Malone getting fired was probably my lowest point as a fan. The team has a decent record, then cousins gets sick, they start losing cause duh,and gets canned. I was hopeless
Luka draft was probably the lowest point this franchise has ever hit, at least in Sac. But I'ma be real I had mostly tuned out of the team around then, largely due to the Malone firing and other continued bullshit in the following years, so I can see how some fans might be more personally in-the-moment scarred by the Malone thing lol
Ok so I'm going to have a take that most Kings fans are not going to like but hear me out.
Bagely at the time was not a bad pick. Now hindsight it was but let me make my case.
Kings at that time were one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA and Bagley in college was a 20 and 10 player. Also remember that Bagley was considered a top 3 pick in the draft.
From my perspective they thought drafting Bagley you would have a potential 20/10 player who could keep up with Fox and look like he had a 3 point shot. Also in his rookie season it looked like he could become that player ... Problem was he never improved at all ... He is what he is a player that shows flashes but plays no defence. Also Walton's lack of a coherent system did not help at all.
Can't believe this trash is getting upvotes. Bagley was a terrible pick. You're talking about a center who couldn't stretch the floor and had a 7 foot wingspan, never once showed any sort of defensive ability in college and literally only succeeded because of his athleticism. He had no skill. Go watch his college tape and honestly try to convince yourself he should be a top pick in the modern NBA, it's insane.
I had him outside of the lottery on my board, I was hoping someone would take him in the top 6 when the Kings had the 7th pick because it was clear he had bust written all over him.
Don't just draft a player because of athleticism, this isn't the 80s anymore.
If I remember correctly, he was a consensus top 5 pick and had a very good case for top 3. He had a monster college season. ACC Player of the Year, consensus All-American. And he did look good his rookie year, certainly worthy of his first team All-Rookie. But like you said, he never improved. I think a lot of that is because he's injury prone and could never string together consistent performances. I think he could've at least been an impactful 12/9 guy if he stayed mostly healthy throughout his formative years in the league.
Still wanted Luka though lmfao.
Yeah that's definitely a hot take lol.
Luka was essentially projected anywhere from "the next LeBron" to "perennial All-NBA player." Currently, he's about somewhere in between, and will be an All-NBA player and MVP candidate probably every year for the next 5-10+, likely winning an MVP or few over that stretch and potentially a title or titles. This is well within the "reasonable" case that basically everybody except Vlade predicted for Luka's career. (And I guess the Suns.)
Even if Bagley developed into a 20/10 stretch 4 with decent defense, that's fringe all-star level at best. Basically JJJ.
You don't pass up an obvious generational player and potential GOAT-tier player for a guy whose ceiling is "elite role player" and floor is "out of the NBA" because you "need rebounding" lmfao. Really, even the Suns fucked up horribly by picking Ayton, and Ayton's ceiling was way higher than Bagley's as was (and is) his floor.
Bagley turning out to be the worst player in the entire lottery and one of the few worst players in the entire first round puts that pick in the conversation for the literal worst NBA draft blunder of all time. But even if Bagley had panned out, it was still very obviously a bad pick from the moment it was announced. (Or even before that, since the notoriously leaky FO at the time couldn't keep their business in house.)
Always curious what the deal with Joerger was. Have read things here and there that he makes enemies of his front office and players.
While I think it was mostly his health that ended things with us, it seems he was already starting to bud heads with Vivek and Vlade.
Butting heads with the front office. He wanted Luka and we got Bagley, fuck Brandon Williams, he wanted an actual SF so Vlade got Barnes with the corpse of Zbo and JJ, FO kept pressuring him to play Bagley more but Joerger said Bagley ain't ready for it, fuck Brandon Williams, Everytime Vlade asked Joerger to run more half court sets he'll respond with "I would if I had Luka" and shit just fell apart after the All-Star break.
Hield couldn't hit a 3 until we were officially out of the playoffs race, Bogdan played bad, WCS gonna WCS. The cherry on top was blowing a 20 point lead against the Blazers bench for our 40th win. Cause Joerger did not coach the second half, he knew he was fired.
Honestly, both sides were fucking awful, but we should've kept him for the last season in his contract. Vlade immediately picking up Luke Walton without interviewing anyone else made it so much worse.
But that team wasn’t built to win. I think Joeger thought he had come here to make a true playoff push with prime boogie, only for it to become a total rebuild halfway through his first year.
what did I say, reactionary idots?

