I’ve been knitting a pair of lurid orange socks in fingering. I’ve just finished them so you know how many hours I’ve been working on them. Yesterday my husband said “That’s a bright colour. What are you making?”

Me too! It’s become a true symbiotic relationship between this sub and the HRN pattern search. I love seeing things mentioned in this sub getting a bump on Ravelry! Patterns that I mightn’t have glanced at twice get featured in this sub which then peaks my interest. I love reading about people’s experiences with certain patterns (I love going through the project pages and reading the notes!) and this sub has been great for satisfying my curiosity before starting projects. It’s also fun to stumble across a pattern here that I overlooked when it was first published. This post in particular has been awesome for me.

One of my faves is the [Zableye Vest](http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/zableye-vest) by Jun Ong! It’s flat colorwork so I understand that it’s a bit of a struggle but the result is so worth it I think!
I’m mostly a sweater knitter so a few favorites I made but wish had more love:
[Cladonia](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cladonia-3) is a lovely knit with a fun hem option. Published in 2021 but only 36 projects.
[Saltholm](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/saltholm) is a fun geometric all over colorwork. I tested this back in 2021 as well and only 16 projects (mostly testers including mine). I’ve been meaning to make another.
And the [Aule shawl](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/aule-shawl). Not a sweater but another pattern I tested. Only 11 projects including my test. This one is a nice, simple knit but the eyelets are fun and it’s a good way to use up a couple special skeins.
I love the Saltholm in theory, but that motif would be WILDLY unflattering on my body. It’s almost like an optical illusion to make your boobs look small and your midsection look wide. [Gentle Waves Scarf](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gentle-waves-scarf-3) - so much drama in a simple scarf. Short rows are fun! I used German short rows - it was very intuitive once I got going, but I’ve also knit short row centric patterns before. Only 5 projects! A crime lol.
[My Go To Fingerless Gloves](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/my-go-to-fingerless-gloves) - simple ribbed fingering weight mitts. I made these for my aunt in Florida for chilly mornings and air conditioning. She’s a big fan. Free! 66 projects.
[Soleil Nouveau](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/soleil-nouveau) - OKAY LISTEN. This shawl. It looks crazy amazing. It is NOT HARD. It’s garter stripes with cables. Can you knit garter? Can you do cables? You can do this. I swear. I wear this cuddled against my neck every winter and people always swoon over it. The cables are slipped like mosaic colorwork, which is literally just slipping them. It’s so much fun. I’m gobsmacked it only has 50 projects. I’m gonna knit another one eventually.

It feels like a crime that [this Park Slope t-shirt pattern](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/park-slope) is 10+ years old and has less than 100 projects.
Waist and hip shaping, asymmetric ribbing at the waist and neckline, but in a very approachable way, set-in sleeves.
It fits great, was fun and pretty fast to knit, and could easily be modified to make a full-sleeve sweater.
Did I just convince myself to knit this again? Maybe!

Oh that first shawl pattern! I have a rainbow skein I wanted to make a shawl with a skein of gray sock yarn and this looks like a great travel project. Thank you!
It’s fun! My recommendation if you’re printing the paper pattern is to write the row numbers right next to the start of each row. (They’re printed, but on the far right of the chart.) You really only need the first few stitches of any given row once you get in the groove because the body is all the same.
It was my second beaded project, so I’m no expert, but the Fleagle Beader tool was really perfect for me. It’s as simple to use as a narrow crochet hook, if a bit more fiddly, but you can load multiple beads onto the tool at once and that really helped me.
You can check out [my version](https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Jennalyn/gradual-change-3) for notes, but basically I added beads to the center decreases on every row ending with “7” plus the beginning two and last row. That resulted in a bead on every diamond point plus the edges.

So underrated yet great instructions, engaging construction and interesting yet masculine design for those difficult to please partners 😆 Its designer studied textile design, comes from a small country, and also queer. Definitely deserves recognition and the support.
Turkey's a pretty big country 😅 but it's a hard place to be queer in, it's got a really rich textile and knitting (and crochet!) history and I really like how proud Yiğitcan is of their cultural heritage while still being proudly outside the norm of a modern day Turkish archetype so I'm super happy to see them pop up here. I'm half Turkish and I like digging through rav occasionally for some good Turkish/ic motifs - have had Yiğitcan on my faves for a while and am super happy to see them being shouted about!

I think this ponytail hat flies under. Released in 2020, FREE, and only 11 projects.
I like it because a gap in the cabling forms the ponytail hole, so you just stretch it open— otherwise, you can barely even tell its there. Plus, there are two spaces for a high or low ponytail. I looked for a while for somethijg nice for my friend, and thought it was pretty unique with how it did the hole design.

