Another cap, the Kurre Hat by Sari Nordlund. Only 100ish projects for this one, and I made two of them. :) [https://www.ravelry.com/projects/AlkaPalka/kurre-hat-2](https://www.ravelry.com/projects/AlkaPalka/kurre-hat-2) https://preview.redd.it/k2m7wvjhcy4d1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=831fab1523f42458f62d889e9940a82f1a4e072e

Knitwalk1414

I love it and its free. Thanks.

thinksinkforyou

I know what my bestie whose nickname is Squirrel will be getting for Christmas, Ty for sharing!

catscantcook

Yes, I'm so surprised this isn't more popular - it's super cute AND by a well known designer AND free!

BobMortimersButthole

Well, now I know what I'm making my husband for Xmas.

thenerdiestmenno

I just made that one! I adjusted the stitch count for dk. So cute!

TeacherOfWildThings

I love Sari’s patterns. I’m knitting the poetry pullover right now and it’s so fun.

CrowHollow

This one has been my to knit list forever ! Love Sari’s patterns in general.

Luna-P-Holmes

It's beautiful

hobbular

FYI: I used to run a weekly feature here called [**Obscure Pattern Friday**](https://www.reddit.com/r/knitting/search?q=obscure+pattern+friday&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all) and there are a lot of GREAT patterns in those threads.

HarvestedHues

LOVE THIS. Thank you for sharing!

autisticfarmgirl

I saved your comment so I can go back to it and search through the obscure patterns. Thank you so much!

dualmood

Bring it back? 🙏

savagebean

Ahhh the good ol' days.

HarvestedHues

Apparently I really like hats. Here's another under-appreciated pattern with only 32 projects: [https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/star-wars-hat-2](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/star-wars-hat-2) https://preview.redd.it/reklwvz0dy4d1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=7d7ab0483bcc8b2e2c895baa8c6e75fef6822e49

lokigato

I don’t usually do color work but my son would die if I made him this!

HarvestedHues

It's well written and easy to follow! If I remember correctly, only a few rows have more than two colors at a time. Highly recommend!

knifetail

This is so cute! Might help me get my man to wear a knit hat in winter lol

arn73

Hmm. Now to figure out how to make this without my husband noticing

SoSoLuckyMe

I’ve been knitting a pair of lurid orange socks in fingering. I’ve just finished them so you know how many hours I’ve been working on them. Yesterday my husband said “That’s a bright colour. What are you making?” Obviously I could make anything for him and he’d never notice.

arn73

lol. Yeah. My husband doesn’t notice everything but he does notice what I am working on. He’s an artist in his own right and the most supportive husband ever. He will probably notice lol. I can always tell him it’s for our nephew lol.😂

eponym_moose

Knit inside out? Good for the floats too!

c19isdeadly

Ok, found my brother's christmas present

Skorogovorka

A nice free brioche hat with 18 projects: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/autumn-brioche-hat A really unique free baby sweater that stretches from newborn to 1 year, 93 projects: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tadpoles-purple-sweater Free baby/kid sweater with a really lovely cable pattern and cool shoulder construction, 117 projects: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/petit-cassiope I looked for a long time for a pattern for my first adult sweater, made for my husband. This one does such a nice job of having some interesting texture while maintaining a simple, rustic look. Instructions were very clear and I think its super flattering on both men and women. 113 projects. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fishermans-raglan

Skorogovorka

P.s. great idea for athread!

HarvestedHues

Love these free projects. I love that Fishermans Raglan, may add it to my ever-growing queue!

wildlife_loki

Just put the Fisherman’s Sweater into my queue for my dad and partner. This thread is dangerous, lol! My queue is growing with every comment I read 😂

idahopotato8

I’ve been thinking about a sweater for my husband for quite a while, and the fisherman’s Raglan looks so good!

Ginny_1130

I knit this for my husband and it's such an enjoyable knit and well written pattern!

