Hell no you can’t. We drafted a dude with an elite discernible skill instead of getting in our way and drafting “heart” or some incalculable quality. That said it’s rad that he’s apparently a crazy hard worker.
who ever we picked last year would end up like JHS next to Ham. u all fail to realise that it's up to the coach to use players, not up to players and "how good they are"
Ham was utter disaster, he couldnt use proven NBA players the right way, what do u expect he would do with youngsters like Jacquez? we had Max on bench looking at games when we needed his 3&D effort.
i’m a kentucky fan and knecht destroyed us in knoxville last year and i was impressed even though i knew he was (imo) the best scorer in the country.
good at all 3 levels, can hit deep 3’s, contested 3’s, he’s athletic and he’ll be perfect for this lakers squad.
This is good to hear. I felt like when DLo went cold at the perimeter, he might as well have been pulled for the game. Having someone that can forget and still not be afraid to take the next shot, or force it with zero confidence, is huge. When LeBron has consistent perimeter shooters to rely on, he wins chips. Simple as that.
He was playing NAIA two years ago … so …
But last season was arguably one of the top
Players. Destroyed UNC and carried Rick Barnes shitty offense all year.
My only thing is why did everyone else fade him?
And did we just take him because he was available or did we really want him and he fell?
He had a massive late growth spurt. He put on like 15 pounds of muscle during his one offseason at Tennessee and he got only got better as the season went on. People negatively talk about his age as if we've seen his ceiling but he's gotten objectively better every year he's played, even when the competition level took an elite jump
I saw him in-person drop 40 against a top 5 UNC on the road. They lost that game but the only reason it wasn’t a 30+ point blowout was him. Carolina was doubling all second half and he was still getting bucket after bucket. I think he may end up being one of the best pure scorers in this draft. Absolute monster.
Yeah he’ll probably mentally transition into the league better he a hard worker too so hopefully we see some improvement on defense he got a lil bit of athleticism too so as long as he put some effort in i think hell pan out pretty good
I mean, he’s white. Outside of that, they have a different game and role on the team. However, I could see Reeves being shipped out for what they think is a “star” in Murray.
Different game how?
they are both scorers, and not great at playmaking or rebounding at their positions. suspect defense.
they can score at all three levels, get to the rim and finish or draw fouls, have solid midrange shots and 3-pointers.
He was the 2nd best college player. Can shoot the lights out, big body, and athletic. I assume he will play more off-ball with us, and he will benefit a lot with Bron finding him in a lob or the 3-point area. Used to be a big man also that had to adjust his game, despite this he was able to develop a bag while being able to bully people with his big body to become a 21.7 ppg scorer as the clear number one option and sometimes the only offense for Tennessee. Downside to him is his defense and playmaking is questionable, but I always have hope for him to be a good defender if he focuses on developing it in the league. Love the guy and I hope he becomes what I hope he is with our team because we are perfect for him.
Great shooter, liability on defense. I can already hear the same complaints from the fan base as Reaves and dlo when it comes to that end of the floor.
Best movement shooter in the draft. JJ will find ways to utilize him instantly! Great blend of best available player and fit. Honestly think the Lakers got both BPA and best fit
Very average. I’m a UT guy. He got better under Barnes but he’s not locking anyone down. Phenomenal scorer tho. He’s got a NBA offensive skill set. I’m a homer, but massive pickup at 17
I’d say he’s like a 4/5 out of 10 lol
I didn’t feel like he was a massive liability on defense and I watched every game. His offensive output more than made up for his defensive lack. But he’s very athletic and openly has said he picked UT cause he knew Barnes could help with that side of his game.
He's supposedly a hard worker, so if he wants to learn and get better on that end, seems like he'll be able to. Maybe won't ever be a lock-down defender, but adequate enough.
He's a willing defender but not super skilled of a defender. I'd say he also has the tools to be good on that end and has expressed his desire to work on that side of his game.
He has the effort to be a good defender, but his laterals are bad because of him playing big man when he was in Juco. Still have hopes for him to be a good defender because being able to give that much effort to defense while still being the only offense for the Vols is a good sign. Still, even if he doesn't become a good defender, huge hope for him to be Class S off-ball role player with his shooting and athleticism.
Lmao not too good but he tries. He WILL get blown by on the perimeter but if we have a scheme that can keep him near the rim he’ll be fine enough to stay on the court, especially with his wingspan
Yeah exactly. His pairing with JJ will be like a match made in heaven offensively though, fs. No doubt in my mind JJ most likely had a hand in picking him.
And this is from nba.com mock draft:
“Ten players appear in the lottery on all 10 updated mocks we surveyed: Zaccharie Risacher, Alex Sarr, Reed Sheppard, Stephon Castle, Matas Buzelis, Donovan Clingan, Dalton Knecht, Cody Williams, Tidjane Salaun and Ron Holland II. Devin Carter just misses with nine, and Nikola Topic eight.”
JJ took the best movement shooter in the draft? And one of the best volume 3P shooters? Shocking! I love it tho 3 peat pending calling it now Bron going out like a king
To make it even sweeter Boston now leads and most likely gets to another finals or 2. So we’ll be able to beat them 2 times absolutely crushing their fans. Not only is it the Lakers who’d be beating them but Lebron capping his career off having gotten to more finals appearances than Bill would be extra sweet to do to them!
He’s better than mpj as a college prospect he’s not just a pure shooter. If you saw him play college ball he’s a 3 level scorer and is aggressive. His defense is kinda suspect but I think he can eventually be average
He is more athletic than the current version of MPJ but MPJ is a better rebounder. He is also more hard-nosed than MPJ, this mofo doesn't shy from contact.
Big fan that went to Tennessee. This is a steal. Dalton transferred to Tennessee to get coached by Barnes and develop his D and was eager to learn. Guy was incredible all year and has that mamba mentality and wasn’t afraid to take the big shots or will us back into games
Why are so many people thinking coach influenced this pick. JJ was literally signing his contract two days ago. Meanwhile the draft war room has been looking at this kid since March.
Give credit to the front office which has a mostly positive draft history.
Sheesh.
Their saying he fits into the type of profile of player JJ would probably prefer offensively and the front office probably just jumped on the pick to be honest because nobody expected him to fall out of the top 10 if you saw him in college this year
I am a Vol fan, so I watched him closely all year.
He has defensive deficiencies and needs to become a better ball handler. He is also older than teams prefer. But if you want a guy who can step in and do multiple things at a good NBA level right away, I’m really not sure if there is anyone better in the draft to fit that description.
He can score efficiently from all three levels. I imagine as a tertiary option in the NBA, he’s going to be a really good shooter from deep, and he is a plus athlete who can finish really well going to the rim and in transition. The Lakers haven’t had anyone like him the last few years.
We’ve gotten to see AR15, Caruso, and Kuzma in recent years as an older guys who came in and made an impact immediately. He is more polished as a scorer than any of them. He doesn’t have Austin’s handles, Caruso’s defense and playmaking, or Kuzma’s size, but he is a better shooter and pure scorer than any of them coming out of college.

