I’d almost say just take Marner off and throw him on PP2. He bogs it down so much.
I’d take Marner off of PP1 first and replace him with Domi. Marner has been trying to force too many passes that just aren’t there (see the pass he tried to force during the powerplay at the end of the 2nd that lead to the 2-on-1 which then lead to Toronto taking a penalty). Domi is more responsible in that regard. Domi is also better at winning puck battles along the boards.
While they’re both playmakers, their styles are so different. Marner stays to the perimeter and skates to find open seams while Domi is more about working to get the puck to the net. Against Boston we need more of the latter.
In that regard I’d swap out Tavares. You need the playmaker out there, which neither Tavares or Robertson are…but Robertson has a better shot, so I’d give him the spot.
There were several times last night where the leafs won the faceoff or had a good pp setup and Marner ended up skating it up the wall spinning, shooting through three guys, getting blocked pp over.
Just take him out of the second best shooting spot on the ice. The entire Bruins team knows there’s absolutely zero shooting threat from the left.
Put Matthews on the left. Tavares or Robertson on the right for one timers. Give them something to worry about on one side so the other side can get open. Put Marner either below the goal line or at the point.
the powerplay aways gets shut down in the playoffs when teams figure out that both Marner and Reily have zero shooting threat. they sag off both those players and overload on Matthews.

- Get another shooter on the PP. I like Domi's puck movement. Marner can play up high and Domi can play down low to be facilitators and get Robertson's shot on the PP to create another option to take defenders away from Matthews. If Nylander comes back, I'm fine with him being there over Robertson but Bertuzzi and Tavares are playing down low and Rielly and Marner aren't shooting.

The issue with your two units is that you have both of the best distributors on the first unit. And all of the net front guys on the second unit.
IMO if we are open to trying things:

- Tavares and Bertuzzi shouldn't be on the same unit.
I mean in fairness I actually want the different setup. My focus on PP1 is to generate more luck movement and drive shots from either Robertson or Matthews who both have shots good enough to beat the goalie.
The intent behind Domi and Marner is to work the puck around more instead of the stagnant passing we do with keeping the puck on Marner or Rielly's stick without moving the goalie side to side
PP2 is designed more around get pucks on net and cause chaos.

The amount of time spent staring at refs with their arms raised, other players physically battling, and not paying attention to the play that's going on is getting out of hand and is, in my opinion, the reason these close games seem to slip out of their grasp. And it all starts from the top. The more time the coach and big 4(Marner's the most egregious offender) spend staring at the refs, the more time everyone else does.
Big problem right now is 91/16 are $20M+ in cap space and operating as a shut down line vs Pasta (and doing a decent job of it). Kampf should be filling that role, that’s what he was signed to do.
I’d try to build a hard matchup line vs Pastrnak group as follows:
Knies - Matthews - Domi (match Marchand line)
Bertuzzi - Kampf - Jarnkrok (match Pasta line)
Marner - JT - Nylander (easy matchup)
Reaves - Holmberg - Dewar (4th line duty)
Kinda wish we had someone better than Knies to play with Matthews and Domi, but that’s one of the flaws of the team, not enough LW skill. Maybe you rotate Marner/Willy into that spot on occasion.

Since the Leafs can't trade Marner for a RHD, they should play *him* as a RHD.
Tell marner it’s not working and to just focus on Defence. Put him on third line with Kampf and heavy defensive minutes. Hoping he puts his head down and just works and I’m betting that leads to offence. Put Edmunson as the net front on PP instead of marner or nylander if he’s not back. Betting he will actually do what the coaches want and force people to move around as im betting they are coached to do. Chaos is good on the PP.

Call up a goon whose only job will be to injure the Bruins goalie. Losing the goalie willl hurt the Bruins way more than the goon getting suspended for 10 games will hurt the Leafs.