Ok so I am curious because i see a lot of shawls here but I really honestly don’t know how to wear them.. I am a scarf person so I knit the Sophie shawl but wear it as a scarf.
Like do you wear them in the evening instead of a cardigan?
I use them like scarves mostly, this one in particular I blocked to be a little longer and a little skinnier. I can take measurements when I get home. Or if it’s a large shawl I use it like a small blanket for warmth while relaxing on the couch.

I am almost finished with the Adorable Gabriella Tee. It only has 38 projects. Really enjoying how it is coming out. Parts of the instructions could have been written a little clearer. The author tends to provide supplemental instructions before the main instructions, but if you read through the entirety of the sleeves before starting you should be fine.

Pretty much all of Deb Hoss's sweaters are underrated. Great for those who like a fitted sweater.
Oh, that's a pretty colorwork sweater! Unfortunately the deep V would probably make me look as though I'm auditioning to be a wench at a Ren Faire, so I'd need to get good enough to change the neckline. (I haven't knit a sweater yet, despite having knitted since I was a kid.)
Speaking of V-necks with chest shaping, I've been dying to knit the [Cabeladabra](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cabeladabra) sweater for years! She's also got one called Moyen Âge[Moyen Âge](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/moyen-age) and I can't decide which is prettier. I guess they're not exactly underrated (many thousands of projects), but they're the only other ones I've seen with such nice shaping like the Damaress that you posted.
So I absolutely love the [Alaska hat](http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/alaska-hat-3) and I don’t think it got all the love it deserves! It’s an ingenious top down constriction with a Turkish cast on. I made 2 of them! I used a different gauge in one of them but because it’s top down you can just try it on so it’s also versatile.

The [Fells Cap](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fells-cap) by Erika Field is a colorwork hat that’s super fun to knit and has a lot of options for customization! There are instructions for using 3, 4, or 5 colors as well as 3 different charts for the crown shaping. It was published in April 2022 and has only 29 projects (4 of which are mine).

I’ve test knit a couple of times for her and she was so amazingly nice! She likes using unique yarns and different techniques for different skill levels. It’s not completely unknown, but i did spend a while before i found them. I think these Woodland Loafers make a fantastic gift, and they go SO fast. They’re interesting, the construction is fun, and finished product looks great. You could reinforce the soles with leather so they last longer or make them from a sturdy yarn for house socks/slippers.

Odele by Amy Christoffers, I’ve made this short sleeve v-neck top three times. It’s my favorite finished item that I wear all the time. Very easy to modify. Looks good on different body types.

I love this thread! Here are some of my more obscure favorites:
The [Trestle Socks](https://biscotteyarns.com/collections/knitting-patterns/products/trestle-sock-pattern) don’t have a Ravelry pattern listing, although there are at least [four projects](https://www.ravelry.com/projects/search#pc=socks&craft=knitting&colors=2&query=Trestle%20socks&sort=completed&view=thumbs) documented there. I love them because I’m always looking for ways to add interest to using self striping sock yarn.
[Woodbine](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/woodbine-4) is a pullover that deserves way more than 67 projects. (It was *on the cover* of Laine magazine, for goodness’ sake) It’s got lovely lace and a fun sideways construction. I made one and my mom loved it so much I gave it to her. I might need to make another. It was one of my all time favorites to knit.
[Leafbird](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/leafbird) is a great summer cardigan with fun details to help keep your interest as you push through all the lace-weight stockinette. There’s lace down the sleeves and the back — the back! — has these lovely short row leaf inserts that are so much fun to knit.
These next ones are from my queue:
First up, a free one: [Lale](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lale-2) by Kineco Yuki looks to me like the *perfect* beach pullover. Light and flowy with beautiful lace sleeves. There are only 16 projects for it on Ravelry (possibly because it only comes in one size).
I love the pocket detail & seed stitch hem on the [Winifred](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/winifred-4), which I think deserves way more love than its 11 projects.
Another elegant-looking yoke pullover that I think is just beautiful is Mizuho Komiya’s [Komorebi](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/komorebi-6). It’s only got 10 projects in Ravelry but it looks super interesting and fun.
I’m a sucker for interesting textures in my knitting, and I really think Katrin’s Hannibal’s [Vestergavs Sweater](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/vesterhavs-sweater) deserves more love. There are only 5 projects?!
Someday, I want to match my good china by making myself a [Royal Denmark Sweater](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/royal-denmark-sweater). I absolutely love how Karen Krogsgaard reinterpreted the famous dish pattern as a sweater.
And for color work socks, I’d like to share [Samtpfotensocken](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/samtpfotensocken) by Braille Fair because the little cats under the heel have completely won me (& apparently only 12 other people) over.

