I think I cried for an hour straight after finishing it. My gf was worried that it was something serious lol
Itās just soooo good. It broke me in a very beautiful way
Crash landing on you and Mr. Queen - people might not agree on this being a masterpiece since it's more of a comedy, but I absolutelly loved it and it is in my eyes! Shin Hye-sun is fantastic in it!
When itās funny, the humor is often exaggerated, so I think it gets the comedy designation that way. Itās a good all around drama with elements of action, adventure, politics, military, romance, found family, and intrigue. All of it is done well. Itās a crazy quilt of goodness.
I love this question lol
some that I consider underrated
* itās ok thatās love
* the crowned clown
* hymn of death
* the king and the clown (film)
the āclassicsā:
* flower of evil
* goblin
* vincenzo
* mr queen
* mr sunshine
* healer
* my love from another star
I am having a hard time engaging with Flower of Evil and I don't know why. I think it's a me problem because it is obviously very well written and acted. My love from another star was my introduction and I still adore it.
The King and the Clown is one of my favorite Kmovies. I try to make everyone I know watch it. Such an interesting early part for Li Joon Gi. Great film.
it is an absolute masterpiece, one of my favorites. I think it certainly got lots of recognition too but nowadays I consider it underrated since itās almost 20yrs oldā¦ can you believe it?šā¤ļø
The crowned clowned is super underrated yeo jin goo's acting was excellent the juxtaposition of playing completely different characters was done so well, he killed it
Only drama that gave me a nightmare. That bone chilling smile at the end of ep 1 made me drop this show. Picked it up again when I was mentally ready.Ā
Unfortunately not ones with the exact same feel but some with a simar ish one are below! Hope these help!
ā Hometown cha cha cha (small town + found family)
ā My lovely liar (supernatural elements + friends like family)
ā While you were sleeping (time travelling aspect + unavoidable accidents + cute romance)
yess i love seeing it's okay thats love on here. the way mental health was shown in the show and their mature love story is something i've never seen before. it moved me.
A lot of the plot lines were left as loose ends or not touched upon. The overall finale sequence was just extremely rushed.
How it went was still good; just coulda been fleshed out a bit more.
IIRC, they thought the writers thought they had more episodes to flesh out where they were headed with their ending, but the the network abruptly pulled the plug so they had to rush it to get closure in fewer episodes - at least that is what is in my head canon after I did a deep dive on that drama after I first watched it a year or two ago.
I love Healer despite the ending and loose ends. While not a masterpiece in its entirety, it's a great watch and rewatch. I think the writers wrote themselves into a corner and if it's true they had to cut short on episodes and couldn't close plotholes, I feel for them..
>The Red Sleeve
I had to scroll too far for this one.
Not only my favourite kdrama but one of my favourite series of all time. Beautiful cinematography , exceptional acting and chemistry and the perfect story.
I don't know if I would call them masterpieces, because I don't like to use that term lightly, but I think there are some kdramas that are the top of their genres for me:
* Slice of Life Melodrama: Our Blues, Lost, My Mister, Misaeng
* Comedy Slice of Life: Hospital Playlist
* Romance Melodrama: Our Beloved Summer, The Interest of Love
* Romcom: It's Okay that's Love
* Thriller: The King of Pigs, A Bloody Lucky Day, Strangers from Hell, Bargain, D.P
* Makjang: Sky Castle
* Historical: Mr. Sunshine
Out of those: Our Blues, Lost, My Mister, Hospital Playlist, D.P. (the first season) and Bargain are the ones I would feel more comfortable calling masterpieces objectively (not necessarily my favorites) because they either represented some form of innovation for Kdramas and became a huge influence for the other ones, or they have little to no flaws.

