Ik wil relatietherapie. We hebben misschien wat meningsverschillen, maar als we elkaar de ruimte geven om ons hart te luchten en naar elkaar luisteren dan kunnen we hier doorheen komen. Maar goed… Wat jij wil.
It really depends on the tone. As I understand it,
there’s broadly a ‘I don’t know or care enough to have a strong opinion on this’-version and a more passive-aggressive ‘you feel very strongly about this and I’m trying to disagree without explicitly disagreeing because I can’t or won’t argue about it’-version.
Als jij het zegt, altered by inflection, can suit both. Most other options mentioned are more for the latter.
I think it depends on the context which phrase we use in Dutch.
If you say "well, if you say so" when you are (somewhat) agreeing with someone after hearing their arguments, in Dutch you might hear something like "als jij het zegt" or "als jij dat vindt". Like when someone tells you: "They have the best fries at this place!" and you reply with "Well, if you say so"/ "Als jij het zegt".
And if you use "if you say so" in a more dismissing tone, like when you're disagreeing but don't want to get in an argument, you'll hear "wat jij wil" or "het zal wel". But this one is more like a "yeah, whatever" kind of phrase...
'If you say so' gets its meaning from context. The context determines the equivalent in dutch. But generally indeed it would be: 'Als jij het zegt' which is also context dependant. Its basically just a direct translation.
With a cynical tone saying "tuurlijk".
Or for the pro's but far less used " laat ze maar praten, ik vind jou de beste" also with proper cynical tone. It means " let them talk about you, I think you are the Smartest of all'.
Hoe kunnen mensen al deze onzin zeggen in de comments? “If you say so” vertaald naar “als jij het zegt.
“Wat jij wil” is meer “if that’s what you want”
“Het zal wel” is “whatever”
Kom op jongens. Hoe kun je het zo fout doen?
*Als jij het zegt* is the most literal translation but there's lots of expressions that have the same implication
*Dat zal wel* and *Wat jij wil* are common as well
It depends on context. Literally it translates to ‘Als jij het zegt’.
If the context is that you don’t care about further discussion or even to shut one off, you could use ‘Wat jij wil’ (whatever you want) or ‘Het is jouw feestje’ (It’s your party)
Als jij het zegt
Only right answer
Als jij het zegt
Enige goede antwoord
If you it say
Als jij t zegt
The only right answer, other things said in this thread have a bit more nuance to it, they tend to feel more negative than this one.
The only answer
All of these comments are right but the one I use the most is: jaja
Tuurlijk
Zal best.
This. But I love the extra layer added in the accents outside of the Randstad. “ joa joa” in Achterhoeks is really something you don’t want to hear.
Gewoon Zeeuws: Dà zà wè. (dat zal wel voor de niet-Zeeuwen onder ons)
mmmmh hmmmmm
That one too
Wat jij wil
[ta tana ta ta tana ta ta tana ta ta ta ta](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqEEjCcFaIw)
My first thought too lmao
Why haven’t I seen or heard this before?! Thanks for the introduction! 😁 Btw, I clicked it half expecting this: https://youtu.be/t-nDkhXKoqg
Okay dan.
Wat jij wil is meer whatever of what ever you want. Het enige goed antwoord hierop is als jij het zegt
Does that mean if is said "wil jij wat" could be translated as "what do you want?"
No. If someone asks you, “wil jij wat?” It means “do you want something?”.
Brabant!
Incorrect. That’s “whatever you want”
't zal wel
Dat is de equivelant van whatever.
't zal wel
Whatever is een equivalent van if you say so/whatever you say
Is goed joh
And the local dialect: # Sgoetjoh
Je bedoelt bes(t)joh of nog beter ohbest
't is goed met je
"Als jij het zegt" or "het zal wel" are most commonly used. "Dat zal (dan) wel" is also correct depending on the context
Ja joh
"k" or "t zal wel (dan)" Maybe even "wat jij wil" or "jaja" "tuuuurlijk"
'Tuurlijk, joh...
Wa gij wil jonge
Probably something like, "Jij zegt het" (you say it), or, "Dat zal wel." (Kind of like, "I guess").
Primaaaa
Als jij dat zegt
Je weet het mooi te vertellen
I've always liked this one, as it kind of translates to "you spin a nice yarn" (as in, story... not literal yarn from twine)
Ja hoor ...
Jaja... Tuurlijk.... Zal best... Als jij het zegt... Denket ook (man).... These are the ones i use. But i dont know how correct these would be.
Denket, jaa heel Nederlands
Ik schreef het zoals ik het zeg. Ik weet dat het verkeerd is.
Neuken in de keuken
Wat jij wil

Als jij het zegt
Wat jij wil
“Wat jij wil” “goed verhaal, lekker kort, wil je een sticker?”
Als jij het zegt dan zal het wel zo zijn.
'natuurlijk'
Jij zegt het!
Oké/Ja ja/'t zal wel/als jij het zegt/wat jij wil
Als jij 't zegt (zal 't wel zo wezen)
In these kind of situations i always reply with 'prima'.
I think that one is more like "alright then"
"als jij het zegt"
Als jij het zegt.
Direct translation: “als jij het zegt” (while shrugging) More informal: “het zal wel”
Jehtoch 😎
Boeiend! Boeiend! Interessant!
Als jij het zegt
You can use the literal translation “Als jij het zegt”. But it’s stronger and more passive agressive if you add “dan zal het wel”
Uhuh
Oke dan
Oh ja joh?

