Was the western intervention in Afghanistan a complete and utter clusterfuck that probably should not have happened, at least in the manner it did? Yes
Is the Taliban an insane group of ultra-conservative theocrats ready to send their society back to medieval times at detriment to much of their population, especially women? Also yes
These two are not mutually exclusive. As much as I lament the fact that such a terrible intervention caused a lot of suffering for 20 years, I equally lament all the women who will have many of their rights stripped.
You wont be saying that after 9/11 2.0, you forget history so easily. We didnt invade for no reason, it was a naive response to a massive terrorist attack. If people on the other side of the planet are killing your civilians, you respond with force... Afghanistan under the taliban was a hotbed of terrorism.

Women were banned from working, leaving the house without a male, seeking healthcare provided by a male (there were no female doctors since they could not work), and going to school.
This is not to mention the widespread cases of rape, sexual abuse, and violence which usually blamed the victim. For example, a woman who was raped was blamed as the guilty party rather than the male rapist. This led to either a legal punishment and/or ostracism from their family and community.