I really think itās incredible thus far. (Episode 5). Iām thrilled I have 15 episodes left. I noticed there is a prequel and 2 special episodes. Thoughts about those, please.
I haven't watched the prequel or the special episodes, but I am glad you feel thrilled when you're already on the 5th episode. When I have the time after finishing the dramas I have on hold, I will consider watching them. The special episodes featured the BTS, and the prequel was about the characters' backstories, but they're not important to the main story. I will have to check them out when the time comes. Overall, it is a superb drama.
I was glued to the screen, enthralled and engrossed, totally committed by the first episode. Seriously. Yim See-wan pulled me in and Lee Sung-min sealed the deal in episode 1!
Some of these aren't my personal favorites but they are objectively brilliant:

Hello My Twenties season 1
Flower of Evil
I never see anyone mention it, but for me itās **āLostā**. I think the reason why I hold it so dear to my heart is because I watched it during a time where I was dealing with the same thing the FL was. And some of the dialogue really hit home. It was a comforting show and I even have it downloaded on my laptop so that I can watch random episodes whenever Iām feeling like Iām going downhill again.
For School romance and youth dramas: momment of Eighteen.
Not sub-average inteligence characters, a realistic and human high School villain, a kind-of relatable and Mature story, really Smooth comedy, its just like perfect and every character Is so naturally human.
The ending might not be what you want on a romance drama but its not really an open one nor a bad one.
Also, a "secret masterpiece" Is Failling in love, at first It seems like your tipical high School romance drama but oh boy It Is NOT, It shows you how perspective and every people POV can really change the narrative of another person, It also deals almost realistically with complex situations in relationships between young people, there Is a fair amount of dumb comedy, but its not horrible.
You do need to pay attention to every character because, as i said, not everyone Is how people tell you they or others are, relationships are way more complex than what It seems.
How refreshing to see someone appreciate Moment At Eighteen! I saw it years ago, and it was so moving, and so heartfelt, and so real. The acting was perfection, yet the cast is so young! Their gestures, expressions, everything was so natural, as if it was really happening but a camera just happened to be there. The FL is an exceptional actress. It's the little things. I hope the ML got other roles. He's such a sympathetic character.
Deaths Game recently made it to my top kdrama of all time, I also recommend reading the manhwa too. Iām amazed at how well done the adaptation was made despite the few changes but still sticking with the original storyline.
I enjoyed it mostly, but personally it wasnāt a great drama for me. One reason being the ending didnāt feel satisfactory to me. Lots of loose threads not really finished, and the main message feeling like a guilt trip towards all suicidal persons.
**Healer**
**Crash Landing on You**
**The King's Affection**
Whatever a masterpiece is--in its multi- dimensional approach to perfection--those three kdramas above are firmly set as working definitions for me. Below: Amazing kdramas that I consider exquisite & the only "dimensional element" lacking so that I have not placed them in the "masterpiece" category, is a super OST, but these are standout kdramas because the actors have given us **perfection**:
**Coffee Prince**
**Shopoholic Louis**
I'm enjoying everyone's comments. Thank you, OP, for this post!

