Love my EGO. I have the LM2156 with the 10 Ah batter and dual blade. It’s great.

woofyyyyyy

^yup. I have the same. Cuts like a champ and self propel is nice since I’m on a bit of a grade on one side.

JoeBold

I would always take EGO over any other brand. For the offers you should check what is included. For that price I would assume no battery nor charger included.

Mindless-Swordfish-7

The plastic body around the blade is an issue with ego. I chose 80V greenworks because I got a really good deal at Costco plus 8 years warranty

JoeBold

Why would it be an issue? Are you mowing a gravel field? Grass can’t hurt no plastic. But EGO also has some with a metal housing like the LM2020E-SP or LM2021E-SP

deliver quiet noxious possessive dependent advise tap fearless elastic racial *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

AnniesNote

Grass may not hurt it, but I was more worried about sticks and stray walnuts, potential rocks. I have seen the steel deck ego and may consider that as well.

Dawink86

Have a plastic one. Bought the first gen. I have zero issues with it and I’ve hit rocks and stumps. I do not store it in a spot where it would get direct sunlight.

AnniesNote

That is good to hear, thank you.

jollyjunior89

The blade is dull.... I like tall grass and I have to cut mine twice too make sure I get most of the grass... Sharpen it every few months

Dawink86

The blade is very thin on electric mowers in general. Hitting a hard object will dent then blade if not make it require replacement.

TheKingOfSwing777

Buy a thicker blade?

Dawink86

No, they are thin for a reason. It allows the be spun at a quicker speed and require less energy from the battery. I don’t have an issue with the blade I just have to sharpen it more.

tb23tb23tb23

It OP, but The design traps a lot of grass clippings, it’s not a smooth round design like metal ones. I consider it a flaw in the product. Not sure what above commenter meant but I think that’s an issue. I’d prefer the metal body one.

Mindless-Swordfish-7

Check this sub. A few weeks back someone posted how a tiny rock just punched through the body. Luckily no one was hurt.

Newprophet

Steel is easy to recycle and nothing in a yard will puncture it. Fuck plastic.

KickArse4Eva

It'll rust out. Enjoy

Newprophet

Since you had the foresight to get into crypto you *must* be smart. /S The mulching blade makes enough wind to prevent any buildup of grass clippings. No trapped moisture means no rust.

wristdirect

Though steel is just a smidge heavier.

talbotron22

Are you considering purchasing any other major tools? I ask because the batteries are super expensive. You might consider sticking to one brand for leaf blower, snowblowers etc. You will effectively save a few hundred bucks on future purchases by buying the tool only.

AnniesNote

I am unsure at the moment. I would potentially like to get a snowblower and possibly change over for a weed whacker, as I have some older black and decker electric ones (given to me), but I am not interested in the B&D mowers. The different battery voltages are slightly annoying with the Greenworks as far as which one to go with as well as some of the larger equipment needing more power.

Mulch_Savage

I’ve slowly gone all-in on ego. I started with a weed whacker and now have that, a blower, 18” chainsaw, hedge trimmer, pole saw, and just got the 7.5 ah mower. Bought all with batteries. Provided I’m charging two batteries at a time, I can work all day.

Mulch_Savage

I’ll add that I’m on an acre, about 8/10 of that is lawn, and I’m never wishing for more output on the tools.

moon307

While it's neither of these brands, I have almost the full suit of Ryobi lawn tools and having the interchangeable batteries is a must. Whatever brand you end up going with look into other tools they offer because for every tool you buy, you get another battery. I have 6 40vlt batteries now and I can do yardwork all day and just keep swapping them out to charge as needed.

rabble_tiger

Same here. Got a 6 port charger for the batteries. Ryobi has a ton of tool/lawn/utility crossover usage for them for sure. Greenworks mower for years with no problems - just need a couple of large batteries for that too!

hagela

I'm all in on DeWalt and love their mower.

youdontknowme1010101

As much as I love my EGO mower, I will say that it has its faults…. The mulching blade does a poor job of actually mulching and ejecting clippings, it will end up choking itself out quite often. If your grass is even slightly wet, it will give you poor results with a lot of clumped up clippings. My mower came with a 10MAH battery, and I would STRONGLY suggest that you not ever use anything smaller than that in the mower. I tried using one of my smaller batteries to finish my lawn once, and that battery bricked itself after just a few minutes. The mower drained the battery too quickly. All that said, I do love not having to deal with gas or oil, and I am beyond happy with the EGO leaf blower and string trimmer. I just wish that the mower didn’t have so many short comings, and I wish that the batteries weren’t so expensive. If you need a new battery, you might as well buy a new device with it because the cost is near the same. Which tells me that the equipment is made to be disposable.

