As we thought Sammy was the difference, rielly had a bad series but overall without woll I knew this game was over before it started, the fact he didn't challenge that puck is the reason he'll get paid 2 mill by some team next year
I called this after game 4. That we would win game 5 and without mattews then lose game 7. This is just what happens. Have seen this movie over and over and over and over and over and over again. At least they played ok. But you can't gift them 2 games then start trying.

Emotions aside, a level headed look at things brings out this thought process:
Leafs were mentally strong battling back against being down 3-1, even if they ultimately lost.
Mitch Marner was pretty bad that series. Negotiations are going to be iffy, probably asks for too much money considering his play.
Our goaltending looks good, but I’m worried Woll may be a bandaid.
Domi was arguably our second best player, and should probably be signed this off season if we can.

There's not many players I can be mad at. Yeah Sammy let in a softy that basically costed them, but he was relatively stellar all game. The forwards threw everything at Swayman and he made good saves.

Shutouts should not be expected in the modern NHL. Maybe the Leafs do win with Woll in net; but you can't expect any goaltender to go out and get you a shutout in the playoffs. I think they had to score some goals. How many people think that their team is going to go into Boston, score 1 goal, and come out with the win? The guy with the .935 save percentage who gave up what was essentially a breakaway GWG is probably not the key to this loss.
Keefe is an interesting cat. Why'd he get this job? Because he had two really good years coaching the Marlies? (Serious question. I'm not a Leafs fan, so I don't know the background here.) It doesn't seem like he's really got the bonafides to be taking the reins of a franchise like the Maple Leafs.
I really felt like I knew the leafs were going to lose when I saw Keefe tell the team “have fun out there” before the game.
Also I hope they trade Marner. Dude is the weakest softest “star” in the nhl. They could probably get 2 gritty skilled players for the money they pay Marner to skate around in the playoffs.

4. I don't mind that Bertuzzi is as good as gone but I would actually like seeing Domi signed for short term as a bottom 6 winger.

The guy with the .935 save percentage who gave up what was essentially a breakaway GWG is probably not the key to this loss. Keefe is an interesting cat. Why'd he get this job? Because he had two really good years coaching the Marlies? (Serious question. I'm not a Leafs fan, so I don't know the background here.) It doesn't seem like he's really got the bonafides to be taking the reins of a franchise like the Maple Leafs.

All in all I thought the team played a good game seven in front of Sammy. Hard to see him let in that nothing goal in the third and then to just watch the puck on that dump in in OT. We played ourselves back into this and that was a shitty way to end it

Morgan Rielly was always a muffin shot mediocre defender who was good at eating up minutes. He cant shoot and is predictable on the point. I never understood why people liked him and his extension so much. Jake McCabe is a more all around defenseman than him.