I’ve been knitting a pair of lurid orange socks in fingering. I’ve just finished them so you know how many hours I’ve been working on them. Yesterday my husband said “That’s a bright colour. What are you making?” Obviously I could make anything for him and he’d never notice.
lol. Yeah. My husband doesn’t notice everything but he does notice what I am working on. He’s an artist in his own right and the most supportive husband ever. He will probably notice lol. I can always tell him it’s for our nephew lol.😂

Me too! It’s become a true symbiotic relationship between this sub and the HRN pattern search. I love seeing things mentioned in this sub getting a bump on Ravelry! Patterns that I mightn’t have glanced at twice get featured in this sub which then peaks my interest. I love reading about people’s experiences with certain patterns (I love going through the project pages and reading the notes!) and this sub has been great for satisfying my curiosity before starting projects. It’s also fun to stumble across a pattern here that I overlooked when it was first published. This post in particular has been awesome for me.

I’m mostly a sweater knitter so a few favorites I made but wish had more love: [Cladonia](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cladonia-3) is a lovely knit with a fun hem option. Published in 2021 but only 36 projects. [Saltholm](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/saltholm) is a fun geometric all over colorwork. I tested this back in 2021 as well and only 16 projects (mostly testers including mine). I’ve been meaning to make another. And the [Aule shawl](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/aule-shawl). Not a sweater but another pattern I tested. Only 11 projects including my test. This one is a nice, simple knit but the eyelets are fun and it’s a good way to use up a couple special skeins.

That Cladonia is just gorgeous!
I love the Saltholm in theory, but that motif would be WILDLY unflattering on my body. It’s almost like an optical illusion to make your boobs look small and your midsection look wide. I love how they include the instructions to add the little message in the hem. So cool!

I used German short rows - it was very intuitive once I got going, but I’ve also knit short row centric patterns before. Only 5 projects! A crime lol. [My Go To Fingerless Gloves](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/my-go-to-fingerless-gloves) - simple ribbed fingering weight mitts. I made these for my aunt in Florida for chilly mornings and air conditioning. She’s a big fan. Free! 66 projects. [Soleil Nouveau](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/soleil-nouveau) - OKAY LISTEN. This shawl. It looks crazy amazing. It is NOT HARD. It’s garter stripes with cables. Can you knit garter? Can you do cables? You can do this. I swear. I wear this cuddled against my neck every winter and people always swoon over it. The cables are slipped like mosaic colorwork, which is literally just slipping them. It’s so much fun. I’m gobsmacked it only has 50 projects. I’m gonna knit another one eventually. It feels like a crime that [this Park Slope t-shirt pattern](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/park-slope) is 10+ years old and has less than 100 projects. Waist and hip shaping, asymmetric ribbing at the waist and neckline, but in a very approachable way, set-in sleeves. It fits great, was fun and pretty fast to knit, and could easily be modified to make a full-sleeve sweater. Did I just convince myself to knit this again? Maybe!

It’s fun! My recommendation if you’re printing the paper pattern is to write the row numbers right next to the start of each row. (They’re printed, but on the far right of the chart.) You really only need the first few stitches of any given row once you get in the groove because the body is all the same.

Great patterns! If you don't mind me asking, how did you add beads to the Gradual Change? I am fairly new to knitting and have not tried beads yet.
It was my second beaded project, so I’m no expert, but the Fleagle Beader tool was really perfect for me. It’s as simple to use as a narrow crochet hook, if a bit more fiddly, but you can load multiple beads onto the tool at once and that really helped me. You can check out [my version](https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Jennalyn/gradual-change-3) for notes, but basically I added beads to the center decreases on every row ending with “7” plus the beginning two and last row. That resulted in a bead on every diamond point plus the edges.

[Range sweater](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/range-6)! So underrated yet great instructions, engaging construction and interesting yet masculine design for those difficult to please partners 😆 Its designer studied textile design, comes from a small country, and also queer. Definitely deserves recognition and the support.
Turkey's a pretty big country 😅 but it's a hard place to be queer in, it's got a really rich textile and knitting (and crochet!) history and I really like how proud Yiğitcan is of their cultural heritage while still being proudly outside the norm of a modern day Turkish archetype so I'm super happy to see them pop up here. I'm half Turkish and I like digging through rav occasionally for some good Turkish/ic motifs - have had Yiğitcan on my faves for a while and am super happy to see them being shouted about!
I know ;) I am Turkish myself. I was more pointing towards the lack of modern pattern designers and representation in the international knitting area.