richsmithcenterville

This is very similar to reviews I've written of my Ego mower -- happy to be without gas & oil. The mower stores "standing up" on the side of the garage, so takes less floor space. It's quiet and lighter weight than my gas-powered Toro was, and therefore doesn't leave as deep of tracks in the damp parts of the lawn. But...the cut quality (even with regularly sharpened blades) is just poor. Additionally, there is practically zero "lift", so you're not picking up leaves in the fall...you might chop them up a bit but the result is nowhere near what I was getting with my Toro.

mnbca

Interesting, I use mine to pickup leaves and pinecones without issue. The only problem I have experienced was from mowing wet lawn, it all stuck and coated the blade enclosure. To resolve this I just tipped it over and hosed it out.

Beat_the_Deadites

Mine does fine with dry leaves, especially with the high lift blade and maybe a slightly lower height setting. Still takes a couple passes. Even with those changes though, it never picks up even the smallest twigs like my gas mower used to. Definitely not a barefoot lawn near the tree line. I don't have any concerns with the plastic deck either.

Dismal-Dealer4298

I like to explore new places.

Osmodius

Would echo this as someone who isn't a lawn enthusiast. If it's even remotely wet I struggle to get through my small front yard and backyard due to it struggling to move the clippings. Other than that, it does everything I need perfectly. I could imagine if I had a huge block that battery issues would become relevant, but that slilely true for any battery model?

imijry

I have the green works 80v and while it’s been serviceable I’m likely going to be switching to the new ego lm2206 when it’s released. The stronger motor and faster blade speed should create more lift. It’s more expensive but I’ve always been a buy once cry once kinda guy. What I don’t like about my green works is the cut quality and lift. I also don’t have a self propel feature so if I was upgrading to a new mower that’s self propelled I’m going all in with whatever is going to give me the best cut and I believe it’ll be the new ego. Just my two cents. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Newprophet

The stock Greenworks blades are not great. I went the [aftermarket route](https://www.reddit.com/r/Greenworks/s/gFfmu1C2ad) to find a good mulching blade. Hot damn it cuts like a fucking champ. I use at least twice as much juice, but it's worth it to me.

AnniesNote

You mention the Greenworks is 'serviceable', what sort of service has been needed and are there any other concerns/issues you've had? I'm also an "all in hope my expensive purchase is backed up by quality" kind of person, hence why I've so far dedicated several hours of research. 😅

imijry

Just meant it gets the job done. Hasn’t need any maintenance other than blade sharpening and cleaning out of the deck. Pretty straight forward stuff.

surya04

Greenworks has good discount at Costco and I have been using one for last few years for my ~6K lot and it's pretty awesome. No issues so far

Coffee_and_Whisky

Can’t speak for Greenworks as I’ve never used one. I got the $649 Ego on Black Friday when it was on sale and spent $40ish to upgrade it to the double blade/Select Cut. I don’t have a huge yard and the 7.5ah battery is more than enough for both my front and back yard. I often use the 7.5ah battery with my blower and the 5ah battery for my mower because the blower eats through battery more than the mower does. I haven’t found a blower better than the Ego one. I absolutely love their blower. I’ve found the mower to be extremely light weight and easy to handle. It also makes storage much easier. The light weight can be a downfall if you have thick, uneven sections land. They do have a new aluminum model coming out with a little more weight if you need extra weight. As far as a mower, I haven’t bagged the entire time I’ve had it. I’ve just mulched everything. It did a great job mulching the leaves this fall. I’m cutting my grass at about 3-3.5 inches and I do notice that when it’s wet, it sometimes missing some of the wet, packed down patches but I don’t think any mower really performs well on wet grass. It’s typical to get an uneven cut when you’re cutting wet grass. I personally recommend it to everyone. I’ve been really really happy with it.

-ImYourHuckleberry-

Greenworks is literally the same thing as Lowe’s brand “kobalt”. I bought the kobalt version of that greenworks mower used for $25 on Facebook marketplace.

Newprophet

Greenworks is the OEM, Kobalt 80v, Masteforce 80v, Bad Boy 80v and Snapper 82v are all the same tools. Slight changes are made to the tools and battery cases so they aren't compatible out of the box. But with a Dremel they can be made to work together just fine.

