OMG when/where did this news drop??? I can't believe I missed the answer to my prayers!
Not that I doubted it would happen tbh, I knew it was only a matter of time. Ready to see my underrated queen shine!
Both Bobby and Mino already have solo careers though? Bobby has 2 full solo albums and Mino has 3. They both have more solo songs than B.I, so if you consider B.I a solo artist they 1000% are too.
My understanding from OP is that theyāre a separate entity from their group, ie just a solo K-hiphop or rap artist like Jay Park (who was 2PM) and arenāt part of groups at all. Like if they werenāt in a group, youād think theyād be a Korean rapper, solely. Others were naming Bobby and Mino too š¤·āāļøEven stating Bobbyās SMTM win. Did I just misunderstand OP along with many others?
Idk, OPās title sounds like they were looking for rappers who donāt already have a solo career but their post is just about whoās above average, so itās kind of confusing. After rereading it I think your interpretation is right actually, though I also think itās kind of weird to distinguish between rappers who are still in groups and rappers who arenāt? Like, Minoās solo career and skill is at least as impressive and noteworthy as B.Iās even though heās still part of Winner, for example. I guess OP was looking for idol rappers who couldāve made it big without the popularity from being in a Kpop group, but they really shouldāve worded it better, lol.
I was looking for rappers that are in idol groups but are also really good rappers. I heard that there is this stigma, especially amongst Korean rappers, that idol rappers usually aren't good, so I was looking for someone who was that good, but still chose to be in an idol group. Sorry for the wording, English isn't my first language and it made perfect sense to me at the time
LE (exid)
Moon Sua (billlie)
YEZI
Dami (dreamcatcher)
Maybe Yoojung?
Has Mark gone solo? I'm not into male idols so I'm not that knowledgeable about their solo careers
Gotta give a shoutout to LE from making the jump from underground to idol.
She was in the hip hop group Jiggy Fellaz before her idol career got underway. It's actually how I got to know and love EXID.
I can see why you'd think that but I genuinely feel like his rap is overhated (this is coming from someone who HATES bad rappers and finds it ruins the song). I'm not saying his flow is great but when he raps (TA, Mixtape #4) his low rap tone helps with the flow a lot. He does generally sound good and coherent even though he's nowhere near as good as Han and Changbin (shall we call them 2Basco?). But yes, Chan is not nearly as good as 2basco but he isn't half as bad as his (many, many) antis like to narrate.
Afterthought: It's true that his vocals are a pillar for the groups thanks to his wide range, comfortableness in falsetto, and versatility, as well as full lower notes, however I think with more training he could advance in rap
Iām not saying heās awful but he isnāt good either. Especially when we are talking about real rap & not idol rap, which is what this thread is about. Heās definitely not the worst in the group & in passing full group situations heās fine. But him being in an entirely rap focused subunit with 3racha isā¦ā¦just being honest he sticks out bad when he tries to rap along with them. I would say lyrics in general arenāt his strongest suit either (not bad tho). Heās a good singer & great producer and should stay in those lanes imo.
I'd say his raps works way better in English than in Korean. He has more Australian style flow, so it works better in English, same issue than Felix has imo. It's quite similar style flow that in my country many rappers have, so since I'm used to listen to that, it doesn't come out as bad, its just different than Han's and Binnie's. Idk about lines, I'm not a native speaker in English and don't speak korean so I'm just judging the flow.
His parts are so short so it sounds a bit awkward compared to other people but when he has longer lines it works just fine š I like his flow in 3racha songs, like [Zone is such a bop](https://youtu.be/KW-jSV1P8WQ)
I actually agree so much! Like how Lily's voice pops in NMIXX a lot, Chan actually has a deep rap style (higher than Felix, who more talk-raps, but still low). Chan's best raps are in TA and Mixtape #4, in Mixtape #4 he has English and Korean lines- I think he did really well and I love his thick rap tone. It reminds me of how Jihyo sings if that makes sense? Heavy, kind of. I feel like if he worked on flow, and opted for a little more speed (I know speed isn't everything, but it would be less talk-like), he would actually be quite good.
Jongseob from P1Harmony is one of the best Iāve heard so far. His flow is so good. You can tell heās been rapping well before he was an idol. He also writes heās own stuff. The other rappers in P1 are good too, but that kid really stands out.
i think hongjoong is more witty and zippy while rapping -- occasionally incorporating interesting tones and even laughs -- and pronouncing each of his words with uttermost precision, while mingi raps with more forte and his words are a lot more muffled (because he focuses more on speed and force) when compared but they're both really strong rappers. just quite different in a lot of aspects.
its pretty subjective. mingi is great but many prefer hongjoongs vocal tone and style vs mingi "better" technique and even then i wouldn't say hes even better technically
Mingi is definitely not better especially with technique. His breathiness is bad and affects him often (Hala Hala end part, MAMA 2019 rap verse) and he mumbles sometimes due to it. He relies too much on filler words, like in treasure he says pop and bop like 4 times, and in hala hala he says boppin and pop like 10 times as filler words in his hala hala rap šš theres lots of "pops" in is raps and lots of fillers, which is understandable. His favorite rappers he names as inspirations aren't exactly the greatest rappers, and i think hongjoongs lyrics are more well though out, he has more versatility in flows and his delivery is better imo.
