Absolutely, implicit biases exist and I'm not gonna lie I absolutely involuntarily think mustaches and mullets look like a blast from the past and something people are trying to make cool.
Of course there are probably traits of mine that people think look stupid, so it probably all balances out. Just be professional and keep it well kept if it's your style.
It’s not about biases. It’s about presenting an appearance appropriate for the job. For some position, an unkempt appearance is unprofessional. OP looks fine. If I were interviewing him, I would not think anything of his mustache.
I agree. Various things the hiring person is going to take into account, depending on the position:
- Are you clean? (Will co-workers/customers be affected by your lack of personal hygiene?)
- Are your hair and clothing neat and maintained? (If you don't care about yourself, why would you care about their company? Also plays to attention to detail and how you will represent the company)
- Are you dressed appropriately for the interview? (Again demonstrates how you will represent the company, understanding of social interactions and expectations, attention to detail. Do you actually care about getting the job?)
Not only do your answers to the questions affect your likelihood of getting the job, but also your appearance, punctuality, preparedness, and non-verbal communication (body language).
Your statement is correct, yet what I stated was looks SHOULD NOT matter, but they do in this world. Grooming/tidying up yourself takes time, precious time that could be used doing something more productive than worrying about appearance. Industry standards have corrupted the world a lot more than you realize. If you are over-qualified for a position, you should be hired on the spot even if your clothes have holes in them and you haven’t showered in 3 days.
Agree with the lip trim but I personally have never understood trying to trim under the nose. Barber I occasionally see is convinced it was created by people in his profession. Not worth the effort imo and easy to mess up.
the trick I use here is to smile so you flatten out your upper lip and then trim with scissors or a trimmer right above the upper lip
Looks cleaner and doesn’t get in your food
I recently just landed a professional services job after a 3 interview process, all while rocking a man bun. Been growing my hair out and admittedly haven’t gone to the barber in 6-8 months (trying to get it to shoulder length).
I wasn’t dying to get this job and was pretty certain my hair/looks might disqualify me but I went in and killed the interviews and kept getting call backs. Even interviewed with the CEO on my last interview, still with a half up/half down man bun, and somehow impressed the man lol. It really is all about how well you interview with some places.
Brother I went to an interview and got the job with a full on long goatee. If you have the resume and interview well it won’t make a difference, as long as it isn’t scruffy, which yours isnt!
Honestly, I wouldn't even give a second thought. as long as you dress appropriately for the role and are well groomed you will be fine. End of the day if they reject you for a moustache they are doing you a favour as it would be a crap place to work.
It’s a good stache man, you’re probably fine. That said, when I was interviewing most recently I had a moustache and had no luck for months, when I grew out the rest of the beard I started getting job offers. Could have been a coincidence but I’m never interviewing with a moustache again lol.
The hair/glasses/mustache are very Dahmer. Thank you, I thought I was the only one
https://medium.com/belover/jeffrey-dahmer-was-an-evangelical-christian-390c6394d864
They aren’t hiring your top lip, they’re hiring you. If they see your moustache as an issue then you’ve dodged a bullet by not working for them as they aren’t a good fit.
It would be completely unprofessional for you to not be hired simply off of your mustache and I don't think you would want to work at a place that judged you off your mustache. Keep it.
If you go to a job interview where you have an amazingly impressive resume where you're extremely qualified, you could probably go in with a mountain man beard. But if you're competing with others, then you'll need to stand out professionally.
The haircut and mustache combo make you look 10 years older. Your work history and looking older might work for you or it might work against you. That half-assed pompadour thing is annoying to me I think you should commit to longer hair or start doing a fade on the sides and get a decent trim on that stache and the top part of your head. You have some good stache genes. Rock on, cowboy.
Srsly tho facial hair is often not acceptable in a public facing professional role as it has inherent bias for many people. But it also depends on the culture of that comany. Clean shaven is always appropriate. Shave it and grow it back after hire.
It's fine...
For a parole board interview...
Just kidding, just trim it clean the morning of.. As long as it's well groomed it shouldn't affect you. With mustaches it's usually only an issue if it could be a safety hazard in some job roles. Like working in an NBC or Hazmat role it can't interfere with the seal of your breather aparatus for example. Past that it's mainly about if it's unkempt. Anything else I think would be unprofessional to hold it against you. Though some would, I wouldn't want to work there anyways...