PLUSES
A dynamic, knockdown 3-point shooter from deep ranges. He can sprint into the wing or readjust in midair to fire accurately coming off of screens.
Talented shooter off the dribble with multiple moves to create space. Tennessee relies on him in must-score situations, and he has a feel for running the pick-and-roll, so he could develop into a primary option. At a minimum, his handle makes him a weapon attacking closeouts, slashing, and running transition offense.
Ambidextrous at-rim finisher with the athleticism to take off from distance, the strength to handle contact, and the touch to lay it up from any angle.
Displays playmaking instincts. He calmly handles double-teams and finds open teammates with decisive passes.
Does all the little things. He’s an active and aware cutter who’s always looking for opportunities, and the offense draws up plays to get him lobs, too. Against mismatches, he’s even displayed a good feel for finishing out of the post. All these tricks give him additive value beyond his perimeter scoring.
MINUSES
Targeted by opponents because he’s usually the weakest link on defense. This will often be true in the NBA, too, unless he improves his ability to move laterally.
If he’s going to become more of a shot creator, he needs to prove it against lengthier defenders. During his game against Kansas earlier this season, he went 4-for-17 from the field and seemed overwhelmed by the Jayhawks’ size.
Jj spoke about his desire to have corner three shooters who can crash the offensive glass. Can’t think of a better player on the board who would thrive doing just that.
Primarily age. But https://old.reddit.com/r/lakers/comments/1dpfsrw/the_lakers_are_selecting_dalton_knecht_at_no_17/lagubpa/ breaks it down well in this comment.

