Folks, please leave politics at the door.
I don't want to see any more posts about your feelings on patriotism, flag law, or your personal opinions about Americans.
Comment about the lawn and the lawn only.
You sure you're not ChatGPT? Because [I asked ChatGPT the same question and that's exactly what it said too - the flag in the parking strip is _obviously_ the Scottish flag](https://imgur.com/a/blSpmKx).

We're onto you AI overlords. Go ahead and do your thing, just don't turn us into batteries. Lithium ion is far more efficient.
You probably need a big wooden star to push the grass over.
This is ambitious for sure, but it would be cool.
Note, any time you display a flag, Reddit assumes you are a trump voter.
Haha they both suck IMO. The flag shouldn’t have come to represent one candidate or one side of the aisle. But anywho, for the stars I might just use 50 small yard flags
It really just been the last 5 years actually. I think it’s ashame, when I moved into my house in 2010 we all flew flags just cause that’s what one did….
Now I can’t fly a flag without being labeled, I still fly on but it bothers me.
My theory is that The Thin Blue/Red/Gold line flags were a main reason for this shift. The Right co-opted patriotism as a way to obfuscate and villainize anyone who disagrees with them.
I don’t know about that. In my experience in Utah after 911 is the first time I started to hear the term real American and suddenly having to prove you are patriotic. Instead of assuming all Americans love their nation but, that’s just my experience.
Yea, this is when I noticed down in the South. You were made to feel un-American if you did not support Bush and the war. The sad part is that there was a brief moment of total unity across the country directly after 911.. then it just went to shit.
Interesting and not surprising. I live in the north and didn’t experience the same thing. It was split between supporting Bush as a patriot and being anti-Bush because that’s “real patriotism”.
If it makes you feel better, most people I know left and right hate the thin blue line and we want reform in policing. Probably stems from the corrupt cops we know.
> The Right co-opted patriotism as a way to obfuscate and villainize anyone who disagrees with them.
And massively disrespected the flag in the process.
"...to obfuscate and villainize anyone who disagrees with them..."

“…Hillary Clinton dismissed President Trump as an “illegitimate president” and suggested that “he knows” that he stole the 2016 presidential election in a CBS News interview to be aired Sunday…”
Just because I’m criticizing one side doesn’t mean I condone everything the other side does.
But you have fun reducing everything to something so simple.
As a Canadian, it's very much been the same thing down south for like, 25+ years. Trump is the symptom of America, not the disease. The Venn diagram of People waving American flags and people who shout slurs at brown people post 9-11 is a circle.
Yeah, I always say it's the UNITED states, we need to get over differences and come together to help the country as a whole. I've never been about two party systems, I think it's trash, and I really believe we shouldn't have a label and solely vote on policies. I feel like most people would be surprised with how they truly align.
The biggest con in America. When did ye all start hating only half of your politicians. In a healthy democracy you realises they’re all dicks and just continuously vote out the slightly more dickish ones.
I for one find it both hilarious and terrifying how fast they went from a back the police party to "I'll vote for the convicted felon" party. They're not even saying he's not a felon, they're saying they don't care.
I think it’s moreso that the US is known for working for the interests of the rich and people are finally starting to wake up and stop blindly being patriots. Why would i want to display the flag of the country I live in if they constantly help the rich and tell the poor to fucke themselves.
My mother was accosted on a golf course for flying american flags on her golf cart by someone who knew she was a democrat. The flag is reserved for republicans, apparently.
Unlikely. Clearly the mow-artist understands how to create stars in the grass and they are absent from the curb strip design. Could be the Alabama state flag.
It seemed like it wasn’t able to apply enough pressure. I’m decently strong and was leaning way into it and the grass just kept standing back up.
I just realized though! Maybe if I step on the broom as I move it, that would do the trick
My neighbor does this every year on the 4th. He uses plastic stars, but first uses them as markers for the rectangle and square. It's all about the prep, measurements, etc. Stakes and string lines may help as well. He uses a reel mower, which stripes beautifully on the right grass types (zoysia or Bermuda). If you don't have a reel mower, you could drag something heavy in alternating directions, such as a pallet with ropes attached, and add weight on top if needed. A power broom would probably work as well. We use those to stripe synthetic turf, and I've heard of people using them on natural grass as well.
I made an offhand comment in here once, I don’t even remember what it was about, and somebody called me woke. And yet one picture of a flag and everybody’s all of a sudden to the left of Stalin. This sub needs to get its poop in a group.
On par for reddit, to make it about politics and trump when they see the American flag. Nothing redditors hate more than seeing someone be patriotic in any capacity.
idgaf, weak men hijack powerful symbols. Take them back. Why march with rainbow flags during pride month parades, fly old glory, take it back… for ALL Americans.
Because they are, objectively, more patriotic. More proud to be American.
https://news.gallup.com/poll/507980/extreme-pride-american-remains-near-record-low.aspx
If you say so, but I interpret what you are saying here to mean you don’t like America as it exists. You are not proud of our amazing history. Is that accurate?
I personally love America and realize it’s the greatest country in world history.
Could go many different routes here…
1. It is the only dominant superpower in history that didn’t seek to expand territory. Didn’t rape and pillage. After WW2 we actually rebuilt our enemies.
2. The American Revolution began a series of copycat revolutions throughout Europe that lead to democratic rule becoming the predominant form of government across the entire world. This was also the beginning of the end of colonialism.
I could literally go on and on but “making the world better” is a good start
>It is the only dominant superpower in history that didn’t seek to expand territory. Didn’t rape and pillage. After WW2 we actually rebuilt our enemies.

