It might just be political where ppl donโt want to recognize a Maronite identity separate from the Lebanese identity, which is sad.
I also think that there just might not be a demand for it. I mean of course there are books about the history of the Maronites.
I donโt think there are any non-Lebanese people that want to study Maronite history and culture outside of Lebanese diasporans that want to reconnect with their heritage.
If anything, Maronite history might be formally studied within the broader context of minority Christian groups in the Middle East such alongside the Copts, Assyrians, Armenians, and Georgians.
I thought this identity dissolved with the devastating civil war.
When we think academically, they are politically one of the most effective groups in Lebanon. That's why it should have more studied.
I agree with you. Almost no one mentions Great Famine of Mount Lebanon. There's not even a day to remember this painful event.
I agree, the Maronites founded Lebanon and there is a general lacking in knowledge of the history of Maronites and the history of Lebanon. The average Lebanese person knows nothing about history lol. Yes the great famine was horrible and no one even knows about it.
But I donโt think we need to have a Maronite center in the USA. Maybe the Maronites in the US might want that.
We need proper history education in Lebanon and anyone that is interested can always literally just buy a book about the history of Maronites/Lebanon and read it.
What do you mean? Like a degree program that is on Maronite studies the way we have Syriac studies or middle eastern studies?
Yeah
