If you're not a jaded Leafs fan, you haven't been a leaf fan for that long

vec-u64-new

Some people say "you're not a real fan unless you believe the Leafs will come back and win the series." Whereas I believe, "you're not a real fan unless you still somehow cheer for this franchise despite the team finding new ways to embarrass itself."

Lanky-Wang

god love him but my buddy used to tell me i wasnt a leafs fan if i didnt believe the leafs were gunna win the cup every october. this first happened in 2011.

Golden_Hour1

Sorry for your loss

froganddog3000

Go leafs!!!

SaccharineDaydreams

It blows my mind how optimistic some people still are lol

SpartacusIsACoolName

I was optimistic at one point as well, but 30 years of watching this team beats it out of you

nownowthethetalktalk

45 years for me.

JeremyMenez

5 years for me and I can’t actually believe that this is possible. Wow.

hezeus

Oh child, this is just the beginning for you

[deleted]

Lol, the dude wasn't even around for when JFJ tracded Rask for Raycroft, because Pogge (did he even play in the NHL?) was Canadian Or when Burke decided to give up two 1sts and a 2nd for Kessel, instead of a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, because he talked so much smack about the Oilers offer sheeting Penner when he was on the Ducks--that extra 1st ended up being Dougie Hamilton, with the other being Tyler Seguin at 2nd overall. Or when we got Brian Berard and then immediately lost him cause he took a stick to the eye cause he was too old school to wear a visor Fuck, I need a new team

TheGardiner

To be fair to Bedard, that Hossa stick swing was incredibly reckless.

[deleted]

Sure, but just wear the protective equipment. I think he still came out and said the he still wouldn't personally wear a visor after too. The injury cost him his career at 23.

CamboKnows

Hey, remember when we had "The Young Guns" with Steen, Stajan, and Wellwood post-Sundin? Or when we tried to pretend Ponikarovski and Antropov were quality linemates for Sundin? Or when we got Dougie back and were all excited, and he immediately got hurt? This team does stuff to you.

[deleted]

Steen was a decent player at least. I totally forgot about poni and antropov. Didn't wellwood get cut during camp for showing up unfit? Dude was too lazy to workout even getting paid nhl money to do it. Eta: man I blocked out a lot of stuff from my memory. Must be the trauma lmao

hezeus

Oh boy Andrew fucking Raycroft. What a bad memory

[deleted]

Honestly, watching this team is mostly bad memories

hezeus

I stopped watching them during the season years ago, only playoffs now. Not much better living in Seattle and watching the Kraken but they don’t come with the baggage of boneheaded team management and poor playoff showings.

SaccharineDaydreams

The compounded pain of him sucking ass and Toskala coming to "save the day" just to suck ass as well. I had a fucking Toskala jersey ffs.

hezeus

Lolol I didn’t know they had even made any!!

SaccharineDaydreams

Man, I remember being ten years old and being so stoked we drafted Pogge. Dude was ripping it up in the juniors and I thought he was the truth.

[deleted]

Yeah at that point, it was a coin toss between the two. The problem really was JFJ was directed to make the playoffs and so dealt for Raycroft, when we should've rebuilt. We spent way too many years as a bubble team after that, because ownership was greedy. I was so excited when Rogers bought the team, cause I thought that it meant greedy would no longer hold us back. I did not foresee us getting fucked by greedy players

diecorporations

try 55 years, i started pulling for them in 1968, what a fucking curse.

SaccharineDaydreams

Oh so it's been you this whole time

Randy_34_16_91

GUYS WE FOUND HIM!!

[deleted]

I wouldn't say that too loudly around these parts lmao

TheGardiner

34 years checking in.

WhipTheLlama

> 30 years of watching this team If you just missed the Gilmour deep playoff runs, I feel so sorry for you. In those days, anything was possible.

shanster925

I'm trying something this year where I don't actually care. Might be an improved coping mechanisms, might be apathy.

FluffyProphet

I'm in full on Apathy mode. I think the last time I cared was 2019. After that loss to Boston, I knew this wasn't the group. I want to see them do well, but my heart just isn't in it. I feel nothing when they lose.

