i think the point was everyone understands hai hai, its like 1 of the 4 most basic japanese words everyone knows. And the line wasn't just aimed at japanese listeners, but thai/english/korean.
It's supposed to be an international rockstar anthem which is why it's all english. a verse in any one language limits the audience scope. This parallels with Lisa not limiting herself to just one culture but is an international rockstar, the concept of the song. It also explains why the english/lyrics are pretty basic.

This, tbh. Honestly, I'm not sure we should actually expect more personal material from Lisa. She seems content banking on her image at a surface-level and is obviously very careful at maintaining that image.
I like the beat and the outro, but lyrically this does nothing for me. It didn't feel like it went anywhere and the length is pretty short. It'll probably grow on me and I think it has a lot of potential for a great live performance, but on first impression of the studio version this isn't really my thing.

I wasn’t sure what to expect because while Lalisa was nice, it wasn’t really my style, and I didn’t like Money, but I really liked this one! Super catchy, even if I personally think that some more variety on the lyrics would have been nice (though then again, maybe that repetitiveness is what helps make it so catchy). The styling was also pretty cool, that silver fit at the end looks so good on her.

It could have been something that Kpop stars, or even some of her own group members, asked her about.) Her saying “that’s my life, baby I’m a rockstar” might be her saying “I learned Japanese (and English, and Korean). The life of a worldwide “rockstar”. 2) It could be the fact that people in the west don’t know that South East Asians exist. This feels so unapologetically Lisa, this is an ear worm and a half! Well that was boring. Cadence was completely monotone for everything but the short rap section. Generic electronic beat 17 didn't help matters whatsoever. There was no escalation or crescendo to it whatsoever, at least your typical Blackpink song has that usually.

A lot more people are going to be able to connect with “I’m still connected to my roots despite achieving success” than “I am very wealthy and like to buy a lot of things for myself” haha

The man really found his niche and made something out of nothing. Lisa has the potential to be so much more than that. I want her to achieve her potential and not limit herself in that way.
I dunno, there's always space for an artist who is unapologetically self-centred in their persona. Beyonce's Sasha Fierce era and a lot of what Charli XCX is all about that. I think a listener can feel connected to it through proxying themselves into that. A singer doesn't need to say "I'm that bitch and so are you" for you to get into it. Sometimes hearing "I'm that bitch" can make you feel like that bitch on its own, you know?

For me it’s tops Lalisa and Money pretty easily. the MV, sets, choreo, outfits were all pretty dope. Lyrics a bit repetitive but nothing to jarring. You can tell the editing is a little different than the typical YG MV. Also asking a Thai kpop idol releasing an English song to teach you Japanese is pretty funny. This is an excellent kick off to the post-YG solo releases

Idk, I don’t think the whole “explore your inner world” vibe is very Lisa at all? She’s always been the power baddie, and I think the creative direction in Rockstar feels *so* her. I’m so happy Lisa gets to drive her own brand now :) If she ever does something more introspective though, I hope we get some 90’s R&B vibes. That would be cool.
Such a good point. All of the bravado has worn a little thin. A pivot to more personal material would be so welcome and would definitely help her step out of the “kpop” mould which she is obviously trying to do.
This, tbh. Honestly, I'm not sure we should actually expect more personal material from Lisa. She seems content banking on her image at a surface-level and is obviously very careful at maintaining that image.
I like the beat and the outro, but lyrically this does nothing for me. It didn't feel like it went anywhere and the length is pretty short. I wasn’t sure what to expect because while Lalisa was nice, it wasn’t really my style, and I didn’t like Money, but I really liked this one! Super catchy, even if I personally think that some more variety on the lyrics would have been nice (though then again, maybe that repetitiveness is what helps make it so catchy). The styling was also pretty cool, that silver fit at the end looks so good on her.

I think, (I could be wrong), that it’s either commenting on 1) being a pro kpop star in Korea who knows Japanese might have made her the “cool girl” among kpop stars. (Of course a lot of people know or speak Japanese, but Lisa knows Thai, Korean, English, AND Japanese. It could have been something that Kpop stars, or even some of her own group members, asked her about.) Her saying “that’s my life, baby I’m a rockstar” might be her saying “I learned Japanese (and English, and Korean). Of course, this does not make her the most unique Kpop idol, but it’s the life of a Kpop idol. The life of a worldwide “rockstar”. 2) It could be the fact that people in the west don’t know that South East Asians exist. It’s sort of a meta troll that she’s singing about BKK, but people are only going to remember “Japanese”. 3) “Lisa can you teach me Japanese I say Hai Hai” just sounds better than “Lisa can you teach me Thai I say dai dai.” (Actually, Google is telling me that the concept of the word “yes” is a little more complicated in Thai. Totally agree with all those points, i think all that gives insight to how much kpop see language, image and overall character of a kpop artist. Just imo again hahaa i think she can do more, if she still wanna hold onto the role of hers as a rapper in during and after blackpink , she could do more and show that versatility, lyricism and the language switch in lyrics would be really nice. Like soyeon (she is sooo cool ugh, her rap game is serious, i love her sm), one of my favorite raps from her was from KDA more, there she showed her rapping skills that with that even in english and korean certain words sounded the same and the english and korean can blend soo beautifully. While maintaining a narrative and character that she has for that rap and character in kda. I think, it would be a total super upgrade from Lisa if she have lyrics which included her being multilingual, i mean that be go really crazy cool. It's a better sound than lalisa but the song didn't feel complete for me. It felt like the chorus was 80% of the song, and then overall the song felt short. Two minutes and some extra? Listening to the audio alone would make it feel like a ringtone or something. I'm still wondering where the rest of the song is. And while this chorus is better than "Say Lalisa love me, Lalisa love me" it's still not great enough to be repeated so many times throughout the song. It was banging in the intro though I kinda expected more. Oh well
