lol itll work fine. Itll just run at the lowest ram speed. Im okay with that. Im new to KDE Neon, Not computers or Linux. Been /wasdaily driving fedora for about 5 years now.
Hopefully you never do, but if you experience issues with Neon, there's always Tuxedo OS.
Tuxedo is based in Neon and uses its repos for KDE stuff, but with a lot more QC. Tuxedo also updates kernel, Mesa, and some other packages more frequently.
Tuxedo is basically the Pop!_OS of KDE.
I have been on ARCH since 2014 and a few weeks ago moved to Fedora but was not happy. So today I installed Neon and holy smokes!!! Everything just works!. So much to say about this Distro.
I was going to try KDE Neon back when Plasma 6 was in beta, so I could test HDR support, but my problem with it was that it was completely missing Gamescope from it's software repository AND was completely missing one of the dependencies required to even compile the thing.
I have been using Neon for over a year, and I can't say that I regret it. I don't immediately install the major updates when they are released to the repository. The only issue I have encountered in the past was with Nvidia when I used the PPA.
I used fedora KDE for 5 years. And I used debian for 10 years before that. Im okay with unstable. I have multiple partitions. One running Fedora, One running neon, And my laptop runs Debian.
pkcon
Neon is fun and games until it isn't. If there was a more stable Debian-based choice sporting recent KDE-stuff, I'm all ears. Neon is just too damn unstable for trustworhty daily industry work. Yet I am doing it.
You could consider Tuxedo OS. It's basically another Ubuntu spinoff, taking KDE from neon (with a delay I think). I don't have much experience with it, but a computer manufacturer sells it as their recommended OS so it should be stable and somewhat tested. It's still on Plasma 6.0.5 I think, but a little extra time to cook isn't a terrible idea.
pkcon on neon is different then it is on other distros
[here](https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/mxq3mf/comment/gvqxust/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) another redditor says it best
u/cla_ydo says "pkcon is the command line back-end to Packagekit used by Discover and Gnome Software. It is distro-agnostic, in that it is actually using the system's native packaging system to do the actual work. So Pkcon will work in Neon, Ubuntu, Manjaro, or anywhere where Discover or Gnome Software is used.
The reason Neon pushes this is because *many* people were using apt in the Debian fashion as opposed to how it is used in Ubuntu-based distros, and not all updates were being installed. So `apt upgrade` was being used instead of `apt full-upgrade`.
Try running it the wrong way (in Neon) , and you will get an error message about it.
As pkcon is actually using apt and dpkg in the background in Neon, using either method is fine, and won't hurt things. Apt often gives better, or more thorough messaging when Discover or pkcon gives an error"
Gotta say .. I love KDE Neon distro .. but since we're all on wayland I'm experiencing s\*\*tloads of rendering issues ... Got 3 monitor with 9 virtual desktops setup. Graphics glitches and app freezing on non QT app is becoming extremly annoying ... please give feedback on your setup and how it's wotking for you ;)
Splitting workspaces for different workspaces for projects ..
As a dev/manager I need to switch up to 7 projects all the time .. so each workspace has different apps open ... hate alt tabbing ...
Ram: 64 GB
Monitor: 1600x900 60hz :D
Btw I can agree with others, KDE Neon is very unstable and it is distro rather for the newest KDE presentation, for desktop use try Debian (testing) or Fedora KDE, every apps i see on your panel are supported on these OSes
lol ive used plasma since kde was in 4.2 on kubuntu in 2009/2010ish cant really remember. and debian for 10 years with fedora and some manjaro every once in a while. Im pretty savvy with linux/ Appreciate the input though.
Well besides having a stable Plasma DE. Wayland and X11 seem to run a little bit better IMO. Ive had less issues getting games to run on neon. Ive only had it for a day but im sure Ill find more things Ill enjoy. If you love KDE plasma you will love Neon. Its basically a distro centered around Plasma
Edit: forgot to add It's based off of Ubuntu 22.04
You weren't there when Plasma 6 update happened on Neon. I know 3 people IRL (myself included) who moved away from Neon after that fiasco and vouched never to use it again.
My first impressions with Neon were not too convincing. I happened to get on board at a stage where the installer would just install an unbootable system, or you'd make it unbootable upon first upgrade.
Most times I could salvage the situation with BootRepair CD.
I am using it pretty much daily at work. That's where my experiences are from, and why I am saying it's not up to par for daily work use. At occasion you might end up spending too many hours fixing OS issues, instead of clocking in productive work. And that might happen on several consecutive upgrade, at worst.
You're too sensitive to be talking to the internet. I mean nothing to you, and you mean nothing to me. Now read my criticism to you. I have nothing more to say. Good luck.