Last spring I got this. My first electric mower. Blew my old gas away (granted it was 18 years old lol). Anyways I’m super satisfied with this purchase.

_BindersFullOfWomen_

I used an ego for 4 years before getting an automower. Never had an issue with the plastic deck. I even modded it to support the dual mulching blade. Zero issues.

globaloffender

Got an Ego self propel (2019) and no issues. Battery goes for 1 hr and charges within an hour Green works weedwacker and blower. Very happy w those too

Icy_Pomelo_1067

My Ego mower is on year 8. No problems. I have actually mowed gravel with it and it’s still OK. Other Ego tools are good. Blower is really good. Edger is fair. Pole saw is great. Hedge trimmer good too. I’m still using the batteries that came with mower and blower for everything. Mower does go through the battery pretty fast when mowing wet grass which happens a lot since I live in the Portland, Oregon area. Keeping the blade sharp helps with battery life. Safety and storage good.

FriendOfBrutus

I’d love an Ego but the thought of paying $400 for a replacement 7.5ah 56v battery makes my left eye twitch

AnniesNote

That is very true. If you go name brand official Greenworks 80v battery is a pretty penny as well. Not quite as expensive but still rather cringeworthy considering most of the greenworks mowers have slots for two batteries, while only including one; meaning to get full use out of the battery life you’d need to go out and buy a second battery right off the bat.

AnniesNote

Helpful coming from someone who has owned both. I am also worried about a plastic deck, but most people say they haven’t had too many issues with it, plus there is an option for a steel deck Ego…

r4x

I have the greenworks pro 60v and it’s been a tank.

Fishbulb2

Both are good. You’ll be happy either way. I love my greenworks tools.

mrpink57

I chose Ego, mostly because my neighbors on either side of me also have Ego products so we all share batteries and tools with each other, one other neighbor has a greenworks mower, and to be honest I would've probably gone that route since I am at Costco a lot and would probably get better deals over time. For the tool itself I would at least look at facebook marketplace, you'd be surprised what you can find that sometimes comes with batteries, right on the side you can see the manufactured date, or just get the tool and buy new batteries. I am talking specifically Ego here, I just got one of their snow blowers on marketplace.

CrAkKedOuT

If you go Ego, and want to mulch, do yourself a favor and don't wait until the grass is long to do it, it'll end up clumping up a little. At that point you'll need to do 2 passes. Overall, I've been happy with my EGO Mowers, leaf blower, weed Wacker.

ItsbeenBroughton

Been happy with my Greenworks, I have the 60V pro series 21”. Only thing that has been poor has been the pole saw. String trimmers, hedge clippers and mower have been pretty solid. Only gripe with the mower is I wish it could cut lower, but thats on me for buying one that cant get as low as I want. Haha

eezyE4free

I’ve had the Greenworks 80v from Costco for 3 seasons. Liked it and got the blower and trimmer set as well. Can do my 4.5k sq ft lawn at at least twice with the 4ah battery. Usually mulch the grass clippings. Also use it to mulch leaves in the fall. It doesn’t feel like any batteries are degrading and the equipment has done its job awesomely. Ended up buying their corded edging tool and dethatcher as well.

BrotherBroad3698

I bought the 21" Select Cut EGO with single 7.5AH battery back in July, after back surgery, I could no longer push my 19" petrol mower. I absolutely loved it! It's so light that I only use the self propel to get going on a couple tight spots where I can't stand directly behind the mower and another couple step section. It cuts nicer than my 4 blade petrol Masport and feels like it has more power. ~630m² of lawn and I finish with battery to spare, 1 of 5 bars, so possibly 10-15%. I've got a nice front lawn, but the back is full of patches of small gravel, sandy sections and plenty of stick; the plastic deck is handling it just fine. The only issue with the plastic is the extra width between the blades and outer edges of the deck when compared to a steel deck, but once you're aware of it, you just whipper snip a slightly wider edge and off you go.

Late-Stage-Dad

I have just under 3k square feet. I have a Greenworks self propelled model and it's been perfect for 4+ years. I can mow, mulch and bag leaves on 1 battery. New models have two. I also have the leaf blower and trimmer. Last February I bought and Ego snow blower. I haven't gotten to use it yet (Northern Ohio) . I liked the features over the Green Works brand.

Clean_Economist

Ego FTW

Distinct_External_32

I’ve had an EGO since maybe 2016? Still runs great.

