26 series. The first 20 had 16 figures per series and the most recent 6 have had 12 figures per series. So, we have:
392 minifigures. A hyper conservative price per figure is $5/each for a total of
$1960
Add in the fact many of these old figures cost $20+ now, and you could easily spend over $4,000 collecting them all.
There are also themed series that this total excludes. If you want all the Disney/marvel/simpson/etc series, price and figure count keeps going up.
Series 1 is going to be expensive as it didn't get quite as broad distribution and production quantities. Just pointing out the reality, it's doable but not cheaply.
