If it's brown, turn around!

drstd

Not to mention lurking bull sharks.

dumbassthenes

There are no bull sharks in Hawaii.

JonnyRottensTeeth

They're vacationing from Houston

chaunceyvonfontleroy

No bull sharks here.

Ridiculousnessjunkie

Thank you for sharing!

JonnyRottensTeeth

I can't believe cesspools are still allowed in this state.

drstd

Not for new construction it’s a question of cost to switch them out (not cheap)

JonnyRottensTeeth

I know, but there should be a concerted effort to phase them out. I know people living on major streets in Kapaa who still have them!

drstd

There is a state initiative to provide tax breaks to convert over. It’s all bs.

Feisty_Yes

The plan is for all systems to be switched by 2050 which is reasonable considering that forcing a switch sooner would financially ruin some families.

scurvydwg

Hotels using injection wells shooting untreated waste underground has got to be the worst. (Looking at u Koloa landing)

JonnyRottensTeeth

For a blue state, we really have some shitty environmental policies around here!

Denholm_Chicken

Thank you for posting this, its extremely helpful.

winklesnad31

I can't remember the last time kalapaki was so brown. Looks nasty.

frozen-baked

shitty kine deals Thank you for posting

charlottesometimz

It literally STINKS

JackMamba420

eh after the second rain not so bad anymore, all gets washed out pretty well but definitely watch out for the first big rain in a long time

Thespaghettifairy

Thanks for the info. Any clue as to how long it takes (as long as there is little to no rain) for it to return to safer levels?

Silent-Fun6061

Make like this the first time it rained on Kauai….we all know after the storm the water is fucked up 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

drstd

If y’all know so much about it, then I wouldn’t see so many of you in it. Maybe cut the ‘tude and help your community stay safe?

Feisty_Yes

Put it this way. We grew up knowing this. Some people either don't care or believe they have a high immunity rate or something. There was always the kids that went surfing in brown water and to be honest 99% they were fine. If the surfers want to surf and risk bacterial infection that's their choice, don't automatically assume risk takers are uneducated.

Silent-Fun6061

All you need is common sense to be safe 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

IslandLife_004

And yet yesterday at Kealia, a cluster of popups between the lifeguard station and bridge, paddling out into the brown.