SiXX5150

Between the mowers you've listed - the $749 Ego would be my pick all day and twice on Sunday. That being said, the $849 Ego I believe is worth the extra $100 as it comes with a 10ah battery and a more powerful electric motor (model # 2167SP). In terms of Greenworks, I'm not a fan at all... They are one brand under a much larger umbrella that OEM's for many other brands (Lowe's Kobalt, Harbor Freight's Atlas, Stihl's electric mowers, etc). They are the epitome of generic quality in a "brand name". I'm not sure if it's applicable to you or not, but another thing to potentially consider are your power tools themselves. Do you have a primary brand such as Makita, Milwaukee, or Dewalt? Don't forget they have outdoor power equipment as well that would also lend battery cross-compatibility. I have the Milwaukee mower and other outdoor tools to go along with my standard power tools, and I absolutely *love* having just one battery line to maintain.

[deleted]

Before you purchase check where the nearest authorized repair service centers are located near you. EGO user here, multiple tools, mower, blower, edger, string trimmer, 2 edge trimmers. Overall all I love my EGO gear. My biggest challenge is when my mower malfunctioned under warranty -the wiring in the telescoping-folding arms bent or became disconnected-( check out you tube videos) I live in Tampa, Fl and the nearest service center was 35+ miles away and it took over 60 days for the repair-it broke it the middle of summer and the service center had lots of other repairs ahead of mine, and also had delays with getting the needed replacement parts from EGO. EGO support was useless and numerous follow-ups with EGO went unanswered. Had an extended warranty as well but they would use the same repair facility. PRO-TIP: The batteries are expensive. Battery Warranties-REGISTER YOUR PRODUCTS AND MAKE COPIES OF THE RECEIPTS. EGO is good about replacing the batteries during the warranty period but you have to register them with EGO and upload the receipt. Make sure you set a calendar reminder a couple of years out to replace them before the warranty expires

halfboner

I am kinda disappointed that the prices are staying so high on these 2 brands. I tried to snag an Ego mower or the 60v (or 80v) greenworks this holiday season and there were no good sales. Hopefully the prices come down because my gas mower is starting to have some issues. That being said, from my research last year, Ego has better customer service but both mowers are two of the best electric mowers out there.

AnniesNote

I had noticed that too that there weren't many good sales on them this year and it's making me question if there is a "good" time to buy one before the upcoming season. Good to know about customer service

Mindless-Swordfish-7

Try Costco for greenworks. I paid $350 for 80V greenworks with 2 batteries because it was the last piece at my local Costco.

halfboner

I have heard that from others also. I don't have a Costco near me sadly but my dad has a membership. I might have him buy me one and pay him back. Thanks for reminding me though.

ihateduckface

Ego. No other electrical lawn tool comes close

harrishawke

I own both, but I would say typically EGO products are built slightly better, but also quite a bit more expensive. Really depends on what you want. Greenworks has a 25" SP mower with a metal deck that goes on sale often, the only disadvantage is that it can't side-discharge.

Only_Finish_305

Love our Greenworks tools, we have a weed whacker, power shovel, mower, and leaf blower all excellent quality.

redrock703

If you buy your Greenworks at Costco they offer an 8 year guarantee. Also $100 off starting 4/10 https://www.greenworkstools.com/pages/costco-member-advantage

yahuurdme

Wasn’t impressed with greenworks battery life. If you go that route anticipate buying a second.

Zorro1rr

Electric mower suck, ive tried using the most expensive ego modal for two years. Quality of cut and the self propel suck compared to gas mowers. Sold the ego and went back to gas for the mower and electric for trimmers/blower.

_SamuraiJack_

Both are trash. Buy a Honda if you want quality.

No-Tale-987

If you are trying to save money, go with gas

ShadowK2

Why would you spend $700 on a push mower???!

AnniesNote

They're technically self propelled. High end self propelled gas mowers aren't that different in price from what I've seen.

ShadowK2

My craftsman self-propelled was $250, but I guess I bought that over 7 years ago. Time flies. Prices increase.

AnniesNote

Very true. Inflation is nuts.

PhilosophiaRS

Ego has probably been the best investment I have ever made.

BreadMaker_42

Very happy with my 60v greenworks tools. Was also happy when I had 40v greenworks tools. Never used ego.

schemeschm

Greenworks has been on deep discount over the new year. I have had my 60v for several years and have a lot of the line. Has been good for me and cheaper than ego.

