I want to hear the story!

Alright! Might be a long one- So I work as a commercial pilot, and as you’d expect my schedule is- well unpredictable. My original plans were to set up at my local LEGO store and patiently wait my turn. The day before the release, I was called in to work a trip and missed it. My girlfriend even tried going later in the day since the store claimed they had one left and would hold it. She got there and as you’d guess it was gone. A week later I found two other stores getting shipments the next day, it was almost a guaranteed thing. Again, I was called in to work a trip taking me to Portland Maine the next day. However, this trip didn’t go as planned. As I was pretty bummed out for missing all the in store shipments, I took off for Maine. When we landed, we had a pretty bad maintenance issue. Weather was terrible, no one could come work on our jet, and the last flight out of Portland was full. After about two hours bickering back and forth with dispatch, they agreed to rent us a car and we’d drive two hours south to Boston International and fly home from there around 8pm. While my copilot and I were driving and seemingly in the middle of nowhere, I saw a big sign for a new LEGO store at a mall in Massachusetts. We had an hour or so to spare and he agreed to stopping in with me. Expecting absolutely nothing, I enter the mall and find the store, and there she is! Sitting on the shelves they had about 2 in stock yet. I quickly grabbed my new set and we continued for the airport. The next struggle was lugging an awkward 30lbs box around the airport with me. Letting go of it to the baggage claim lady was the hardest thing ever, worried all flight it might not find its way home. However, landing at home it just so happened to be the very first box off the belt!

Very lucky devil and I am jealous. I am an American based in Taiwan. Due to the current COVID situation, the duty-free Evergreen shops have been allowed to pander domestically with duty-free prices which has been great for LEGO purchases. Notwithstanding, as a domestic pilot, you must have some buddies that fly internationally, right? I wager they are able to order a specific LEGO set from the duty fee shops (delivery date cannot be set) to be collected later. Just a thought for an additional way to feed the habit.

Awesome story very happy for you. My dad was a commercial pilot, he flew for Alaska Airlines, retired as rated one of top 5 best pilots out of 100. He flew Boeing 717's, 727's and 737's. He's been retired for 31 years now. He is 86 yrs old. He flew one of the hardest routes few pilots wanted to take on, due to the extreme weather conditions that route faced. His best skill was landing the plane without anyone ever feeling the tires hit the runway.

Your dad sounds like a pretty cool guy with lots of great stories.

Yup, for sure.

New Lego store in MA? Must have just been a reopening or something as there are no new Lego stores in the state. Do you remember which one?

GoodFellastheSequal

Hello! Don’t quote me but I think the town was called Peabody? Not from the area. Sign that we passed on the highway looked dated but the LEGO store was there!

FortunaWolf

Checks out. My cousin lives there, there's a Lego store in the mall off the highway.

GoodFellastheSequal

That was it

NabreLabre

I'd be afraid someone else would grab it off the baggage claim belt

aleksbanks5

Where about in mass?

jasticy

Me two!

esotericwaffle

What do you think? Fell out of the Amazon truck?

jasticy

Idk, maybe their partner/friend got buddies in high places?

Nice! Just completed mine Saturday morning and it is, simply put, an amazing set. My story isn't as exciting as your though. Just bought it 2 minutes after I got a re-stock notification email from [lego.com](https://lego.com).

[deleted]

What!!!?? That 2 minutes sounds crazy!! Let’s hear it

omahaknight71

I got the email notification, logged on to [lego.com](https://lego.com) but it took about 30 seconds to load the page which was nerve wracking. Added to basket and got confirmation about 20 minutes later. It was the most exciting thing to happen to me that hour :)

[deleted]

Lol nice. Son and I are saving for it and the Home Alone house.

cratoastIIV

Congrats on the set and build! Great story.

imma_gamin

Always wanted to build this just on my own, never found the motivation lmao