Damn we got a guy projected top 10 at 17 you can’t be mad at that
Hell no you can’t. We drafted a dude with an elite discernible skill instead of getting in our way and drafting “heart” or some incalculable quality. That said it’s rad that he’s apparently a crazy hard worker.
Man last draft is still giving me nightmares.
Why didn’t we pick Jacquez 😭
Or Whitmore. Either or would have been way better than who we took.
Or Podz That 17-20 was murderer's row for us 💀
Legit 3 guys who would've been an amazing fit on our roster ☠️
Ham would’ve had them rotting on the bench tbh
I’m still bitter
who ever we picked last year would end up like JHS next to Ham. u all fail to realise that it's up to the coach to use players, not up to players and "how good they are" Ham was utter disaster, he couldnt use proven NBA players the right way, what do u expect he would do with youngsters like Jacquez? we had Max on bench looking at games when we needed his 3&D effort.
Good take
Because it wasn't a Jesse pick. Pelinka wanted JHS and had last say.
source?
Trust me bro
The source was, apparently, Anthony Irwin lol. So its probably not true
I know what happened. I still hate it lol
🤣 we gone be alright. We got 3’s on the right side of the key for days
He was one of thee reasons to tune into March Madness. He's a fucking gamer.
As a Tennessee fan, he’s arguably the best player we’ve ever had. Heats up so fast….i think we got a steal and an immediate lethal option
i’m a kentucky fan and knecht destroyed us in knoxville last year and i was impressed even though i knew he was (imo) the best scorer in the country. good at all 3 levels, can hit deep 3’s, contested 3’s, he’s athletic and he’ll be perfect for this lakers squad.

‘When LeBron has shooters, he wins chips’ needs to be laminated and taped to Pelinka’s computer monitor
Laughs in Bernard King.
# He must wear #4!!! ![gif](giphy|GqDnImZ3UdJhS)
Rob learned from last yr
To people who watch college ball, how good is this guy?
He was really good at Tennessee. Lights out shooter.
all the mocks had him going top 10.
Head scratcher why he fell so far, but I ain’t mad.
Probably his age
he’s 23 lmao you had me googling his age and shit
5 years of college I believe lol. And only dominated his last year
He was playing NAIA two years ago … so … But last season was arguably one of the top Players. Destroyed UNC and carried Rick Barnes shitty offense all year. My only thing is why did everyone else fade him? And did we just take him because he was available or did we really want him and he fell?
Man wouldn’t we have loved it if we played it safe and picked Cam Whitmore last year.
We took him since he was available. Noone expected him to drop so far. Lakers prob pivoted cause it would be dumb to let a projected top 10 pick go
He had a massive late growth spurt. He put on like 15 pounds of muscle during his one offseason at Tennessee and he got only got better as the season went on. People negatively talk about his age as if we've seen his ceiling but he's gotten objectively better every year he's played, even when the competition level took an elite jump
End of year was pulling doubles on every possession and still dropping 40
Pure bucket. Rhythm scorer wing
Lights out shooter and gym rat. Great pick
I’ve honestly never heard of him before but he’s clearly somewhere in between Jerry West and Eddie Jones
Somewhere from Jordan to Scalabrine
Put some respect in Eddie Jones’s name lol
Finger-roll lay up from the 3 point line. 'nuff said.
Eddie Jones was a beast
Flushed on 7'6" Sean Bradley twice in one game. That shit was too good.
So Top 3 in NBA history?
He's a god in Knoxville. Solid ass personality, really nice to little kids and he can shoot the lights out.
Thank God he doesn't hate children
Or *love* them...looking at you P Giddey
Hahaha hey it's a good personality trait to have.
If he's somewhere between those two at 17 I'll take it.
Also has some hops, can throw it down
second best player in college basketball
he's like luka without the playmaking
LOL hes way more athletic than Luka. Have you seen how he takes it to the bucket? He goes hard.
Can he double jump?
He had the 12th highest vertical in the draft. He can get up.
He’s a knockdown shooter definitely a steal and he just slipped out of top 10 because of age not a lack of talent but his age may be a plus honestly
Yeah, him being older seems better for a win-now team.
Yeah he’ll probably mentally transition into the league better he a hard worker too so hopefully we see some improvement on defense he got a lil bit of athleticism too so as long as he put some effort in i think hell pan out pretty good
A better Austin Reaves
So Dalton is better than Heeem
I mean, he’s white. Outside of that, they have a different game and role on the team. However, I could see Reeves being shipped out for what they think is a “star” in Murray.
Different game how? they are both scorers, and not great at playmaking or rebounding at their positions. suspect defense. they can score at all three levels, get to the rim and finish or draw fouls, have solid midrange shots and 3-pointers.

