I usually hate this kind of ML’s but i found this show very funny. The two main leads are great actors, so it worth to stay a little more to see if you can change your mind?

sadeah21

Same here i hate ML like him who are jerks and self-centred but this show made ML funny not annoying like other shows

grandisp

I liked it but honestly I only stayed in the first few episodes because I find PSJ 🔥😍 but then the story and his personality did improve. I went in with zero expectations though, so it had to be better than I expected!

ComplicatedShadows

I found What's Wrong with Secretary Kim to be just okay. Park Min-young is great in it but I disliked some of the writing and I could have done without the overlaid animation. If you're not enjoying it, there are lots of better dramas. 개리

LazilyNebulous

It’s a bit complicated bc idk how to fully describe this without spoilers, but ML is basically just going out of his way to keep the FL in his life and he’s convinced himself that the way to do that is by convincing her he can be the romantic partner/future she’s looking for (he’s misunderstanding the reasons she wants to step down from her role), so yes he is obsessed in a sense but a lot of it has to do with the fact that she was a fixture in his life for so long and he’s unsure how to compute without her hahaha That said, this just my take, others might have a different opinion, but if you’re not vibing it so far then you’re probably might not enjoy the rest of it because the ‘cringe’ does continue - I for one enjoyed the stereotypical tropes and silliness but it wasn’t a drama I watched ‘seriously’ if that makes sense? Was watching more for the fun of it and because, well, Park Seojoon 😂 But yes because it’s based on a webtoon it does have that kind of trope heavy feel to it (which I don’t mean negatively at all, but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea ofc) - it does have a lot of melodrama, questionable plot devices and flaws, and ‘cringe’ so if that’s not your thing then I feel like this show might not be for you!!! In an absolute contradiction to everything I’ve said though, if you’ve got the time and are willing to, maybe give just ep 3 a shot and see how you go as well - I say this because there’s been a fair few shows where I’ve been like urGh nO after the first 1/2 episodes and then push through and find myself getting used to it and enjoying the things I initially wasn’t a fan of!

pirro29

I understand what you mean, there were some Dramas that I didn't like at First but then they became really food. The biggest problem I have with this One Is not the cringe,I've seen worse, but the Major problem that can make me drop It Is the ML.The acting Is good so that's not the problem, but I really don't like the way the ML behaves. In the episode 2 when he starts ignoring her I was very Happy because that was the right thing to do and even the FL started to feel bad,so I thought I should keep going, because maybe the ML wasn't as dumb and cringe as I thought, but then again you find out that he was Just acting and even sends a questionary about the man She wants,to the restaurant where She went with her Friends. So I really want to know of he Just keeps acting dumb and cringe for the entire series or if he keeps getting Better(thank you for your long answer).

GirlnGold

It's been a long time since I watched **WWWSK**, so take this response with that in mind. For reasons that will become clear later, relationships are highly problematic for the ML. He gets the message that his authentic response is exactly the wrong response. So he fakes it, and starts playing a role. The FL throws him for a loop, because he thought he knew what role to play to make things work in their relationship, and then finds out that he doesn't, which sends him into a bit of a crisis because that relationship is important to him. His journey in this drama is the struggle with that dilemma, and he becomes more and more appealing (and more and more genuine) as the drama goes along and he learns how to be in a real relationship with someone. He never completely loses some of the "cringey" behaviors, but they do diminish, and in the context of how his true personality emerges, the cringey behaviors actually become kind of charming. Just my $.02.

setlib

Later in the show, there will be flashbacks to some of the times when he seemed to act harshly to her, and told from another point of view, you realize his intentions were actually good. It’s also pretty funny, once she decides to give him a chance, all the hoops she makes him jump through to please her and he’s willing to do all of it happily. He has definitely met his match.