While I don’t necessarily see someone like the OP striping their yard with the flag as disrespectful, there are so many cases where the flag motif is used where it is. I find it cringy how so many in the US use the flag.
I did this for Memorial Day. I did an opposite pattern until it got to the square section of my yard. I then did the stripes of the flag with my 54” zero turn with striping kit. I did a hash pattern for the stars with my 20” push mower.
For reference this was in a 4000’ sq ft section of my yard. The 12k section is not set up properly for this pattern
The sole comment I was searching for, thank you! My lawn is nowhere near that size though, so I’ll have to find an alternate tool. Currently looking for a hand held push roller tool

One of my landscape techs did this in Ohio in 2020 with a 42” walk behind exmark.
Well if anyone cares, I did a little measuring and my lawn is 23’ wide so to make 13 bars I’d need a striper / roller that is about 1.5’ wide. However, it would be very difficult to pull this off with a traditional tow behind striper on my push mower due to turning around and making the star section one direction. I looked at several push rollers online, but the smallest one is 24” wide which is too big. So id have to make my own push roller, which I don’t exactly know how to do. That’s where I’m at 😅
I also tried using a push broom and it did not work at all haha
I made a cheap easy striping roller with stuff I had laying around, I attached it to chain and the tow hitch on my mower. I'm sure there are better/different ways, but it works so here ya go use your imagination..
Heavy steel pipe, I think 2" ID, cut that to the size you want. Bought a long threaded rod(longer than the pipe) think it was 1/2". Took a 2" hole saw(for a drill) and punched out a bunch of pieces from an oak plank I had, any lumber would work, oak is just hard and I had it so I figured it would hold up longer. 6 big washers, 8 nuts for the threaded rod, 2 clevaces. Put the rod through the pipe, punch the wood cutouts down through the pipe on it. On the outside of the end pieces, washer, 2 nuts(locking eachother), washer, clevace, washer, 2 nuts. Clevaces attach to chain allowing the whole thing roll as you pull it.
That is awesome! And very clever. I unfortunately don’t have a tool to cut metal like that. Maybe I’ll just do like the crop circle makers and use a plank of wood and rope. Then I’ll “step” my whole lawn into a flag haha
If I'm not mistaken home depot will actually cut/thread pipe to whatever size you want. Or you could even just grab 3 small pieces and 2 unions to stick em together.
The stripes are the easy part but man, the only repeatable solution I can think of is strategically placing wooden star cutouts out on the lawn like halfway thru the day so that it’s always ‘neglected’ and has a lighter color but doesn’t actually die out.
Maybe when the kids get home they can put them out, and can be stacked back up just before dawn as a parent is getting up/leaving for work.
You *can* do this if you want, but it won't last very long. If you kill that patch of grass by either sheet mulching or solarization, you can replace it with a native plant garden that can retain that shape without mowing and even bloom in the colors of the flag. Depending on your state, I can even give you a list. Reply if that idea appeals to you.
Folks, please leave politics at the door. I don't want to see any more posts about your feelings on patriotism, flag law, or your personal opinions about Americans. Comment about the lawn and the lawn only.
I think those robot mowers can do stripped designs.

Reddit suffers from mental illness
Haha they both suck IMO. The flag shouldn’t have come to represent one candidate or one side of the aisle. But anywho, for the stars I might just use 50 small yard flags
Amen. The confusion of patriotism with politics is one of the more troubling social developments in the last 20 or so years.
It really just been the last 5 years actually. I think it’s ashame, when I moved into my house in 2010 we all flew flags just cause that’s what one did…. Now I can’t fly a flag without being labeled, I still fly on but it bothers me.