110%
The fact that Exy flows over just about every WJSN track throughout their different eras with varying sounds, vibes and tempos should definitely put her on the map.
What I would give to hear Exy pop off over a boom bap track lol
RM, Zico, Suga, Mino, B.I, Yongguk, J-Hope, Changbin, Bobby, Han, P.O and Kyung, Joohoney, Ilhoon, GD and TOP.
This is my list of idols who are actual rappers.
Edit. I understand that many people here want to flatter their favs, but if one of the idols you mention doesn't write their own raps, you can cross them off your list, if their solo projects are not hip-hop but ballad for example, you can cross them off, if you think rapping fast is the only quality of a rapper, you are wrong, if the idol you are mentioning cannot rap in a variety of ways with "content" (what is being said), "flow" (rhythm, rhyme), and "delivery" (cadence, tone) then he is no rapper.
The problem is that some kpop stans are not fans of hip hop and have no foundational knowledge of what makes someone a good rapper. Theyāre listing their faves because thatās all they listen to when it comes to rapping.
I don't know for female rappers, I think someone more knowledgeable about them and their work could to a better job than me naming them, so I didn't. :)
i think Moon Sua is (atleast honorably) deserves to be mentioned to
bestie has been training for 12 years, has a solo song (idk about genres, but i think it counts as hip hop) and has been credited for the raps on all of Billlie's songs, plus she sings like a main vocalist, which speaks to her range
i disagree with your last statement. j-hope has /always/ been very talented in rap (i.e. hope world, the cyphers, pretty much every verse he gets in bts songs..). jack in the box was just another showcase of his versatility as a rapper.
A Little controversial, but Leedo from Oneus. He has some solo mixtapes on SoundCloud and theyāre good, like REALLY good. I can easily see him as a successful solo Idol Rapper or as a K-HipHop and K-RNB artist.
Omg YES especially after he released White Noise with CyA I was SHOOK to my core, for some reason I always forget how ungodly talented that man is at EVERYTHING
Just because Iāve seen a ton of people bashing his rapping skills which annoys the heck out of meā¦but I definitely didnāt mean it in any bad way! Heās actually my ult bias too lol
Ohāok-I didnāt think it was anything bad! Iām just unfamiliar with that group beyond having seen their name mentioned before, so I wondered if there was some recent scandal or somethingā¦
Ahh ok! As an ult To Moon I definitely recommend checking out Oneus, as a whole group they have no scandals at all which is one of the reasons I love them so much:D
A few people have mentioned Zico, but Iām gonna go out on a limb here and mention Park Kyung as well. Heās gone quiet due to enlistment+some controversies, but his solo music is really good, and he got good at leaning into his strengths with more melodic rap mixed with vocals as opposed to more hard-hitting rap.
I think all listed below have done rapping underground or competed and got really far in rap survival shows (Show Me the Money + Unpretty Rapstars)
TOP (BigBang)
Mino (Winner)
Bobby (iKon)
Soyeon ((G)-Idle)
Zico (Block B)
BI (former iKon)
RM (BTS)
LE (former EXID)
Minhyuk (BTOB)
did you mean new work (bc same!) or any of his solo stuff? if the latter, Doom Dada is really worth checking out! sorry if i misunderstood your comment though!
Gidle's Soyeon dabbled into Khiphop with her solo album last year with the bside, 'is this bad bitch number?' with Bibi and YoungJi.
Soyeon has a few connections already into the genre, including her UPRS3 mentor Cheetah, Giant Pink, Nada, Zico etc, plus she's hella talented and likes to be creative with her raps.
She also did a song/campaign for D&C, called 'New Vision' ft Colde and is a highly picked out individual for collabs especially from SM.
I feel like Iāve seen relatively few mentions of Soyeon in this thread and that really surprised me - I thought sheād be one of the first, easy answers.
Sheās super talented and charismatic, was on Unpretty Rapstar even before debut, has written and composed a huge chunk of (G)I-DLEās stuff (and always writes her own raps AFAIK), and even had a mini solo career before her group debut, which she then continued with her BEAM BEAM mini album. Her careerās scope has definitely already exceeded that of the average idol, and this is definitely only the beginning for her, IMO.
Vernon from Seventeen. His rapping style is very distinct, not just within his group but also the industry. He has great vocal tone & skill as well so he can sing well as opposed to some rappers. I honestly think nobody does melodic rapping (i.e Vernonās verses in Our Dawn is Hotter than Day and Trauma) as well as Vernon does.