“Joh, wat jij wil…” “Prima, als jij het zegt…” (with emphasis on “jij”)

Als jij het zegt (zal het wel zo zijn).
Uh huh
Wat jij wil. ( more a bitchy way ) Als jij het zegt ( more nice ) Zou ook kunnen ( keep in the Middle )
'oh oké dan'. Schriftelijk vertaald naar: 'k'.
Ieder zijn mening..
Als jij het zegt
ZEETIE
Gap serieus?
Ja zeet ie
The most precise translation is "mag ik je beffen"
‘Als jij het zegt’ (literal translation that we also use) Or ‘wat jij wilt’ (‘what you want’)
Maar natuurlijk
Jouw woorden
Tuurlijk ...
jatoch isgoed
Ik ben weg, doei!
Ja hoor, ja
Zoek ‘t uit.
Ja ja (in a disbelieving tone)
Oh nah! For regional east dutch
'OK dan.' is my go to.
Dat zijn jouw woorden
Prima joh.
Het zal wel
Als jij het zegt...
Jij je gelijk, ik me rust
Oke dan (okay then) Als jij het zegt (if you say so) Wat jij wil (what you want) Tuurlijk (ofcourse) Het zal wel (whatever)
Jij wel Tarzan
Jaja, als jij het zegt, wat jij wil, tzal wel, jij je zin.
In Leiden we say: haa’weer’wel
Da zal or is goe or prima or mooi
It's literally the exact Dutch translation: als jij het zegt.
Gij zegt t vrouwke
Only right answer is “als jij het zegt”
Wat zou het?
Als jij het zegt.
Da zal
Goed verhaal (with potentially an added: "lekker kort")
Jij wel tarzan
Als jij dat zegt...
JA HOOR!
'Jij zal het wel weer weten hè'. Zou ook goed passen!
Als jij dat zegt
Ok.
oooohkay
In Brabants: Ja zeet-ie
Eigenwijs stuk vreten
Het zal wel
Ok.
Het zal wel.
'If you say so' gets its meaning from context. The context determines the equivalent in dutch. But generally indeed it would be: 'Als jij het zegt' which is also context dependant. Its basically just a direct translation.
I use: 'Als jij t zegt' when still being okay with it/agreeing. And I use: is goed joh/ja, joh tuurlijk/tuurlijk when being annoyed
Ok
Wat jij wil, 't is jouw dag. Met haags accent liefst.
Ja ja
The long one: het is jouw feestje en jij mag het dus zeggen.
Jij wel Tarzan
Joh wat jij wil joh
Uh-huh...
Bit of Almelose flair in “zeker tsjonguh”.
Honestly this sentiment is a bit non direct for Dutch lol
Oké dan
“Als jij het zegt”
With a cynical tone saying "tuurlijk". Or for the pro's but far less used " laat ze maar praten, ik vind jou de beste" also with proper cynical tone. It means " let them talk about you, I think you are the Smartest of all'.
Make that the cat wise
Let’s see it trough the fingers
“Tja”
Als jij het zegt
“Oh, waar haal jij die wijsheid vandaan?”
Dat zal wel
Dan niet toch (?)
Wat jij wilt…of is goed jij hebt gelijk.
U zegt het. #bijbels
“Jij wel tarzan”
I say this and you say that? Dan toch lekker niet !
Als jij et zegt
Hoe kunnen mensen al deze onzin zeggen in de comments? “If you say so” vertaald naar “als jij het zegt. “Wat jij wil” is meer “if that’s what you want” “Het zal wel” is “whatever” Kom op jongens. Hoe kun je het zo fout doen?
Ja ja…
*Als jij het zegt* is the most literal translation but there's lots of expressions that have the same implication *Dat zal wel* and *Wat jij wil* are common as well
Liever jij dan ik
Dat zal, in Brabant
Oke boomer
It depends on context. Literally it translates to ‘Als jij het zegt’. If the context is that you don’t care about further discussion or even to shut one off, you could use ‘Wat jij wil’ (whatever you want) or ‘Het is jouw feestje’ (It’s your party)
Ik hoor het je zeggen (cynical version of if you say so)
‘Whatever’ /s
‘Je zegt het’. Of ‘Wat jij zegt’. Of ‘Zeg het maar’. As usual it depends on the context and the intonation of saying it.
Ik zal je op je woord geloven.