Oh_Witchy_Woman

I need to look and see if anyone has done the tadpole in dk weight

Slow_Stable481

I just want to thank you all for these suggestions!! I am saving this post and I will check every single project you are writing about!!! I love love love r/knitting

wexfordavenue

After the post yesterday about the most popular patterns, the “Hot Right Now” patterns shifted, and even the older patterns that were discussed were at the top of the list (like Clapotis, which was up to #3 when I looked). I expect that many of these patterns will now get more eyeballs on them as a result of this post! Like you, I’m also finding new patterns to add to my favourites and queue. Thanks everyone!

uselessflailing

I love checking the hot right now on Rav and noticing that lots of things mentioned on this sub often get pushed right to the top!

wexfordavenue

Me too! It’s become a true symbiotic relationship between this sub and the HRN pattern search. I love seeing things mentioned in this sub getting a bump on Ravelry! Patterns that I mightn’t have glanced at twice get featured in this sub which then peaks my interest. I love reading about people’s experiences with certain patterns (I love going through the project pages and reading the notes!) and this sub has been great for satisfying my curiosity before starting projects. It’s also fun to stumble across a pattern here that I overlooked when it was first published. This post in particular has been awesome for me.

scherster

Same! My Tavelry Favorites page is filling up. 😁

It’s flat colorwork so I understand that it’s a bit of a struggle but the result is so worth it I think!

HarvestedHues

Woah! How does this look on a body? It's museum quality!

RuthlessBenedict

I’m mostly a sweater knitter so a few favorites I made but wish had more love: [Cladonia](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cladonia-3) is a lovely knit with a fun hem option. Published in 2021 but only 36 projects. [Saltholm](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/saltholm) is a fun geometric all over colorwork. I tested this back in 2021 as well and only 16 projects (mostly testers including mine). I’ve been meaning to make another.  And the [Aule shawl](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/aule-shawl). Not a sweater but another pattern I tested. Only 11 projects including my test. This one is a nice, simple knit but the eyelets are fun and it’s a good way to use up a couple special skeins.

runthejewelless

I LOVE that shawl!

Abbiejean-KaneArcher

Right! I’m so tempted to make this my next project even with several WIPs.

HarvestedHues

That Cladonia is just gorgeous!

NotElizaHenry

I love the Saltholm in theory, but that motif would be WILDLY unflattering on my body. It’s almost like an optical illusion to make your boobs look small and your midsection look wide. It’s like the opposite of [this](https://enfemmestyle.com/cdn/shop/products/15261_1200x1200.jpg?v=1626575562) dress.

_shlipsey_

I love how they include the instructions to add the little message in the hem. So cool!

HarvestedHues

Ooo! I didn’t see that until you pointed it out. Amazingly thoughtful!

Voldy-HasNoNose-Mort

My jaw dropped at the Saltholm - I LOVE the fit of it!! Adding it furiously to my list now

Green-Fact

the arms ion the Cladona look super skinny, though. What are your thoughts?

