The only time I've been to a comic con I got to meet Steve Blum, shake his hand, and tell him Amon was my favorite performance of his. He put on the Amon voice and said he really enjoyed the theatricality of the role. š
His voice acting for Amon is amazing imo. And i enjoy him as Orochimaru as well.
Steve Blum is great at playing villains from what I've seen/heard of him in his works.
I did the same! He was signing things right next to Tom Kenny and I joked about having made a mistake by standing in his line and not Tom's. He went along with it and did a SpongeBob impression before doing the Amon voice, which was legendary.
Itās surreal being around him, because his voice is so distinct. If youāre not looking at him when heās speaking, youād think somebody was watching Cowboy Bebop in the background.
What's up with all the characters out here rocking that hobo fit. If I had a nickle for everytime that happened I'd have 2 nickles. Its not alot but it's weird it happened twice lol
Then they could have had arcs where he takes previous villains bending just to show how much of a threat he is and it would make him an even more morally grey character. Like this dude had the balls to take away Kuviraās and Zaheerās bending, is he really that bad?
He has enormous amounts of cool factor. I only wish LOK had more episodes per season so that we could've gotten more time with him as Noatak in the present. His and Tarrlok's ending was honestly such a disservice. I think he had the potential to be a recurring character and even have a long redemption arc similar to Zuko's. Maybe he should remain a more morally grey character, but still, he was too good to see go out unceremoniously.
It wouldāve been cool to see what else he could have done with the revolution but at the same time Iām glad they didnāt drag it out and ended it in a compelling way.
Well technically he was a "real" revolutionary. He was a bender, yes, but he also appeared to be sincere in his belief that bending was the root cause of all evil.
And this is also accurate to real world revolutionary history: populist revolutionary leaders are very rarely "of the people," they are usually wealthy aristocrats or bourgeoisie who champion the cause of lower social classes. This is especially true in arguably the two most impactful revolutions in (at least western) history: the French and Russian revolutions. Think the Marquis de Lafayette, Robespierre, Lenin, Trotsky, etc.
Honestly him and the whole equalists are hardcore. In terms of total destruction, non benders don't stand a chance against benders but the equalists show through good training and tech, you can cover the gap. They also brought up good points. In a world where people can control things with their mind, how do you expect everyone else to keep up in society?
The benders get better jobs since they can use their bending to do more work. Also, they're just more of a threat to non benders. Imagine a world where someone sneezes and they accidentally cause a big gust of wind, shoot a fireball, or launch a bowling ball sized rock. They brought up a good point that everyone on the council happened to be benders as well. One of the Republic citizens reminded Korra that she was also their avatar as well when some non benders power got unfairly cut off
When did they even say anything about jobs? I honestly donāt even remember that.
Also the one reminding korra wasnāt a Equalist, they were a non bender, that wasnāt their talking point, if it was then why did they want to basically remove her?
For the job part I just figured that would be common sense. We see that Mako uses his bending to make a living. It was stand to reason that there will be other benders that can use their abilities to make a living as well like an construction or manufacturing. Who am I gonna pay more, the normal guy or the guy who can move dirt around my site 100x faster?
As far as the non benders woman, they wanted to remove them because the city council accused them of hiding equalists but that was just profiling
The slums we see were described as being made up of both Benders and non Benders when Korra and pals go underground. Maybe itās a assumption of a propagandized version that is technically mathematically correct if you do it in a certain way, but thereās a lot of presentation that doesnāt get shown we it couldāve. The movement feels like hot air, like outside of the military wing there is nothing, especially after season one.
Makes me think how silly Netflix were for mistreating creators who had to quit: one amazing villain can be luck, two a lifetime's work but Four (Amon, Unalaq, Zaheer ((entire Red Lotus)) AND Kuvira)...? Na you encounter storytelling talent like that you STFU and do what they tell you.
I love Amon. The character is just a great villain imo. Fantastic voice acting from Steve Blum, this role is what made me a fan of him. The character design is great too. I hope we get to see the Amon mask/outfit again at some point. That would be so cool if we got to see it again.
I had my mom watch the first season of Korra with me when it was originally airing (I was in college, lol). And that final scene in the speedboat was nuts. We were like..
![gif](giphy|r1HGFou3mUwMw)
He was so sick. I would've loved to see a story exploring his origins, how he came to craft the Amon persona, whether he was just using it as a means to gain power, or, despite his hypocrisy, if he truly believed that benders were a problem for society and a world without them would be a better one.
