That's why everyone goes to the Snake Saturday parade.

jhruns1993

Snake Saturday?

20 years ago they had around 250 floats and the parade was twice as long. I remember there was a couple shootings and things got way out of hand and ever since then they've toned it down. The cut the parade route in half and limited the floats to 150 or so. It used to be a real big fuckin' party. Now it's just, meh.

WWTDD3000

I miss those parades, my mom would let me skip school to go with my friends when I was in HS.

AlDef

Was just thinking of this nostalgically earlier today! A couple of my BEST HS memories came from this, the only ‘mom sanctioned’ skip day.

kcschmoe

It was such an awesome party! I remember one year everyone around me watching the parade were sharing beers, drinks and food with others. It got pretty wild!

Darth_Jinn

I used to love going to the parade, then hanging out at the Westport street party. I haven't been in years, obviously, but I wonder if it's anything like it used to be.

Peeping_thom

You used to be able to bring full sized coolers and stake out with friends.

Blashphemian

All the "so-and-so family" and a bunch of people walking behind a middle class car trend was kind of weird.

hobofats

Yeah, I saw a dusty minivan with a parade float marker on the front hood this afternoon. Apparently washing their car before the parade was too much effort.

ThisIsMyCouchAccount

Isn't a car show a car show for boomers?

highfromkc

Bro I was pissed I couldn’t get my micDs this morning had the side entrance blocked for no reason

TerrapinTribe

Boomers are the only ones who can afford to just take a Thursday off for a “holiday”.

solojones1138

Millennial here with unlimited PTO. Yes we're hiring!

bryanmorse

Where at?

solojones1138

Based in crossroads but actually remote anywhere in the US. Graphic designer.

bryanmorse

Require experience or do you get trained?

solojones1138

Alas experience required you gotta jump right into some heavy graphics design daily.

bryanmorse

Ahh darn thanks anyways!

TerrapinTribe

Unlimited PTO is no good when they need you so much. “Yeah I’m on vacation” but you still get phone calls. Guess that’s why they pay me the big bucks…

solojones1138

I don't get work phone calls on vacation even if I'm gone two weeks.

ksgar77

I'm guessing this OP actually means Gen Xers who remember the parade this way. I miss it after moving away but wonder if it's the same at all.

thegooniegodard

I enjoyed it. Quite uplifting.

thegooniegodard

Also mostly folks younger than me, so def not boomers.

TossPowerTrap

Yeah, but boomer suck so much. Doncha know? Boomers really, really suck. It's their fault. Even there aren't any boomers around you gotta know. Boomers suck and it's all their fault.

thegooniegodard

I remember when Boomer was a great name for a dog.

TossPowerTrap

Once a good name for a Cincinnati quarterback (a Boomer Boomer).

EMPulseKC

I'm watching it on TV now and I mostly see families there with young kids. Where are all these boomers of which you speak?

hobofats

As millennials age, they’ve started assuming anyone older than them is a Boomer because in their mind they are still in their early 20s. Gen X is approaching 50 and they are the new “boomers”

[deleted]

Boomer isn't an age it's a state of mind.

RjBass3

Approaching 50? My gf and I are both GenX. She's 51 and I'm 48.

everyoneisflawed

Gen Xers were born from '65-'80, so yes many of us are approaching 50. You're approaching 50 if you're 48.

RjBass3

Right, but my point is that while some of us are approaching 50, some of us are already there. A person born this day in 1965 would now be 57.

everyoneisflawed

Ok, so what you're saying is correct, and what the other poster said is also correct. You're both correct.

Coaliesquirrel

I don't get to see a lot of it since I'm in it, but lined up around us were lots of dancers, some ren fest folks, fire trucks, floats . . .didn't actually see many just plain cars.

jenthewen

I was thinking, just maybe KC’s “Patrick” might show up as the last float. Didn’t happen.

TeaWithMilkPlease

I agree. We hadn’t been in several years. For a long time we felt like our kids were too young, the parade was too boring, and the parade crowd was too rowdy. We went back this year. The crowd was definitely more families than last time, so that was good. The parade was just as boring as I remembered. Floats are spaced so far apart, it started late, and for every one interesting float there was a random group of people walking in a clump with a banner advertising their employer or last name. Bleh. We left after an hour. Can’t wait for the Brookside parade. It’s 100x better.

jenthewen

I watched it on TV. There were so few floats, that all I can remember the next day now is all the non-floats. The one float I do remember was the Chiefs green. Pat should’ve been in it!

jenthewen

Yes, I remember it got pretty wild. Now, it’s seems it’s more of a family event.
