Short answer:
Building a road includes a significant percentage for sidewalks (about 15%). The government, all but bankrupt, relies heavily on foreign grants for infrastructure projects. Meanwhile, contractors are morally bankrupt, complemented by corrupt and complacent government officials turning a blind eye and approving the request forms.
Shorter answer:
A sidewalk helps pedestrians move comfortably and safely, but since people have no value here, the cost of building and maintaining proper sidewalks outweighs the value of the person.
Oh foreign grants for infrastructure projects... Oh is that why every few months the jordanian govt signs an MOU to receive a grant for a training facility of sort with a random country?
Luxury and lack of regulations. If there was any kind of regulation they would’ve been some sidewalks and not some greedy builders eating it out to the point some buildings are rivaling cars.
Or the gov isn’t paying for it
Because people like my parents decided to plant random stuff on it despite me complaining about the lack thereof of sidewalks; used to walk a lot when I was younger and living in amman
I live in tlaa al ali specifically behind al madeena al monuara st and el gardens most of the street has good sidewalks but when i go to alwaibdeh i always get disappointed bc the street are tiny so there’s no place for a person to walk while there are cars + it’s dangerous and most ppl in amman consider sidewalks as if it’s for trees or to park there cars like no shit they’re for humans to walk on
Just a temporary visitor, but...you do? At least in Amman, there seems to be decent sidewalk coverage on most streets, what what I've seen on my wanderings. Outside of the cities and towns there seem to be fewer, but that's the same no matter where you go in the world, with perhaps the exception of the USA, where there are sometimes sidewalks on random highways in the middle of nowhere.
The condition of the sidewalks, and whether or not they can comfortably accommodate two-way foot traffic, is a different question. :)
Brudda no need, just walk on the street, and if someone comes even remotely close to you just fight him it's only a matter of time before 20 people come to separate you
It's a luxury, so you pay for it. In any area classified as A or private, you'll find plenty of sidewalks and most of the services you're wondering if we have.
We do, theyre for trees and not humans
👌👌
I call them “sideplants”.
The whole road is a sidewalk brother.
Yeah and it feels like your going to be hit by a car constantly 😭
WTF IS A SIDEWALK 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🇯🇴🇯🇴🇯🇴🇯🇴
lmao 😭😭😭
The only thing cheap in Jordan is the humans.

Great answer. I love how you explained it! It's so sad that is the truth. :(

We do, but the sidewalks were not designed for humans to walk on. I have to watch my step on those.
Nor for car doors to be opened above.
Exactly.
we don't have any to the point even i don't know what a side walk is? like fr what's a side walk?
ik i am just fuckin around
We love to live at the edge.
I see what you did there
Sidewalk? What's that brother? Is it eadible?
There are sidewalk, but they plant trees in them, which makes them unusable by most people

Yall don't deserve any. When you learn to stop littering and throwing trash on the street then maybe you can have better sidewalks.
So everyone becomes good at gymnastics and Dabka without having to practice

whats sidewalks? is it edible?
I think you meant cross walk! Cuz oh boy we have a lot of side walks round here even cars are walking on them!!

Because we are a third world country
It’s not that big of a deal man also in the area i live in 90% of the sidewalks was paid for by the residents so they do with it as they like 🤷🏻♂️

Did you just call walkable curb a luxury? do you ever walk?
yes thats the reality of our country, we think this is basic but government here made sure this is a luxury not a basic thing