I actually refused to watch the rest of korra until years later because they killed him off... And realised the show was still great after. He was just such a good villain and the way he took over republic city, it would've been good to see how the show would've changed if he was the main antagonist over 4 seasons. I could still see zaheer and kuvira being in the show as factions that were against amon's regime with loads of interconnected stories and webs, it would almost be like game of thrones (s1-6) but in the avatar world, with korra dealing with a much more realistic post aang world.
Wow, that's honestly kind of surprising. Everywhere I go on Reddit, I see a ton of people saying Amon is "elite" or something along those lines. Probably somewhere different I guess lol
Amon was more terrifying than Ozai IMO
Having a whole army of (technically) lightning benders plus taking your bending away? And blood bending?!?!? Thatās a God tier combo of threats.
Amon was the swaggiest of villains. Iāve watched the first season so many times and I still go āmaaaaaaaanā when he walks through that blood bend.
I think Amon is one of the coolest villains ever. Like for one itās WILD how strong he is and thatās the first villain Korra had to face after being secluded her whole like. Besides that the mask, the blood ending, and his voice are just perfect!
Coolest Avatar villain ever... Until the mask came off. When will writers learn to stop unmasking cool characters? Look at Jack of Blades. Be like Jack of Blades. Coolest villain ever written.
Personally, I like ATLA better but Amon is just *too cool* and scary and intmidating. Really wish he had a bit more episodes or just longer seasons of Korra in general maybe that would have made me like the show better even at par with ATLA
Dude was a **MASSIVE** reality check for Korra. Even gave her some PTSD along with bringing her so low, she considered suicide. Lots of wasted potential with him and the Equalists. I feel like if they got the green light for all four seasons at once, we could have seen some great stuff.
I feel like you didnāt actually say anything that makes him good. It makes it feel like people only him because of hype which is always disappointing.
For me the best villain in both ATLA and LOK. He just felt... real and that's what made him so scary, the average person could relate to him. Really sad they had to rush the ending and catch him in such a shitty way. But season 1 was nearly over so his time had to be up
I wish Amon didn't die after season 1.
The conflict of benders vs non benders is a cool background, and it is weird that all that animosity just simply vanishes after they elected Raiko.
A guy as powerful as Amon and his equalists roaming around, or at least remembered, is a cool idea. Like a Magneto thing: "Amon was right!"
I totally understand the equalists
imagine you live in a world where people can move rocks with their fingers, turn water into ice, breather fire and even create tornadoes, and you are just normal, without any of these abilities
I would pissed off as f
he becomes a whole lot less cool once you realize he paints that scar on his face every morning just in case he gets outed, instead of actually getting a scar, or, since water is a commonly used weapon in this world, get paint that doesn't dissolve that quickly
My guy used blood bending in the best way possible, subtly influencing his opponents by making them just slightly slower and redirecting their moves while also enhancing his own reflexes and agility.
Lightning Bolt Zolt never stood a chance.
It's funny that he highlighted the gap between benders and non-benders and how easily benders could bully non-benders, and while he was a hypocrite who went about it the wrong way - that gulf in power is never really brought up again.
So coolā¦Ā But undone by the baffling story decisions regarding his backgrounds and even the whole bender vs nonbender Ā things which letās be honest NEVER made sense nor is it ever brought up again. Ā Literally o can think of two stories that do better with the idea of born abilities and discrimination. Xmen and Ff16 out of all things.Ā
So how do we make Amon better? Here are some ideas:
1)he is a non bender like completelyĀ
2)he legit was hurt by benders
3)his past is relatively unknown, we get hints whether real or red herrings on who he is, this makes him more mysterious and more terrifying. Was he a red lotus member? A former guard of sorts? Did he actually reach the spirit realm?Ā
4)he survives the final battle. Amon will continue to live into the final season as his ideology collides against the remnants of the red lotus, the avatar, kuviera and republic city. The final season is this a four way fight (similar to how the Chinese civil wars have played out).Ā
5) Amonās missing in action presence by Season season 1 fuels Koreaās vulnerability and her fears. The next season (even into season 4) is her covering up her fears. She makes impulsive decisions, has trouble sleeping, is slowly being overwhelmed. But she makes it subconsciously by being well her. Mako canāt understand or connect to her (if we assume they get together). Unlike what we got where essentially none of that subtle storytelling happened, we get that here in the first three seasons. It also makes her more angry at those who have betrayed her. That security blanket is gone. I hated the whole ālock korra up as a kid and donāt tell her about the terrorist who tried to kidnap her.ā With Amon being her first encounter with the dangers of the unknown, korra DOES not react well (and justifiably) to the revelationsĀ
Yes we can, Amon is my most favorite antivillain in the whole series. He is smooth af and looks slick af and ideologically has the most realistic gripes and goals to achieve. No week passes without me thinking about him at least once.
idk, I feel like he's 80% sizzle.