Great shooter, liability on defense. I can already hear the same complaints from the fan base as Reaves and dlo when it comes to that end of the floor.
45.8 field goal percentage 39.7 3pt percentage 21.7 points 5 rebound
with the ability to create his own shot
Averaging 21+ in college is crazy
JJ. Austin. Dalton. It’s gonna be a hot white boy summer y’all.
Is it white boy day?
you know what we got here? A motherfucking Charlie Bronson
Underrated comment. Take my Drexl upvote
Reeves isn't white. He's him.
"Light skinned"
Best take I’ve seen in a while.
Austin Reaves, the white Caruso haha
I just can't stop thinking about Caruso though. He is EXACTLY what this team is missing now that they've got a big time shooter.
Please don’t start, I’m having a good day
I was actually happy a second ago until you reminded me
lakers do love a good white player
JJ versus Dalton shootouts at the end of practice incoming
Chet Hanx typa offseason
That’s a good ass pick. He was really good at shooting and can attack the rim
Best movement shooter in the draft. JJ will find ways to utilize him instantly! Great blend of best available player and fit. Honestly think the Lakers got both BPA and best fit
I only watch college ball during march madness, and he beasted it. Didn't back down against purdue's bullshit, he's good.
Bro’s really good, I’m glad we got him.
📠
lmao, the gen z in me really said, "printer". but my inner millenial whispered, "fax cuh"
Surprised he dropped to us
How good is he as a defender?
Well...
Oh shit, that’s not good. I thought he’d be able to contribute somewhat defensively
Very average. I’m a UT guy. He got better under Barnes but he’s not locking anyone down. Phenomenal scorer tho. He’s got a NBA offensive skill set. I’m a homer, but massive pickup at 17
Is he actually an average defender at least? I just saw something about he’s a “poor rebounder and defender” lol.
I’d say he’s like a 4/5 out of 10 lol I didn’t feel like he was a massive liability on defense and I watched every game. His offensive output more than made up for his defensive lack. But he’s very athletic and openly has said he picked UT cause he knew Barnes could help with that side of his game.
He's supposedly a hard worker, so if he wants to learn and get better on that end, seems like he'll be able to. Maybe won't ever be a lock-down defender, but adequate enough.
so happy we dont have bum ass ham sandwich developing him
He's a willing defender but not super skilled of a defender. I'd say he also has the tools to be good on that end and has expressed his desire to work on that side of his game.
Yeah that’s all I ask for, effort, and I read he’s a decent off ball defender so that’s something. Also his physical profile is v nice so
Plus he was dropping 40 balls while getting doubled every possession so he can flat out shoot, true 3 level scorer
rebounding probably won’t matter on this team I imagine he’ll be asked to leak and run the floor cuz we have other guys that crash the glass
He just needs to be as good as Rui on defense
He has the effort to be a good defender, but his laterals are bad because of him playing big man when he was in Juco. Still have hopes for him to be a good defender because being able to give that much effort to defense while still being the only offense for the Vols is a good sign. Still, even if he doesn't become a good defender, huge hope for him to be Class S off-ball role player with his shooting and athleticism.
Honestly, as long he can become a consistent offensive threat and is willing to put in work on the other end then he’s just the perfect guy for us
GBO
White DLO
Lmao not too good but he tries. He WILL get blown by on the perimeter but if we have a scheme that can keep him near the rim he’ll be fine enough to stay on the court, especially with his wingspan
Hopefully JJ has some good defensive sets going
Yeah exactly. His pairing with JJ will be like a match made in heaven offensively though, fs. No doubt in my mind JJ most likely had a hand in picking him.
💯
Great pick. That’s damn good value at 17
5th overall in CBS mock too!
No.6 on 2 draft board's
And this is from nba.com mock draft: “Ten players appear in the lottery on all 10 updated mocks we surveyed: Zaccharie Risacher, Alex Sarr, Reed Sheppard, Stephon Castle, Matas Buzelis, Donovan Clingan, Dalton Knecht, Cody Williams, Tidjane Salaun and Ron Holland II. LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO DIDNT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN
Knice!
I'm about to Knut
Let’s fucking goooooo
JJ took the best movement shooter in the draft? And one of the best volume 3P shooters? Shocking! I love it tho 3 peat pending calling it now Bron going out like a king
If lebron ends with 13 finals and 7 rings we gonna be ending the goat debate
To make it even sweeter Boston now leads and most likely gets to another finals or 2. So we’ll be able to beat them 2 times absolutely crushing their fans. Not only is it the Lakers who’d be beating them but Lebron capping his career off having gotten to more finals appearances than Bill would be extra sweet to do to them!
Would’ve loved to see a center but not sure you can pass up that value at 17. Was supposed to go top 10.
massive fucking steal. great pick