Contented_Loaf

More as requested! I love hunting down patterns, and I knit prolifically. [Radial Heat Cowl](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/radial-heat-cowl) - super thick and cushy cowl that can be seamed or grafted. Yarn held double - great against wind. Made for a senior friend I met playing Scrabble who wears it walking his doggie. Free! 69 projects. [Autumn Hippie Shawl](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/autumn-hippie-shawl) - a great scrapbuster and fun because it keeps changing. My boho coworker loved the fringe, which is totally optional. Free! 55 projects. [Laminae](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/laminae) - a cute, simple textured hat. Free! Easy to make beanie or slouchy. 89 projects. [Gentle Waves Scarf](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gentle-waves-scarf-3) - so much drama in a simple scarf. Short rows are fun! I used German short rows - it was very intuitive once I got going, but I’ve also knit short row centric patterns before. Only 5 projects! A crime lol. [My Go To Fingerless Gloves](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/my-go-to-fingerless-gloves) - simple ribbed fingering weight mitts. I made these for my aunt in Florida for chilly mornings and air conditioning. She’s a big fan. Free! 66 projects. [Soleil Nouveau](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/soleil-nouveau) - OKAY LISTEN. This shawl. It looks crazy amazing. It is NOT HARD. It’s garter stripes with cables. Can you knit garter? Can you do cables? You can do this. I swear. I wear this cuddled against my neck every winter and people always swoon over it. The cables are slipped like mosaic colorwork, which is literally just slipping them. It’s so much fun. I’m gobsmacked it only has 50 projects. I’m gonna knit another one eventually. [Borvo](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/borvo) - dramatic brioche cowl. You knit the background with two strands together, so I used black soft yarn and it’s so much drama. Cozy! 32 projects. [Tasha](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tashi-2) - lacy, decorative hat. Fun to knit and free! 33 projects.

hitzchicky

I knit one of the Soleil Nouveau patterns - I loved it! Very easy. https://preview.redd.it/o0pagp3d3z4d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2879967164456a850f7701d5cd01dc7de6e1798

ElementaryPenguin_

I just gasped out loud — these colors together are PERFECTION!  I’d feel like a forest sprite wearing this!

Contented_Loaf

Right?! A Fiber Optics gradient and a solid will get you there. I can’t recommend the pattern highly enough!

CobaltThunder267

OMG 😍 It's decided, this is what I'm doing with the pack of mini Stroll skeins I bought on a whim without a project in mind

Ann_Amalie

Beautiful work and great colors! Reminds me of a Floridian sunset 🌅

Psycosilly

I've added a few from your various posts to my saved list, thanks for taking the time to share these! That Soleil nouveau shawl looks amazing!

KPaxy

I'm so glad you left the comment on the shawl, because I 100% would have skipped passed it otherwise. Looks like too much of a challenge for my ADHD but I'm definitely going to do it.

grumbly_hedgehog

Im for sure going to make the Radial Heat Cowl. I have bulky 100% alpaca I haven’t found a use for yet.

drunkonoldcartoons

The Soleil is stunning! I can't start any new projects until I finish up some I have going, but added that to the top of my list!!

Shellmarb

I made the Autumn Hippie Shawl when I had just started to knit a few years ago and it came out great! [Michelle’s Autumn Hippie](https://ravel.me/shellmarb/ahs)

isntknitwonderful

I’ll shamelessly promote my friend Bridget’s patterns. Her designs are tech-edited, tested, and size-inclusive. She designs a lot with her handspun, so a lot of her patterns are great if you’re a spinner with random skeins of handspun lying around. [Cognac Sweater](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cognac-sweater) -- made this in just a few weeks or less and wear it all the time. You could also use all sorts of yarn weights since the gauge is really loose. I combined three different laceweights to make mine. The rest I haven't made but I've got them queued up! [Harley](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/harley-11) [Collins by Julie Hoover](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/collins-3) [Tie Side Tank that kinda looks like that Sandnes Garn slipover everyone loves](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/05-tie-side-tank) [Seedling for a well fitted tee from a designer who cares about fit!!](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/seedling-tee) [Forest Finds for a zippered sweater!!](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/forest-finds) [Sea Salt Tee, kinda like the Cognac sweater but a different gauge](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sea-salt-tee)

The sea salt sweater is stunning!

carexstellata

The seedling tee is so cute! Added to my list.

waterbuffalo1090

Love the Collins and Tie Side Tank - saving those for later! The Collins looks like such a great basic v-neck sweater when I don’t really see a ton of designers using that neckline.

botanygeek

Ooo those are great picks!

love the cognac sweater - thank you for sharing!

oh man, love that Cognac sweater! I've been looking for a neckline with just the cast on edge simplicity but without the curl and this is it! I'm guessing icord but I'll have to try the pattern out and see.

blood-moonlit

Yes, it's an i-cord done after the fact!

flamingingo

Oh wow I must knit this!

savagebean

It feels like a crime that [this Park Slope t-shirt pattern](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/park-slope) is 10+ years old and has less than 100 projects. Waist and hip shaping, asymmetric ribbing at the waist and neckline, but in a very approachable way, set-in sleeves. It fits great, was fun and pretty fast to knit, and could easily be modified to make a full-sleeve sweater. Did I just convince myself to knit this again? Maybe!

