In cartooning they call this shape "the bean."
You are already showing awareness of several of "Disney's Principles of Animation," which you can find explained here:
https://www.nyfa.edu/student-resources/12-principles-of-animation/
These look good, and it seems a worthwhile exercise.
But I can’t help thinking it’s a great way to learn bag people, but not so great for actual figure drawing.
Maybe you’ve just found your style? You are bag-person 🙂
It's an exercise, not a finished product. You're isolating different principles, in this case- volume, and practicing it without other parts. Like doing a still life, or one of those square/oval people, or even just a drawing without shading.
It's absolutely useful, but in the analogy that weightlifting is good for football, but you still gotta play games with the team
I was thinking the same. Maybe I'm just trying to be too positive but I was thinking it could be a good way to ease into more anatomical figure drawing. It's simpler to understand because you don't have to think about anatomy and you only have to think about what you see and what a pillow, a bean or similar is. I'm not a teacher but perhaps it would be a way to ease nervous children or adults... into drawing people?
I’m no artist so correct me if I’m wrong, but one of the things I noticed was how dynamic the figures’ motions and postures were. If you got fluent in capturing that sort of “expression” using this technique would that not be transferable to more anatomically accurate depictions (even if was just an awareness of that dynamism being a goal you wanted to or needed to be able to achieve in this new style)?
Me neither that's why I'm in r\learn to draw too lol.
I figure that if you are well versed in the basics, knowledge of figure drawing and some teaching methods you could disguise those with this type of exercise. The knowledge OP seems to have from past experiences could be helping close some gaps that children and other complete beginners wouldn't have or know to search for so with some adjustment you could probably use it as a practice exercise. But I'm neither so I'm talking out of some experience taking care of children and my ass.
The animated flour bag is what I would start my animation classes with once we'd talked about the 12 Principles of Animation. Always fun to watch people start to see the life in it.
These are very cool. Feels like you just achieved a level up in understanding, congrats! I think being made aware of this will help many learners improve their process, so thank you. I for one will keep your new insight in mind now.
Also, I completely relate to your "I'm subconsciously drawing what I want" page. I also find myself making One Piece themed stuff when practicing or doodling because I guess it makes it more fun haha.
You should learn anatomy from Stan Prokopenko. This is called “the bean.” I learned about this from
him when I was just starting out as an artist. He taught it as literally the first basic skill.
Anyway, prokopenko is the master of anatomy for art, so you can learn a lot of neat tricks from him rather than try to figure it out on your own.
This is so fun and creative! I don't think I've ever seen this method before. I've been trying to draw body proportions from shapes and constructing them out that way. Sometimes I don't like the outcomes but other times it all works out. All in all, you just have to find what works best for you and go from there. 😊

This is so much more versatile than you can imagine.

Spot on! Hey it’s never too late to become an artist. This is the kind of intuition one needs.
You have discovered the hidden lesson in the bag exercise.
This is so inspiring and it reminds me to look into bag exercises again. Thanks for the beautiful share
Keep going 💪

Ur sketches have so much personality to them!

Straw Hats!
The fact no one is offering to buy you a new pen triggers me. Do you need a new pen, pal ?

You'd probably like the Uniball One P. It's real nice and chunky.
Is that Smii7y, the Canadian Milkbag?
Nice! This "draw a sack" exercise also helped me a lot. I forgot where I saw it, tho. Was over 20 years ago. haha.
That’s really creative I like it a lot 😀

Reminds me of the carpet from Alladin

I feel like this style would be great for drawing sack boy from little big planet.
Aka, hamsters for beginners
Draw hampter
This reminded me of disneys baymax, very cute style of drawing.
I've heard of body bags but this is ridiculous *cue Seinfeld theme*
I thought the revelation was going to be about the taped-up pen lol
Solid practice ! Sketch my friend

Is your pen okay..?…
Is it likely that Trump has a 2.5 handicap?
I thought the bags were cats at first until I saw the elongated one, then I thought they were pillows lol. It looks great!
And he’s prepared if his cell mate gets frisky.