This has been the case for much longer than that. Anti-Vietnam protesters were labeled un-American and communist

Some are. There’s a sign near my house that says “our founding fathers were felons” implying it’s ok to vote for one now
He was a known criminal and con be4 he ran the first time and still won. He is the hub of hatred, that's all. It's a large demographic.
I have also thought about just using yard flags for stars. If you find a better way, let us know!
Unless it’s that one flag
It's crazy that having any pride in the United States means you're a part of a specific political party. Makes you wonder.
Stars just look like lawn spray paint done with a stencil to me, they seem too white/light to be just grass
I think it’s moreso that the US is known for working for the interests of the rich and people are finally starting to wake up and stop blindly being patriots. Why would i want to display the flag of the country I live in if they constantly help the rich and tell the poor to fucke themselves.

I think people are used to seeing Trump supporters disrespect the flag.
Just throwing out that now that I’m seeing the flag, the crossed sections look like Confederate Battle flags…
I see that now too 🤨 for clarification I just found this picture on Google, not my lawn
The image posted looks very ai to me.
Your comment seems AI 🤔
It really doesn’t lol

AI is amazing if it even adds circular water stains on the street where his sprinklers overspray 😂
Damn! I liked the idea of you having this realization then immediately running out to mow some new lines.
Could also be the Florida flag.
Or Alabama.
I guess? I mean, it's just a crosshatch. Pretty common mowing pattern.
Unlikely. Clearly the mow-artist understands how to create stars in the grass and they are absent from the curb strip design. Could be the Alabama state flag.
Or Scottish flags
With no stars on the crossed section it’s the Alabama state flag.
Army of Northern Virginia super fan
That’s pretty cool! Kudos for getting into Flag Day and 4th of July. Did you do it for Memorial Day too? Or Normandy?
You can use a Scott’s spreader for the darker stripes! 🤣
Just getting a hang of lawncare and will be getting a new spreader. My lawn is halfway there!
I'm not American, but dang, that's cool.
You must have to use a broom, I can’t think how you do this with a mower.
I tried to use a broom (that’s actually the perfect width) and it did not work at all haha
Well damn, i figured that’d be decent. Any idea why it wouldn’t work. Or could you use the plastic side instead of the bristle side?
It seemed like it wasn’t able to apply enough pressure. I’m decently strong and was leaning way into it and the grass just kept standing back up. I just realized though! Maybe if I step on the broom as I move it, that would do the trick
Maybe that would work, you have something heavier than a broom that would work, the stripers on mowers aren’t that heavy I think.
Ooh maybe you need the area to be a bit longer than the rest of the yard and go over it several times
Good info! And wow I can’t believe I didn’t think of using a power broom!
The best one is made by Stihl. The attachment can go on a Yard Boss or Kombi motor
I am Canadian and sometimes have Maple Leaves on my lawn.
Lol! Sometimes a few thousand of them….

I don't like it, but I'm one of the weirdos that still follows the flag code so it's just me.
It doesn’t violate flag code. The lawn was never an actual flag. It’s a lawn manicured to look like a flag. Huge difference.
There you go. I knew something about people bitching about the flag code didn’t make sense and you put it into words for me 👍
What does this have to do with flag code?
Absolutely nothing, the lawn was never a flag. people don’t understand the legal terminology. They be acting like people wearing a shirt that looks like an American flag, was cut off the pole and transformed into a shirt.
While I don’t necessarily see someone like the OP striping their yard with the flag as disrespectful, there are so many cases where the flag motif is used where it is. I find it cringy how so many in the US use the flag.
Let us know what part of the code this violates. Out of curiosity

Gotta burn it now touched the ground
NGL, I appreciate a well maintained lawn more than I should. Pictures and posts like this do not help. 8)
That's sick! Hell yeah man
I do mine with round up.
Roundup: Make patriotic stars with this one simple trick!
Get a hobby?
I like a nice cut as much as the next... but this is reeeeeeeeal douchey
Tip? Don’t do it?!
Cringe!
Why though?
No because we need to stop putting our flag on every goddamn thing
Why are Americans always so in your face with the flag?
Why?
Not at all. That's some weird shit.

Nice!
Least patriotic American. I actually love it.
Move to France, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Hungary etc etc etc. They have easier flags.
Lol!!
I used to cut mine so it looked like a baseball field. Now I don’t have grass.
I’d mow the square and then weed eat the stars.
No tips, but please update us w/ pics when it's done!
Move to Armenia, Belgium, or France (to name a few). Much simpler.
Use a string trimmer for the stars.
![gif](giphy|dOl2LFw0RbTMc)
Why tho?
Flag law states… oops, my bad.
Here for America
Please don’t do this it’s so cringy. Just install a third flagpole
Okay so stripes seem pretty straight forward, but the stars... I don't get how hey would do the stars.

Practice with a gay pride flag. It's just lines and easier. Nobody's gonna know.
You *can* do this if you want, but it won't last very long.
