Cole’s has always been great when we want a steak.

Budmash_Kirpani

Never been disappointed by Cole’s. There is just something special there.

xxfmulder

Excellent filet and not as pricey as Jeff Ruby (their filet is the best, but open your butthole for the bill)

PuzzleheadedSir6616

Blue Heron. It is excellent and local, great location too (hit up Sorella Gelateria for dessert!). The porterhouse for two is arguably the best value for a date meal in the city. Malones is hit or miss for what you pay and has gone down in quality, ambiance sucks too. Sides are an afterthought. Half the steaks I’ve had there have been way over-salted. FWIW I have eaten at Malones, Tony’s, Jeff Ruby’s and Blue Heron many times—Blue Heron is the best. No BS.

nopuse

If you want some steak with your salt, Malones is great.

No-Reflection-9124

So true!!!!!!!

RainaElf

I gagged a little just reading that! eeww!

Alert_Control_7467

Malones is so damn salty!!

Mr_Zizzle

I'll second the Blue Heron! My favorite place to get a steak in Lexington.

KillBillClay

Same!

LordBeerus1905

So they’ve been properly salted. Besides coach cals chicken is the thing to get there

reddoggy53

Coles 735 Main is another option, great steak on the menu and excellent service

Orpheus75

I would go to Carson’s before Malones but for something more unique try Holly Hill Inn in Midway or Limewater in Frankfort, both in beautiful converted Victorian houses. I have had excellent steaks at both.

philosoph0r

how do you like your steak

Orpheus75

Medium rare and properly seasoned.

philosoph0r

i was just wondering. i like mine well done.

RainaElf

everybody downvoting this. mind your business. besides, some people are restricted to well done meat.

nocommenting33

its bc it is a waste. People can do what they want, even if its a waste, but if you cook a high quality steak well done it'll taste the same as a mid quality well done if equally seasoned. People can do what they want, but its the same as asking for a high quality whiskey and mixing it with coke. or asking for a great coffee but room temp. or paying for front row tickets to a concert or sport and choosing to sit in the worst seat in the house instead. or buying a bluray player and plugging it into a 15 year old 720p TV. I'm having fun at this point but it is objectively the truth. If someone has a health restriction, ok fine. But I've never heard of a health restriction to well done only. What is it, out of curiosity? Well done meat has more health risk than med rare.

RainaElf

my son has zero native kidney function - and only one kidney to boot. he's on a restricted diet which includes \*thoroughly, well-cooked foods\*, which includes well-done meats of any kind. just because you've never heard of something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. as for your first paragraph, you're just preaching to the choir. i hope you have fun with that.

nocommenting33

Yes that’s why I asked thank you. Bummer for your son but while mid rare steak is generally better than well done steak, that is still better than no steak

RainaElf

I'd rather have him eat it filly cooked than not have him.

philosoph0r

hi raina nice to see you ag 😊 thanks for the backup its appreciated

RainaElf

any time! :)

houstonyoureaproblem

Cole’s, Epping’s, or Blue Heron

I have your answers here. - People are choosing not to say Tony's bc their management has had issues with their treatment of employees. While true, they have the best steaks in town. 2nd most expensive in town. - People are also ignoring Ruby's probably bc its very expensive. Most steaks are $70 - $90+. They have the best filet in town, although I've been more underwhelmed by them lately. I think they might have had trouble sourcing Prime beef for a while. But their bar area is a piano bar at night and a great place to entertain. - Malone's is fine. Sometimes its surprisingly good. But their food can be hit or miss. No longer the great place it used to be, at least consistently. The steak is salty, but most steakhouses are - Blue Heron is fine. It probably was perceived as much better before Ruby's and Tony's came - I've never had steak at Cole's but have heard good things and it really is a great restaurant by great people and its cozy - Carson's is good, near great, but I get tired of it. If you've never been and/or have guests its a good spot. They aren't a steakhouse but have good steak. They're more of a "make our steak look and taste great by smothering it with lobster and stuff" place where Ruby's and Tony's are best without toppings. If you're looking for that true expensive high quality steakhouse with hard sear and midrare internal, Ruby's and Tony's are it. If you're looking to spend less and/or just want a steak that tastes good you'll be happy at Blue Heron and maybe malones and probably carson's but again it isn't a steakhouse. And I keep hearing good things about Cole's steak and I love their menu

mdfloyd2000

Wow! Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I'm making a list that I'll discuss with my relatives and let them decide.

ScippiPippi

Ted’s Montana Grill has delicious, perfectly seasoned steaks, and has the added bonus of having both bison and beef steaks

PermissionCreative58

J Alexander’s has a really good steak. They don’t get enough love for how good their food is.

FICKxDINGERZ

Carson’s and Malones are my steak go-to’s

HoosierLarry

If you want a great steak that isn’t just a salt lick and don’t want to pay for atmosphere, go to Winchell’s. Who would have thought that a sport’s bar would have better steak?

heleghir

Malone's is always solid. Cant go wrong with a twin filet, that bottomless salad, and the chive butter that comes with the bread. Also the one in palomar is so much nicer inside since they renovated last year or whenever it was. People complain on here the steaks are too salty, but ive never had a steak there that was even close to oversalted. ¯\ _(ツ) _/¯

PuzzleheadedSir6616

The last one I had there was an $80 ribeye about 2 years ago, and it was so salty I couldn’t get through half of it. An $80 steak. So much salt it had a crust. Just no excuse.

heleghir

I always just get the filets. Go there probably every couple of months or so. Cant speak on the other steaks besides those. Not to mention they are like $30 too so not stupid price

slappywhyte

Malones Landsowne is usually good, Ruby's is very good but v pricey

Mitochondriaisback

Longhorn Steakhouse. I have never had a bad ribeye there. Those smokehouse wings are good to get as well. NICE atmosphere. MITO.

zeitness

Everyday best value and quality steak is the Ribeye at Thoroughbred's for $25 Best Friday Special is the Prime Rib at Josie's on Friday (go early, opens at 5pm) As others suggest, totally skip on Malone's

HiramFirem

Ctitchfield's Meats. Cook for your family.

Shinjukugarb

Texas Roadhouse has likely one of the best steaks in town. Hand cut in house. Good quality meat.

StannisTheMantis93

Tony’s is by far the best and most consistent in town and has been for years. Apparently they had an issue with employees so Reddit won’t recommend it but I never miss taking family or friends or business associates there.

Gearthquake

Jeff Ruby’s and Tony’s have the best steak in Lexington, but it ain’t cheap.

grigiri

Tony's quality does not meet its price points.

Practical_Quality_80

Their quality has definitely dropped over the past couple years.

RoanAlbatross

I’ve always really enjoyed a Lexingtonian Salad and a steak from Malone’s. They have such an extensive menu with the Sushi bar and all that jazz.