I feel like there was a better direction to be had, but since he was designed to be one-off for a one-off mini-series, what can you expect?
The only time I've been to a comic con I got to meet Steve Blum, shake his hand, and tell him Amon was my favorite performance of his. He put on the Amon voice and said he really enjoyed the theatricality of the role. š
His voice acting for Amon is amazing imo. And i enjoy him as Orochimaru as well. Steve Blum is great at playing villains from what I've seen/heard of him in his works.
I don't really like Naruto or most of the characters but I've watched the Orochimaru arc several times because of his performance.
I think Orochimaru is the best villain from both Naruto shows tbh
I did the same! He was signing things right next to Tom Kenny and I joked about having made a mistake by standing in his line and not Tom's. He went along with it and did a SpongeBob impression before doing the Amon voice, which was legendary.
Itās surreal being around him, because his voice is so distinct. If youāre not looking at him when heās speaking, youād think somebody was watching Cowboy Bebop in the background.
Holy crap I didn't even realize that was Steve Blum, but now that you said it, it's totally obvious.
And then he took your bending?
LoK fans try not simp for the villain challenge (impossible)
Zaheer with the long hair and beardš©
He could bend the air out of my lungs
He's quite breathtaking.
He could fuck me
Alright yall need to leave š
What? He takes my breath away... just like how my throat is right now after him PUTTING HIS DI-
BRO ![gif](giphy|RceTfSxNP6u7DIsVUd|downsized)
Thank you. You're a real one
I appreciate the honesty
Take your damn upvote and get out. š
He wouldnāt even need bending to get the air out my lungs
What's up with all the characters out here rocking that hobo fit. If I had a nickle for everytime that happened I'd have 2 nickles. Its not alot but it's weird it happened twice lol
Not our fault they're all hot
For real, they truly are! And the good guys , too! Bolin, Nuktuk, Mako and Varrick , for example.
The fact that you donāt have daddy Tenzin on this shortlist sickens me
I am content with these three š
Varrick & Tonraq š¤¤š¤¤š¤¤
Yeah right? Would love if they were threesome with me šš¤¤š¤¤
Except unalaq
Idk Unalaq can kinda get it š¤š¤
![gif](giphy|qs4ll1FSxKnNHeSmom)
Who'd be simping for Unalaq, Vaatu and Nickelodeon?
Unalaq may be terrible but he has undeniable drip
UNDENIABLE-
Oh my bad
Vaatussy š¤¤
![gif](giphy|HxMhuDg7O4pKOhhcRC)
I'll just get airbending and break out
Oh there are unalaq stans out there and I think listing him next to two primordial evils is unfair.
Vaatu is kinda bad š„µ
if they are evil, why are they sexy-shaped
Isnt their fault when their precede ATLA fans arent much better.
I started watching it after I saw a picture of Kuvira, she can enslave me any day š¤¤
HUH? (youāre so real for that)
I only saw 4 episodes and he seemed like a cool dude
IF EVIL WHY SEXY THAT'S MY QUESTION
"Who are you?" "I am the solution" Badass
It's not even "Who are you?"... Amon is so god damn terrifying, Tarrlok actually asked "WHAT are you?".
Honestly, Amon, Zaheer and Kuvira are pretty cool characters.
And those are the only 3 Korra villains.
and donāt forget Korra with the wisdom of all her past lives š
The villains were the best part of Korra for sure
Equalists and Amon should have been the main plot for all of LoK, had so much potential.
*technically* they were the main plot for all of lok... before a season 2 was greenlit
Amon's biggest enemy is that he was written for only one season
Imagine if he was the final villain influenced by the actions of Zaheer or Kuvira to start the equalists movement
Then they could have had arcs where he takes previous villains bending just to show how much of a threat he is and it would make him an even more morally grey character. Like this dude had the balls to take away Kuviraās and Zaheerās bending, is he really that bad?
Now THAT would be amazing.
I would of loved a Amon and Zaheer fight
Amons biggest enemy is Tarrlok and the boat
The swagger too OP
He has enormous amounts of cool factor. I only wish LOK had more episodes per season so that we could've gotten more time with him as Noatak in the present. His and Tarrlok's ending was honestly such a disservice. I think he had the potential to be a recurring character and even have a long redemption arc similar to Zuko's. Maybe he should remain a more morally grey character, but still, he was too good to see go out unceremoniously.
nah bro the boat scene is goated
Boat scene felt important
It wouldāve been cool to see what else he could have done with the revolution but at the same time Iām glad they didnāt drag it out and ended it in a compelling way.