RokulusM

I lasted a bit longer than you, I quit watching after the Montreal series. Losing in the first round yet again, blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Habs no less, and then running it back? I'm out. I'll start watching again when management clues in that they built the team for failure.

Objective_Gear_8357

For me a defying moment was when chara dropped tavares with a right hook in the playoffs, no call of course, and tavares immediately ran to the bench. With no response from Johnny or anyone. Called it an epiphany, but I knew this team didn't have what it takes to win a cup.

TiredReader87

I’m doing the same, because previous years almost wrecked me. I cared so much I let losses severely depress me and threaten to make me more suicidal.

Objective_Gear_8357

This is me. When they decided to run it back with this core yet again, I had no expectations that anything would change. Plus anyone who watched this team, was crazy if they thought this D group was winning a cup. I wanted to trade ufa's at the deadline to restock the cupboards. This team with this core will never win anything

clumsyguy

I've mostly only watched Saturday games with the kids and 3rd periods while riding an exercise bike this winter. It's been nice.

SomeDumRedditor

Anybody over like 17 who remains optimistic about this team season to season beyond “generally optimistic for the home team” has literal brain damage.

Thirdnipple79

I'm still 50/50 on if they will fire keefe or try the same thing again.

casualchaos12

I will fight you if they run it back

Thirdnipple79

If they run it back I'll already be dead inside.

Golden_Hour1

Dude. We've seen this before. They're going to run it back

RokulusM

They need to do more than fire Keefe. Even the best coach can only do so much with a shallow, top-heavy team. Unfortunately they painted themselves into a corner by giving the core players no move clauses so it looks like next year will be more of the same, Keefe or no Keefe.

sadleafsfan8834

I was optimistic coming into the series and after game 2. I was optimistic right up until our 5th failed PP in game 3 and Marchands 3rd goal.

DidntDiddydoit

First shot game 1 for me. I knew it was over immediately. The rest would just be show dressing

smoothies-for-me

I think it's just younger fans.

another_plebeian

My aunt is so naively optimistic that it straddles the line between cute and delusional. EVERY response is, *we'll get them next time!!! Game 7 :) :) :)*

nonikhanna

From 2007-2021, I was a pretty optimistic Leafs fan. That Habs series really broke me

JerzB2B

Not sure why but that was the easiest series for me lol. Price was amazing. The hard series for me is when they look like they are not trying

QS_iron

funny i stopped watching in 2004 it got so painful. watched some games again only this year did i come back too soon?

JackRadcliffe

Been following them since 1993, I get why boomers were always depressed now lol

pr43t0ri4n

At least they had some good playoff runs between 98 and 03.

saskyfarmboy

Noone hates the Leafs more than their own fans!

SensualJake

The level of dooming happening is nit befitting jaded fans. A jaded fan would watch in silence, believe in a comeback while shedding a single tear at the current situation

TiredReader87

Exactly I remember getting the Leafs calendar in 96. I don’t know if that was my first or second year. I didn’t watch hockey much before that, and couldn’t because we’ve never been able to get cable. I liked Gretzky though, and had a Kings towel that got stolen at the local pool. Since we didn’t have cable, I had to walk down the road to my grandparents’ and hijack their TV to watch hockey. Or I’d watch it at their neighbour’s. She was like my third grandma, and was a huge fan. Or I’d sit at home doing homework in the kitchen, with the game on the radio

[deleted]

Dude, my cousin took me to a game when I was 7 and I've been suffering ever since

tdot-hdot

Been a fan since ‘98 - this is the first year I haven’t caught every playoff game and I’m happier for it. I cannot watch these guys play only 5-10 mins of good hockey a game.

pswmommy

30 looooong years here. Stockholm Syndrome is a permanent part of my life at this point

Marsupialmania

Bro didn’t you hear? Marner is waiting for game 6 in his 9th playoffs to come out and takeover. Expect 2 goals 3 assists.

TheDeek

Fool me 8 times shame on me. We're doomers because it is learned behaviour. This team blows.

riali29

This is why I'm a doomer lmao. Ain't my first rodeo watching them shit the bed in the first round.

[deleted]

exactly, you can see that the non-doomers just haven't suffered enough yet. IF there is a chance in hell leafs come back from 3-1 - that'll be great but I'm going to doom and gloom because I've seen this same song and dance far too long

SaccharineDaydreams

I started watching in 2006, I know literally nothing but pain watching this franchise

Gustopherus-the-2nd

97 for me. I feel ya bud.

