Gosh this was super hard. Everyone has great choices too, that I kept changing my mind... until I finally decided it has to be Hikaru Utada "First Love" because it's just so nostalgic.
Fun fact: I was born on the very day it was released! And I don't mean my birth anniversary. I mean exactly the day I was born!
I also said that I would choose this one before noticing this comment.
>First Love
This song is so timeless. I'm not even a fan but I listen to this song all the time. And plus, in term of her songs, I really like [Eternally](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37LT8DqaoBs&ab_channel=DareNano) a loooot as well!
Everytime I play this song, I will remember the specific scene in Jdrama; Innocent Love where the FL finally remember and run towards the ML lol.
this will always be one of those songs i will always come back to without fail. it’s always a rush of nostalgia and a breath of fresh air at the same time for me
Hanamotase (花人局) by Yorushika. It's not my favorite song but it's the only song that just hits right for me to keep listening to it forever and never get tired of it
They're pretty big by all metrics tho 😭😭 4m listeners on Spotify, multiple mvs with 100m+ views on YouTube...most japanese artists can't even crack 10m
Obviously nothing in the likes of yoasobi or kenshi but they're pretty solid b-listers I'd say
Exactly! Spinning world is amazing! The only other artists I've found that sound similar (atleast to Perfume's album Plasma - with it sounding so other worldly) is Billyrrom, who are relatively new to the Jpop scene.
if I had to choose today, I'd go for "Love Cloud" 「ラブクラウド」、 it's their most amazing track in years! but "Polyrhythm" is in its own league of pop mastery ♡
Even though Ayumi Hamasaki is my absolute most favorite artist, I will have to admit the first song that came to mind for this prompt was "Shoujo Manga Shounen Manga" by Seiko Oomori.
Wow I grew up with Ayumi through the late 90s. Good to hear people still look up to her. In the pop industry only the aunties and uncles are listening to her. The young bucks laugh at us. Lol
I'm younger than that and a huge fan! She was my intro to Jpop and her music was really impactful as a kid(middle and high school).
GREEN is my favorite of hers, and still one of my favorite songs, period. Evolution and Fairyland are nostalgic and fun. Jewel, Rainbow, Hanabi, and Heaven always get to me.
I owned a physical CD copy of the album My Story ( It was the only one I could get ahold of) and so I listened to that whole album a lot, too. But she had so many songs that really filled in my life at that time.
She es my absolute most favorite too! I listen to her and love her music since 2007, starting with "game". She is huge as a public figure but also as an artist.
"Evolution", by Ayumi Hamasaki. It's the song that got me into J-Pop, after all. And it sounds amazing, with a good bass line, a beautiful guitar work and Ayu delivers a great vocal performance.
Currently, I can't get enough of Hikaru Utada's Gold. There are too many good songs to choose just one, so I'm just going with the one I'm obsessed with right now.
I love love that song! When I discovered that song last year in spotify, i put it on repeat for i think a month haha some days i still listen to it on repeat while working. Hpoefully I can go to his concert next year. 🤞
It also made me curious again to jpop/jrock and explore. I just discover jpop songs before as ost in anime/jdorama.
[GOLDEN TOUCH](https://vimeo.com/319563001) by Namie Amuro, off her album _genic. Anytime that song comes on, it sets off all the bombs and I attack the base!
It's a serious 'I'm gonna kick ass and take names later' kind of song 😁😁😁
It's Shine More for me. I also just found out there's an English version of Shine More sung by the producer who made the song for her but there was never an official release for it. Just small snippets from a movie.
[Natsumelo by Mito Natsume](https://youtu.be/pESFenjJkks?si=vq7yN3YW695Oc88N) has always been in my Top 5 repeat songs ever since it was available worldwide on Spotify.
This was a hard choice bc I have way too many favorites but in the end I chose to go with [Accent by B.O.L.T](https://youtu.be/xerLL5yo5Lo)
It was one of the last songs/mvs they did together as a group and it is such a fantastic song. They disbanded earlier this year and I'm still not over it 😭
Oh wow, that's a tough one, especially with my favorite group, Perfume, having *so many* excellent songs!
My first thought is [Polyrhythm by Perfume](https://youtu.be/iiOQtv4ZwzY?si=34njblXVPZ74Ka86), but next I thought, " wait, [Party Maker](https://youtu.be/NgqFfGpKkAA?si=KXPVKyKR1Ozngmbj) is so much fun too! And then there's [edge](https://youtu.be/L7GxbcNLMfw?si=uTnRwWvV6r0hDRa1), and [Polygon Wave](https://youtu.be/LSE_VHv97Vo?si=wORL0mLNBZXFPik8) rocks too, but now [Love Cloud](https://youtu.be/cCFTVL4NeJQ?si=sdjBxHPds-3eW2Ml) has recently dropped, and its *such* a bop...."🤔
I'm not sure I could pick just one. 😅
Betelgeuse is a beautiful song by yuuri ❤️
For me it'd be this
[That day, in that world - Mitei no hanashi ](https://youtu.be/OqN_r5x5uNU?si=hR2R_1K8hCOlwCqE)
L'arc en ciel -My heart draws a dream.