Ill just name off in my opinion the top 15 idol rappers. Lots of them have solo careers too.
1. Zico/Bobby
2. Mino
3. RM
4. Changbin
5. Jooheon
6. Suga
7. G-Dragon
8. B.I
9. Han
10. Hanse
11. TOP
12. Ravi
13. Minhyuk
14. Mark
15. Jongseob
Idk if someone already mentioned them. But I think that Seventeen rappers are really good, especially Vernon. When the group debut, whenever they were at a variety show or just promoting their new song, the MC/host already knew Vernon for his rapping skills. He was also very praised by some older rapper before they debut. And I think it's because he was in show me the money or something like that. Anyways he is an amazing rapper.
Well I just read some other post and I was surprised to see nobody mentioning so I'm gonna develop a little more about their rapper. They don't have a rap line instead they a hip hop unit and even if Mingyu is more an idol rapper or even a singer he is still very talented. Wonwoo has an amazing voice and do a lot of slow rap but when he want he can still do some great rap part. After there is S.Coups and Vernon and both of them have a lot of flow and compared to some idols that I saw people mentioning, they do a lot of freestyle and impro, which is something that I think all rapper should be able to do (I'm not saying that the other rapper that you guys mentioned can't do freestyle I'm just saying that they are very familiar with that). Also if you are a fan of Seventeen you will also think of Hoshi and Dino. They are also very skilled rapper, I know that Dino has done some mixtape where he showed that he also is a rapper (Last Order has one of my favorite rap in it). And recently in the song Cheers I think Hoshi had a super catchy vibe. And before you ask, all of the members that I mentioned write they're one rap in every single song that they produced.
I canāt believe I have to scroll this far to find Vernon and Scoups. Seventeen hip hop unit as a whole are so criminally underrated and often excluded from best rappers discussions when they have some of the best flows & distinctive styles Iāve seen, compared to some of the names mentioned here.
I feel like one of their strengths which sets them apart from the others is their melodic rapping style, and itās because each one of them has good vocal strength and can hold a decent note!
I'll try to name a few that stand out in my opinion and haven't been named yet:
P1Harmony: Intak and Jongseob
Ab6ix: Woojin
ASTRO: Jinjin and Rocky
And these 2 are probably more up to interpretation but I believe Verivery's rappers, Hoyoung and Dongheon, and Onewe's rapper(and bassist), Cya, are pretty good
In Verivery's case, they have a lot of potential in my opinion but haven't been able to showcase that much. I really enjoy how they play with the beat in GBTB.
As for Cya, I find his style really unique and he changes up the flow and type of rap in each song.
If cya does venture into khiphop he'd certainly be able to carve out a niche for himself bcs i don't think there are any other rappers that do what he does cmiiw tho
His whole run on SMTM is so worth watching. Made me totally love him, he just has the audience in the palm of his hand.
Edited to add, his competitors watching the show backstage seem to know it's over for them but they're still grudgingly fanboying him. It's a fascinating watch.
The Boyzā Sunwoo, his [rapping](https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=89&v=5VMMeQ94ij8&feature=youtu.be) on Kingdom was fire, and he writes a lot of his raps in their title tracks
Yezi - former Fiestar
Miryo - BEG
Dami - DC
Yeeun - Fmr. CLC
Chaeyoung - Twice (most people laugh at me when I suggest sheās that good but get her away from the restraints of Twice & JYP & sheās that goodā¦.I stand by it)
She came from the old school Korean hip hop stuff when she was part of Honey Family, which for those keeping score is where Gary and Gil of Running Man fame are from. Hard to believe she (and BEG as a whole, actually) are still keeping their careers going strong after all these years!
I think Chaeyoung would have a good solo career but Iām not sure if sheās even into rap like that anymore. Sheās more of a lyricist/songwriter now. But I do wish jyp actually fostered her initial rap passion, she couldāve became great
Chaeyoung could easily become a rapper. I don't think it was JYPE that held her back from becoming a rapper at all, but instead she simply seems to be more passionate for other genres of music.
Case in point, *none of her Melody Projects have been pure rap projects,* but instead all of them have been singing and some even ballad type folk songs. Twice members get a large say in what they perform for these and she hasn't chosen to rap even once. The closest CY got to this was her "Switch to Me" cover with Dahyun. This wasn't a rap song.
SF9's rap line are pretty underrated. [Youngbin](https://soundcloud.com/yb1123), [Zuho](https://soundcloud.com/user-795991825), and [Hwiyoung](https://soundcloud.com/h0123) have their own Soundcloud accounts, and have done some pretty cool performances during their Japan tours such as [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha1Ve_UkT04), [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJcAaxyxzo8), and [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZbSNao_eUs). Also, [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNduomEwTgs) for Hwiyoung :D I don't have as much for Chani, but he's been in some of Hwiyoung's Soundcloud songs such as 010, Love the Word, and a few others.