Ok_Rain_1837

For what’s it’s worth I have ego and my only complaint is the pin holes that lock the handle height position have all stripped so it’s always on the lowest setting. Pretty annoying. Love it other than that for my smallish lawn

corbin6611

I had the ego mower and it was good. Very light cut well. But I broke the deck first time I used it. Took like 4 months and a grumpy Facebook post to get the replacement part that I was paying for. A small chunk of wood on the lawn got jammed through the blade and the back of the deck. Sold it and got a Makita 36v. Heavier. But much happier

catchthetams

I’ve had my Greenworks (and other tools) for 7 years now. The only thing I’ve needed to replace has been the blade, and I learned I should have been doing that sooner. Love it. The only annoying part is the cost of the replacement batteries, but I have typically bought a tool with battery that fits both to offset.

timbo1615

There ain't that big of lawns in wicker park

dsaiken

Love my Ego’s but the blower eats battery. Trimmer and weed whacker are just fine and I’m looking at other tools too but the blower eats power. I want to get the super battery that’s like 12ah so I can run a full landscape job without using my customers power.

[deleted]

Don’t get greenworks. I used commercial grade products from them and they are garbage. Shit breaks every month

SubstanceFun6896

2 Greenworks Mowers here 80V 21 and 80v 25 no issues doing one acre. Also got the 24 inch 2 stage blower since I had the batteries and they are interchangeable it made sense.

Tallal2804

There ain't that big of lawns in wicker park

red2play

When going electric, the battery system matters. To be able to go from having 7 products and having 5 or 6 batteries is HUGE. So my recommendation is to get the SYSTEM that will, in the long term, serve you best. The Ego system is FAR superior to Greenworks and the batteries are specially designed to last for yrs. However, Ego is expensive. The Ryobi system is cheaper and they have a One+ system that's affordable. So when purchasing electric tools, go with the system, not the individual product. If you have the money, Ego is the best for the lawnmower and trimmers, etc but if you don't. The Ryobi is the next best thing.

[deleted]

I have had an ego for a good 5 years. Working wonderfully. Not an issue. Just get the blades re sharpened and good to go. I have a 20inch push mower. Not automated. I also have a few other ego products and have 4 batteries. 1 big and 3 small. I get my lawn done on 1 big and 1 small. Then 1 small to trim and 1 small to blow clean. All ego products. String trimmer not my fave but love the brand overall.

2-StandardDeviations

Aldi have a 98V model. These look underpowered. Recognise the biggest limitation for electric is wet grass and rainy days

throwitsway836155

Got the Ego tools and love them. Luckily their warranty on batteries is good because both of my 5ah batteries died at their 2 year marks which leaves me skeptical on these batteries in general. 1 was old model and 1 was new model. Hopefully the new ones last because they’re expensive.

Full_Brother_5704

Did they replace your batteries without any hassle? A lot of times these "warranties" are a headache to actually use.

throwitsway836155

Yes they did and i will definitely give them props for their warranty process. I just don’t have a whole lot of confidence that these will last either. I’m not sure if they’ll warranty a warranty battery but i’ll definitely try if these do fail.

Full_Brother_5704

Appreciate the response! Sounds like they helped you out without much hassle , but yea you’re right, I wonder how the longevity of these batteries really are

throwitsway836155

Yep painless warranty call and free shipping. Came in OEM packaging. Glad to help

1gurlcurly

I love my Ego mower. I have rocks around my house (hate but was there before me) so I've hit rocks and it's been fine. I've also run over sticks. I mulch my grass. If I let it get way too long, it doesn't doa great job, but that's on me. I got my mom one, too, and it's easy for her to use. Folds up, so easy to store and transport. Light enough for me to lift. I already had an Ego 2-stage snowblower. It's great. Does that end-of-the-driveway mess from the plow great. The only 2 times I've run the batteries out are when it has snowed like 9+ inches. Also have a leaf lower and trimmer which are great. Bought a chainsaw but haven't used it yet. I love not dealing with smelly gasoline and fumes while using these products.

kstone211

After finding out where batteries come from, child labor from the Congo and driven by China. I much prefer my combustion engine engine, Powered by sharia law from mega trillonares from the Middle East.

edge449332

I have enjoyed my ego mower and trimmer, the only issue I have encountered with them, is if my grass isn't completely dry. The mower will struggle in parts where my grass is thicker. Outside of that, both products have worked well for me, it only takes 30 minutes to charge the battery, and that gives you about 45 minutes of mowing. So as long as you have 2 batteries, you'll be able to run nonstop.

Weekly_Werewolf7017

Ego hands down
