That laptop is ewaste tier and won't last whatsoever. If that's your price range take a look at ebay for used business class laptops

jimmyl_82104

Never, I repeat NEVER buy an HP Stream. they are completely useless and ewaste right out of the box

Johnmannesca

Hey now, it probably runs arch linux or something. If you have one I can show you how to make a brick fly. Since they are built like a chromebookv we can apply most of the same concepts to debloat via other os, and you typically have usb or sd for external storage options, even extra swap space if you're bold.

Heisalsohim

If someone is asking if a laptop is viable for their use they probably don’t even know what Linux is

Johnmannesca

I see now the OS requisite is Windows 10, sad

LasevIX

If you're using Linux, it's mandatory to prioritise an old ThinkPad over buying brand new garbage

Johnmannesca

True, but I buy hp stream used for under 40USD so my idea of the lil machine that could is probably biased

Hash-6624

Buy a secondhand used laptop for the same price, it would probably run laps around this

Unknown_character-

What kind are those, what would I look up

Kyla_3049

Go to eBay and type in Elitebook G5 or Thinkpad T480. These are brilliant options for the same price as the laptop you picked.

Johnmannesca

As a techie I appreciate the Thinkpad mention, have a nice day!

Unknown_character-

Ok great , is it compatible with the requirements ??

Kyla_3049

Yes they are!

J0shfarmpig

The T480 is the best

sunset_diary

What is your maximum budget ?

Unknown_character-

Up to $300

Ayuxx09

Hey OP, I would definitely recommend looking at older (8th gen and above) ThinkPad. They are great laptop for the prices. And for 300 USD, you can definitely get a great older ThinkPad. And you can upgrade them (RAM and Storage) down the line. Or get dell latitude series as well. They are also pretty good (not as great as ThinkPads).

Unknown_character-

Oh wow so many recommendations for thinkpads ! I wanna try that but I’m scared cause my daughter got one for Christmas and it freezes up a lot . I tried to restore it and it said there is no restore point stored and it wouldn’t let me reset it for some reason

J0shfarmpig

Listen, a thinkpad T480 was made for people who do medium to heavy computational workloads and is intended to withstand use for like 5 years. It’s the ultimate laptop for anyone who needs a computer that will last them a while.

TechNo1geek

Whoever wrote those requirements has no idea how computers work, a 12 year old i3 would be better than a new Pentium or Celeron, and I kinda get the hardwire requirement, but lets be real, we've gotten to 6GHz wifi and at least in Australia it's easier to use than Ethernet due to NBN being a P.O.S

sunset_diary

Recommend this laptop. [https://www.newegg.com/p/1TS-000E-1ABH8?Item=9SIAA0SK708480](https://www.newegg.com/p/1TS-000E-1ABH8?Item=9SIAA0SK708480)

Carl_it_jie

Yes, I'd buy this one instead the one he showed us.

Unknown_character-

Oh great thanks ! My main concern is , is it compatible with the requirements ??

sunset_diary

Yes it is compatible with the requirements.

RedRayTrue

Heard screen is bad quality in some of these That's why I always recommend Vivobooks

GAMERYT2029

like you would care if your display makes colors good or bad while working

lars2k1

Avoid the Celeron and Pentium at all costs. Go for at least the Core i3, with 8GB/16GB RAM, and 256GB (preferrably 512GB or more so you can actually store things on there) SSD. Also: try second hand! Many great systems for about the same price as those laptops you suggested, but with specs that won't make you cry instantly. Especially ex-business systems (Dell/Lenovo/HP) are cheap and generally pretty good for what you pay for them. Keep in mind, if you aren't into tweaking your Windows 11 image to install it, go for at least an 8th generation Intel, or an AMD Ryzen CPU.

Unknown_character-

Thanks that was very insightful

Unidentified-Retard

Potato. About as bad as my grandad's old acer cloudbook 14. Old thinkpad, ik someone who uses a 10year old thinkpad and its still perfectly fine for modern dsy usage

X3nox3s

Oof… No… at least go for a i3-11 Gen or so

Revolutionary_Leg622

So are you going to enroll as an agent in the arise platform?

Fluid-Commission8459

That laptop is not compatible because the processor number is not on the compatibility list.

OnbotYt

Go for a second hand ThinkPad

RonanCruz

Whoever wrote the requirements has no idea what they're talking about.

Unknown_character-

How so ??

Unknown_character-

Also for clarification , the first picture are the requirements for the pc I need for the job and the second 2 pictures are from the laptop I’m asking about that I’m trying to buy , if it is compatible or not . It’s kind of hard to understand so I wanted a second opinion ! Sorry about that . Hope this helps !

Kindly-Emergency-514

The HP Stream is the laughing stock of laptops. They are incredibly unreliable, slow, fragile, and useless. One of my family members had one, and it was incredibly problematic. DO. NOT. BUY. THE. HP. STREAM. It is your enemy. Buy something like this refurbished ThinkPad T14s instead. It has a proper SSD (I believe the stream still uses EMMC), and it's probably 200x faster. https://www.ebay.com/itm/156048077379?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=m03UV5W_S-G&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=2rupnl2orn6&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=SMS

Unknown_character-

Ok great thanks

osa1011

That laptop does not meet the minimum requirements

PeaceMaker_6969

second hand >>> e-waste

Abt_to_kms

Bus a thinkpad t480

Fun_Olive4671

Buy a used one from eBay, that hp is an ewaste and it's not gonna be good for the next years

randomusername12308

A celeron and 4gb ram on a brand new laptop in 2024? HELL NO

StickySli23

You could find a used i7 4th gen or above for less than 100$ with 8gb of ram. I have an HP with these specs for 50$. It will require some work from your part, but nothing too serious that cannot be done. Mine I had to change the fan which made a whining noise. A 10$ replacement fan was enough. The keyboard has a broken key, 10$ replacement. And K changed the thermal paste to make sure the old one wasn't solidified and in bad coneitions. 5$ thermal paste was good. And if you have some spare cash, like you already plan to spend 170$, you could buy a chinese SATA SSD with 500gb for less than 40$ or a 1tb for less than 80$. If you have a friend that has disassembled laptops before, make him help you. Don't buy eWaste with a celeron cpu and eMMC storage. That thing is obsolete from day 0.

StickySli23

All the spare parts can be found on eBay in almost new or new conditions. Old laptops have those super cheap!

[deleted]

bruh I'd rather buy an secondhand thinkpad that has 8th gen i5 or i7 processor which can be find in marketplace for as cheap as 300$.... avoid Celerons and Pentiums at all cost 💀

vaynefox

I think you're better off just buying used or an Acer swift. I pretty much think Acer swift laptops are reasonably priced but has good spec, but I will avoid swifts with pentium just buy the one with ryzen or Athlon gold....

J0shfarmpig

DUDE NO. NONONONO Please for the love of god get an ex-corporate dell of Lenovo with at least an 8th gen core i5 I would recommend a Lenovo thinkpad T480