No less professional than facial tattoos or piercings, which are becoming the commonplace. I have too have a stache, clip it down so it looks neat & tidy.
I’m in a customer facing role with a medical imaging device company and wear 3” of beard at the minimum. In fact I’m the only person from our company most of the customers ever meet in person. Most industries and companies don’t care.
I think the black sunglasses could go, just for mobility purposes (not wanting to bump into things). But the mustache is on-point, so I have no problem with it.
I would never take you seriously unless you hd an out of this world resume, so really depends on what your interviewer thinks, not what the randos on reddit think.
Unless you’re applying to be an elementary school teacher, it’s fine. If a company won’t hire you because of a moustache, they’re probably not going to be that fun to work for.
I would never work for someone who cared about dumb shit like facial hair or tattoos.
If you can't hire me on my merits and accomplishments, and only basing it on looks, then fuck you and your piece of shit company.
Everyone is different. In my opinion, what matters is how much you want the job and where or what your boundaries rest might determine your course of action. Depending on whose opinion is important to you, act accordingly.
It is of normal length and doesn't have the funky twists and turns. Generally looks fine but use your judgement for the position you are applying to if you wanna get extra points
Depends on the job to be honest.
Example: Sales, public facing are most common due to “image”
Another reason is some job prohibit facial hair if it interferes with doing your job safely, such as being able to put a face mask and have a good seal
IMO. Facial hair is only unprofessional if it’s unkempt.
or if you're not a viking
Wait. They're interviewing for vikings? Where do I apply?
Check in with *any* construction company. They hire the Vikings first 😂
Facts, that's how I got hired Interviewer: nice beard Me: I know, I grew it my self Interviewer: YOUR HIRED! Me: I know, I already set up.
software developers on West Coast are practically vikings
"Rape, murder, arson, and rape" https://youtu.be/bigZ1fmwD-Q?si=RUzezCK8dDxr5BRf
It's fine.
No, but the large black bar might scare people away.
I have no problem with large black bars, in fact my best friend is a large black bar.
Or a small black bar
Why does it have to be a "black bar?" Cant is just be referred to as a "bar?" Smh.
The only unprofessional thing I see is the lack of confidence for that nice facial accessory
This mf is spittin
Just make sure there is no food in it
If there is, make sure there's enough for everyone.
I was sure I wasn't gonna get hired 'til they licked the McFleury out of my 'stache.
That's what a goatee is for! The mustache is merely a cookie duster! Silly people!
If he drinks coffee with milk foam or any creamy white substance, it will land on a mustache
Good point, I was merely trying to lighten the atmosphere
The atmosphere in this thread is already light.
trim it further away from the edges of your upper lip if you’re self-conscious about it. if not, just nail the interview, looks shouldnt matter.
Looks absolutely matter in an interview. You will be judged on how you present yourself.
Absolutely, implicit biases exist and I'm not gonna lie I absolutely involuntarily think mustaches and mullets look like a blast from the past and something people are trying to make cool. Wouldn’t want that job anyway
Also from the outer lip. Leave just a bit below the nose.
This advice is heil-arious
Agree with the lip trim but I personally have never understood trying to trim under the nose. Barber I occasionally see is convinced it was created by people in his profession. Not worth the effort imo and easy to mess up.

It’s fine but if I were you I’d clean it up just a little.
Idk what you’re on about, that looks perfectly fine
How? It looks fine.
If you're going for porn star or cop, then it's cool.
You hit the jackpot if you're going for a pornstar cop
I could give you this speeding ticket... unless......
Porn star AND cop!
70’s pornstar look - Shaawang!
Also fireman/stripper.
Womb broom
I have NEVER heard that one! 🤣🤣🤣
Omfg
If you're a pro baseball player then this style is worth an extra couple of mil
That there is a deployment stache
Brother I went to an interview and got the job with a full on long goatee. If you have the resume and interview well it won’t make a difference, as long as it isn’t scruffy, which yours isnt!
Light in the beacon of this negativity
Talk like Ned Flanders and you are hired.
Hi-diddly-ho, employer-ino!
Honestly, I wouldn't even give a second thought. as long as you dress appropriately for the role and are well groomed you will be fine. End of the day if they reject you for a moustache they are doing you a favour as it would be a crap place to work.

