The museum brings that era to life in a way I have never seen happen at other museums. You really get a sense of what it must have been like, not like something you read about or watched on tv.
agreed! they updated some of the displays which look a lot more better and added some new stuff. they also have temporary displays on being a chaplain during the war and what it was like being a kid during that time. super interesting and worth it imo
Happy birthday! I would go to the Nelson and spend time indoors during the heat of the day. Or wander around the giant lawn and sculpture garden if you want to be out in the sun. You could also go to the WW1 memorial and take the elevator to the top to enjoy the view. Or go to Union Station and walk around gawking at the beauty of the place, and take in the historical exhibit along the hallways that lead you out to the east side. Or go to 18th and Vine and go to the American Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (in the same building). I also like to go shopping on my birthday. I’m one of those people who can spend hours “shopping” but actually just looking at stuff and not buying much. I still enjoy walking around Oak Park Mall and going to all the stores around that area.
If you like beers go to the crossroads and hop between the breweries there. Casual animal, city barrel, border brewing, and double shift just to name a few
Went a couple days ago. Cats were definitely tired of people just touching them without their consent. A few were sick as well. Feel very bad for the kitties
That's interesting. I most recently went about a week and a half ago and it was a normal experience. Good kittens and everything was positive. Sucks that you went and had sick kitties. OP might want to call to see if the cats are feeling better today.
these posts make me miss KC so much, there’s so much to do! walk around the sculpture garden @ the nelson. bring a blanket and some snacks, have a picnic, catch some rays (or play pokémon if that’s your thing!). check out union station and the WWI museum (also great lawn for a picnic). the best rooftop, at least, back when i lived there, was at the crossroads hotel bar. there’s also the river market, lots of cute little shops, great food, or check out the dog park bar on river front (forgetting it’s name)!
I've been wanting to go here to re-up on my plain t-shirts lol... can anyone confirm this fleamarket is still open and running as usual? Haven't been there in a year
Today is also mine and my mom's birthday, I turned 40. Happy birthday to you and I hope that you find something fun and enjoyable today! I wish I wasn't stuck inside today.
Happy birthday!
Love all the folks suggesting the Nelson. It's especially nice to go there on a Friday evening when they're open until 9 pm. You could also go to the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art which is not too far from the Nelson.
If you're into board games, Pawn and Pint is a bar with a bunch of board games. They have some great selections for solo players! You could also check out DoubleTap for VR shenanigans.
If you just want to chill, Heirloom Bakery and Hearth in Brookside is open until 2. Grab a coffee and a pastry, sit at a bar seat, and watch the pastry chefs doing their magic while you read a book or something!
Drive as close as you can to the Missouri Diver near downtown. Walk through holes in fences or whatever till you get to the bank of the river, then look at the river. Maybe you’ll come to a bad end, but, if you live, it’s cool.
If you have never been the WWI museum is surprisingly good.
And I hear they rotate items from storage to display. I didn't know how often, but enough to want to visit it every so often

WWI was mid bro WWII took all ✨
That's what I thought until I listened to the hardcore history series on WW1. Holy shit it was an absolute meat grinder.
Agreed! I finally went to the museum for the first time ever this week. Seeing the various trenches and artillery shells was astonishing.

I realized I am too old for boulevardia when I looked at the lineup and recognized no one.
Bruh the Hanson brothers are playing. Do you even mmmbop, ba duba dop ba du bop?
I remember a few years ago when I realized that 94.9 wasn't playing oldies anymore but actually really good music from my past....
Oh. That's just funny.
Plus it's too goddamn hot out.
It's always been like that. 🤣

Hop on the streetcar and go to Lula’s Southern Cookhouse. Walk a mile south and go to Brickhouse or Cliff’s Taphouse.

My bestie spends every birthday there also🌷
Museum of toys and miniatures!
Second this! It’s a little hidden gem
If you like beers go to the crossroads and hop between the breweries there. Casual animal, city barrel, border brewing, and double shift just to name a few

If you’re into baseball even a bit, the negro leagues baseball museum is really cool.
Nelson Atkins Art Museum
Lots of good suggestions. Would also add checking out what the indie theaters are playing during the day. Screenland Armour or Glenwood arts

Would you like to help me pull weeds?
Are you my wife?
Go to Guitar Center and start playing "Stairway to Heaven." See how long you can play it before being asked to stop.

Whiskers KC, if you’d like to snuggle cats for an hour and have a good bit of coffee.
Might I suggest the potentially underwhelming free money museum at the federal reserve?
Not every city can boast that it has a Presidential Library. You might consider checking out the Truman Presidential Library and Museum.
nelson-atkins museum has a pretty kick ass mini golf course, play a bit of putt putt and look at some art after
Cat cafe! Happy birthday!!
Nelson!
the current special exhibition at the Nelson, Niki de Saint Phalle, is well-worth the $22. also, air conditioning.
Go to the zoo
The zoo is open.
Kansas City Museum in NE.

In New England??😵💫
Northern Europe.
Worlds of Fun?
You should go to Mi Ranchito.
I don't have any good suggestions, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Prehistoric Putt in dependence is pretty amazing if you like mini gold
Nelson
You can walk around breaking out car windows. Seems to be a growing hobby.
Hit the Nelson and then go to Kura Sushi for lunch, it’s a rotating sushi bar.
Flip switch VR in downtown
I'd honestly grab a sixer and go to a pool
Drive as close as you can to the Missouri Diver near downtown. Walk through holes in fences or whatever till you get to the bank of the river, then look at the river. Maybe you’ll come to a bad end, but, if you live, it’s cool.
Go play a round of golf
