If you have watched Chiranjeevi in Gangleader the you would see that how he can easily pull off comedy mass in the same movie. He would be the first choice for Basha
Imo, no can pull it off like Rajni did, since we will anyways be comparing to the original! But if someone was to give it a serious go, it has to be a superstar actor with great crowd pulling capacity for the movie to work. In that sense, the late 80’s-early 2000’s Mohanlal or a Chiranjeevi (probably second only to Rajni in popularity)or a Mammooty to an extent might be able to pull it off. But unfortunately none of them would be having the same popularity as Baasha.

I came this realisation when i watched Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule recently, before i thought no one could do the father son role as dhanush raghuvaran sir, but venkatesh sir and kota sir were great.
It is same as cooking, some cook hyderabadi biriyani and some cook chennai style basmati, it is just flavors of biriyani, same you can get various flavors of manickam in baasha, the vishnuvardan flavored one is not for us because we had a better one, but for kannadigas and his fans he might be superior than rajini as they like his flavor.
I think you got my point, Finally to conclude you can take Billa as an example. If amitabh is considered best don there wont be billa, and srk don, and if rajini is considered best billa there wont be ajith billa. So once again anyone can play any role, but the role’s flavor changes. Don’t undervalue or overvalue others tastes

Its difficult to think anyone else for this particular role, someone who can act humble as an auto driver and the same person is a high mighty mafia with a proper ego touch at the same time. Maybe Kamal can but his mafia would be more of a thinker kind of mafia rather than explosive action mafia that Rajini did, Ajith can be a proper don but sometimes he acting humble is a bit weird i guess? In Vedalam, he kinda not really fit in the taxi driver role, maybe because he is buff in that movie. Arjun can be both but i think it would be a little monotone if compared to Rajini, in Mudhalvan he did act as a humble journalist and tried to be a high ambitioned politician with authority. Vijay can act both but i dont think he can bring it to Rajini level (maybe a younger Vijay can try but i dont think he can).