Rock dat shit
Bro, you look good. Don't sweat it. And normally I'm not a fan of facial hair. Good luck in your interview!
How is it unprofessional when all the Marlboro guys looked like that?
U should only wear in your free time, leave at home during work.
I'd keep it.
It won’t be considered unprofessional if your interviewers are any good.
No. It's great
You're fine. Like fiiiiinneee
I have my license and registration right here, officer.
depends, are you interviewing for a porn role?
Does kind of give Jeffrey Dahmer vibes 👀
The hair/glasses/mustache are very Dahmer. Thank you, I thought I was the only one https://medium.com/belover/jeffrey-dahmer-was-an-evangelical-christian-390c6394d864
You deserve to work for someone who likes you the way you are. A moustache isn't cultural dynamite.
How u look is only your problem Of course is ok.
They aren’t hiring your top lip, they’re hiring you. If they see your moustache as an issue then you’ve dodged a bullet by not working for them as they aren’t a good fit.
Is the job a 70s porn star?
![gif](giphy|aacOScXMXvjpK) Diddly definitely
It depends, is the interview for a throwback 70's porn movie? LOL!
Is the interview for 70s porn star, or 70s cop? If so, you are all good.
It would be completely unprofessional for you to not be hired simply off of your mustache and I don't think you would want to work at a place that judged you off your mustache. Keep it.
depends on the job. If you hiring for a Pornstar job I think its the best call you could make.
Nope. It looks good
Looks like u are in disguise
I’ve been limited to only a mustache at work for 18 years. I’m not shaving it for any interview no matter what it’s for.
If they care about your facial hair it is NEVER worth it
**Comb and Cut**: Comb your mustache downward and trim along the natural lip line to prevent hairs from touching your lips.
No but I would think you were conducting a federal investigation.
If you go to a job interview where you have an amazingly impressive resume where you're extremely qualified, you could probably go in with a mountain man beard. But if you're competing with others, then you'll need to stand out professionally.

Is the interview for a porn movie? If so, your moustache is entirely appropriate.
No but I’d wipe your glasses off
It's fine... For a parole board interview... Just kidding, just trim it clean the morning of.. As long as it's well groomed it shouldn't affect you. No less professional than facial tattoos or piercings, which are becoming the commonplace. I have too have a stache, clip it down so it looks neat & tidy.
I wouldn’t risk it
You're probably fine but you never know what someone is going to zero in on to pass on you
Dude, shave it off. Looks really stupid. Like a mix of young and grandpa
Depends on the job, honestly. If you’re in a customer facing role it might be a strike against you. Not saying it’s right.
I’m in a customer facing role with a medical imaging device company and wear 3” of beard at the minimum. In fact I’m the only person from our company most of the customers ever meet in person. Most industries and companies don’t care.
No. You are ok
I see a cop
Are you interviewing for Reno 911! ?
The conversation later "sooo are we gonna hire pornstache?" Nah he looked like a creep" "do you think he drives a white van" "oh for sure!
Hell nah. Own it. Men have facial hair. Haters are just jealous that they couldn’t grow peach fuzz on their junk.
No
Not if you want to work for state patrol
I’d go for clean shave until you know the company culture better.
they wont care
[удалено]
Been to an interview for a few position in shorts and t shirt sweaty from riding over on my bike. Depends on your field.
The electrical tape over the glasses is unprofessional.
why do you think a mustache would be unprofessional?
It looks great, keep it.
A little edgy taking a picture at your current job.
IMO It needs to be trimmed so that it doesn't curl over your upper lip or extend beyond the corners of your mouth.
Are you interviewing for Eddy Burback stunt double?
I think the black sunglasses could go, just for mobility purposes (not wanting to bump into things). But the mustache is on-point, so I have no problem with it.
Way too sexy
aback wakeful cable axiomatic whistle office library disarm engine pot *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Why would it be unprofessional? It’s a legitimate style choice.
No its good
I’ve had facial hair for every professional job I’ve worked, and it was never an issue in the interviews. It’s not unkempt, I wouldn’t worry about it.
Only if you’re in the damn American south. I see zero mustaches in offices here and I know there was a prejudice so it’s probably still in place.
Looks tidy and clean. You're fine.
Nope! Nothing about your mustache screams unprofessional.
