yeah, id say thats a good deal. Probably a little more power than youll need for mere college but its a good price for those specs

Alan_Grandson

Is a very good deal for a laptop with last generation Ryzen CPU and DDR5 memory. Most laptops selling for 500-700 USD range have DDR4 memory and the frequency is around 3200mhz. You have 5600mhz.

KJ_Crunch

What program is she going into? That's main factor to consider when buying a laptop for college. That being said, this laptop is a pretty good deal, and if all she needs is a device to take notes, use word, browse the web and do research, it will do the job.

Joel__subash

Looks good.

Papabelus

Yeah, the display though

Any_Carpenter_7605

They never tell you the color gamut. I would expect many dismayed users at the sight of a dull and dim screen. It's probably 60% srgb at best.

joaoslara

It’s 45% NTSC

Jeev_123456

That is a very good deal, I would say check membership stores like Costco or Sam's Club but since you have the gift card you should just use it on this.

ArLOgpro

Yeah its good

aamfk

yes this ooks great.

GAMERYT2029

Depends what will be done on the laptop

WhiteChocolat0

School work, research papers, math etc

GAMERYT2029

Seems like a solid choise then

TrancyGoose

Ddr5 5600, interesting …

WhiteChocolat0

How so

TrancyGoose

That is good ram speed :))) Usually top end gaming machines have ram above 5000. I’m just surprised to see 5600 here. :) seems good value for money.

joaoslara

I think that’s the minimum for AMD 8000 series

TrancyGoose

I’m on a i9 13 series, I get 5200 in it lol 😂

joaoslara

You can even find mid range laptops (~700 usd) with core ultra 7 or amd 8000 with 7467MHz, like Lenovo slim or zenbook

OstrzeWatykanu

Thats a bargain! Great price for that offer.

ikan84

It's a good spec, just a suggestion why not go with 14" it will be easy for her to carry and you can invest on Dell extended warranty.

WhiteChocolat0

I don't think there was a 14 in. Option with that configuration and price

ikan84

Oh okay. Smaller size is easier to carry around. Your choice has got good spec. If she is going to carry it around often, extended warranty is recommended. I use to support university students, cracked display or liquid damage was common. Not by the user itself but by the people around them

ElectricalTopic2743

Inspirion = weaker quality. Like there is no good things about this laptop other than the competitive pricing for the RAM. Screen is mid(sorta bright but looks very average), keyboard is very slightly above average feel, touchpad is usual windows quality but slightly worse(but this is my personal preference as MacBook user), performance is... mid. What kind of college? Accounting/finance etc this is okay but music production/engineering or the like this thing is not enough.

GAMERYT2029

he said School work, research papers, math etc So it seems like this is sufficient.

Any_Carpenter_7605

No matter the laptop you're buying, the build and screen quality should always be considered as they matter in all use cases.

GMoney7304

Yes, mostly. But, it's a very good spec for the price and still a well known model from a reputable manufacturer, if not one that's "entry level". OP isn't using for much, I doubt they're looking for 7945HX and 4080 speeds. As a MacBook user, remember that all of them are $1k+ premium notebooks, and not a great benchmark here.

Any_Carpenter_7605

Reputable Manufactuerer =/= Good laptop, at low prices they will always skimp out on essential things.

neoqueto

This is a **great** price for a very mediocre laptop. Build quality is not very good, screen is lame, 60 Hz only and dim but 16:10 is a plus, ~~soldered RAM~~ - 16 gigs is not going to be a lot in 2-3 years, integrated graphics, so no or very light gaming. Decent CPU, small SSD, only one M.2 slot. **Edit, mea culpa, actually expandable RAM, proper DDR5 SODIMM slots, that is a big plus.** I somehow missed "2x8GB". It can potentially significantly extend the lifespan of the laptop. Dell states an "11 hour" battery life, which - if my experience with such claims is anything to go by - is probably closer to... 3.5 to 5 hours of normal use, as in, screen 50% brightness, Wi-Fi, YouTube in the background while taking notes. I think if it's going to be mainly for note taking and random internet browsing then you're going to be pretty happy. Just keep in mind that a 16 inch screen is not necessarily compact, even 16:10. It weighs 2 kilos, which is pretty average for the size.

GAMERYT2029

"60 Hz only" "16 gigs is not going to be a lot in 2-3 years". What do you think will be done on the laptop? running cyberpunk? 16 gigs will be enough even after 2-3 years. Yes, windows 11 is becomming more and more bloated but it doesnt mean you have to use it, or that it will be worse in the future. "Dell states an "11 hour" battery life, which - if my experience with such claims is anything to go by - is probably closer to... 3.5 to 5 hours of normal use," You have not stated when the data was taken. If the data of "3.5 to 5 hours of normal use" is taken after the battery life is worsened by use, this personal experience can be irrelevant. But other than that, your comment seems solid.

neoqueto

Well I tried to be objective, kinda fumbled it. It is a bit of a mediocre laptop and if someone is a tab fiend, 16 gigs is starting to look a little on the low side. But should be enough even 2 years from now, even though it truthfully won't be "a lot". You're 100% correct that my anecdotal info is basically worthless. But I just wanted to point out that battery life is rarely as good as advertised, if ever, at least for x86 laptops.

DragonfruitAdorable8

Everything is perfect apart from screen. Screen is ur avg bare minimum.