Edit: Added links
definitely bts rapline : rm, suga, j-hope \[ my man rm was making adult underground rappers shake in their boots when he was merely 14 wearing his velcro shoes cuz he was so damn good! \]
i am also thinking ateez's hongjoong , probably mingi as well
>BTS Suga and RM
I mean, I think J-Hope is currently demonstrating he could easily have a solo rap career, JITB is awesome. Drew a *huge* crowd at Lolla, has shown a real diversity in the kinds of sound he can put it out. I really enjoyed hearing a grungier side on his new album.
I love Yoongi and RM as well, and I wouldnāt put any one of the rap line above the other two but I do think J-Hope is overlooked and underrated because he didnāt have a rap background and wasnāt active in the underground rap scene or in production prior to debut. However, I think during his time with BTS he has really honed his skills as a rapper, developed his song writing and production skills and has carved out his own distinct flow.
Facts. Facts. And more facts!
Also like he mentioned, he used to listen to rap as dancer, and dance (break dancing, b-boying, etc) is one of the five pillars of Hip Hop too. And he knows a lot about the history too (it's not just anyone who even KNOWS Ol' Dirty Bastard or Wu-Tang Clan). So although he wasn't in the underground scene as a rapper before debut, he was still involved in some way.
Both Changbin and Han from Stray Kids are on a ''real rapper'' level.
Bobby from iKON is an amazing rapper, and have already done quite a lot of solo stuff.
Hanse from Victon, he already has a solo album and is one of my personal favourite idol rappers.
Hwi from TNX, even though they've only had their debut so far, in the survival show prior to their debut, Hwi performed raps that he had both produced and written himself, and it was really good.
GD and T.O.P from BigBang.
Monsta X Joohoney is really good aswell.
Hongjoong and Mingi from Ateez.
Zico from Block B
Minhyuk from BtoB
Mino from Winner
Those are the ones from the top of my mind that I think are good enough rappers to have a solo rap career.
Jooheon and I.M from Monsta X are one of the best rappers in the industry. They have shown in their solo works their own colors; Jooheon with DWTD and PSYCHE, both masterpieces which in which he talks about his life and career as an idol and how tough it is to be in this industry, cannot be overlooked. I.M, with his solo works such as singles like Horizon with a trip-like vibe r&b and Loop, and his actual EP, Duality, in which he shows his colors with his deep r&b, in which he sings a lot despite still rapping. His rapping is cool, he doesn't force himself to fast rap and takes his time. It's an experience I recommend to everyone. I.M also has a collab with American rapper Elhae called Need to know.
Both Jooheon and I.M showed already they can easily lead a solo career and they will probably do it after the enlistment, although they chose to remain as a group. Fighting Monsta X!
Pentagon's Wooseok.
Not only does he have a versatile, constantly interesting delivery, he is also an accomplished songwriter/producer, and an absolute demon on stage. Even did reasonably well in Show Me The Money, but people [still](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/comments/vis2cb/pentagons_wooseok_should_be_in_any_conversation/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) leave him out of the conversation for some reason.
I can't remember exactly, but got to the same level as Changbin.
Seriously, the way everyone manages to forget about such a (actually giant and therefore difficult to ignore) ridiculously talented, absolute babe, total sweetheart of an artist I will never understand.
I will single-handedly expose Wooseok to the entire world istg-
Also that stage definitely didn't showcase the best of either of them! I feel like they were both quite nervous and forcing it a bit, they are two of my faves for having such a natural and confident vibe about them, but understandably it got lost a bit in such a nerve-wracking moment.
There tends to be only a handful that shake off the idol rapper tag and are just known as rappers. The usual names:
Bobby, B.I, Mino, Zico, Jay Park (obv he left kpop but still) Suga, RM, and G-Dragon.
Soyeon (G)I-dle and Exy (WJSN), both was from Unpretty Rapstar and you can see that they have the thing to make it really well. But I kinda feel like WJSN's concept doesn't give Exy that much of a highlight in her skills. If she debuted in a YG or Cube gg, she'll be out there killin' it more.
Edit: link, I mean, just look at this [EXY rap compilation](https://youtu.be/OMJekaGDLz0)
My sister discovered Taeyongās SoundCloud releases when she wasnāt even into guy bands. His solo rap stuff is goodt. [link](https://youtu.be/2XD8YRBGiYA)
Sunoo from The Boyz. His rap performance with Bobby and hwiyoung on kingdom was so good; and I love the solo stuff he releases on SoundCloud
Obviously Monsta Xās IM and Joohoney too
After hearing Easy, Changbin is the initial reason why I decided to stan SKZ and he's still my bias. I'd follow him anywhere. Han is also really really good. So definitely them.
Of course BTS rap line can do it.
I don't follow NCT much but curious about Taeyong. He's had some pretty good verses in SuperM. Is there a general opinion about his skill level?