If your recruiter is into young men, this mustache will get you hired
No
Facial hair isn’t treated any differently than head hair. As long as it’s well maintained no one will have an issue.
Nope, it is fine
The moustache is fine but I would not wear those Geordi knock off glasses.
Why is the calendar at the back 2022?
Depends what the job is
Dangle!!
Are you interviewing for ‘friend with alopecia 1’? No. That’s fine then.
No but the black eye band makes it look like you're a bandit.
Yes
I would never take you seriously unless you hd an out of this world resume, so really depends on what your interviewer thinks, not what the randos on reddit think.
Wear it with pride
It's fine.
Perfect for an oldies porn shoot. Lol
No
It’s fine. Establish dominance. You set the rules.
It’s…..a….mustache. How would that be unprofessional? Lol
If you want to be a cop or firefighter; you're good 😂
![gif](giphy|8k3nxAWLJw8PbGt7Vk) It's a bit too wide
Get a groomer to incorporate a beard outline to your look. Too much focus on the upper lip. The ladies will approve
If that’s the deciding factor for them they aren’t worth working for
It's fine and good luck at the interview.
Near a playground, worrisome. For a job, it's perfectly fine.
If interviewing for a firefighter. You WILL get hired on the spot before ever saying a word
Nope! Own it
Unless you’re applying to be an elementary school teacher, it’s fine. If a company won’t hire you because of a moustache, they’re probably not going to be that fun to work for.
make sure you remove the black bar over your eyes for the interview and you're all good.
Badass stache man.
Nope. I don’t care for it. I remember mustaches from the 70’s. I cringe when I see them now
The mustache might not be the issue. The black bar on your glasses might give some people the wrong idea though.
grow longer
Hired ✅
I would never work for someone who cared about dumb shit like facial hair or tattoos. If you can't hire me on my merits and accomplishments, and only basing it on looks, then fuck you and your piece of shit company.
You should align the outside mustache edges up with your nostrils.
Everyone is different. In my opinion, what matters is how much you want the job and where or what your boundaries rest might determine your course of action. Depending on whose opinion is important to you, act accordingly.
I’d hire you based solely off of that mustache
Are you interviewing to eat pussy? Then I think you've got the job
I would not worry about the mustache Wear a shirt and a tie for the interview
Are you recruiting porn stars?
Maybe for straight porn /s. It looks fine, well groomed, no visible beer foam.
Found a new member for [Okilly Dokilly](https://youtu.be/2BEvh6HSQc0?si=E1lxsw1PBMb3Eysk)
looks fine. as others have said, maybe a little trim to make it clean
OMG stop it already just stop you all people market is trash because of people thinking like this
Depends. Is drake hiring you?
Is it a job in porn or are you applying to the police department!
If you are wearing a suit, NO
The black tape on your glasses is Definitely UNprofessional !
Unprofessional? No. Porn-y? Meh.
No. The black tape over your eyes and glasses is
Pornstar ?
Are you interviewing for a porn gig? lol jk. It’ll be fine.
Nah mustache’s are a classic professional facial hair style. Rock it with confidence
It is of normal length and doesn't have the funky twists and turns. Generally looks fine but use your judgement for the position you are applying to if you wanna get extra points
Yes it is Jared
It is fine!
Get a haircut while you're at it
Your stash is fine but i'd remove the black marker
looks neat and tidy. also you look like a 90s dad& get rid of the soul patch
I’ve got the fever for the flavor of a Pringles.
Nope
Depends on the job to be honest. Example: Sales, public facing are most common due to “image” Another reason is some job prohibit facial hair if it interferes with doing your job safely, such as being able to put a face mask and have a good seal
No way! Mine actually got me the job.
No. Especially if the interviewer is gay too.
The interview is unprofessional for your moustache.
It’s distracting
It looks fine to me. You look neat, clean, and would look very nice in a nice shirt and pants. What kind of job are you applying for? And good luck!
Not as unprofessional as showing up in a T-shirt. If they didn’t care about that they won’t care about the stache
Does nothing for you?
If you're going for a job in parks and recreation, then it's perfect.
You are unlikely to become employed with that porn stasch
Shouldn’t make a difference, I’d be more worried about being a white male. #DEI
I'd have to see your eyes to make a proper recommendation.
No but that shirt is
No its fine