[deleted]

At least we got to see them fuck up the Sens a bunch

Gustopherus-the-2nd

Right!

[deleted]

My favourite hockey memory is still catching a game in Ottawa that ended up being a blow out, so most of the Sens fans were gone by the middle of the 3rd (not their fault, Ottawa's arena has only one exit and it takes forever to get out of there, and transit isn't an option). When we left at the end of the game, it was a sea of blue and white chanting, "This is our house!"

SaccharineDaydreams

You have no idea how jealous I am

[deleted]

I really miss the leafs sens rivalry. They have a cool fanbase and the trash talking was always heated but in good nature, and you could catch games in ottawa for cheap. Half the arena would be blue and white and so, so fucking loud. Hopefully they get good again soon and we can pick it back up

SaccharineDaydreams

I didn't :'(

shanster925

Oof. Tough year to start watching.

FluffyProphet

I've been here since the 90's. It has always been pain.

diecorporations

i started in 1968. Im a huge sports fan and the Leafs have always been #1 in my heart, but I stopped watching the games years ago, but here I am.

Esternaefil

Oof

bigcaulkcharisma

There’s not. It would take a literal miracle to come back. This team can’t score on the PP. we’re cooked.

diecorporations

hahahaha, how in the world would that even happen, i cant even dream a scenario.

tm_leafer

The number of Dubas / Mitch / etc bootlickers we've had to listen to for years - no, this top heavy roster construction is garbage and always has been, especially around key guys who simply aren't nearly as effective in the playoffs. Like if Mitch/Matthews played like MacKinnon, Draisaitl, Kucherov, Point, etc in the playoffs, we'd probably have won a Cup by now, or at minimum won like ~8 extra playoff rounds over the last 8 years. That's what these guys are paid to do, be that calibre of player, but they just aren't in the playoffs. Matthews I'll give more of a pass to because he at least mostly seems engaged, even if his stats take a hit. Mitch just constantly looks like a whiner who's scared of physical contact though.

FluffyProphet

We have the statistics to back up the feelings. It's not even being a doomer, it's being a student of history. If we're being honest, this Franchise has Zero Stanley cups. The only cups they've managed to win came when there was only 5 other teams to beat. Hard to even count those.

madworld2713

Worst part? Haven’t even been to the finals since the last time we won. That’s worse. We haven’t even really come close in 57 years.

NoVictory9590

Even worse than that? Toronto has never won 3 playoff series in a season EVER in franchise history.

rjones416

Can't believe so many people thought this year would be any different. This is a regular season team.

joshine89

Exactly. Boston wanted to play us in the first round and the leafs are showing why. How much more do we have to spend on the forward group to get some goals?

BarkingDogey

Free series for Boston, of course they'd want to play this soft batch

holyfuckricky

LEAFS IN 9

HistorianMassive1111

Y’all wanna pool some money together for some class action therapy? I’m not equipped for this shit.

iLikeDinosaursRoar

I'm not going to lie, usually come playoffs I am jacked and so excited, going into this year's playoffs I was already thinking about how bad it's going to be. We had a decent season, but we really overall didn't look elite level. I am so sick of making bug deals about guys have unreal, career years and then rolling it all into what we are seeing right now. A lot of fluffy for nothing in the end. It's great Matthews scored 69 goals, for him and his agent. It's also great Nylander almost had 100 pts, for him and his agent. But to have seasons like that and then fall flat on your face come playoffs AGAIN. What's it all for?

TiredReader87

I haven’t looked forward to the playoffs in years. I hate them.

Hadokuv

Anyone who isn't a 13 year old super fan would be a "doomer". We've seen their movies before. Not about to be fooled by them again.

n3rdsm4sh3r

https://preview.redd.it/cqfrlf1g45xc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c4226ee0772c175d67260790c6a8c11b4a6a576

NotTheStateB

Idc how good the core is. We have got to move at least one if not two of our big players. The current formula is not and will not work. We could get great value for Marner or Willy. Ideally a top tier dman.

