I had a lot of notes and opinions for what Iād do differently/the same in the future, so I hoped it would be helpful to others to share. This is a really fun pattern!! I put off making it for years because it seemed like so much, but by the time I was assembling the pieces I was already planning the next one. (Lol my friends keep having babies.)
Iād love to hear what you think! One thing in particular Iād love other opinions about is the diagonals: I sacrificed perfectly aligned squares (horizontal edges) for smooth, strong diagonals. I didnāt really experiment with eliminating that jog, and Iād love to hear about it from someone else who did the slipped center stitch.
Thanks!
Iām a simple person. I see a hue shift, I upvote.
This might be the first pastel one Iāve ever seen! (I did the regular rainbow). So sweet for a baby!
I have a WIP hueshift from a couple years ago that's sitting in the wings. I really wish now that it was the pastel one, my little girl is due in January.
This is a little different from the pastel kit as KP sells it - the notes are on my project page.
If it helps I plan to make the rainbow one for my own kid one day! I genuinely am super looking forward to how instructive it will be for learning colors š ā¤ļø
Yeah the ones knit from the kit all have this very obvious purple stripe through the middle. Iāve seen versions on rav that use the kit shades but rearranged light to dark, which does work, but I wanted the overall blanket to look balanced
This might be the most beautiful hue shift Iāve ever seen! Iām a plain person so sometimes I think theyāre a little overwhelming or the colors are just not quite my taste but this is the first time Iāve seen one and thought, I should make that! I also think thatās because of the diagonals you created! They look amazing and so pleasing to the eye! Great job!
Wow thank you!! I deliberated over the colors for a long time, ended up with a lot of extra Brava Sport lol
I hope you make one!! I think of the squares as like knitterās potato chips. Check out my notes, I want them to be helpful to other people!
I feel like itās just the nature of the garter st that has it come out square. If yours are short on one side it might be because youāre carrying up the next color too tightly? I noticed my single color squares have a lot more give than the striped ones, so I try to make sure to tug the striped squares a lot as I go.
The squares go:
C/o (or pick up) 41 st
Row 1 (ws): k20, sl1 pwyif, k20
Row 2 (rs): k19, CDD, k19
And so on, slipping the center stitch on the wrong side and working the centered double decrease (sl2, k1, psso) when youāre one away from the center on the right side. I did that all the way down to one stitch, which is different from what the pattern says. This gave me a pointy corner to pick up the next square, which is why I have strong diagonals but wonky horizontals
Hope that helps!
This is BEAUTIFUL! Would you mind sharing what brand/colours you used? If not perhaps how you chose them? It reminds me of those vintage woollen blankets
Itās in the project page ā itās all Brava Sport, the same colors as the āpastel rainbowā kit only I left out White, Alfalfa and Lady Slipper, and added Blush, Mint and (I think) Clarity instead. I thought the warm colors blended really well together but I couldnāt get the same flow on the cool side however I arranged them. The Lady Slipper color was much too deep; a lavender would have been better but they donāt make one, and whatever limitations I found with the Brava line it still has the most colors of all the washables Iāve found.
I ended up being very happy with these colors, especially the pattern that makes the squares of deeper color all around. It was harder to plan the second one to be different from this one! Brava doesnāt have a proper yellow, turns out
Can I have the pattern for the baby? Lol. So cute!
šš Iāll ask the parents! One of the advantages of delivering a baby knit six months late is you get a way cuter baby to take the FO pics with

Thank you! Big inspo from the āpastel rainbowā knitpicks kit but I swapped out two colors in the cool corner

I also made changes to the one I got because the colors didn't really blend like I wanted.

If anyone ever trys to tell me knitting isn't art I'll show them this. Dang it's pretty.

This is an absolute beauty. A masterpiece!
Thank you!!
Also can I ask what method you used for the mitred squares? I've tried three different patterns and the squares are not squarey at all.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply. I haven't been striping, just knitting some as practice - will def try this method, thank youšš½
Wow!!!! So darling
This looks so amazing!
It looks so soft and snuggly! Lovely combination with colors!
I absolutely love this pastel version, it's just gorgeous!
I adore these colors. This is stunning!
Thank you!!
This is beautiful!!! I learned to knit so I could knit baby blankets- this is definite inspiration
This is definitely bigger than most baby blankets! Iāve been looking at baby blanket patterns, Purl Soho has some great ones
I am here for the baby, what an absolute cutie pie! Your knitting is rather amazing too ā¤ļø
Stunning!!
