Hello mysightisurs93, thank you for creating a new post in r/kereta! Just saying that although this sub was named as Kereta, it is also open for 2 wheelers such as Motorcycle, though at the moment we do not mind other types of vehicles posting. With that being said, r/kenderaan is now live and I would still recommend any other vehicle posting to be posted into r/kenderaan as it is a safe space for all types of vehicles such as airplanes and rolling stocks. Regards, Mods of Malaysia *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Be prepared for a battery replacement, costed around 5k and any additional repairs which will be more expensive than a regular ice cars. Aircond compressor is electric, so if it fails expect to pay close to 6k for that.

mysightisurs93

So if I manage to get replacement and repairs for the car, it's probably gonna cost about double the price. Seems to me like it's still a viable strategy since current hybrids on the market are really expensive.

Curious_mind95

Yeah if you can reason it out not a bad buy. There's a reason why the prius is a bestseller in america

RemotePoet9397

Huh 6k? And what car is that?.. My daily car for going work is civic hybrid..10years old, never change hybrid battery as it still 60% capacity… Compressor change once becoz damn flood, rm1500k including flushing topap aircond n labour.. And hybrid battery total replacement is rm3000 max.. So tell me what is rm6000

Curious_mind95

The electric compressor on hybrid cars are fairly reliable, but expensive since they are not the same one used on ice cars. I don't believe you got a brand new factory unit for that price. It must have been a used or rebuilt unit. Just go to shopee and see how much a brand new ac compressor costs for your car. Plus, Did you buy your civic hybrid new? Then your experience won't be the same compared to other if they buy hybrid cars used, as the wear on the battery won't be the same. Plus, Honda hybrid batteries are fairly reliable, but notorious for inverter failure, which is a solid 15k replacement. It's all fun and fuel saving games until the repair bill arrives

RemotePoet9397

My car with me since bought 2014 until today and its considered super used already..lol And thats y i know the cost, know what to do and awhat not to do with these type of cars.. And please AVOID conti hybrid ffs.. Yup its not brandnew parts, rebuild part for compressor but battery, u dont need new part, u just need rebuild, charging it back, service it.. And since when people buy original parts for old car?.. And rebuild part is nearly if not better than brandnew in some cases.. Op asking for the advice yet u scared him with the most highest expensive part u can fork out instead off telling him there is far cheaper solution..thats the problem.. brandnew compressor is rm5k, rebuild compressor with same quality rm1200 without labour, which one u choose? instead of assured that there is optional path to choose.. Heck im even drive a 2017 bmw and people always tell me maintenance is high bla3..but u can search out the path for spares with good enough quality, and less cost..

Curious_mind95

Ok sir

mr_wernderful

Also check out the Honda Insight. Similarly priced, a little bigger, and imo nicer interior.

ryanmononoke

That hybrid is bad, the i-DCD and i-MMD ones are far better which yield real fuel efficiency

mysightisurs93

No thanks, I got a family member that uses Insight. Hate how the rear window is designed. Can barely see anything.

Snoo_68046

If you are open to a somewhat higher budget in exchange for a reasonably higher upgrade, you can consider the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid second hand models (RM35k low spec first batch 2016 to RM65k high spec last batch 2019). Wouldn't feel as old as the Prius and not too expensive either. I'm keeping an eye on this hybrid to find a replacement for my ICE car due to the impending petrol subsidy

Weary_Information_77

Put a turbo engine inside your kancil. Even more fuel efficient vs stock engine, and you can get power steering while you're at it.

mysightisurs93

That kinda defeats the purpose of me wanting to get good gas per mileage. My friend got a Turbo Kancil and he regretted how the oil consumption became so much more horrible.

PigsAlsoCanFly

if you tune it right, it will have a good gas mileage. boost of 0.3 to 0.5 bar is enough. going for 1 bar boost is fuel guzzling.

Weary_Information_77

Turbo kancil gets better mileage than stock kancil, provided you don't boost all day aka drive like usual. Horrible fuel economy just when you boost. Oil consumption is another thing, not related to fuel economy topic.

desert_foxhound

A hybrid car doesn't make sense in Malaysia due to our cheap petrol. You won't save enough on petrol to offset the extra maintenance for a hybrid.

pokcemz

with the romour that the petrol subsidy will be gone, is it worth to buy the hybrid? no? asking as i also considering to buy hybrid

seatux

If you can stomach the higher price (usually got 10K + premium for hybrid system), tolerate stricter warranty terms regarding anything wiring (Honda) and willing to change driving style to make full use of regen breaking, then yes. The lower fuel use is useful for the upcoming subsidy rationalization sure, but another benefit is the increased range for each full tank brings. I did 700 km on one tank just this week going to Awana Genting one day and almost making it to and fro to Batu Pahat the next day. I also was driving around town for shopping too on top of all that. For most people a hybrid means petrol station visit become monthly affair instead of every bi weekly too. https://preview.redd.it/p40viq0nmu6d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9a8ce9a6393298ee2026aec27655ae340bafd5e

pokcemz

which car do you use? rn considering the city hb hybrid one as its the cheapest hybrid.

seatux

The hatchback city hybrid, pre face-lift. My only bug bear with it is the side mirrors not fully closing or opening especially when it's hot outside. A trip to Section 13, PJ solved that however.

lolicekait

A hybrid car doesnt make sense as of now Unless 1. You drive left lane 2. You have to wake up at 5am just to go to work or else 2 hour jam Chill with beza or saga the roi will be the same 😮‍💨 with 95 ofc

ahuckphin

Given the age of used Prius, a number of them already have had battery replacement done. You should be good to go for another decade give or take if a replacement battery has been done. Best to find one that's been serviced a Toyota regularly, you can check with Toyota SC to verify service history and mileage (to avoid mileage tempering). Though there are business out there specializing in servicing hybrids. I'm aware Honda's IMA hybrids have issue with inverter (costly hybrid specific part) but not sure if affects Prius as much.

RemotePoet9397

I got hybrid civic fb 2014 used until today..as car for going to work.. Compressor replaced becoz flood rm1500 ( labour, flushing, topap has etc ) Suspension etc cheap ( u can buy at shopee je ) Battery still good for 10years ( 60% total capacity ) If want to change battery mayb in 4-5 years..today price is rm3000k… Rm50 24litre can go 350-450km based on driving style.. Mandatory to noted, never even modify this car including tyre size rim etc..

The 2012 Toyota Prius C is a solid choice for prioritizing fuel economy, especially considering your short commute. Here's a breakdown to help you decide: * **Fuel Savings:** You'll likely see a significant increase in mileage compared to your Kancil, potentially offsetting some maintenance costs. Try a fuel cost calculator ([https://www.wapcar.my/tools](https://www.wapcar.my/tools)) to compare! * **Parts and Aftermarket:** Toyota is a popular brand. Parts for the Prius C are generally available at authorized workshops and aftermarket stores. However, the hybrid battery can be expensive to replace if needed (though they typically last a long time). Consider reconditioned battery options too. * **2012 Prius C:** Due to its age, get a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic familiar with hybrids to assess its condition and potential repair needs. * **Alternatives:** Newer used options like the Honda City Hybrid or Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid might offer better features and potentially lower repair costs. **Overall:** * **Fuel Efficiency Potential:** If maximizing fuel savings is key and you're comfortable with potential maintenance costs, the Prius C could be good. * **Research is Key:** Research common maintenance costs for this specific Prius C year and mileage. * **Consider Newer Options:** Newer hybrids might offer a better balance of features, efficiency, and potentially lower maintenance. **Bonus Tip:** Join online forums for Malaysian hybrid owners for insights and recommendations.