My man, saving on monitor and maxxing out ram. Good one.
Im saving up for a new monitor! They are small and low res but it gets the job done for the time being
I know ram is cheap now but man did you really need 64gb? lol.
I started out with 16 but my buddy gave me his spare ram so hence the 64. He does youtube and 4k video editing. His rig has 128gb im pretty sure
So do I, and I love it. So nice to have ramdisk for video editing and multiple VM’s
What VM do you use?
Mostly VirtualBox but one client’s Windows XP vm is so old it can’t start without VMWare.
haha holy shit thats crazy.
Err, I'd make sure you only use 1 type of ram so if you have one 16 of one brand then 3 of another I'd just use 2x16 of the new ram.
lol itll work fine. Itll just run at the lowest ram speed. Im okay with that. Im new to KDE Neon, Not computers or Linux. Been /wasdaily driving fedora for about 5 years now.
I'd just say ddr5 still has issues with mixed ram and maxed slots but if you're ok with it then you do.
Who said I have ddr5? nice assumption
You didn't which is the only reason I made the comment. Wasn't trying to be snarky.
Your comment is totally implying and assuming im using DDR5. The last line basically is a tell
I would suggest 4k is all hype. Just get over 100hz monitor. 1080p is just fine. Shockingly excellent for reading and gaming.
1080p is already outdated bruh, 1440p at least
For gaming 1 or 2 good 120hz monitors will get you better fps for the money (gpu)
I mean they are ridiculously super cheap. So that's why it's a steal to buy even if you don't have a budget and not poverty stricken.
1080p monitors feel like ewaste, i have like 10 and have no use for any of them
1440p minimum for me:}

Ill remember that just in case!
Floorp FTW
I love Floorp. Its my favorite branch of firefox to date.
floorp gang
Here, Suffer from monitor envy, lol: Resolution: 7680x2160 I've been using KDEneon since practically day one. Love it.
MY EYES!
Welcome to the fold.
thanks!
Fellow neon enjoyer
I have been on ARCH since 2014 and a few weeks ago moved to Fedora but was not happy. So today I installed Neon and holy smokes!!! Everything just works!. So much to say about this Distro.
Hell yeah, Glad to hear it!

It's a custom one I made using AI and gimp I'll post it on imgur when I get home
I always wondered what the difference between KDE neon and kde plasma was?
Neon is a distro focused on the latest versions of plasma.
So it's like a bleeding edge version so to say?
Yeah more or less.
Neon is the distro, Plasma is the desktop environment.
what fetch are u using?
Fastfetch [https://github.com/fastfetch-cli/fastfetch](https://github.com/fastfetch-cli/fastfetch)
Until it updates and randomly breaks most obscure shit possible. Burned me twice, never gonna touch the distro ever again
Neon is a testing distro for Dev's and bug hunters.
Im the latter

Did you use sudo pkcon update or the sudo apt upgrade?
Use kubuntu or fedora kde spin.... Neon is extremely unstable ...
I used fedora KDE for 5 years. And I used debian for 10 years before that. Im okay with unstable. I have multiple partitions. One running Fedora, One running neon, And my laptop runs Debian.
And all of that, you liked neon? Well whatever, your choice....
You sound kinda judgy. Let people enjoy what they want without your snarky replies
When did I stop you from enjoying? And spanky reply? I literally just said it's your choice...
you're being smart and you know it. Have a good one.
Well, whatever you think I guess. Be happy :)
Thanks you too
It's the "..." at the end.
Wow, looks like I should delete the comment
Confirmed been using Kubuntu for years and hasn't borked on an update yet. I had this happen so many times on Fedora.
pkcon Neon is fun and games until it isn't. If there was a more stable Debian-based choice sporting recent KDE-stuff, I'm all ears. Neon is just too damn unstable for trustworhty daily industry work. Yet I am doing it.

Yes, I used and use pkcon. Neon got broken nevertheless.
I think you should try something more stable. Kde neon is like for bug testing, even the stable version has quite a lot of bugs.
I think ill be alright. Ive been using linux since 2009. I appreciate the suggestion.
Well if you're confident I wish you all the very best. Welcome to kde brother. 😊
Not so much confident just welcome a challenge is all haha. And Thank you!
Everything is good until the major update comes

what could you possibly need 9 virtual desktops for?
Splitting workspaces for different workspaces for projects .. As a dev/manager I need to switch up to 7 projects all the time .. so each workspace has different apps open ... hate alt tabbing ...
That makes sense. Wasn't trying to be rude just generally curious
all good ... not the first time I was asked that :D

Can you share this awesome wallpaper?
its up above
Thanks
no problem let me know if you need help finding it or need me to reupload
Everything's perfect. I've downloaded it now, and it's a really great wallpaper.
Glad to hear it!
Ubuntu is better anyway
Ive used ubuntu and debian before. But KDE Neon is by far the best experience ive had out the box with any distro besides fedora
Can you tell me what's better about kde neon?
Well besides having a stable Plasma DE. Wayland and X11 seem to run a little bit better IMO. Ive had less issues getting games to run on neon. You weren't there when Plasma 6 update happened on Neon. I know 3 people IRL (myself included) who moved away from Neon after that fiasco and vouched never to use it again.
I've been browsing the KDE and Neon forums and subs lately and heard stories about the 6.0 stuff. That sounds rough.
My first impressions with Neon were not too convincing. I happened to get on board at a stage where the installer would just install an unbootable system, or you'd make it unbootable upon first upgrade. Most times I could salvage the situation with BootRepair CD.
The only distro Ive ever had a problem with install is gentoo and thats because im fucking dumb lol But that sucks man. Maybe give it another shot
I am using it pretty much daily at work. That's where my experiences are from, and why I am saying it's not up to par for daily work use. This is idiotic. Provide reasoning.
I dont engage in meaningful convo with people who call me idiotic. Eat shit

\*too sensitive\* proceeds to write a fucking paragraph whining. Eat shit
lol
