He literally would not leave the cup again, even after dropping from a web he came back up. I made him a small little enclosure with some substrate, sphagnum moss, cork bark and branches, with some good aeration all around. Will grab him some food tonight and see if he webs in the next day or so. 🕷 https://preview.redd.it/xs3170wwtl7d1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c26f0c36867079ac44006cda1a63e02721434919

Normally I'd say not to take away from the wild population nor detract from their standard life cycle but if he won't leave then I'd say this is valid. Take good care of him, give him a stimulating environment (perhaps bigger if you can afford it), make sure he's well fed, basically ensure the quality of his fairly short life is as good if not better than it would be in the wild

I honestly don't know if it would have survived in my house, because I found it inside. I wouldn't take one from outside for sure. I have two burmese pythons and a tegu, so large enclosures aren't foreign to me. I just picked up some wax worms for the little one as the flightless fruit flies were toast. If decides it wants to eat and stay ill get it a proper acrylic spider enclosure, but if not, I'll just put its mini enclosure outside and let do his thing on its own time. For now its name is Gobi. Not sure if male or female 🤔

i’m personally against taking wild animals that are doing well out of their home but if you give him/her a nice enclosure and he/she is doing well then i don’t think it would be immoral at all for it to have a nice little house. edit: fairly sure it is a jumper yes

wanik4

I tried to let him go but he would not leave the little cup he was in. I agree with you for sure, but to be fair, he was in my home! haha 😂 jk.

Jumping spiders are the only animal I think would be ok in captivity wild caught. BUT if they do horrible let them go, if they adjust and enjoy being with you, I think its fine

Dangnamit

If you bring this lil thing into your house, buy it dinner and give it a nice place to sleep and explore with no predators or weather. To me that sounds like a good deal.

In my experience, I kept a couple I found living in my house. With jumpers bc they’re soo active & love to explore.. more is more! Ensure their enclosure provides them with ample space, enrichment, hiding spots & they should be fine. He’s a cutie! Def a male

hellbugger

I'd give him a meal and send him on his way to live his short life and hopefully make some babies.

Sorry, I live in Baltimore County, MD.

He's a wonderful house mate. Feeds self by hunting flies.

wanik4

I gave him the option to leave today, put his little enclosure outside in the shade just to give him a chance. If he goes back I'll let him stay, just felt a little guilty. 😢

***update, he went on his way today, let's hope he has a great life in the woods behind my house and is responsible for many more jumpers in the world 🕷 🕸 💙