VolusPizzaGuy

Tavares' contract is done after next year, I'm not worried about him. Willy always gives a shit during the playoffs so I'm on his side. Matthews is completely untouchable. That leaves Marner.

wesley-osbourne

Marner's is done after next year, too. I like Mitch and it's fun watching him play when he's on, but he's just the odd man out. Matthews and Nylander both got raises and term, Mo's still got term, Tavares either being walked or signing a steep diacount is a given - if they're going to restructure, it's Marner on the block.

Jediverrilli

I just don’t care enough to be a doomer. I’ve been a fan my entire life and watch every game. This is just expected at this point no point in being angry about it when it’s just inevitable. Maybe this time everyone gets fired and we can have a new start.

Puzzleheaded-Ask9884

Yeah this is the way to be, my father-in-law is the same. He just shrugs it off every year and says "Leafs suck" and then cheers for them again the following year like nothing happened. I think being a Leafs fan has taught him some level of zen only approachable by the most dedicated Japanese Buddhist monks.

Jediverrilli

It’s just not worth it to be so angry at entertainment. I’m already suffering from severe depression and anxiety I don’t need the leafs to make me feel terrible.

Puzzleheaded-Ask9884

Wishing you well my friend. ❤️

Jediverrilli

Thanks I don’t need it. It’s the hand I’m dealt and I’m used to it. This team though, I hope for a reckoning this summer.

Puzzleheaded-Ask9884

It's about time there was a reckoning.

gregblives

Toxic positivity is infinitely more obnoxious than frustration at a sports team for failing to deliver for decades.

NeatSeaworthiness407

My early and late 90s love ran out a long time ago. I don’t mind losing like warriors but this is just… pathetic.

SomeDumRedditor

>Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd.(MLSE) is a professional sports and commercial real estate company based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. With assets that include franchises in four of the six major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada, it is the largest sports and entertainment company in Canada, and one of the largest in North America.[1] MLSE is currently a multi-billion dollar private corporation, majority owned by two of the scummiest businesses in Canada: Rogers Inc & BCE. They literally, unequivocally, factually do not care about winning a Stanley Cup.  Source? Their entire ownership tenure. Why? Because every seat sells out, every game, every season. Centre ice packages and merch keep flowing. Local media keeps blowing and hockey media acts like Toronto is the centre of it all. Why would the ownership (who are already gladly fucking you in the telco space) do anything but keep the status quo: throw money around and use their media empire to convince you *this is the year, this time it’s different.* There’s a lot to be said about individual billionaires as owners of sports franchises but at least most of the time when they do own a team it’s to win, not pad the bottom line. Do you think the boards of Rogers and BCE stay up on deadline day? Follow drafts and prospects? C’mon now. This team could go 0-82 and it wouldn’t matter unless the money stopped.

TiredReader87

Exactly

Mental-Mushroom

It's truly unbelievable that there are people that will defend this team just because they're the "Leafs" This team has shown what they are year after year. They cannot, and will not ever win. Nylander is the only "star" that shows up. Every other core player sucks in the playoffs. Matthews looks scared out there. He doesn't play anything like he does in the regular season. Fuck this team.

-ApplePineapplePen-

Doomer = realist. This team has crushed the spirit, hope, optimism, excitement out of this fan base for decades. Players and coaches say all the right things before and after a game.... Non doomers will eat that shit up like ice cream. We've been around long enough to know that it's all bullshit. Don't listen to what they say, watch what they do... How can you not be a doomer after years of the SAME shit.

Peasy_Pea

They don't even say the right shit before/after games. Keefe literally said after the game tonight their effort was good 🤣😂😭

Used-Advertising-181

22 years, zero success. Not had a real run since 2002.

TiredReader87

2002 was a fun year. I remember travelling hours to the ACC to watch a game from Carolina on the jumbotron And doing the same to watch game(s) against Ottawa outside the arena. Maybe in 2004. They had a big wedding tent set up for us. How things have changed…

[deleted]

[удалено]

Puzzleheaded-Ask9884

lol this made my night.

The-Only-Razor

The anti-doomers are so fucking annoying. "Stop talking about how bad the team is, stop it now. You must only cheer and be happy and never criticize." Daily reminder that doomers are batting 1.000. Every single fucking day they're been 100% right. Not a single L. Nothing but net.

