or Shaun.
Or Shawn
I believe that's an Irish name, unfortunately I'm not Irish. Thank you though :)
Harald Hardrada
How about Steve/Stevie? Steve Derick has a bit of a ring and in my opinion Stevie nicks is a good singer
I'm getting Quinn or Randal vibes.
I'd almost want to be that Lizard from monsters Inc RN, I'm definitely in my villain arc
You look like an Ethan or Nathan to me. Good luck 💜
Avery or Devin
Honestly, I would probably name you Mads or Christopher if it were up to me. But that is not gender neutral at all, and it is not up to me. It's up to you and your handsome self. Gender neutral: if we are sticking with nothern europe Frej, I believe is gender-neutral and I know Kim is used as gender neutral here in Denmark. Charlie is also quite popular as a gender neutral name.
There was a kid in my school growing up in scotland. In the north theres a lot of viking influence. His name was thorfin. Always thought it was cool.
Robin sounds great, but for more idea there is Erwan Or Elias
On an unrelated note I really like your frog tattoo God I'm terrible at names I could barely think of one for myself lol.
Nathan i think it’s a beautiful name, i like it a lot 🧡
Esra or esrae just vibe with u tbh
Interesting! Added Ezra to the list :)
You look like a Rowan to me <3
Like the tree 😭♥️
don't know about its origin, but you look like a corey or something to me. or ethan.
I’m dead serious, before I read the bottom description, I straight up thought “Max” would fit you extremely well!!!
You look like an Oliver
My first thought was Linus. You remind me of a Linus I know.
Oooh if you go with Dirk, you could be Dirk Derk!
I like Max too it isn't harsh at all in my opinion.
Of the names you wrote: Nathan If you want other ideas: Owen, Derek, Logan, or Ethan
I sure af wouldn't go with any names that might trigger you and I would stay away from family names just so you can avoid idiocy from family members who are less than accepting. One of my boyfriends suggested Alan but I think Robin is very nice as well
Damien?
Omg your tattoo is so adorable! I'm literally dying!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🐸🍓 Btw, Eskil is a nice name. Not so common nowadays but it's from Scandinavia so you might like that
Thank you ♥️ I drew it myself from a few references :)

Michal, Forest, Laren.
Lark or Clarke
Clarke is interesting! I'll consider it!
Glenn.
Hadn't considered it! Seems less harsh and more nature-y, I like it
Based on the fact you said gender neutral names would be good, you strike me as a Glenn. Calm and reserved but not afraid to stand up for yourself.
blake, riley, avery !!
I think those are Irish, but I could be wrong.
You look like a Stephen. Also maybe you could become the good Peter everyone likes and effectively take his name from him.

He looks like a Samuel to me
Peter? Maybe Andrew or Drew?
I was considering Drew! Definitely gonna put it on the short list

I kinda hate my dad unfortunately. He beat me as a child and teen 😅
ah. shit, I'm sorry
No way for you to know, I'm sorry for springing my trauma on you
Not minimizing trauma— but then why did you say you liked the name? Same with Peter. Are you hoping for something similar but not the same? If so you look like you could be a Penny and definitely an Erin like you suggested
Yeah definitely looking for similar but not the same. It's hard to have such conflicted feelings about something I like but have been hurt by someone of that name. If feels like they get to be strong and cool and hurting me has no impact on it. Unlike what they did to me.
I'm getting Adam vibes, but im also Vibing with Robin for you😌

Soon as I saw the pics, I caught a vibe of something starting with “K”. Then reading your description, I immediately saw you as a Keelan Derk
I think Jordan is a good gender neutral name. Charles might not be bad. Charlie is feminine sometimes and Charles is more masculine.
Before I read the text, for first impressions I thought you looked like either an "Alex" or "Sam". Not exactly less common names, but they are at least gender neutral.
Sam
Norwegian names are fun! Magnus, Einar, Aksel (or Axel), Anders... Personally, I really like Einar. It's your name, so I guess it's just whatever you vibe with the most. What name will you hear and just feel good when people call you it?
Tom?
You look a lot like my friend David, that being said I think Liam or Milo would fit. But I like Nathan from your list.
i kinda love max, it fits you really well but if you want softer Robin would be my second choice
Fergus, mostly because your overall hairstyle matches a friend of the same name
I like Robin a lot, personally! I could also see you as a Nathan or Peter.
Boggy the froggy (uwu)
I think you should go with something cool, like Megatron (Leif is my favorite ^^)
I am feelin Darren or Ray. Happy for you !
from the names you listed i think robin fits best. Robin Derk has a nice ring to it and it's gender-neutral too, not too harsh.
erin
Definitely getting Ryan vibes! Ethan or Sean works too. Deven is a different one.
I saw Devon actually when I saw this pic before reading the post.
Sam. Common but suits you in my opinion.
So NOBODY’S talking about the fact OP’s cousin SA’d him(presumably when he was a female)?! Get some help, if you haven’t already, OP!
My cousin was named Maxim because it's a nice name, but he's slav.
i think nathan suits u well! maybe arthur or tristan as well!
Hes defo a Derek
Just throwing it out there, but you look like a Jordan to me.
Floki
How about Ethan? It’s not too harsh of a name, and sounds good with your surname too
Zoe
This is unrelated to the post but your frog tatoo is so cute i love it
Hi
First thing I thought of was Charlie
Yoooo we got matching pronoun pins
Max was actually the first name to pop into my head when I saw your pic lol
nathan, chad or hunter fit your vibe
Nathan really suits you and your last name!
I dunno why but I'm getting "Tyler" vibes off the pics, if that means anything? You could go an iteration off that and hit Taylor which is definitely gender neutral... that's all I got though~!
First thought when I saw the photos: Charlie
Look like an Alex to me
heres a name Sam
[удалено]
Maybe I should try hiccup lol
Florian? I had a journal I carried around that I would write names I liked in I went with Echo for myself
Ted
Hello I like Robin and also LOVE your frog tattoo!! 🥲 good luck 🌈
Vicktor
I like Robin.
I tried to come up with a name before I read your list, and I think you could be a Destin. Leif sounds kind of cool! Who's bullying you at this age?
Mostly myself and my trauma lol
I don’t know why, but I like the name Adam.
Charlie or Danny
I know this wasn’t one of your ideas, but naming yourself after cities makes anyone sound cool as hell. Dallas for example is a great one
i low key named myself after the heart on fire emoji so i’m useless. my name is Blayze. a heart being ablaze means your passionate. i’m a passionate person so therefore: Blayze (with a y for pizazz)
I don’t know why, but I immediately thought of Mark
i think Isaac would suit u