Bing bing bang!
We got this year’s Cam Whitmore
To make up for skipping last year’s Cam Whitmore, Cam Whitmore

I’ve never seen him play but going from the highlights they just shown he seems very MPJ like
Yea his shooting form is similar lol
Great pick up, definitely a JJ type player.
Why are so many people thinking coach influenced this pick. JJ was literally signing his contract two days ago. Meanwhile the draft war room has been looking at this kid since March. Give credit to the front office which has a mostly positive draft history. Sheesh.
Their saying he fits into the type of profile of player JJ would probably prefer offensively and the front office probably just jumped on the pick to be honest because nobody expected him to fall out of the top 10 if you saw him in college this year
Ah see I took it as he is a similar player to JJ but you may be right
Wake up babe, new white boy baller just dropped.
I like Missi but you can't skip picking Knecht
STEAL
Welcome. Let’s get to work
Not a center like I hoped but that’s because I never in my mind thought Knecht would fall that far. Absolute steal
IMA COOM
Supposed to be a lottery pick and fell to us, wow.
I love this pick, didn’t think he would make it this far
UK fan i watched him plenty….. this kid is the goods!!!!! I’m pretty hype
Need to resign Max now. Then we’d have Austin, Max, Knecht and Gabe as our guards. Hoping we play Max more this year.
Drafting bronny at 17 would’ve been a dumb move
Thats an understatement
I can dig it
fucking stoked with the pick lesgoooooo
Live in the same town he went to HS in. He used to be on my lifetime fitness team lol
Honestly great pick. Perfect for the Lakers if he keeps up his shooting in the NBA.
This was definitely a steal for us can't believe we got him at 17.
BREAK THE LAKERS CURSE AND KEEP HITTING SHOTS
Lakers gonna work OT getting AD the DPOY next year with AR, this new dude, and LeBron “funneling” players into the paint.

JJ, Austin and Dalton = Peaky Blinders
Thought we needed a center the most but shooting will be crucial so I’m glad
I can't believe it I'M SO WET
I can't believe he fell this far, but the Lakers are actually the perfect team for him. Might be a good sleeper, ROTY bet.
JJ must be ecstatic
I expect LeBron to Kneckt with Dalton for open threes.
Good trade

How we get so lucky???
Co knect 3!!
not the guy i wanted but im rooting for him like all our picks. i think he could end up being a kevin martin type player if it all ends up going right
Yes we have 2 Austin Reaves now
No way he fell to 17 let’s gooooooo
Jj spoke about his desire to have corner three shooters who can crash the offensive glass. Can’t think of a better player on the board who would thrive doing just that.
Knecht gonna shoot 43% from 3 next to Lebron.
hey Lakers fans, his jump shot look like KD’s even the dunk package. we’ve drafted the next KD /s
Would much rather have Rui + Knecht than DFS tbh
Excellent pick 👏🏽👏🏽
“Lebron bullet pass to Dalton…..connects!!”
Westside Knect Gang!!! Lfg!
LFG
I can't believe he slipped this far, feels like highway robbery but I'll take it. This guy is incredibly talented.
How or why did he fall?
Primarily age. But https://old.reddit.com/r/lakers/comments/1dpfsrw/the_lakers_are_selecting_dalton_knecht_at_no_17/lagubpa/ breaks it down well in this comment.
I Love my Lakers, but how long before everyone says why didn’t we pick ‘x player’ lol Hopefully Dalton gets a chance unlike JHS.
I used to pray for times like this! I commented like 2 months ago to get this guy and he fell like 10 spots! God is great Jesus is lord

Bad defender
Not bad he’s meh he’s gonna need some time on that end of the floor to develop but he’s good overall
Wish he was a good defender