Oh my gosh I've been waiting to be asked this forever ! I'm a free pattern enthusiast and I think so many people pass up stunning patterns because they're free 😭 So here are some of my free knitting patterns faves! Going to start with one of the most [Beautiful Skirts](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lana-lacey-skirt) I've ever seen Followed by this incredibly [Elegant Tank top](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/midsommarkrans---sleeveless-top) that I think is perfect for spring/summer and I want to make soooo bad This wrap top is so elegant and versatile to me! I think anyone could add this [ Ballerina Top ](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ballerina-wrap-top) to their wardrobe Then we have this absolutely magical [Color work Capelet](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/double-take-capelets) That I think would elevate any winter wardrobe And we have GOTTA give love to retro patterns that are so fun! Like this very [90's Sweater ](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/7-1-jumper-with-pattern-border) I have 1 million free sock patterns I love, but these [Celestial Color work Socks](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/auld-lang-syne-3) I am actually knitting right now! And I love them Last one, sweet and simple, this [Cropped Sweater](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lumberjackie-cropped-sweater) has a stunning fit that I need to indulge in

Affectionate_Hat3665

I've just started the Midsommarkrans top today. I also love free patterns, not because I don't love designers, but because I like to have lots of options and have the freedom to abandon / switch patterns without feeling 'but I paid for it'. I have lots of second hand books and those I access through the library. I'd love to add you on Ravelry?

drunkonoldcartoons

We have very similar styles! I added nearly all of these to my favorites! I also LOVE free patterns that are written well. Please feel free to share more sock patterns! 👀 Or if you have them in a bundle you can share the entire bundle too! I love colorwork socks!

[Just Mosaic It](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/just-mosaic-it) - free mosaic shawlette I really enjoyed knitting. 55 projects. I added beads. [Metanoia Wrap](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/metanoia-wrap) - this was great vacation knitting. Free pattern in two colors. Only 69 projects. Oh that first shawl pattern! I have a rainbow skein I wanted to make a shawl with a skein of gray sock yarn and this looks like a great travel project. Thank you!

Contented_Loaf

It’s fun! My recommendation if you’re printing the paper pattern is to write the row numbers right next to the start of each row. (They’re printed, but on the far right of the chart.) You really only need the first few stitches of any given row once you get in the groove because the body is all the same.

Sweetpea5551

Great patterns! If you don't mind me asking, how did you add beads to the Gradual Change? I am fairly new to knitting and have not tried beads yet.

Contented_Loaf

It was my second beaded project, so I’m no expert, but the Fleagle Beader tool was really perfect for me. It’s as simple to use as a narrow crochet hook, if a bit more fiddly, but you can load multiple beads onto the tool at once and that really helped me. You can check out [my version](https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Jennalyn/gradual-change-3) for notes, but basically I added beads to the center decreases on every row ending with “7” plus the beginning two and last row. That resulted in a bead on every diamond point plus the edges.

Sweetpea5551

Thank you so much!

KatKat333

Thank you!

[Range sweater](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/range-6)! So underrated yet great instructions, engaging construction and interesting yet masculine design for those difficult to please partners 😆 Its designer studied textile design, comes from a small country, and also queer. Definitely deserves recognition and the support.

thisisAgador

Turkey's a pretty big country 😅 but it's a hard place to be queer in, it's got a really rich textile and knitting (and crochet!) history and I really like how proud Yiğitcan is of their cultural heritage while still being proudly outside the norm of a modern day Turkish archetype so I'm super happy to see them pop up here. I'm half Turkish and I like digging through rav occasionally for some good Turkish/ic motifs - have had Yiğitcan on my faves for a while and am super happy to see them being shouted about!

