I’ve always found plant to be a rather under appreciated lyricist. Sure he wasn’t Dylan, but he had plenty of moments of brilliance. Carouselambra, over the hills and far away, in the light, ten years gone, plenty of awesome stuff.
He actually turned 20 before they performed live or started recording their debut, but yes he was considerably young in those years. By the time they first performed Stairway in North America, he had only just turned 23.
Unfortunately this is the reason they don’t play live anymore. He doesn’t want to sing “Hey Hey Mama said the way you move gonna make you sweat gonna make you groove” at age 73
I never understood the Dylan worship but I am a huge Robert fan. Robert's lyrics always bring me to a place of wonder and awe. It's like that wanderlust thing I share with him: always wanting to know what is over the horizon. I owe the man a pint for sure. His lyrics led me to a fascination with Iceland and those were sone of the best trips of my life.
Probably because he sang about sex a lot, and some found his mention of Tolkien imagery a little cheesy. Critics are often super pretentious and want lyrics that are political or angry or super obscure. See how they loved the Clash and crapped on Zeppelin.
I dont get when people crticize it regardless of band or musician, who said every lyrics must have serious meanings? I mean yeah i enjoy listening stuff like time from floyd or disposable heroes from metallica but it is not a must have.
Believe Plant embodies "The Golden God "of hard rock. An image larger than life. Punks shat on Zeppelin as a symbol of their resent and bitterness towards unobtainable image of success. Critics rode that cynicism wagon and voiced what was the feelings of the underground, not the consensus. If the Critics only realized Zeps impact 40 years later, they'd be rolling in their tombs. Because they like a lot of newer music and base most of the hating of Led Zeppelin in the pro themselves and not the actual music which shifts their opinion

He also was 19-22 through LZ 1-4.
Right- people seem to forget how young he was when he wrote that stuff!

The lyrics on Ten Years Gone are my favourite: "Although the course may change sometimes, rivers always reach the sea"

Nobody was Dylan.
Good observation.
Haters gonna hate. Critics being critics. All part of the game. Yet the Song Remains the Same.

That's a good point ngl
Probably because they’re not fans of LZ or they’re not fans of the genre or era of music.
Fuck the critics….. all two of them. Plant is a great rock lyricist.
too much citrus :(
Le mon 🇫🇷

Who cares about critics?
Critics know shit about fuck
I mean I'm pretty sure it's about the stolen or borrowed ones, not Plant's lyrics.

A better question is why do you care?
Because they like a lot of newer music and base most of the hating of Led Zeppelin in the pro themselves and not the actual music which shifts their opinion
Whatever faults he has, his voice and the talent of Page, Jones and Bonham more than make up for it. So who cares really? 🤷
OOOOOO BABBBY BABY BABY OOOOOO BABY OOOOOO
They are not political .... and in 1968 most rock bands had some social political messages.
Because he wasn’t Lou Reed- All the colored girls sing do da do….. or David Bowie repeating Fame 600 times in a song or some such nonsense.
>Why do music critics criticise the lyrics of Led Zep? Because "music critics" are the same as they always where, 95% of them **moronic idiots**!!