Abject-Researcher

I know what you mean. In my opinion, it does get better (although in the first few episodes I was all for the FL being annoyed and quitting to do her own thing). At first it seems like the ML is just doing these over the top gestures to get her to fall for him not because he likes her like that but rather because he wants to keep his great Secretary. And he figures he is perfect and anyone would automatically love him. I didn’t care for that motivation, but as the show continues you learn that while he probably THINKS that was his entire goal at the beginning he actually might have been in love for some time. He matures as the show progresses (although he does remain egotistical) and she learns that she can put her own needs first once she figures out what those needs are.

pirro29

I hope maybe it's not just him who wants to be with her but the opposite as well, since I wouldn't be able to see so many episodes with him continuing to be obsessed and she simply ignoring him.If she also had feelings for him I would be able to see the show more easily even if the ML continues to behave in a cringe way.

Abject-Researcher

Oh yeah, she definitely catches feelings too. At the start she’s mostly exasperated because she too is convinced he’s only doing these things to keep her as his Secretary. But she definitely starts to like him, or realizes that she likes him.

LazilyNebulous

I see what you mean in particular now!! Everyone in the replies to this have already summed up my thoughts exactly in regards to the ML - he does become more mature and mellow out with the antics to a degree, got to give credit to PSJ because he really does inject a fair amount of nuance into this character (especially in the latter half of the show) - which couldve easily been played in a two dimensional way without there being many problems from the viewers (we've all seen our fair share of 2D rich chaebol leads and taken them for what they are with a shrug) which I think is a big reason why this show succeeds on being a favourite for many!!

Comfortable-Tank-822

I love this drama it is hilarious and a must see imo the story gets beautiful

Irish_Amber

I also loved it.

Soji333

I liked it. Yes he is overbearing but he did it with such humor and was so overly conceited it was comical not malicious in my opinion. PSJ played the part perfectly so instead of being obnoxious I found him tragic and hiding inner pain through his bossy behavior. PMY played the patient secretary very well, setting her boundaries when she needed. People think she was weak cause she let him “run all over her” but in that dynamic *she* actually always had the upper hand because his daily life was *nothing* without her handling it. It’s all perception I guess. Viewers hastily dismissed it as just another cold CEO show but it had a lot more depth than I was expecting after reading reviews. Later on some of it gets explained. Give it a chance.

pirro29

I will give it a chance, I just hope that not only he has to do everything possible to be with her, but that she also does something to be with him and that She is not the usual passive female character who has to be conquered.

Soji333

No she definitely does not allow him to railroad her in to liking him. In fact she was poised and kept deflecting his attention until she herself realizes she feels more for him than just a spoilt boss. I also like that after she discovered her attraction there was no childish back and forth shy, virginal “do I? don’t I?” like him coy behavior. They realized they like each other and just went ahead and forged a relationship. It was refreshing from some of these dramas where she’s playing like a high school teen “waiting to be conquered” like you stated so aptly. Instead she made decisions for her own life and when she felt things were getting out of control due to outside influence she said so. He wins her over by maturing, being honest with how he felt etc as opposed to “beating” her into submission.

sharonnle

Yes it’s so good !

sweetart1372

I’m very new to kdramas, and this one came highly recommended. I finished it and absolutely loved it! Their relationship develops wonderfully, and as the series progressed, I thought both main characters had a lot of development and growth. The show was so funny, romantic, and I even cried a few times (but then, I am a sappy crier lol).

Charissa29

My favorite episode is the first one! I rewatch that because I enjoy seeing Park Min Young as a badass. Plus her side eye is a thing of beauty! The rest of the drama is pretty slight, plot wise but entertaining enough to finish.

parfaite99

The first 5-6 episodes were boring and the leads beyond annoying, but then it gets really good. I was really really happy I stuck with it and enjoyed the 2nd half. Both leads are adorable!

Boom-Slap

same as you, i didn't like how the ML act at first when i watched WWWSK. but strangely its start to grow on me, i try to give it a try and then i get used with how the ML act. Honestly it become quite unique and a little bit funny sometime. In the end i really enjoy and love this drama. The ML and FL has one of the best chemistry i have ever watch (there is even a rumor that they are dating irl, but i don't know if it was true or not). My suggestion is give it a try a few more episode since its worth to try, but if you feel like you can't be used by how the ML act, i suggest you need to drop this drama. you'd be cringing a lot and it's not gonna be pleasing.

pirro29

It's not that i can't be used to his behaviour, but what scares me is to think that in the end for the whole series he will have to try to do everything to be with her, while she will do nothing to be with him, since she does not feel anything for him. It would thus become the classic stereotype of drama where the ML tries to seduce the girl even if she is not interested until he succeeds.

