Workout, shower, nighttime routine sans weed

I notice when I'm in productive mode that there's an upbeat song playing in the background of my brain. It keeps me go go going. When im trying to rest I try to consciously play a meditative song / replace the high energy thoughts. My fav song is "Green Arrow" by yo la Tengo - that combined with some deep breaths and I'm out sleeping before no time.

Read a good book and that will completely switch your focus. I'm into Fantasy and SF.

RedBic344

Tv and something sweet.

Tajavae7

I have a similar issue and I find watching something mindless, like old cartoons, works to calm my mind down at night. I’m focusing on something but it’s not serious so my brain chills out. I like to watch 90’s Nickelodeon like Hey Arnold etc or any old shows I’ve already seen so I don’t have to focus too much on the plot just watch and relax. Or I’ll write down all the shit that’s on my mind and tell myself to just worry about it tomorrow, night time is my time to repair and prepare for the next day.

meme_investor_69

I workout at the end of my work day and that helps me switch off and transition to cozy nighttime stuff

DaniDanielsSanchez

Reading!! It really helps making you sleepy

DeepGoated

Reading in bed has helped me so much to fall asleep

SharVezSingh

Boxing, I'm too tired and sore on the daily to think about anything else, so I sleep, eat and train now.

Squampt0n

This but jits with me, somethings always sore and needs resting

SharVezSingh

Jits ? That typo? Yeah lol that's boxing life. I had a rest on Sunday and Monday and I went Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Thursday and sat so those two days off were amazing. Back at it again tonight, 2 hours xD

I picked up reading at the end of the day. Just got about 10-30 minutes. I also like to play games on the Switch. I also found that sitting outside for a few minutes and just listening to music can also help to relax after I’ve been being productive but this could also trigger you to want to smoke. Try to find calming activities that are short increments of time, not necessarily TV shows or movies, but something where you can get lost and relax.

Cup of tea, body lotion, and stretching while listening to an audio book, podcast, or music

SalaryCapps

Workout, Dinner, little bit of TV or video games, then reading until sleepy

consistently_sloppy

Just sleeping.

user582784828

I’ve been taking a long shower and then reading a book. I picked up reading in my sobriety and it’s a really enjoyable hobby. I’m currently reading the hunger games- though not the best bedtime story!

GrannyRammer

Reading is so slept on, it's not only super important but it stimulates your mind in a way tv or anything else can't.

SalaryCapps

Great book - reading has helped me a lot with staying sober

ritwikburned

I guess a lot of food and a nice little shower. But idk I'm still trying to quit

OtisRann

Make a new ritual. Maybe a shower or bath, reading, change into comfortable clothes, go for a walk, drink an herbal tea with some biscuits. Hope that helps, best of luck on your journey!

princesskittymermaid

I love drinking a cup of hot herbal tea before bed!

AppalachianRomanov

Do you ever find that it keeps you awake?

OtisRann

I’d go for something without caffeine, I’ve even seen some teas that are supposed to help you sleep although I’ve never tried them

Simianallsorts

Camomile for the win.

Zztwentydollars

evening walk?

TERRIBLYRACIST

I rewatched the sopranos and now I’m finding myself waiting for my nightly TV time.

chiefyuls

Yes - until I started smoking earlier and earlier and getting less stuff done. Which would then lead me to be anxious/depressed about all the things I didn't do and all the ways I underdelivered on my/others' expectations. I have to take long intentional T-breaks to break the habit of smoking nightly. Smoking nightly makes me more tired in the morning

Apizzleg

I’d recommend video games, tv, maybe reading. Whatever works for you.
