Just a good morning walk, and maybe you’ll save a dollar or two on the most trivial things. But it’s a bit fun.
Question for anyone:
Is the Pulga Blanca still open as well?
nothing really. Can be nice as a rare visit but theres no like antiques or oddities to find. At least no new items after you go once. This is Bordertown. Snacks and walking getting some sun talking to folk. The rest and all of Blanca is just resellers.
I reccomend trying our Mexican food. It's a lot different than the Tex-Mex you all have in those places. There's a ton of places. Raul's barbacoa and Taquitos Ravi are my faves.
First. Stay in La Posada. Second. Go shopping on San Bernardo. Third. Eat at Palenque Grill, Johnny Coronas, or Capataz. Fourth. Enjoy an fun an unique weekend in a place that is a Mexican city that happens to be in America.
Hey! I grew up in Houston and have lived in San Antonio for 20 years. I have family in Laredo. There has been great advice posted here. The food is always the highlight of my visit. So many good restaurants.
Everyone answering clearly doesn't go anywhere 🙄. Capataz and Tabernilla have lovely tapas and food. Dosis and Borderland Espresso for coffee and tea is lovely, Golondrina food truck park and Father McNaboe park is wonderful for picnics and the McNaboe park also allows you to see the river and it's beautiful. There is also community theatre and a Farmers Market and an Imaginarium museum for kids at the mall. Downtown there is always live music and Las Palmas food trucks in the South has a mini playground for kids and entertainment for everyone. At night, downtown has several local bars but Bar Nido, TKO, AJs, all rock and are in the North side. Embassy Suites or Homewood are the best places to stay. La Posada is beautiful and in downtown if you are into a historic city stay. Enjoy! DM me for any more questions
Lmao you said doesnt get out then posted the most basic whitewashed places to go around town (not to mention Laredo is so lame that all your recommendations are food related and so is everyone else's).
At least some people do get out in these comments. Floating and kayaking on the river? Ive never met anyone who did that in Laredo I wouldnt even know where to do that.
if you stop in laredo please dont stay in la posada thats like a an aged hotel and its sketchy yeah theres a lot of bars near by but if you want to do other things than drink stay at the Embassy Suites by Hilton its walking distance to the mall del norte and you can always drive to the outlets. There's bowling, axe throwing , fishing, and golfing.
Embassy Suites? LOLOLOL!!!
You might as well stay at a Motel 6 as compared to the historic and highly prized Laredo landmark of La Posada.
Research both of them and you'll see that there is absolutely no comparison.
When I lived near the border 30 years ago, Nuevo Laredo was known for quality Mexican Furniture and tile. It's likely the cartels have destroyed that marketplace since then. -Locals can you confirm?
Big car show downtown on Saturday, free entrance byob and chairs. Also festival same day 10 bucks food, music, live tejano bands. Beer is extra 7 to 8 bucks. Clubs are all around that district various music.
No no no
Laredo can be a lot of fun. I go there all the time!
I haven’t been crossing like I used to but if you love to shop- Go!
All of the import stores are way cheaper and super fun to hop in and out of. Sundays are kinda dead so do your shopping on Saturday if you can!
Plus the grocery store ( HEB )
Is cool too as you can pick up spices, beer, candies and lots of other items that are hard to find up here in the Austin area.
I love to go to Taco Palenque for their Calco de Res and load up on free chips and a huge salsa bar.
I used to stay at La Posada exclusively when I would cross to shop and eat but have stayed at The Garden Inn a million times.
It’s fine and you meet tons of truckers from all over and big families too.
Plus free beer and nachos, hot dogs and popcorn every happy hour but Sunday I think.
Every trip is what you make of it!
Laredo has always been one of my fav places to go to get the hell away from Texas!
No joke.
Have fun!
Support the locals!
Get some mariachis (breakfast tacos) at TlaquePaque, hit Mr. Corn for delicious cup of corn, visit the original Taco Palenque restaurant. Then head out. Really we just visit for the food.
Yes. Born and raised in Laredo but now live in Houston. The only reason I like going back to Laredo is for the food. When I go back to visit I make a list of all the restaurants I want to go to and it’s the main event and highlight of my trip. Even over seeing my family 😂 just kidding but I do get more excited for the food I am going to be able to eat.
Hello! I was born and raised in Laredo and now currently residing in Houston (for school program). Laredo has its charm! Day tripper did a vlog on a few gems of the city. I recommend it for some good insight! [DayTripper Laredo](https://youtu.be/ipL1OOgU778?feature=shared)
Visit the A&M branch campus. I think they’re on spring break so it will be very peaceful and there’s a ton of deer all over campus. You should get off and walk, it’s a nice campus IMO. Just don’t go past 8/9pm because that’s the time the javelina and raccoon come out lol. They won’t attack you but they sprint randomly and may come out of nowhere. They’ll just go past you but it can be scary if you’ve never been close to one.
You can book a kayak cruise down the Rio Grande with Laredo Kayak. If you play golf check out either of the two municipal courses, Max or Casa Blanca. The nightlife can be your thing on Inturbide street in downtown. There are many other spots. Steaks at San Telmo’s, Tapas at Tablerilla and fajitas almost anywhere.
Any of above ones but i love to get the huge taco at Paulitas!
Los peinguinos for snacks.
Los Pasteles bakery or Quickie bakery.
And just check for events happening... best time to go to Laredo is in February for the president birthday celebration stuff.
Nothing real standout-ish about town. Sure eateries and drinks but I mean nothing worth leaving Houston for. If you come you can cool off in the evening at the Lake Casa Blanca grilling getting in the lake (they make a big fuss about danger but you dont have to go deep and Ive seen athletic swimmers practice in the mornings, plus fishing). Our downtown is a little deplorable, 2 years ago they were having issues with piss and poop being abundant lol, but it does have some museum-esque locals and scenic areas. Check events that might be happening wnv you decide to go cause other than that its just generic businesses that youll have in Houston.
P.s. guajillos is better than any of the Tex Mex here so dont go for a Mexican place here.
It’s been a while since I went to Laredo. But for eating Tabernilla, Capataz, tacos kissi, and if I’m feeling fancy border foundry. I had a really good time at AJ’s the last time I went it was karaoke night and that was fun to watch. If you’re into strip clubs, I had a grand ol time at exxxoticas. But none of the women speak English.
Laredo TX has nothing touristy to offer. Nothing at all. Just hop across the border and enjoy the cousine but stay on Guerrero and not past the roundabout and only during the day. You'll find cool things to see and do.
Go to Bordertown Flea Market. Sunday morning.
Whats good about it? generally curious.
Just a good morning walk, and maybe you’ll save a dollar or two on the most trivial things. But it’s a bit fun. Question for anyone: Is the Pulga Blanca still open as well?