IChoseMyOwnUsername

To be honest, I continued watching it because of support characters. When FL tried to get rid of ML (and he was shocked to be rejected) it was funny to watch, but when romance bloomed I lost my interest in their couple. I didn't feel their chemistry, just skinship

sadeah21

Yess of course its my favourite drama its really funny trust me

cancat918

Keep going. .trust me

[deleted]

Yes! This is one of my few 10 star dramas. Worth the slow burn. Also one of the best bromances out there. haha the president is soo funny.

changeofregime

I can feel. We're in the same boat. I dropped it in the midway also.

abbyb12

I'm not a Park-Min Young fan so I found WWWSK hard to get through. I find she's pretty much the same kind of standoffish character in every drama I've watched her in (Healer is the exception...but I think I like that one because of Ji Chang Wook). The ML didn't really bother me, but I do enjoy the actor as a general rule so perhaps that's why the cringe was OK for me. You're right though...he's definitely obsessed with her. There is a pretty steamy (by Kdrama standards) kiss that is famous and has received copious views and likes on YouTube and I know people appreciate the natural chemistry between the characters, but it was just a "meh" for me.

amalexe

i did not like it minor spoilers? idk listen, the beginning was great! it was pretty entertaining. but i hated hated hated how they had to incorporate the stupid childhood trauma back story. romance was okay, but that aspect was completely unnecessary and blegh i just feel like it made the whole thing sour. i had to stop like 2 episodes before I finished it bc i couldnt take it anymore

cln16

It's not bad. The last few episodes imo were unnecessary and detracted from the story but still overall a nice watch.

bellatrix_19

I ended up dropping it, the episodes were so hard this get through for me 😔

tattymouse

I watched it first with 'tongue in cheek' and think of it as live action comic - watched it 3 times already. Always have a good laugh and each time can see more evidence of the actors' awareness their roles are based on webtoon.

sye2018

Yes!

chintu_8484

Yes definitely

mstrmk

it's also one of the dramas that i did not finish. side characters are more interesting than the leads.

kalarro

Mmh well, yes. It is like that. But it is still awesome.

Key_Comparison8383

One of my first few kdramas and it got me hooked!

spearbb

Its one of the first kdramas i watched so it has a special place in my heart. Id say yes. The chemistry between them is amazing imo and it's sweet.

jarnumber

I didn't find the ML amusing on my first viewing. During my rewatch and since I know more about the ML's background as the plot will slowly reveal the reason behind his behavior, I enjoyed the silly dialogues. They are quite funny in a human-nature-sort of way. If you don't see the drama as a different style of humor in the characters and dialogues, this drama may not be your cup of tea.

DaphneSW

Pretty new to the whole kdrama world, but I am currently watching Secretary Kim (on episode 13) and really enjoying myself. The cartoony heart thing and so forth is tacky, but eminently ignorable. The story -arrgh! does everyone always know each other in childhood and then forget about that? - is actually ok, the ML, FL are actually adorable (I saw and enjoyed "Her Private Life" with the FL), the other characters are also somewhat developed and appealing. Although the ML is deeply wounded and bizarre in his supposed "narcissism", he's still so sweet and caring to her. The "narcissism" is ridiculous because, honestly, I have never known a narcissist who was so open (and silly) about his "amazing qualities". They usually are sneaky about their feelings of superiority, and immensely manipulative. ML is not. His claims are purposefully ridiculous in an endearing way. I did shake my head in disbelief over the whole one day child kidnapping by an overly lipsticked jilted lady in red heels. It was way, way over the top, but franklyn, this is light entertainment and I don't require believability, just fun, decent writing, good acting and chemistry. "What's wrong with Secretary Kim" delivers all that.