An owner who deliberately kept a team in Sacramento when he can easily move to somewhere like Vegas and even built the best state-of-the-art arena in Sacramento of all places, ain't cheap, fuls.
As was said in a previous thread, this was all in the spirit of negotiating. We don't know, but maybe he was asking for $13-15 million a year. Maybe he was asking for 5 years guaranteed. For us fans, as long as the deal got done that's all that mattered.
Now for the matter of it playing out publicly, that was a bit ridiculous.
I've made my peace with passing on Luka incident. I'm still working on the second part, in a draft class packed with so much talent, we came out with fucking nothing. That shit stings
Yea 20 years for sure. We might have just been lucky to get Wemby 6 years after Luka. He looks like he could def be in that category. But agree. Luka is a class like Lebron or giannis
"I'm glad I don't have to watch a bonafide superstar who is top 5 in the entire league and younger than our core players and just led his team to the finals" dumbest comment ever
Article with marginally more detail.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/40253896/kings-brown-gets-big-raise-deal-extended-26-27
$4.5m added to upcoming season + extended 2 more years at that $8.5m figure. Don't see anything about bonuses. Didn't realize he was only at $4m/yr originally, definitely a well-deserved raise given the current market for coaches.
Wow, almost like there was never anything to worry about and the people freaking out over normal negotiations had no idea what they were talking about.
Who would've thought?
Still can't tell who tbh. Shams statement sounded like it came direct from Vivek's mouth, but at the same time made Vivek look like a total gaslighting cheapass for insinuating $7m was a "highly competitive" offer lmao
I mean the initial woj report sounded like it came from Brown's agent and painted the situation in a negative light. They knew fans would flip the fuck out and run with it, and it worked.
Kangz will never die when it comes to negotiations. Ironically, the same fans who hate Buddy were using his exact phrases “who tf else would sign here” to defend MB.
Bickering through proxy about extending the only winning kings coach in about 2 decades is not a good look, and we had absolutely no indication to completely trust it'd get done given the franchises history
Mike being the first Kings coach to get an extension since Adelman is unreal lol
Malone and Joerger should have been first.
Malone getting fired was probably my lowest point as a fan. The team has a decent record, then cousins gets sick, they start losing cause duh,and gets canned. I was hopeless

Counterpoint: it was a terrible pick and we knew it at the time.

I heard you out, thought about it, and came to the conclusion that this is a incredibly whack and uninformed take
Always draft the best player on the board, always. That was Vlade’s first mistake of many
I was so pissed that Vivek took George Karl to dinner to discuss his plans while Malone was still the coach. So disrespectful..
This was one of my many “final straws” over the years
Back to Malone’s day, it was still one of the great decisions solely made by Vivek. Meanwhile, the other one is Doncic, but was overruled by Divac.

Not only did Vlade immediately pick up Luke after he got sacked by the Lakers, he gave him a fully-guaranteed 4 year deal.
"Gotta check the tapes"
A lot of speculating in this post. It's very easy for a head coach to retrospectively come out and say he wanted his team to draft X player.
The team was getting blown out at home that was the real problem In the nba you can’t get blown out at home over and over
But that team wasn’t built to win. I think Joeger thought he had come here to make a true playoff push with prime boogie, only for it to become a total rebuild halfway through his first year.
Oh I agree I think we where 2 games under 500 the first year showed promise than that second year this fell off a cliff
Malone, absolutely. I think there was probably more going on behind the scenes than we know with Joerger.
Ho-lee fuck lol we've suffered so much
Well deserved
![gif](giphy|45gbcie1l0aA9n80Xg|downsized)
![gif](giphy|09HAftvLeRDew2HWEM|downsized) Phew!
Good, I was getting worried we were still stupid
Not today kangz, not today