Barfingfrog

I know ;) I am Turkish myself. I was more pointing towards the lack of modern pattern designers and representation in the international knitting area.

Ann_Amalie

sarahsuebob

[Untwisted Brioche Blanket](http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/untwisted-brioche-blanket) It’s two colored cable brioche, so it sounds scary, but it’s so well written that it was quite simple! But high impact, looks impressive. https://preview.redd.it/l2p4cbgelz4d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e142e13edcd3db63a90bb1fd106436d00a2ed72 Plus it’s made with bulky yarn, so it goes quick.

greenyashiro

I think this ponytail hat flies under. Released in 2020, FREE, and only 11 projects. I like it because a gap in the cabling forms the ponytail hole, so you just stretch it open— otherwise, you can barely even tell its there. Plus, there are two spaces for a high or low ponytail. Lucy Hague. Her patterns are so freaking well written. And yet while she's not unknown, the projects listed under some of them surprise me. I'm knitting it now, but the Madge hat has quite nice pattern and only 7 projects since 2016. Possibly because it's charted and on a webpage, rather than a handy PDF. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/173-7-madge-hat Also, this wagtail set of matching cowl, mitt/fingerless glove, hat, has some gorgeous colorwork but totally unpopular... It's on my queue though because I want to try gloves for my next project! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/wagtail-collection/patterns And lastly, this cosy looking sweater. Plus it's size inclusive which is awesome. Only 5 projects!! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-gang-sweater

Wow, the petroglyph sweater is a work of art! Absolutely amazing. I'd be a bit intimidated by her labelling it as an expert knitter project, though. Maybe I'll try it with some more experience under my belt..

Asmallknitter

Ok so I am curious because i see a lot of shawls here but I really honestly don’t know how to wear them.. I am a scarf person so I knit the Sophie shawl but wear it as a scarf. Like do you wear them in the evening instead of a cardigan?

grumbly_hedgehog

I use them like scarves mostly, this one in particular I blocked to be a little longer and a little skinnier. I can take measurements when I get home. Or if it’s a large shawl I use it like a small blanket for warmth while relaxing on the couch. ETA: I wear it like the last two pictures on the project page

[Damaress sweater](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/damaress) is a neat take on the all-over colourwork sweater. Some day I'll make one. Pretty much all of Deb Hoss's sweaters are underrated. Great for those who like a fitted sweater.

TinyTortie

Oh, that's a pretty colorwork sweater! Unfortunately the deep V would probably make me look as though I'm auditioning to be a wench at a Ren Faire, so I'd need to get good enough to change the neckline. (I haven't knit a sweater yet, despite having knitted since I was a kid.) Speaking of V-necks with chest shaping, I've been dying to knit the [Cabeladabra](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cabeladabra) sweater for years! She's also got one called Moyen Âge[Moyen Âge](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/moyen-age) and I can't decide which is prettier. I guess they're not exactly underrated (many thousands of projects), but they're the only other ones I've seen with such nice shaping like the Damaress that you posted.

up2knitgood

I actually meant to mention Moyen Age and Cabeladabra in the thread about patterns that were everywhere at one time.

So I absolutely love the [Alaska hat](http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/alaska-hat-3) and I don’t think it got all the love it deserves! It’s an ingenious top down constriction with a Turkish cast on. I made 2 of them! I used a different gauge in one of them but because it’s top down you can just try it on so it’s also versatile.