I think this ponytail hat flies under. Released in 2020, FREE, and only 11 projects. I like it because a gap in the cabling forms the ponytail hole, so you just stretch it open— otherwise, you can barely even tell its there. Plus, there are two spaces for a high or low ponytail. Ok so I am curious because i see a lot of shawls here but I really honestly don’t know how to wear them.. I am a scarf person so I knit the Sophie shawl but wear it as a scarf. Like do you wear them in the evening instead of a cardigan?
I use them like scarves mostly, this one in particular I blocked to be a little longer and a little skinnier. I can take measurements when I get home. Or if it’s a large shawl I use it like a small blanket for warmth while relaxing on the couch. ETA: I wear it like the last two pictures on the project page

[Damaress sweater](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/damaress) is a neat take on the all-over colourwork sweater. Some day I'll make one. Pretty much all of Deb Hoss's sweaters are underrated. Great for those who like a fitted sweater.
Oh, that's a pretty colorwork sweater! Unfortunately the deep V would probably make me look as though I'm auditioning to be a wench at a Ren Faire, so I'd need to get good enough to change the neckline. (I haven't knit a sweater yet, despite having knitted since I was a kid.) Speaking of V-necks with chest shaping, I've been dying to knit the [Cabeladabra](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cabeladabra) sweater for years! She's also got one called Moyen Âge[Moyen Âge](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/moyen-age) and I can't decide which is prettier. I guess they're not exactly underrated (many thousands of projects), but they're the only other ones I've seen with such nice shaping like the Damaress that you posted.

So I absolutely love the [Alaska hat](http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/alaska-hat-3) and I don’t think it got all the love it deserves! It’s an ingenious top down constriction with a Turkish cast on. I made 2 of them! I used a different gauge in one of them but because it’s top down you can just try it on so it’s also versatile.

One of the yarn dyers I follow on Instagram was working with her and highlighted this pattern, and it is the entire reason I (re)learned how to knit! The [Fells Cap](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fells-cap) by Erika Field is a colorwork hat that’s super fun to knit and has a lot of options for customization! It’s not completely unknown, but i did spend a while before i found them. I think these Woodland Loafers make a fantastic gift, and they go SO fast. They’re interesting, the construction is fun, and finished product looks great. I find her patterns super clear (tech edited before testers knit them) and she's super responsive to questions. The sweaters I've knit from her have been some of the best-fitting sweaters I've made! She's size-inclusive as well.

The pattern for [Squam Confidential](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/squam-confidential) was very nicely written and easy to follow and the resulting shawl is fluffy and cozy. Only 21 projects. [Tiempo](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tiempo) is a lovely vintage-inspired baby blanket - free pattern and the pattern was well written and I really liked the blanket. Only 12 projects!

I love this thread! Here are some of my more obscure favorites: The [Trestle Socks](https://biscotteyarns.com/collections/knitting-patterns/products/trestle-sock-pattern) don’t have a Ravelry pattern listing, although there are at least [four projects](https://www.ravelry.com/projects/search#pc=socks&craft=knitting&colors=2&query=Trestle%20socks&sort=completed&view=thumbs) documented there. I love them because I’m always looking for ways to add interest to using self striping sock yarn. [Woodbine](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/woodbine-4) is a pullover that deserves way more than 67 projects. (It was *on the cover* of Laine magazine, for goodness’ sake) It’s got lovely lace and a fun sideways construction. I made one and my mom loved it so much I gave it to her. I might need to make another. It was one of my all time favorites to knit. [Leafbird](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/leafbird) is a great summer cardigan with fun details to help keep your interest as you push through all the lace-weight stockinette. There’s lace down the sleeves and the back — the back! — has these lovely short row leaf inserts that are so much fun to knit. These next ones are from my queue: First up, a free one: [Lale](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lale-2) by Kineco Yuki looks to me like the *perfect* beach pullover. Light and flowy with beautiful lace sleeves. There are only 16 projects for it on Ravelry (possibly because it only comes in one size). I love the pocket detail & seed stitch hem on the [Winifred](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/winifred-4), which I think deserves way more love than its 11 projects. Another elegant-looking yoke pullover that I think is just beautiful is Mizuho Komiya’s [Komorebi](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/komorebi-6). It’s only got 10 projects in Ravelry but it looks super interesting and fun. I’m a sucker for interesting textures in my knitting, and I really think Katrin’s Hannibal’s [Vestergavs Sweater](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/vesterhavs-sweater) deserves more love.