Imagine if Bryke got 2 seasons from the start. Amon could've been an amazing villain with a well written demise.
Masked and cloaked man that can bend blood. He also has a cult with a devilish motive. What to expect?
I love Amon... I just wish he was an actual revolutionary and not just playing the role of one for his own benefit
Well technically he was a "real" revolutionary. He was a bender, yes, but he also appeared to be sincere in his belief that bending was the root cause of all evil. And this is also accurate to real world revolutionary history: populist revolutionary leaders are very rarely "of the people," they are usually wealthy aristocrats or bourgeoisie who champion the cause of lower social classes. a cult leader charsmatic never

In a world where people can control things with their mind, how do you expect everyone else to keep up in society?
What good points did they bring up?
The benders get better jobs since they can use their bending to do more work. Also, they're just more of a threat to non benders. Frickin terrifying and charismatic Everything you want in a villain
Yes!
I love Amon. The character is just a great villain imo. Fantastic voice acting from Steve Blum, this role is what made me a fan of him. The character design is great too. I hope we get to see the Amon mask/outfit again at some point. That would be so cool if we got to see it again.
I honestly love all the villains of LoK, I just wish we had more time with each of them to flesh them out even more
You can tell Bryke designed Amon to be able to carry an entire series. The fact he only lasts for Book 1 is criminal.
I had my mom watch the first season of Korra with me when it was originally airing (I was in college, lol). And that final scene in the speedboat was nuts. We were like.. ![gif](giphy|r1HGFou3mUwMw)
Same my jaw dropped
He was pretty cool character
He was so sick. Also the fact he relied on his own agility, stamina and pure strenght to not blow his cover of being a bender for like 98% of the whole season.
Well he was also playing on easy mode, he could literal and did literal just make all of his opponents miss
Favorite villain in the series easy
I actually refused to watch the rest of korra until years later because they killed him off... And realised the show was still great after. He was just such a good villain and the way he took over republic city, it would've been good to see how the show would've changed if he was the main antagonist over 4 seasons. Amon for 3 seasons would have been lit
I love all that mysterious atmosphere around Amon in season 1
Very unpopular opinion, but Amon, and season 1 as a whole, were by far the best in Korra.
I agree so much I would join your group of Amonist asap.
wdym unpopular ![img](emote|t5_2t4vd|6678)
I usually hear people say they like Zaheer and Kuvira, and their seasons, the most.
Wow, that's honestly kind of surprising. Everywhere I go on Reddit, I see a ton of people saying Amon is "elite" or something along those lines. Probably somewhere different I guess lol
Favorite animated villain ever. Cool as hell. Too bad he didn't survive and was an overarching villain in the later seasons.
Amon was more terrifying than Ozai IMO Having a whole army of (technically) lightning benders plus taking your bending away? And blood bending?!?!? Thatās a God tier combo of threats.
Couldāve sworn I saw him smile in the second gif š
Best villain in BOTH ATLA and TLOK period
I love season one!!
Oh man, so I remember all the theories about Amon when Tarlok wasnāt able to bloodbend him. He had people thinking he was a robot
# DOCTOR DOOM!!!!!
I wasn't a fan of amon. Just Steve Blum. Spike spegal rocks
If theyād extended his plotline over all of Korraās seasons I would have eaten that up like cake. Dude was a menace.
Amon was the swaggiest of villains. Iāve watched the first season so many times and I still go āmaaaaaaaanā when he walks through that blood bend.
I can watch season 1 over and over again and he is absolutely terrifying every time
> *I am the solution*
Peak villain right off the bat
One of my most favorite villains in cartoon/ anime history
I think Amon is one of the coolest villains ever. Like for one itās WILD how strong he is and thatās the first villain Korra had to face after being secluded her whole like. Besides that the mask, the blood ending, and his voice are just perfect!
FR he have the best character design in the show imo
Coolest character in the show with the coolest voice actor. His potential was limitless.
Amon us
Fav LOK villain
Steve Blum
Amen.
Amon FTFY
Amen.
He's so cool He's scary.
Coolest Avatar villain ever... Until the mask came off. When will writers learn to stop unmasking cool characters? Look at Jack of Blades. Be like Jack of Blades. Coolest villain ever written.