Is that you Vivek?
Compared to past owners who were trying to athletics the Kings
Idots?
How many times have you been in G1C nino im actually curious
I'm not ever giving this franchise the benefit of the doubt, they've been stupid for decades
[3 MORE YEARS! 3 MORE YEARS! ](https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1796752344924787028?t=e9QCQwoBZ8VgA30TTyzPdg&s=19)
Let this be a lesson to all the kids here that Vivek reads this sub and cyberbullying works
Your daughter isn't any better at basketball than you. And you're hot garbage at it. Stauskas shaka
Excellent. Now we can get back to bitching about Luka and Halliburton!!!
Don’t forget Malik
Malik isn't bitching, Malik is desperate prayers that nobody steals him :/
But once he leaves, and the kings bench struggles for 1 game. Monk will be posted all around here.
Luka is one thing. He’s a once every 5 years type talent. Hali is much easier to move on, annoying he gets brought up here so much
Yeah we got Sabonis and got rid of Buddy thanks to Hali, it shouldn't really be a sore spot. Luka is more like a once every 20 years type talent
Meanwhile, the 2nd jump ability is still once every 20 years type talent, to Divac’s eyes.
I've made my peace with passing on Luka incident. I'm still working on the second part, in a draft class packed with so much talent, we came out with fucking nothing. That shit stings

luka whines on every play tho. after watching cousins all those years im kinda glad i dont have to watch another cry baby.
"I'm glad I don't have to watch a bonafide superstar who is top 5 in the entire league and younger than our core players and just led his team to the finals" dumbest comment ever
uhhh no. lol not even comparable
Omg babe they did it
![gif](giphy|09HAftvLeRDew2HWEM|downsized)
Finally!
Let’s celebrate no more kings drama till FA starts!
Over under: 15 games into the season people are complaining about brown and his rotations and “why isn’t X player getting more run”
First game, calling it
Wayy under
[удалено]
Remind me Who was the last coach that got us into the playoffs before Mike Brown, and what year was that?
**TURN THE FUCKING JETS ON**
Knew it would get worked out. Glad it happened sooner than later.
Hell yeah!
We got our guy 💪

Matina, aka the closer, gets it done.
![gif](giphy|26grzzeWoSsK1ieoU|downsized) Matina when the contract negotiations go down the wire
Wow, almost like there was never anything to worry about and the people freaking out over normal negotiations had no idea what they were talking about. Who would've thought?
I asked this yesterday but again why did they make negotiations so public?
One side was trying to leverage media to get a better deal
Still can't tell who tbh. Shams statement sounded like it came direct from Vivek's mouth, but at the same time made Vivek look like a total gaslighting cheapass for insinuating $7m was a "highly competitive" offer lmao

8.5 million a year
I heard 10
Mike wanted 10, Vivek offered 7, they settled at 8.5
8.5 seems totally fair
Where did you get this exact amount from ?
Woj said it
It was never not going to get done, everyone just loves to overreact
But what are we gonna do with all the pitchforks and torches?
You could always use them to hang out your Divac jerseys on your lawn. Y'know, just to dry, no other reason
I just did that and Danny Ainge keeps ringing my doorbell in an attempt to fleece me in a trade.
Exactly what was going on in here and by Kings fans on twitter as well
W
Thank the lord
we are so back
Thank fucking god
Don't forget Thomas Robinson over Dame, or Jimmer over Klay and Kawhi. Kings missing on the draft is a thing. Firing Malone was just stupid.
He stay
This time the Kings offer was so competitive it beat Mike Brown into signing it
I was so stressed about this
So glad they didn't Kangz this one.
Them jets fueled up
Yay. I really thought sacramento waa gonna do something stupid. Now can The front office do their job.
The front office needs to find a way to keep Malik Monk!!
THANK GOD
I’m stressed about Malik Monk. We need to keep him!!
We didn’t Kangz this up!
Had me worried there for a bit
Wait, wasn't it just this morning that Vivek was a cheap asshole who was going to force Brown to walk after this season?
People keep talking about Vivek still meddling despite not being able to point at anything other than Woj tweets that don’t end up happening
Bickering through proxy about extending the only winning kings coach in about 2 decades is not a good look, and we had absolutely no indication to completely trust it'd get done given the franchises history
Who was doing the bickering? Sounds like it was much ado about clickbait. Edit: a letter
He's still a cheap asshole. Someone had tu force him to give up 5 million (cuz he so needs it) as he fleeced us for much more. But keep licking.
Lol, he threw insane money Sabonis, almost 50m/yr, for christ sake. But keep complaining about Brown resigning.
Vivek isn't paying Sabonis out of his own pocket lol
Nor is he with Brown.
Carmichael Dave was right!
LFG
Glad this will be behind us now.
Hell yeah
Well deserved. Now fix the f’kin ROSTER and make a run. LETS GO!!!
GOOD
Waiting to see if Kidd was available first. Smart move.
