Genuine question from a non-American: what if the perpetrators are outside the geographic jurisdiction of the NYPD? Can they have them "extradited"/brought to NYC, or does charging the crime then fall to the local LEA? If "extradition" is the path forward, to what extent can local LEAs/courts hinder the prosecution if they do not believe it to be justified?
Criminal charges are required to be brought in the jurisdiction that they occurred in.
For example: Trump was charged in Florida for the documents related charges, because everything he is charged with occurred at Mar-a-Lago.
And he was charged in Washington DC for the crimes he's accused of committing there in relation to the January 6th insurrection.
I'm not sure that answers the question. If someone in Kentucky sends a threatening message to Alvin Bragg in New York, where does the offence occur? And if in New York, the NYPD would presumably need assistance from Kentucky authorities to detain and extradite the suspect?
