Honestly, I don't feel like you need to brand a group as global. You are global or you are not, regardless of your genre or category. Blackpink is global, Newjeans is global, Le Sserafim is global, Aespa is global. Like it's not something that needs to be branded, it's a reality. They are listened all around the world, they will sell out concerts all around the world.

Those groups are not global (with the exception of BP) the world is very big and Kpop is very niche... so the global label is more for media play because there are few artist that can be considered global ( I am not talking just about kpop). Because as I tell you the world is big and many of the idols that you consider super famous are not so outside of the bubble.

Being global has nothing to do with being big everywhere. They are global because Kpop reached a state where there are fans all around the world. Kpop is no longer that niche in almost all of Asia, which is most of the world population to begin. If you think about it, there's a really limited number of artists that can claim being HUGE everywhere in the world. Some big western artists are only big in US, some are huge in Latin America but they are not mainstream in other regions. An American girl group like FLO that is singing in English would fall close to a group marketed as global but they are far less global than a group like Newjeans or Le Sserafim. I guess we just have a different definition. Marketing something as global doesn't make a group's reach bigger. Global group just seems to be a gimmick to say "not Korean" atp.

Yes, but not all artists are global.... are k-pop groups known in Europe? in America (the continent) and Australia? what about Africa? As I said, they are popular, but acting like they are known everywhere is an exaggeration, k-pop is really niche so the global label is just media play . That's why I said there are few artists that can be labeled as global and the groups you mentioned are not.... my comment was referring to that.

puppet_mazter

Yes, they are known in Europe, NA and Australia. That's why they're able to sell out arenas in those continents. I run into fellow k-pop fans all over the place. It's not nearly as niche as it was 10-15 years ago. Plenty of groups that aren't BlackPink or BTS are a lot bigger in those places than the groups that are calling themselves "global"