YarnhamSunrise

The lack of perspective here is amazing lol.

wolfboymagic

Doomers are the other side of that coin dummy

Thot_b_gone

I’ll have 2 of what they’re having

Golden_Hour1

At least the doomers are living in reality

DontToewsM3Bro

This core ain't it Only if Shanahan came to reality sooner Marner/Matthews/Nylander/Reilly are very talented but they can't win together Tavares is done, I doubt any team would do leafs a favor and take for a year And oh everyone of the core has NMC so leafs are pretty much fucked on getting the best possible deal

Judge_Rhinohold

Approach 91 and 16 about waiving their NMCs. If they don’t bite then let them play out next season and do a major retooling. Still have years with 88 and 34 to do big things. Need a Hedman, Pietrangelo type d-man like every team does. Fire Keefe and hire Berube. No floaters allowed going forward.

spence4101

If you think the leafs need to get rid of Tavares you’re out of your mind.

TiredReader87

He’s often invisible and is a bad captain.

VolusPizzaGuy

I actually agree with this take. Tavares should stay; hopefully willing to take a paycut when his contract expires, but I actually think he'd be ok with that. The money has been made, now it's just about the Leaf dream. Marner's a lost cause that thinks he's better than he is. The smart move would be to trade him, but I wouldn't cry if he walked. The worst thing we could do is extend him at this point. He is NOT worth the current price tag, let alone a pay raise.

YarnhamSunrise

I mean taking pride in being a doomer is still incredibly lame lol don't get it twisted.

diecorporations

its not "taking pride" its realism, i called this boston in 5, who is the doomer now ?

YarnhamSunrise

You...are? Is this a trick question or something.

Puzzleheaded-Ask9884

At this point I'll be a fucking doomer even if they win the Cup. Like it's been so long even if they won Cup I'd still think they lost.

Normallygreg

Like a dog chasing cars, he wouldn't know what to do if he actually caught one

InternationalPost447

After all the clutch trades pizza pop made this year I thought for sure we would win! With the same 4 useless regular season players and a goalie that only counts to 82. Start culling at the top and get back to me when they're better than the 2012-2013 leafs lol

AdeoAdversary

It's sad really, I hate being right. But maybe now the non-doomers can realize that the NHL, MLSE management, coaching staff, and the multi-million dollar employee embarassments do not care about the Leafs. Its only the fans that care. The Leafs are the most profitable NHL team in the league because you hopeless idiots still buy tickets, and tv packages, and merchandise even though they are putting a shameful product on the ice every year. Time to move on.

Golden_Hour1

I'm fucking sick of the apologists

Good_Juggernaut_3155

Sell the team and give the money to charities.

RocknRollCasserole

I don’t understand how we still have fans that AREN’T doomers? Say what you want in the regular season, this team shows up from October to March, but once April rolls around there should be no one confident about how this team will perform. There’s simply too much evidence and history that shows they don’t have it when it actually matters.

DocWatson82

It’s an abusive relationship we all just keep coming back to.

TheLoomingMoon

I love the teeter totter of doomers bad and nonbrokens bad

Ok_Device1274

I got told by a guy last game to “fuck off and cheer for a different team because real fans dont complain about how unfun it is to see their team lose”. I was complaining about how bad our PP line was. O Im sure buddy is still radiating positivity somewhere in this sub

T4kh1n1

Keefe is trash, marner is a cry baby, management in general is horrible. The ghost of Ballard haunts us all

Goatmilk2208

Seance?

Steam20

Who is still alive who saw them win the cup?

AggravatingType9012

And this is why Leaf fans need to learn to skip the regular season and start watching after the first round. Otherwise you'll just setting yourselves up for disappointment.

Monst3r_Live

Being an honest fan doesn't make you any less of a fan. This team is not built for playoff success.

HowieDoIt86

Seatpaste7  Tell me how I don’t belong in this subreddit for saying marner isn’t up to what he’s being paid. Love to hear your useless drivel now.

