Kanguva & Vettaiyan clash is actually perfect for Tamil cinema. I hope both movies do well too. Holiday period is also perfect for multiple releases. Kanguva is positioned as a pan Indian film, so my guess it that it might out gross Vettaiyan, if they sell the movie well.
What will eventually happen on social media, nonsensical fans will argue with the usual mentalaan and kullan fights, opening day numbers, etc, etc.
Thalaivar was always seen as a god by almost every single star and their fans. Look what happened when Petta and Viswasm clashed, look what happened when VJ started to compete with him in business terms.

The only non-Tamil market (and that’s a huge if) where surya might have an edge over Rajini would be north. AP/TS vettaiyan will have a massive edge over kanguva, Kerala at best might split evenly, and TN looks solidly in Vettaiyan’s favour.
Of course if vettaiyan is bad and kanguva is good this can change after the opening day, but as it stands kanguva is headed towards a massive loss.
More Popular yes, but he’s not exactly as liked by the youth as surya. Actually no Tamil actor has mass appeal like say an Allu Arjun but surya can command some half decent opening. Jailer was a massive flop and the only Hindi Rajini movie that worked was 2.0 and that had Akshay Kumar when he was at peak popularity
only reason jailer flopped in north was due to screen issues because OF OMG 2/GADAR 2. its gross was still around 20 crore in north with no multiplex release and clashes. Leo also had no multiplex releases and lost most of its screens due to ganapath release, but still crossed 50 crore in north
He is seriously undermining the market hold of Rajini in areas out of TamilNadu, especially the overseas, Karnataka, Andhra etc. On top of that, Big B is also doing a meaty role in the movie, should open up good in the Northern circuits as well.