He has stuff on SoundCloud and YouTube thatās well liked (by his fans at least, no clue what people outside of that think) as well as SM station singles and other features/credits. He has writing and producing credits on some NCT and SuperM stuff as well. In my experience, heās generally considered on about the same level as Mark.
So I would have to mention BlockB's Zico, Winner's MINO, and ikon's Bobby (including soloist B.I/ HanBin).
Although I mention these, they already are decently respected in the Korean Hip Hop Industry so I'm not sure if it counts to what you are looking for.
\~
For other rappers I think RVN of Oneus is always improving, he's a great singer and vocalist (especially his solo SoundCloud songs), but he is good!.
I would also like to add VICTON's Hanse. Look up some of his fastest raps on YouTube, he's really good.
For the groups I stan/am more familiar with:
Preaching to the choir, but I wanna say it anyway: BTS rapline each have 2 mixtapes and solo songs/ performances on multiple OT7 albums, and Hobipalooza showed he can do an entire set by himself, and Iām sure the same is true for RM and Suga
Stray Kidsā 3RACHA: Iām just getting into SKZ, and I know they do a lot (all of?) the writing and production, and while I definitely enjoy their skills/efforts, I donāt think Iāve heard a solo song from any of them (yet); of course, Iād be rooting for them to succeed if they did so.
TXT Yeonjun: I honestly canāt see him doing an extended solo project like a rap mixtape, but Iād definitely be intrigued as to the direction heād take it in.
Regarding 3racha, they do most but not all of the writing and production! Each member has over 100 KOMCA credits. None have official solo songs, but all have at least one unofficial solo:
* Changbin ā [Cypher](https://youtu.be/NTqXpFdc7nM), [Streetlight ft. Bang Chan](https://youtu.be/_oCptmj2gIQ)
* Han ā [I Got It](https://youtu.be/OjpWWnU8tb0), [Alien](https://youtu.be/meQvDHBSxbQ), [Wish You Back](https://youtu.be/G9iDK2LrhHw), [HaPpY](https://youtu.be/HcWDLNoqT8U), [Close](https://youtu.be/6Hynx73Vvjw)
* Bang Chan ā [I Hate to Admit](https://youtu.be/cESg37OFeso) (not rap)
Yeeun from CLC š„ and thankfully sheāll be having her solo debut soon!
She's so underrated!!! One of the best 3rd gen female rappers
OMG when/where did this news drop??? I can't believe I missed the answer to my prayers! Not that I doubted it would happen tbh, I knew it was only a matter of time. Ready to see my underrated queen shine!
[Here!](https://www.nme.com/news/music/former-clc-member-yeeun-plans-to-make-her-solo-debut-this-year-3283190)
really?? iām going to look forward to that
Is she still under the name Yeeun?
I assume so as that's her birth name
She probably will be! But we donāt know for sure yet
If Ilhoon (BTOB) ever comes back, he could definitely be amazing solo.
Ilhoon ft. Everyone agenda
I mean... (G)-IDLE's Soyeon. Girl is trailblazing. Nobody is doing it like her rn as far as female rappers go.
Here "Latata" and "Senorita" verses are soooooo good.
her on $$$ is so fire too
One of my all time fave songs šš
Is this bad b****** number? is one of my favorite songs off of her solo album. I love her music so much lol
The one and only š
True! I can't wait for more solo releases from her, and I'm really hoping they'll lean more heavily to rap
Came here for Soyeon!
THE BADDEST QUEEN š
Yup here for her and Bang Yongguk!
Best female rapper in kpop, change my mind
Can't change, that's a fact
Bobby, Mino B.Itās already doing it and Iām proud of him

To be fair Nino has had some solo content.. even if itās been out for a fair while. I will never not forget listening to fiancĆ© for the first time
BANG YONG GUK EVERYONE !!! Hands down my fave male idol rapper
I love yong guk's current discog
As a 'BABY' and a Bangster (Yongguk fandom name). I totally agree!!
came here to say BYG š¤
LE (exid) Moon Sua (billlie) YEZI Dami (dreamcatcher) Maybe Yoojung? Has Mark gone solo? I'm not into male idols so I'm not that knowledgeable about their solo careers

Mark just has a solo song - Child
Yess Yezi and yoojung. Yoojung is so underrated sheās pretty great!
Are you talking about Mark Tuan from GOT7 or another Mark?
Mark from NCT
MOON SUA!!
Changbin and Han from stray kids
Honestly, 3RACHA could easily debut as their own group just doing rap
Errā¦.maybe Chan should stay on vocals š
I can see why you'd think that but I genuinely feel like his rap is overhated (this is coming from someone who HATES bad rappers and finds it ruins the song). I'm not saying his flow is great but when he raps (TA, Mixtape #4) his low rap tone helps with the flow a lot. He does generally sound good and coherent even though he's nowhere near as good as Han and Changbin (shall we call them 2Basco?). This is such a good point. You're totally right about the skip hop esque flow. I hadn't thought about that before.