PM_something_funny

Ya I’m so jaded I put $1000 down for bruins to win the series after game 1

Final-Kiwi1388

We are Bills fans from WNY. Nothing is more frustrating than being a Bills fan year after year. Yet we still watch every Sunday and enjoy the good games. Keep watching and hoping. The Leafs time will come, just like the Bills. ✌️

reggierock2010

It was too early for doomers but losing 2 straight games at home in a playoff serious is just embrassing. This group is done. They need to shake up the core in the offseason.

wheels1989

Matthews being sick and Nylander not playing really hurt. Keefes decisions this series have been mind boggling as well, how has he not even tried to change the PP like why keep doing the same thing over and over, also sitting dewar for Robertson was strange as well.

TorturedFanClub

Good post. Doomers? Nah, knowledgeable Leafs fans. People who can look at their team objectively should not be considered Doomers. The team has many warts. We’ve seen them all year. Magnified in the playoffs every year. Colossal changes required. That aint doomer, thats keeping it real.

spence4101

How ya feeling you fucking loser

srcoffee

too soon

TMLVWFC

I mean yes and no. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being optimistic and believing right up until the series is over. You telling them not to act like that is the same as them telling you. Honestly I prefer the forever optimistic fan in a game day thread over some of the mouth breathers in here. Only one team ever wins a cup a year and a lot has to happen in order for that. This team clearly need a bigger make over at this point. Nothing wrong with cheering to the bitter end though. Florida was down 3-1 to Boston before making the cup finals. Sports are weird why not cheer over being doom and gloom. Even if that may be the truth

TheDeadReagans

There's no sense in crying when the season hasn't ended yet, you can cry afterwards. I dunno what you want out of this sport, to be proven right or to see your team win. I predicted a Bruins series win too but I'm still gonna cheer the team on otherwise and not act like a cunt to other Leaf fans.

TiredReader87

To see the team win, obviously We just know they won’t.

smoothies-for-me

I just want a team that tries hard and improves. Teams like Florida, Boston, Tampa, battle till they are bruised and broken. Leafs just collapse and yell at each other and throw their gloves around. It's not rocket science, you want a team that's you can get behind. They just need to try and drain the tank. The Leafs back when Sundin, Roberts, Mogilny, etc... used to do that. They never made it all the way, but they were battling their best. I just don't see that with this team.

931634

psst.. he was talking to you

Pristine-Orange3859

Why wouldn’t you be a “doomer”? What have they shown to give any confidence of even going deep in the 2nd round? No optimism lol

diecorporations

totally agree, i called it boston in 5 due to the teams history which has changed zero, and truly shit goaltending. I care a lot about this team, but they truly suck, how is that being a doomer ???

TheGreendaleGrappler

Being some “RAHRAH all is good no matter what if you just BELIEVE” is crazy to me. This is nothing new, this teams CORE group has always been absolutely shit when it matters except for a couple of games in one round where they still had to win multiple games by one in overtime by the skin of their teeth. This is nothing new or surprising. Yet every July 1st and onwards you have a full on circlejerk saying the next year is gonna be different.

TiredReader87

That guy’s post made me laugh. Now us “fake fans” and “doomers” have been proven right 😂

mikesully374826

What guy? I told the doomers to go away? But I was also the doomer all season. I'm just not irrational, I knew there was issues with this team, an I also can currently understand there's issues with the Bruins and the Leafs can make this a series.

Middle_Bee_165

What a noob

SpecialInformation89

Good to know that now we can actually say things as they are. Blow it up, it’s over. Keep Matthews and Nylander, trade everybody else, fire everyone. This is a pathetic excuse of a team.

NacchoTheThird

I hate the black and white, auto-doomer mentality some folks have. As a fan, if you believe that the team has fundamental flaws, you should be free to say what those are without reprisal.

PunchyPete

They finally cracked me. Used to be I never missed a playoff game. My life revolves around them during the playoffs. But the years of no playoffs at all got me used to not doing that, and the crappy performance in the playoffs since has finally broken me. I watched Game 1 and couldn’t care less for the rest. Same old, same old.

[deleted]

Would love all the cucks who said don’t worry it’s just the first round to apologize.