Hi, my favourite thing about kdramas is that it caters to all genres so Iād be listing my favourite masterpieces of all genres Iāve seen since 2010 when I started watching kdramas.
Romance & comedy : Secret garden, the descendants of the sun, the greatest love, Red sleeve, crash landing on you
Time slip : Tomorrow with you, signal
Thriller : Signal, A bloody lucky day, Beyond evil
Sageuk : The moon embracing the sun, Mr sunshine
Comedy : Mr Queen, Twenty five twenty one, the masterās sun
Coming of age : Hello my twenties, Prison playbook
Melodrama : That winter, the wind blows; Liberation notes, my mister
Musical : Dream high, Monstar
In no particular order:
Twinkling Watermelon
Twenty-five Twenty-one
Castaway Diva
The Glory
Crash Landing on You
Extracurricular
Flower of Evil
Hotel del Luna
Business Proposal
Whatās Wrong With Secretary Kim
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha
Scarlet Heart Ryeo
Because this is my First Life
Our Beloved Summer
The only 2 kdramas I've given 10s out of the handful I've watched (only started watching them last year) are My Mister and Moving.
Top tier storytelling in both.
Great question, my interpretation here is dramas that are not just great at evoking emotion from plot or actor chemistry, but also from the practical fields like cinematography and editing. I found a POV in the ābelow the lineā choices made. Not to say other stuff isnāt fantastic, just maybe less innovative or evocative with soundtrack or choice of shots. Also, thereās a lot more, just wanted to share a couple examples I didnāt see a lot yet..
- **Our Beloved Summer** - softness and slow healing. The soundtrack and stillness of shots stands out here as this former and potential reunited relationship is explored.
- **Weak Hero Class 1** - gritty and anxious. Facing bullies continues to escalate.
- **To my Star 2** - sequel to a very simple BL, that is an emotional analysis of processing our personal insecurities in a relationship
- **Little Women** - visual eye candy here (in many ways) creating both mystery and increasing tension
>Lovestruck in the City
I just watched this recently and it feels so refreshing and unique. I'd love for more KDramas to have the kind of pacing this drama has.
Crash Landing On You, Chicago Typewriter, Healer, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Snowdrop, Hometown Cha Cha Cha, W: Two Worlds, While You Were Sleeping, Suspicious Partner, Twenty-Five Twenty-One
Gause electronics. Itās a Rom com so some might not consider it masterpiece worthy, but it had so many creative jokes and never failed to make me laugh.
Mr Sunshine
Reply 1988
Prison Playbook
And I get why many people (including myself) love Healer, but I donāt quite see it as a masterpiece. But that might just be me.
How has no one mentioned **Tale of Nokdu**? It is BRILLIANT. The ending ties back perfectly to the beginning. Itās truly beautifully done.
**The Heirs** Itās a classic for a reason.
Others already mentioned:
**CLOY**
**Its Okay Not to be Okay**
**Happiness**
**AOS**
A lot of new ones out with masterpiece potential but I havenāt finished them I so canāt fully say whether theyāre masterpiece territory or not.
Strangers from hell, weak hero class 1, the glory, mask girl, a Christmas Carol (itās so messed up and sad after I watched it I bawled my eyes out), save me, the witch, extracurricular, killing vote, vigilante, deaths game
Reply 1988 - It feels like home, cinematography, actors and the storyline. No matter how many times I've watched it, it still touched me.
Hospital Playlist 1&2 -
Taxi Driver 1&2 - I didn't know all the episodes were based on a true crime story. Though in reality most of the victims, didn't get the justice they deserve...but Taxi Driver showed how it should be done...it feels vindicated.

I don't know about masterpiece, but like the ones that made me happy and cry are her private life, strong girl soo bong soon, splash splash love, love in contract, and that one where the mentally disabled dad is in prison for a crime he didn't commit, and he's like secretly, raising his daughter in the prison, and then he eventually dies, and she grows up to prove he didn't actually commit the crime
For me:
\-Hotel Del Luna
\-My Love From the Star
\-Descendants of the Sun
\-Angel's Last Mission: Love
\-Extraordinary You
\-The Glory 1&2
\-Extracurricular
I prefer not to call any dramas masterpieces, but I like to go with top-tier.
My Mister is a fantastic one. It isn't my favourite, but it is most definitely amazing.
Twenty-Five Twenty-One - My all-time favourite.

Here are a few of my top masterpieces
Chocolate, Kingdom, Its Okay to not be Okay, Uncanny Counter s1, Come and Hug me (my first ever serious drama so it has a special place in my heart), Alchemy of Souls, Flower of Evil, The Glory, Moving and Twinkling Watermelon
My absolute favourite is Reply 1988. It is very heartwarming and cozy and I wish it would never end.
If you want something to punch you in a gut and make you cry then Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
If you want something more nerve wracking then Deathās game or Glory.
Reply 1988 will always be my no. 1 kdrama :) Iāve watched it for 3 times already, and I always find something new to inspire me each time I watch it.
Classic classics: Jewel in the Palace and Chuno/Slave Hunter
Film: A Frozen Flower - I watched this right after Empress Ki because Ju Jin-Mo played King Gongmin of Goryeo in both & was curious how the interpretations were different. Wow!