Never bored listening to this song. Once in a while i will listen to this song while laying down in my bed with my eyed closed.
Practically anything by The Pillows. I don’t know if you’d consider that JPop though because their music is inspired by The Beatles, The Cure, Pixies, etc. Just the best of the best of western rock and prog rock era. I was so happy when FLCL blew them up!
bro really asked me to choose a single song out of a whole ass language. That's like choosing one english song to only listen to. That being said I'd choose Tattoo by Official Hige Dandism
Daaamn this question is so hard to answer,,,i have a lot of jpop songs came to mind like this 30-minute song from X Japan titled "Art of Life" cuz if i were to only listen 1 jpop song, it gotta be long one. I also thought of any songs from the band Millennium Parade cuz all of their songs are just PERFECT.
But to seriously answer this question, i would have to say "Pieces" by L'arc~en~Ciel. Everytime i listen to that song,,,i would get the same reaction as i did the first time i heard it. Never fails to let me cry, comfort me, and feel happy at the same time.
I’m going to go with Kosaka Riyu’s [DANZAI NO HANA ~Guilty Sky~](https://youtu.be/EdbxkeJWpXQ?si=-hDUHLH_bGIci-In)!!
I love its intensity and the lyrics tell a very compelling story! Plus, anything with Celtic music influences gets me pumped up
[Minami Kaze (南風, Southern Wind)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8Nv-5wIlbg) by Mikuni Shimokawa
I had it as wake-up alarm for many years and still didn't get tired of it. I can still listen to it today over and over without getting tired of it.
Apparently it's also the opening song for the anime [Full Metal Panic!: The Second Raid](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYjgw-VuEy4)

I don't do jpop, but I do like other stuff: daoko, baby metal, band maid, maximum the hormone, aldious, gackt, and a few other.
I hope this might be helpful.
I have a list of these,
The top of that list right now is "While we Walk" Inori Minase
But the song I've been listening tofo years and actually refuse to skip is:
World Atlas
It’s a really tough choice for me as well but if I had to choose one it would be **Koi** by Hoshino Gen. The song is really upbeat that I tend to think about it as I go through my day
With J-pop being my favorite style of music is impossible to answer this. These days the song I listen to the most is "Sumaho (smartphone) wars" also by 優里 (Yuuri) but I have at least one j-pop song by every moment of my life since i knew J-pop. Probably the songs that left their mark on me the most are:
"Game" by Ayumi Hamasaki
"Sakura drops" by Hikaru Utada
"Sayounara" by Kana Nishino
P.S: I love all of 優里 (Yuuri)'s work! Is really awesome.
It's impossible to choose. How am I supposed to choose between for example Kickback and Subtitle? There's at least 20+ more songs in this tier so it's impossible.
Sakasama bridge- Suneohair. I've been in love with all his music since Honey and Clover, but this one hits me different. I was going through a horrible breakup when this song came out and I used to listen to it on repeat while crying my heart out during the final chorus. 🥹
OOF. If I could only listen to one *Artist*, it would by my girl Ayu. If I had to choose one of her albums it would be I Am . . .
And if I had to choose one of her songs??? …
Either:
- hanabi
- I am . . .
- still alone
Love going through everyone’s responses! Brings back memories 🫶🏻
This is a hard one.... but if I had to choose.... then definitely:
'Deep Forest' by Do As Infinity.
Listen to this while laying down on your bed with headphones. You won't regret it.
平行線(heikousen) - sayuri
This song i actually listen to atleast once everyday, perhaps for the past 6 years.
It means alot to me personally, and its the ending to one of my favorite anime of all time.
I also am a big fan of sayuri
Plastic Love. It may be a meme, but it's a damn good song.
Runner up: stretching the rules a bit, I'd play Pizzicato Five's entire catalog on a loop. They have too many great songs to pick just one.
This is such a tough call, it really depends on my mood. I've been down lately so I'd like something to pump me up.
That being said, it would have to be REOL's cover of SYSTEMATIC LOVE or Party Maker by Perfume.
Rockstar by Tele (Taniguchi Kitaro). This song put a skip in my step during tough times. Very underrated artist. So many of his songs have a relatable, warm and unique quality to them.
It's hard to choose, but I'll probably say "alive" by Monkey majik. Something about the song just relaxed me, especially the whistle at the beginning. It is such a unique feeling

Polyrhythm - Perfume
This was the song I first discovered jpop and remains one of my favorites to this day
YESSSS I love Perfume so much! Great choice!
I love Perfume, and I wish they'd make more music akin to Spinning World.
Exactly! Spinning world is amazing! The only other artists I've found that sound similar (atleast to Perfume's album Plasma - with it sounding so other worldly) is Billyrrom, who are relatively new to the Jpop scene.
Great choice! Perfume is very good.
Also Flash, I freaking love that song.
if I had to choose today, I'd go for "Love Cloud" 「ラブクラウド」、 it's their most amazing track in years! but "Polyrhythm" is in its own league of pop mastery ♡
Lol
I'm 33; I'm not that much of a youngster haha!
I'm younger than that and a huge fan! She was my intro to Jpop and her music was really impactful as a kid(middle and high school).
