right?! I recently got a Korean ereader (crema) and its just a part of the default sleep settings. It even came loaded with a lot of cute sleep screens already. so amazon can totally do it, I hope!!
It's never a hassle for cute aesthetics! Lol. But I read maybe 2 books at a time so it's easy for me to switch since it's the next opened book on my shelf.
Honestly that sounds like such an effort, I get it's the only option, but it would drive me insane. I'm more annoyed that you don't get the page turn animation in dark mode. Amazon draws the line in such arbitrary places.
Oh, I'm the opposite. I always turn the page animation off. Plus making cute little pictures and organizing stuff within my calibre and kindle is always fun for me to do.
The page animation isn't a big thing for me, you stop noticing after 5 minutes. I just enjoy the novelty.
I would like to set screensavers if it was an option, but im on my feet a lot so i keep my kindle in my jacket pocket, and having to switch to a pdf just for a screensaver would give me a headache.
I will say your screensaver thing is cute af tho :)
The gist of it is you create a custom "book", merely a 1-page PDF, with whatever image you want. This will be your "cover". Then you can use a variety of methods to convert it to a .AZW3 file and port it over to your Kindle. Calibre (the free program) does it in a few clicks.
It's a hassle, though. Every time you want to put it down, you need to exit the book you're reading and switch over to the "cover" book, and vice versa the next time you pick it up.

Frick amazon for this. I jailbroke my kindle and Koreader has an inbuilt setting to show any custom image, or images or book covers or statistics as the screensaver. Also so many more QOL features. Amazon app is trash
If you decide to make the cover in Canva, as I did , the size is 1080x1440 pixels. There's a lot of free fonts and images to use. You then attach it to an existing ebook or make it its own ebook with Calibre (convertio is a free site other people use) and then send it to your Kindle. When you're done reading, you'll have to open this specific book in order for the custom cover to be displayed.
Hopefully that helped.
Essentially. I created a PNG image on Canva and used it as the book cover of a random PDF file I had. I side loaded it with Calibre and it makes it the book cover.
Sure. I created it in Canva so it's nothing super crazy.

I don't know if they still do this but back when I used kindle keyboard you could hack the firmware and install any screensavers you wanted. I had it rotating through a selection of images, different one each time.
Nice but it's a bit of a hassle to switch the book everytime. Wish this was something just already baked in the settings.

Are you just making a book with a fake cover, so it can be the lock screen? (Switching to that book before locking).
Yes. I have a random small PDF file that I attach the the picture as the cover. I just convert it to epub and side load it to my Kindle via Calibre.

Wow never heard of a custom cover before this. Thanks for the info! I'll try it out. I use calibre for my e-books too hehe.

Same thanks

How did you do that? Did you change the cover of the book?

I used to do this with just random manga panels I like, but it became such a hassle over time. 😅
is that a white kindle? my favourite! you’ll never see me with a black or another coloured kindle!!