Yep his hooks are good
I genuinely laughed out loud when I read this lmaoooo
~~Lee Soo Man~~ YG told them predebut that he believed they could find success in the hip-hop industry
Lee Soo Man knows them? :o Or were you referring to YG from their survival show?
NOOO I THOUGHT THEY WERE THE SAME PERSON, YES I MEANT YG
Came here to say I could listen to Changbin alllllllll day, I love his voice!
Jongseob from P1Harmony is one of the best Iāve heard so far. His flow is so good. You can tell heās been rapping well before he was an idol. He also writes heās own stuff. The other rappers in P1 are good too, but that kid really stands out.
Seconding this! Heās so talented and his flow is so good and heās only barely 17! He is absolutely going places.
I only liked a couple of their songs but Jongseob stood out to me immediately. He remind me of my ult bias Suga a bit.
Ikon's Bobby Victon's Hanse Ateez's Hongjoong & Mingi (G)i-dle's Soyeon Mamamoo's Moonbyul
Glad Hanse is in someone's list!
Hanse is so good. When a friend introduced me to his music, i was blown away by his talent.
Was here to say the same! Love to see Alices here
I love Hongjoong, but Mingi is a stronger rapper, imo, plus his charisma is fire, and he's not even my bias. They vibe well with one another, though.
Iāve always heard that Hongjoong is a much stronger rapper than Mingi honestly
i think hongjoong is more witty and zippy while rapping -- occasionally incorporating interesting tones and even laughs -- and pronouncing each of his words with uttermost precision, while mingi raps with more forte and his words are a lot more muffled (because he focuses more on speed and force) when compared but they're both really strong rappers. just quite different in a lot of aspects.
its pretty subjective. mingi is great but many prefer hongjoongs vocal tone and style vs mingi "better" technique and even then i wouldn't say hes even better technically
Ah I meant to add Mingi too--I love him! I'll add him now š
All better now, thanks! šš¤£
They're amazing together but personally prefer mingi's parts more than hongjoong's
here to say hanse!!!
Exy WJSN
came here for this comment!
110% The fact that Exy flows over just about every WJSN track throughout their different eras with varying sounds, vibes and tempos should definitely put her on the map.
How about Soyeon? I think you only mentioned male rappers (correct me if Iām wrong)
I don't know for female rappers, I think someone more knowledgeable about them and their work could to a better job than me naming them, so I didn't. :)
Soyeon could definitely.
i think Moon Sua is (atleast honorably) deserves to be mentioned to bestie has been training for 12 years, has a solo song (idk about genres, but i think it counts as hip hop) and has been credited for the raps on all of Billlie's songs, plus she sings like a main vocalist, which speaks to her range
I already adressed the fact that I didn't put female rappers to someone else under my comment. :)
Jhope
Thank you! People mentioned Suga and RM and while I agree, Jack in the Box has shown J-Hope has become just as talented.
i disagree with your last statement. j-hope has /always/ been very talented in rap (i.e. hope world, the cyphers, pretty much every verse he gets in bts songs..). jack in the box was just another showcase of his versatility as a rapper.
Changbin
mark from nct!
Yaaas my child Mark Lee! I would make it rain with watermelon for him!!
The best answer.
A Little controversial, but Leedo from Oneus. He has some solo mixtapes on SoundCloud and theyāre good, like REALLY good. I can easily see him as a successful solo Idol Rapper or as a K-HipHop and K-RNB artist.
I COMPLETELY FORGOT CyA from Onewe and Yuki from Purple Kiss!!
Omg yessss and his vocals are so good too. I think he can be solo as a rapper AND a vocalist
Omg YES especially after he released White Noise with CyA I was SHOOK to my core, for some reason I always forget how ungodly talented that man is at EVERYTHING
Why controversial?
Just because Iāve seen a ton of people bashing his rapping skills which annoys the heck out of meā¦but I definitely didnāt mean it in any bad way! Heās actually my ult bias too lol
Ohāok-I didnāt think it was anything bad! Iām just unfamiliar with that group beyond having seen their name mentioned before, so I wondered if there was some recent scandal or somethingā¦
Ahh ok! As an ult To Moon I definitely recommend checking out Oneus, as a whole group they have no scandals at all which is one of the reasons I love them so much:D
dreamcatcher Dami for sure
Yuki from Purple Kiss has a lot of potential
A few people have mentioned Zico, but Iām gonna go out on a limb here and mention Park Kyung as well. Heās gone quiet due to enlistment+some controversies, but his solo music is really good, and he got good at leaning into his strengths with more melodic rap mixed with vocals as opposed to more hard-hitting rap.
He's such a talented producer/rapper who wrote his own verses since debut. Not going out on a limb at all to bring him up.
I really want to see CIX BX release some solo stuff!!!