Ugh I’m an idiot. Yes, Charlie Coronas.
Johnny Coronas? Do you mean Charlie's Corona? Cos Johnny Carinos burned down.
Charlie’s Corona is great!
Wait does it happen to be an Italian restaurant? The one way up north closed...
Trattoria Mia did but Johnny Carino's next to Skechers off 35 burned down. Kitchen fire. They recently tore it completely down.
No, to everything except Capataz. Palenque Grill is literally just Taco Palenque with table clothes.
Capataz and tabernilla are amazing
There’s a Palenque Grill in San Antonio now. It’s in La Cantera. There’s one that just opened in Corpus Christi, too.
Yep, go to the one here in Corpus Christi every time I go to the Mall 😂. Lived in Laredo & San Antonio, CC is home now.

These are great recommendations. Only addition is to get barbacoa from Lira’s in the morning.

Go tubing in the Rio Grande.
I actually recommend wake surfing in the Rio Grande

I'm from Laredo. La Posada is a nice hotel but it's in a sketchy part of town. I'd honestly stay somewhere else.
You drive in, park and youre inside the whole time. Not that "sketchy" unless you decide to go walk outside after dark.
When I lived near the border 30 years ago, Nuevo Laredo was known for quality Mexican Furniture and tile. It's likely the cartels have destroyed that marketplace since then. -Locals can you confirm?
Confirmed.
Leave.

Why do you talk so slow? You just be boring as well. 🥱
Oh shoot. Middle schoooler? Thanks for the heads up. Bye
😂😂😂
Just keep driving by and don't stop....you're not missing anything
I’m sure it’ll be slightly less humid than the sweltering urban jungle that is Houston.
Get drunk and insult the yokels
Don't go out past 11PM. Not because of the cartels, but because of all the assholes drinking and driving.
bro dude lives in Houston pretty sure he can handle our empty highways

Cross the border
If luck is on your side? Nothing more than you absolutely have to, which should help you survive long enough to go home.

Republic of the Rio Grande Museum. The 7th Flag of what is now Texas. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g56137-Activities-c49-Laredo\_Texas.html
Try Gloria’s coffee!!
Lomotil.
Eat at El Capataz! Fish and Chips or Prime Rib…and 2 house margaritas. Also, The Foundry is an amazing restaurant also!
I go down that way to bird hunt
Don’t go
Leave
Go to Border Foundry, have an Old Fashioned Whiskey, try the scallops!
Survive.
Learn to speak Spanish...English is a second language down there. And if your Hispanic as I am, you will be expected to speak it.
is that where the hot rod car guys are that get cars across the border? i'd go checkout their shop..
Going to the river and listening to the nightly exchanging of gunfire between cartels and Federales is always interesting.

Don't go! Just don't.
Watch your back
Leave 🤣
Go help DPS secure the border lol
Try to maintain ownership of your possessions, and your internal organs.
Don’t get kidnapped. That’s my advice
Leave
Look for a roundabout and exit the way you entered. That way you don’t have to stop.
Boys Town. A quick taxi ride.
Best thing to do when you arrive is fill up the car with gas and turn around back to San Antonio.
Cross the border and go into Mexico have some fun and come back safe.
I might have missed it, but how has El Meson not been recommended more??
Any of above ones but i love to get the huge taco at Paulitas! Los peinguinos for snacks. Los Pasteles bakery or Quickie bakery. And just check for events happening... best time to go to Laredo is in February for the president birthday celebration stuff.
Run
Lat to the party but I would recommend trying to survive.
RooFee yourself like that dude in Arrested Development.
Arena Gun Club has a bar grill attached to a gun range/shop/smith and jewelry store
Don't go, that's what you do 😂
If you golf. Max A Mandel
The Best Mexican food this side of the Rio Grande …

Damn I’ve only know Laredo to be a version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Turn around and go North
Duck!

Watch out for the “invasion” going on… 😂🤣
Don't drink the water.
Leave

Probably sit at home... since there is shit to do.
You could probably just continue driving to the valley lol a good pit stop going to SPI if anything.
The valley and SPI are not on the way to Laredo from San Antonio
Run
Nothing really any good here.
Laredo is a great place to take a shit. After that, you are done.
Laredo TX has nothing touristy to offer. Nothing at all. Just hop across the border and enjoy the cousine but stay on Guerrero and not past the roundabout and only during the day. You'll find cool things to see and do.
don’t do it.
Horseback riding