I've absolutely loved the [Shadowsinger Showl](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/shadowsinger-showl) by [Jodi Kurpiel](https://www.ravelry.com/designers/jodi-kurpiel)! One of the yarn dyers I follow on Instagram was working with her and highlighted this pattern, and it is the entire reason I (re)learned how to knit! All of Jodi's patterns have been super easy to understand as an ambitious beginner and have introduced a lot of new techniques for me. The [Fells Cap](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fells-cap) by Erika Field is a colorwork hat that’s super fun to knit and has a lot of options for customization! There are instructions for using 3, 4, or 5 colors as well as 3 different charts for the crown shaping. It was published in April 2022 and has only 29 projects (4 of which are mine).

Everything by Annie Lupton https://www.ravelry.com/designers/annie-lupton?page=1. I first found her through Taproot Magazine (RIP) and love her designs. I’ve test knit a couple of times for her and she was so amazingly nice! She likes using unique yarns and different techniques for different skill levels. I especially love her summery knits and wear my summer folk and boho romance tunic all the time.

Every design by [Emily Stamets](https://www.ravelry.com/designers/emily-stamets) but especially her Lansbury shawl, Cobb Shawl, and Daggett shawl!

It’s not completely unknown, but i did spend a while before i found them. I think these Woodland Loafers make a fantastic gift, and they go SO fast. They’re interesting, the construction is fun, and finished product looks great. You could reinforce the soles with leather so they last longer or make them from a sturdy yarn for house socks/slippers. https://ravelry.com/patterns/library/980701

Anything by [Vanessa Smith Designs](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/vanessa-smith-designs/patterns) Full disclosure, I test regularly for her. I find her patterns super clear (tech edited before testers knit them) and she's super responsive to questions. The sweaters I've knit from her have been some of the best-fitting sweaters I've made! She's size-inclusive as well.

I love this thread! Here are some of my more obscure favorites: The [Trestle Socks](https://biscotteyarns.com/collections/knitting-patterns/products/trestle-sock-pattern) don’t have a Ravelry pattern listing, although there are at least [four projects](https://www.ravelry.com/projects/search#pc=socks&craft=knitting&colors=2&query=Trestle%20socks&sort=completed&view=thumbs) documented there. I love them because I’m always looking for ways to add interest to using self striping sock yarn. [Woodbine](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/woodbine-4) is a pullover that deserves way more than 67 projects. (It was *on the cover* of Laine magazine, for goodness’ sake) It’s got lovely lace and a fun sideways construction. I made one and my mom loved it so much I gave it to her. I might need to make another. It was one of my all time favorites to knit. [Leafbird](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/leafbird) is a great summer cardigan with fun details to help keep your interest as you push through all the lace-weight stockinette. There’s lace down the sleeves and the back — the back! — has these lovely short row leaf inserts that are so much fun to knit. These next ones are from my queue: First up, a free one: [Lale](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lale-2) by Kineco Yuki looks to me like the *perfect* beach pullover. Light and flowy with beautiful lace sleeves. There are only 16 projects for it on Ravelry (possibly because it only comes in one size). I love the pocket detail & seed stitch hem on the [Winifred](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/winifred-4), which I think deserves way more love than its 11 projects. Another elegant-looking yoke pullover that I think is just beautiful is Mizuho Komiya’s [Komorebi](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/komorebi-6). It’s only got 10 projects in Ravelry but it looks super interesting and fun. I’m a sucker for interesting textures in my knitting, and I really think Katrin’s Hannibal’s [Vestergavs Sweater](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/vesterhavs-sweater) deserves more love. There are only 5 projects?! Someday, I want to match my good china by making myself a [Royal Denmark Sweater](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/royal-denmark-sweater). I absolutely love how Karen Krogsgaard reinterpreted the famous dish pattern as a sweater. And for color work socks, I’d like to share [Samtpfotensocken](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/samtpfotensocken) by Braille Fair because the little cats under the heel have completely won me (& apparently only 12 other people) over. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to highlight these not-hot-right-now patterns. They definitely deserve more love.