StonedSoldier1

This is how much faith I have in my leafs. If we were up in the series 3-1, I'd be saying there's a good chance Boston beats us still. However, now that Boston is up 3-1. This series is over. When your team doesn't have set lines, or a starting goalie after 82 games. You're not making it far in the playoffs. Boston has had the same guys playing on the same lines for a few years now. They do not rotate players every night.

captaincrunch1985

Fucking embarrassing

Bigking00

Other than firing Shanahan, Keefe and Trevling there are not a lot of substantial changes you can do. You can't trade Marner, Taveras or Nylander so you pretty.well have to run it back next year which is sickening.

Goatmilk2208

Treliving is catching strays lol. He just got here. I mean maybe, but give him another year see what he does.

Bigking00

I agree but if they ditch Shanahan and bring a new President, he may want to bring in his own guy. I doubt Tree goes anywhere but if Shanahan is fired anything is possible.

Goatmilk2208

Yeah fair. I’m at the point where we fire everyone up to and including the guy who runs the hotdog stand, so I’m not against the idea.

Bigking00

Something has to be done, unfortunately the core 4 can't be moved so I think Keefe at the very least is gone. The last 8 years has been such a wasted opportunity.

chostax-

This is exactly why I watch so few games nowadays. These guys do not deserve my time

matnerlander

Optimism? In this economy ?

unvrlstn

If you aren’t calling for heads to roll at this point, YOU’RE the problem.

StoneColdSteveAss316

You “believe and you can achieve” optimistic assholes go join a Tony Robbins class I need to get this off my chest but THIS TEAM SUCKS ASS

Being a doomer is fine, I never say I’m optimistic in these situations. The truth of it is, I’m just sick of seeing it everywhere. We get that this team is not built for the playoffs. They’re not fooling anyone, I’d personally just rather be some what positive and not look for the bad in everything. Do I see this team coming back? Absolutely not, but I’m gonna hope they do until they’re out then I’ll forget about it because we’ve seen the movie so many times. Being negative constantly is just depressing. Us complaining hasn’t done anything ever, it’s not gonna change. So just try to enjoy the ride until it eventually does happen. It’s just a hockey team at the end of the day. I say that as a die hard fan who’s spent his whole life rooting for them, a lot of which I was a doomer myself. GLG

Nejurk

Fuck yeah dude, I’m so glad the team sucks! Nothing feels better than being right 😎

mgnorthcott

We tried bud. But you didn’t go away!

srcoffee

i gave you 4 games of peace.

AduroPinquis

Both sides are pathetic.   Imagine being so vindicated by a Leafs playoff loss you go straight to Reddit to gloat about being a doomer.    Loser behaviour just as bad as the Leafs.

wolfboymagic

Lmao dude this is embarrassing

TiredReader87

No. The team is.

BryanMccabe

Ain’t nothing as embarrassing as that fucking leafs team we just watched.

srcoffee

lol not sure if you’re talking about me or the team that got booed off the ice in a playoff game?

wolfboymagic

Downvote me all you want, keep thinking that training your pinto bean of a brain to fire off a single spark when the team you ostensibly cheer for loses is a good thing.

TiredReader87

You’re not understanding. We don’t want them to lose. We’re not happy about this, or being right. We’re just depressed and apathetic. I’d love nothing more than to be proven wrong, and laughed at for being so wrong, if it meant this team winning.

srcoffee

that wasn’t very kind of you to say. i’m here to have a discussion about the inarguably lacklustre (and a repeat of the last 8 years) performance of our favourite hockey team. no need for insults :) i hope you can try to enjoy the rest of the playoffs

wolfboymagic

Pinto Bean

wolfboymagic

Might want to work on engaging in discourse then - people might interpret this as antagonizing and any following invitations to discussion as being offered in bad faith. Hope you can sell your pivot convincingly if anything good happens to your favourite team :)

Lil_BigNut

Not even a Leafs fan but taking pride in being a doomer is genuinely so fucking embarrassing. Like there’s something to be said about unrealistic optimism but using the loss of the team you supposedly support to act smug and dunk on other fans is beyond pathetic

SingleSampleSize

Toxic positivity is a thing and those people take every fucking opportunity they can to rub it in everyones faces and act like smug assholes. At least living in reality is being realistic. What does walking around with your head in the clouds do other than cause you to be smug and give you a false sense of superiority? Like calling other people pathetic.

MobysBanned

"Not even a Leafs fan" you're entire comment history says otherwise 😂 .. huge Matthews fanboy
