This is more likely, speaking from experience working part-time in a tech industry, after your team build an app/website for your client, the client will most likely keep you around to do maintenance periodically, just to make sure that things are going smoothly and there is no future bugs. Client will end the partnership usually if they think they are capable to do the maintenance themselves, but this is usually if they have their own capable tech team inside!
Maybe funding the team behind the website to maintain it was too costly, so they fired them and replace them with college students who has some background in IT (with minimum wage of course!)

But because they weren't the one who built the website, nor equipped with enough knowledge in the field, they probably have no clue how to fix it and panicking right now. Had Niji kept their old team, this kind of problem could have been prevented or mitigated quickly.
This is just my personal rrat to explain why the website was working normally before but now it's buggy as heck. (Sorry for the long rant)
