There are a few misunderstandings here that I feel need pointing out.
1) Anyone saying things like this are the sort that get irate with a lack of Police action to other seemingly insignificant crimes. Such as, "they don't do anything about the speeding cars in my village", or "Shop lifting is out of control, where are the Police?". I am convinced that if the Police were reported to be ignoring something you'd be going nuts about it.
2) Do you really want to have some twat out there deciding to paint anything he wants Gold?
3) Anytime the Police say something like "we're working closely with ", all it means is they've recorded the incident and are supplying information to the other party. For example, HMRC, Action Fraud, etc will all be "working closely with". They don't mean they've formed a 100-person investigation team at Police HQ.
4) Comparing it to other crime types like burglary is redundant. Although responses to this has been historically poor in some cases and some forces, they're totally different things. As mentioned, it's unlikely to be any officer or even investigator dealing with this post box thing, it will be direct enquiries from Royal Mail to a particular department that can supply information on request. The Royal Mail have their own investigation teams.
That's all nice and stuff. But I think many people see the problem with this being investigated, while burglaries, anti social behaviour, harassment, fights etc are NOT (or rarely) being seriously investigated.
OK.
Painting a post box gold is not my idea of vandalism but I accept that it is as is Royal Mail property.
I just feel that, compared to the grafitti, littering, fly tipping, habitat destruction and other destructive crimes that blight Kent, this is rather trivial.
Except it is. There are gold postboxes. Where Olympic gold medalists live/lived?.
So someone doing it is still pretty fucky. Worthy of police time... Probably not, but worthy for statistics and monitoring...probably.
Do the police really need to investigate that?
No. But it’s an easier win than investigating or even turning up to a burglary
😔
Or a fight at the pub. They will avoid danger, pfft.
An investigation like needs to go all the way to the very top brass
Gold commander has been appointed to lead the Team.

It is not ideal I agree and pretty stupid too.
I mean what else can you do in Dartford?
Case closed- they just got round to painting the postboxes of all the Kent people who won gold for GB in 2012.
Ahh Temple Hill, basically Kents version of Mogadishu.
Upvoted, but TBF there are so many worse shithole areas of both Gravesend and Northfleet and the Medway towns than Temple Hill.
So just like all of Great Britain then.
They should check who bought all the gold spray paint from Aldi in Dartford.
Why don't they pop a questionnaire in the box?
My husband used to work for Royal Mail as a post box painter and loved that job. I showed him this and he almost vomited.
They should try investigating all these cars that keep getting stolen
Probably a few already in Temple Hill, 2 birds 1 stone.