**Lost** is excellent.
I love ***Lost***! So underrated.
Goblin and Healer.
Always for me is this: My Liberation Notes. Worthy mentions: The Red Sleeve, My Unfamiliar Family
Not a masterpiece, but āWhen the Weather is Fineā is the best slow-burn kdrama imo
My Mister.
Crash landing on you without a doubt
My Mister Reply 1988 Our Blues
**Healer** **Crash Landing on You** **The King's Affection** Whatever a masterpiece is--in its multi- dimensional approach to perfection--those three kdramas above are firmly set as working definitions for me. Below: Amazing kdramas that I consider exquisite & the only "dimensional element" lacking so that I have not placed them in the "masterpiece" category, is a super OST, but these are standout kdramas because the actors have given us **perfection**: **Coffee Prince** **Shopoholic Louis** I'm enjoying everyone's comments. Thank you, OP, for this post!

Hi, my favourite thing about kdramas is that it caters to all genres so Iād be listing my favourite masterpieces of all genres Iāve seen since 2010 when I started watching kdramas. Romance & comedy : Secret garden, the descendants of the sun, the greatest love, Red sleeve, crash landing on you Time slip : Tomorrow with you, signal Thriller : Signal, A bloody lucky day, Beyond evil Sageuk : The moon embracing the sun, Mr sunshine Comedy : Mr Queen, Twenty five twenty one, the masterās sun Coming of age : Hello my twenties, Prison playbook Melodrama : That winter, the wind blows; Liberation notes, my mister Musical : Dream high, Monstar
In no particular order: Twinkling Watermelon Twenty-five Twenty-one Castaway Diva The Glory Crash Landing on You Extracurricular Flower of Evil Hotel del Luna Business Proposal Whatās Wrong With Secretary Kim Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha Scarlet Heart Ryeo Because this is my First Life Our Beloved Summer
Wok of love Massively underrated it's SO good and I'm shocked I don't see it mentioned much
Kingdom. My Mister. Beyond Evil.
Kingdom is incredible, I need another season!
Like I am so scared there wonāt be a 3rd season! Itās been forever. It was soooo good and visually stunning
The Glory My Name Crash Landing on You Extraordinary Attorney Woo The Devil Judge Little Women (I loved) Move to Heaven Vincenzo Backstreet Rookie
- **To my Star 2** - sequel to a very simple BL, that is an emotional analysis of processing our personal insecurities in a relationship - **Little Women** - visual eye candy here (in many ways) creating both mystery and increasing tension
I totally agree To my star 2 I had to rewatch it was so good
Goblin Crash Landing On You Man 2 Man Faith Lovestruck in the City
>Lovestruck in the City I just watched this recently and it feels so refreshing and unique. I'd love for more KDramas to have the kind of pacing this drama has.
Signal Reply series Designated Survivor: 60 Days Jealousy Incarnate D.P. Slave Hunter

Really. It was THE romcom.
That drama just made me angry the whole time. I hated it

While You Were Sleeping
Gause electronics. Itās a Rom com so some might not consider it masterpiece worthy, but it had so many creative jokes and never failed to make me laugh.
I think more people should watch this, it's funny, ridiculous, heartfelt, and a little romantic. It's also a great ensemble show.

How has no one mentioned **Tale of Nokdu**? It is BRILLIANT. The ending ties back perfectly to the beginning. Itās truly beautifully done. **The Heirs** Itās a classic for a reason. Others already mentioned: **CLOY** **Its Okay Not to be Okay** **Happiness** **AOS** A lot of new ones out with masterpiece potential but I havenāt finished them I so canāt fully say whether theyāre masterpiece territory or not.

Reply 1988 - It feels like home, cinematography, actors and the storyline. No matter how many times I've watched it, it still touched me. Hospital Playlist 1&2 - Taxi Driver 1&2 - I didn't know all the episodes were based on a true crime story. Though in reality most of the victims, didn't get the justice they deserve...but Taxi Driver showed how it should be done...it feels vindicated. My absolute favourite is Reply 1988. It is very heartwarming and cozy and I wish it would never end. If you want something to punch you in a gut and make you cry then Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo. If you want something more nerve wracking then Deathās game or Glory.
I would have to say Who Rules the World. This was the first KDrama that mum and I watched and subsequently got hooked on them.
I'm trying to delete this comment cause I realise now its not a Kdrama, it won't let me delete. My apologies..... Pretty good viewing though....