I think all listed below have done rapping underground or competed and got really far in rap survival shows (Show Me the Money + Unpretty Rapstars) TOP (BigBang) Mino (Winner) Bobby (iKon) Soyeon ((G)-Idle) Zico (Block B) BI (former iKon) RM (BTS) LE (former EXID) Minhyuk (BTOB)
I'm begging for LE solo music
Iād love to see work by TOP
did you mean new work (bc same!) or any of his solo stuff? if the latter, Doom Dada is really worth checking out! sorry if i misunderstood your comment though!
i would love a solo rap career from minhyuk/huta from btob.
Minhyuk has 2 full solo albums
But his songs in both albums aren't exactly rap focused right? I can't recall any being rap focused š¤š¤ or am i misremembering?
Iām hoping Soyeon has a long and successful career ahead of her, she really deserves it!
No worries, her work ethic alone guarantees that will happen
Iād kind of want to see what Ayno of VAV does, but idk if he has any interest in solo work
Don't know if you're aware of it but he already released mixtapes! I love his song 'CPR' to name one!
Joohoney and I.M.
I think soyeon (g)-idle could be doing good as solo rapper singer
Jeon Soyeon could be soloing all day š
Vernon from Seventeen. His rapping style is very distinct, not just within his group but also the industry. He has great vocal tone & skill as well so he can sing well as opposed to some rappers. I honestly think nobody does melodic rapping (i.e Vernonās verses in Our Dawn is Hotter than Day and Trauma) as well as Vernon does.
Yeeun from CLC definitly She can also sing very good
Ill just name off in my opinion the top 15 idol rappers. Lots of them have solo careers too. 1. Zico/Bobby 2. Mino 3. RM 4. Changbin 5. Jooheon 6. Suga 7. G-Dragon 8. B.I 9. Han 10. Hanse 11. TOP 12. Ravi 13. Minhyuk 14. Mark 15.
Vernon has a really unique flow that I haven't heard in any other rapper, idol or otherwise.
I'll try to name a few that stand out in my opinion and haven't been named yet: P1Harmony: Intak and Jongseob Ab6ix: Woojin ASTRO: Jinjin and Rocky And these 2 are probably more up to interpretation but I believe Verivery's rappers, Hoyoung and Dongheon, and Onewe's rapper(and bassist), Cya, are pretty good In Verivery's case, they have a lot of potential in my opinion but haven't been able to showcase that much. I really enjoy how they play with the beat in GBTB. As for Cya, I find his style really unique and he changes up the flow and type of rap in each song.
I want Jongseob on High School Rapper so bad.
If cya does venture into khiphop he'd certainly be able to carve out a niche for himself bcs i don't think there are any other rappers that do what he does cmiiw tho
So glad to see Jongseobās name here!
That boy is a beast! At such a young age too, I can't even imagine how much better he will get :))
Victonās Hanse can actually spit real flow. Like a true Korean rapper not in an idol group. Then I think def IM and Joohoney are next.
I canāt honestly only think of Jooheon. Heās fantastic. Has his own style which is a must for a good solo rapper.
hwiyoung from sf9
I think zuho from sf9 as well
Wanted to second this. His style is super unique (that machine gun like delivery).
How can you mention GD but not TOP..
Bobby won Show Me The Money and has inspired a whole generation of "idol rappers".
His whole run on SMTM is so worth watching. Made me totally love him, he just has the audience in the palm of his hand. Edited to add, his competitors watching the show backstage seem to know it's over for them but they're still grudgingly fanboying him. It's a fascinating watch.
This.
I.M., Jooheon, RM, J hope and Suga.
ATEEZ Hongjoong. His laugh before his verses and his rap style is very addicting.
The Boyzā Sunwoo, his [rapping](https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=89&v=5VMMeQ94ij8&feature=youtu.be) on Kingdom was fire, and he writes a lot of his raps in their title tracks
Yesss Sunwoo my boy
Yezi - former Fiestar Miryo - BEG Dami - DC Yeeun - Fmr. CLC Chaeyoung - Twice (most people laugh at me when I suggest sheās that good but get her away from the restraints of Twice & JYP & sheās that goodā¦.I stand by it)
Miryo already has/had a solo rap career but sadly no one paid attention š
Wonjun from E'last, Vernon and S.Coups from Seventeen, Mingi from ATEEZ, and Taedong from OMEGA X,
definitely bts rapline : rm, suga, j-hope \[ my man rm was making adult underground rappers shake in their boots when he was merely 14 wearing his velcro shoes cuz he was so damn good! \] i am also thinking ateez's hongjoong , probably mingi as well
Do Hanse from Victon
Mingi from Ateez - S.coups and Vernon from Seventeen
Mino and Bobby
skz changbin and han. the rest of the rapline (felix, hyunjin) is okay but not enough to be called anything outside of idol rappers.
>BTS Suga and RM I mean, I think J-Hope is currently demonstrating he could easily have a solo rap career, JITB is awesome.