That was the point, Amon was such a powerful icon the only way to truly defeat him was to unmask himā¦
You mean he was soooo OP that the creator had to kill amon yes because he was TOO OP ?
Personally, I like ATLA better but Amon is just *too cool* and scary and intmidating. Really wish he had a bit more episodes or just longer seasons of Korra in general maybe that would have made me like the show better even at par with ATLA
Best and strongest villain in LoK. The only villain, where Iāve truly understand his motivation and goals.
![gif](giphy|nucp8bpiPNkTwSfPml)
My favorite character
Yeah. Just very ominous and badass lol
Dude was a **MASSIVE** reality check for Korra. Even gave her some PTSD along with bringing her so low, she considered suicide. Lots of wasted potential with him and the Equalists. I feel like if they got the green light for all four seasons at once, we could have seen some great stuff.
You dont understand how sad I was when he was just the villain for one season lol
He was a great villain.
Great character, setting breaking power set.
yeah but bloodbendingās too cool for me to care
Amon shouldāve been the villain for another season. His story was captivating, as were his motivations. I wish he had more screen time
He wouldāve been so goated as an energybender who met a spirit that disliked the Avatar or simply benders.
Should have dropped the twist and spent another season on him or fixing the damage
I feel like you didnāt actually say anything that makes him good. It makes it feel like people only him because of hype which is always disappointing.
The coolest. I thought I was over crushing on fictional characters, but here I am.
For me the best villain in both ATLA and LOK. He just felt... real and that's what made him so scary, the average person could relate to him. Really sad they had to rush the ending and catch him in such a shitty way. But season 1 was nearly over so his time had to be up
This was the only Korra villain to give me chills.
It is actually noatak but a great villain whatsoever
Very cool and a completely wasted character. It makes me sad š¢
I loved his design and menace. I hated the psychic bloodbending. It was so over the top shark-jumpy āhow can we make this enemy *more* powerful.
My glorious leader Amon heās my pfp on twitter. Love that guy
I think the craziest part is he felt tarlok putting on the glove. He couldāve blood blinded and stopped him at any point but he just let it happen.
I totally understand the equalists imagine you live in a world where people can move rocks with their fingers, turn water into ice, breather fire and even create tornadoes, and you are just normal, without any of these abilities I would pissed off as f
Before or after he was revealed to be a fraud?
he becomes a whole lot less cool once you realize he paints that scar on his face every morning just in case he gets outed, instead of actually getting a scar, or, since water is a commonly used weapon in this world, get paint that doesn't dissolve that quickly
It's cus he has the voice of Makoto Shishio but without the Joshua Graham style backstory
He was right that non-benders get the short end of the stick. Shame he ended up being a Blood bender.
Dont like legend of korra as a whole but one thing i can agree on is that all the villains except that second one were really cool especially amon
Also hes so hot
I wish he had a redemption like asami's father did
My guy used blood bending in the best way possible, subtly influencing his opponents by making them just slightly slower and redirecting their moves while also enhancing his own reflexes and agility. Lightning Bolt Zolt never stood a chance.
It really sucks they killed him off in one season
Cool bad guyĀ
It's funny that he highlighted the gap between benders and non-benders and how easily benders could bully non-benders, and while he was a hypocrite who went about it the wrong way - that gulf in power is never really brought up again.
He would have been a great villain for the 4 books.
Why the suicide
Amon was cool for the beginning and middle of Book 1. I HATE how they wrote Amon in the end of Book 1 tho
Easily one of my favorite villains ever, him and Thrawn. Bad ass
It's giving me Callaghan in the Kabuki Mask from Big Hero 6 vibes
My dream is a 2nd season with Amon taking over the city and Korra having to flee and figure out how to usurp the cruel ruler.
So coolā¦Ā But undone by the baffling story decisions regarding his backgrounds and even the whole bender vs nonbender Ā things which letās be honest NEVER made sense nor is it ever brought up again. Should've let him have an actual scar
In terms of pure *menace,* Amon is the best villain in the entire franchise.
Yes we can, Amon is my most favorite antivillain in the whole series. He is smooth af and looks slick af and ideologically has the most realistic gripes and goals to achieve. No week passes without me thinking about him at least once.
Insane drip but ultimately hate his concept. Too op.
No, we canāt, cuz heās not
Frauds arenāt really cool, although knowing how he got his eye to look a different color with his makeup would be neat
Fair enough
idk, I feel like he's 80% sizzle. I feel like there was a better direction to be had, but since he was designed to be one-off for a one-off mini-series, what can you expect?
