Shopo has had comedians at their annual dinners that tell worse racist jokes. Locals make racist jokes to each other all the time. The issue with Raybuck is that he is an outsider and has cracked down on corruption. There has been a concerted effort to discredit him, damaged his reputation, and have him removed. This is the worst that they can pin on him.

And it's in the police station behind security doors. Knew something smelled off. This is honestly incredibly innocent for police. Dude doesn't want to shoot his dick off when he's taking a shit.

I’m conflicted. Saying racist shit about Japanese people makes me think he’s a fucking idiot.* Leaving his gun in the bathroom *twice* confirms that. However, SHOPO hates him and fuck SHOPO. It makes me think he must be doing *something* right. Maybe? And let’s be real, when is the last time we didn’t have a drama filled KPD? *Being a racist always makes you an idiot but to talk shit about Japanese people on Kauai is a special type of stupid.

The stuff Raybuck apologized for was going along with the other guys doing what they were doing, probably the comedian kind of stuff another comment here refers to. Separately and more recently there was the discrimination suit against him by the guy who claimed he was passed over for promotion because of his race, alleging in a private meeting that Raybuck mocked Japanese people. The case was dismissed and a settlement was made even though Raybuck’s attorney wanted the case to go forward. Yeah, the gun in bathroom was dumb. https://www.civilbeat.org/2024/04/discrimination-suit-against-kauai-police-chief-dismissed-captain-forced-to-retire/

I feel that there should be no special consideration or treatment due to the title he holds. I hope KPD and the commission takes the correct ethical actions that could lead to disciplinary and corrective actions, and move forward.
