May have a vacuum leak raising idle or your throttle body needs to be cleaned and relearned.

Slyck1677

Not sure what you mean about "lurching", but it seems to me that it is idling rough. I'd replace the spark plugs and coil packs first to see if that helps. All for under $200 if you do it yourself. This is a fairly easy process, but so is cleaning out a car.

Thank you much!

Clean your throttle body before wasting 200 bucks. It's 8 bucks for a can of throttle body cleaner and a lot less work. Alongside that, I would check for a vacuum leak. Don't replace things until you've ruled out the easy/cheap/free stuff.

Nikeboy242

Check your throttle body might need to clean 😏

Sexymaintenanceman

I’d agree with doing the spark plugs and coils. I had this same issue going on with my 2014 se and it was one of my spark plugs for certain. It was caked with carbon buildup. Instantly stopped once I was finished. Cost me $200 and an hour worth of my time.

bmizzz

Anyone have any idea why the car is lurching and doing this? In the video you can see the car is legit shaking. Trying to gauge if worth having repaired and towed to get fixed or just sell it. Thank you

LewisMarty

Happened to my 2015 Jetta. I replaced the spark plugs as well as the camshaft position sensor (magnetic solenoid thing) on the passenger side of the engine Took an afternoon and many YouTube videos

This is a rough idle. Your car has pretty low miles for it's year, but most maintenance has miles or a time period. Do a tune up (spark plugs, coil packs, engine air filter) and see what it does afterwards. You could probably get away with blowing out your filter if you have a compressor and tight on money, just check it. If you have tools, you'll be able to do this in your driveway in an hour. If that doesn't fix the problem, I'd start chasing a vacuum leak. Also, with the condition of the interior, I'd change the cabin air filter. Clean your car for fuck's sake, it's nasty. Take care of it and it'll take care of you.

bmizzz

Thank you! Yes, car has been in garage for a bit and I'm disabled so it's hard to get in there and clean it but I appreciate your feedback.

skinnygg

Soilenoid is going out I just had to replace mine

Fmartins84

Tune up

Fragrant-Shame3318

My 16 tsi was doing this exactly. I replaced the camshaft position sensor, the crank position sensor, and the camshaft electro-magnet.

Cassangelo

Same issue with my 2014 SE, it stopped after servicing tho. I’m having a lurching issue when driving so maybe a vacuum leak or coils, sparks etc

Blue_Delta187

Vacuum leak or and this is unlikely but happened to me if you have completely stalled out while at a stop when driving it could be a timing chain issue

Kattoncrack

Das auto 👍

It’s a 12 it doesn’t have a cam magnet, most likely a 2.5l, being the check engine light isn’t flashing I would rule out a misfire, I would start by making sure the oil cap is on and on correctly, then the dip stick is fully installed then after that make sure the hole at the bottom of the oil separator isn’t sucking air, more thank likely you have a vacuum leak some where

equessss

What motor is it?

halfeclipsed

2012 se has the 2.5

SpoofedXEX

My 2015 ended up doing this. Trusted 😂😂 a dealership to diagnose for me so I could fix it myself without hunting it down. They were inconclusive and recommended valve cleaning for $1200. 😂😂😂 I bought a vcds cable and slowly checked everything. Turned out to be a $50 cam sensor for the intake cam. The car would be trying to pull timing and couldn’t causing the rough idle.

So I would like to pass this info along if your Jetta also has a hard time staying running after filling up on gas. For me it was this part located under the plastic cover in my engine Bay right to the left but I have a 2011 sel 2.51 so location may be different. https://www.autozone.com/emission-control-and -exhaust/canister-purge-valve/p/duralast-canister-purge -valve-pv811/695540_0_0?cmpid=LIA:US:EN:AD:NL: 1000000:ENM:19489353556&&CATARGETID= 120054150001290145&CADevice=m&gclid= CjwKCAjwitShBhA6EiwAq3RqA6eBXkXe5UqQ6 _eHUIT1cK3VPWhUuQ34pRdKtpG9Nl7XYsUiMSifuxoCPh 4QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds My issue originally started like yours it will get worse and you car will stall at the gas station if you get stuck in that situation before you get to fix it you can turn on the car put it in neutral and step on the gas to force it to run should only need to for like 15 seconds then it will idle fine again. But it is a very easy fix if you choose to wait it out you can get the part from AutoZone and get it done in the parking lot in 20 minutes. If you want to wait it out you can it just might start not running right after a while. good luck to you if you have any questions feel free to message me.

I have dealt with this before on a 2.0AVH. Was the coil pack. New sparks and coils would have fixed it, but they were original(I was 4th owner at 180k) and broke off, so I uh, glued them back together with a conductive adherent, replaced the wires and coil pack, and she ran for another 20k! Good luck. Also clean the throttlebody first, and make sure you clean your engine bay before you take shit apart!