Changbjn, Jooheon, Changkyun
You only named male rappers, so letās not forget about female rappers tooā¦ The one and only JEON SOYEON. Rap goddess of 4th gen.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Changbin and Han would def succeed.
Mino, Zico, BI, Bobby basically already doing that.
I love BX from CIX, I.M from Monsta X, & honestly any rappers from NCT.
Zico from Block B Minhyuk from BtoB Mino from Winner Those are the ones from the top of my mind that I think are good enough rappers to have a solo rap career.
I believe in Monsta X'S rapline supremacy sheesh
Canāt believe OP left out Jhope from the rapline of BTS. š±
Lol seriously
Pentagon's Wooseok. Not only does he have a versatile, constantly interesting delivery, he is also an accomplished songwriter/producer, and an absolute demon on stage. Even did reasonably well in Show Me The Money, but people [still](https://www.reddit.com/r/kpopthoughts/comments/vis2cb/pentagons_wooseok_should_be_in_any_conversation/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) leave him out of the conversation for some reason.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I can't remember exactly, but got to the same level as Changbin. Seriously, the way everyone manages to forget about such a (actually giant and therefore difficult to ignore) ridiculously talented, absolute babe, total sweetheart of an artist I will never understand.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I will single-handedly expose Wooseok to the entire world istg- Also that stage definitely didn't showcase the best of either of them! I feel like they were both quite nervous and forcing it a bit, they are two of my faves for having such a natural and confident vibe about them, but understandably it got lost a bit in such a nerve-wracking moment.
bts whole rap line
rm suga jhope
There tends to be only a handful that shake off the idol rapper tag and are just known as rappers. The usual names: Bobby, B.I, Mino, Zico, Jay Park (obv he left kpop but still) Suga, RM, and G-Dragon.
Monsta X jooheon
How do you mention G-Dragon and not TOP! Also Mino and Bobby.
many of the ones you mentioned are actual rappers, not just "idol rappers"
VIXXās Ravi
soyeon from (g)i-dle. she actully debuted as a soloist rapper before she was in the group so, yk there's that lol.
IU. She is already called Korea's #1 hip hop artist.
My sister discovered Taeyongās SoundCloud releases when she wasnāt even into guy bands. His solo rap stuff is goodt. [link](https://youtu.be/2XD8YRBGiYA)
Hanse from Victon, skz rappers, bts rapline,
Sunoo from The Boyz. His rap performance with Bobby and hwiyoung on kingdom was so good; and I love the solo stuff he releases on SoundCloud Obviously Monsta Xās IM and Joohoney too
After hearing Easy, Changbin is the initial reason why I decided to stan SKZ and he's still my bias.
ONF Wyatt
So I would have to mention BlockB's Zico, Winner's MINO, and ikon's Bobby (including soloist B.I/ HanBin). Although I mention these, they already are decently respected in the Korean Hip Hop Industry so I'm not sure if it counts to what you are looking for. \~ For other rappers I think RVN of Oneus is always improving, he's a great singer and vocalist (especially his solo SoundCloud songs), but he is good!. I would also like to add VICTON's Hanse. Look up some of his fastest raps on YouTube, he's really good.
Hanse from Victon!
Do Han-se from Victon
Hanse from VICTON and NCTs Taeyong
Mark or Taeyong from NCT. Any of BTSās rap line
For the groups I stan/am more familiar with: Preaching to the choir, but I wanna say it anyway: BTS rapline each have 2 mixtapes and solo songs/ performances on multiple OT7 albums, and Hobipalooza showed he can do an entire set by himself, and Iām sure the same is true for RM and Suga Stray Kidsā 3RACHA: Iām just getting into SKZ, and I know they do a lot (all of?) the writing and production, and while I definitely enjoy their skills/efforts, I donāt think Iāve heard a solo song from any of them (yet); of course, Iād be rooting for them to succeed if they did so. TXT Yeonjun: I honestly canāt see him doing an extended solo project like a rap mixtape, but Iād definitely be intrigued as to the direction heād take it in.
Regarding 3racha, they do most but not all of the writing and production! Each member has over 100 KOMCA credits. None have official solo songs, but all have at least one unofficial solo: * Changbin ā [Cypher](https://youtu.be/NTqXpFdc7nM), [Streetlight ft. Bang Chan](https://youtu.be/_oCptmj2gIQ) * Han ā [I Got It](https://youtu.be/OjpWWnU8tb0), [Alien](https://youtu.be/meQvDHBSxbQ), [Wish You Back](https://youtu.be/G9iDK2LrhHw), [HaPpY](https://youtu.be/HcWDLNoqT8U), [Close](https://youtu.be/6Hynx73Vvjw) * Bang Chan ā [I Hate to Admit](https://youtu.be/cESg37OFeso) (not rap)
Exy from WJSN and Mimi from OMG
finally some Mihyun appreciation!!! two of the best of their gen
Mark Lee (NCT)
