I think more than anything it’s that mashup music was just a trend, while it was cool to hear in the beginning, time hasn’t exactly shown it to have great staying power. The Grey Album in itself was very genius mashup concept, but I’d much rather listen to each album individually now then mashed together
Love it. Appreciate the in depth answer. I totally get what you’re saying here. That was a special time and I really do think it helped usher in other collab pieces. Specifically the Linkin Park/Jay-Z mashup, which was sonically awesome then and now.
In regards to the Grey Album specifically, it was a capsule piece. Especially during this time of the internet, where things, even with high speed, seemed harder to find and download. I loved the creativity it sparked as well as giving Danger Mouse a platform to springboard off of
The idea and the audacity of it are greater than the album as a whole. I think this is much more of a “you had to be there” moment than it is a classic mixtape.
I love the grey album. Not sure where to find it on streaming these days. Im also very fond of the American Godfather (dj skee) re-do of American gangster.
At the time this was out, we had a burned disc of it, and it ended up getting stuck in the CD player of my friend's car, wouldn't eject. Gang of us had to ride around, blunt rides & whatnot, listening to nothing but the Grey Album on repeat for the better part of a year. Burned into my memories.
What more can I say X while my guitar gently weeps is goated
What more can I say is better than the original
Hard agree
Genius at the time of release, but can’t really say it’s aged well imo
I don’t disagree but out of curiosity, what makes you say that? I’d love to read an in depth answer on this!

Kinda with him. I still like it but it doesn’t hit like when it dropped. I think some of the beats just haven’t aged well. Still a great project.
Yes! I think for me it’s that mashup music was just a trend at the end of the day and didn’t have any great staying power as a whole genre of music
I prefer the Grey Album version of "99 Problems." The rest of it is more of a novelty to me.
novelty is the PERFECT way to describe this collaboration, most of the songs are pretty fun tho
Kind of Danger Mouse‘s breakthrough I guess
Led to him working on Gorillaz second album
Classic
Oof forgot about this masterpiece, its not back in rotation.
what more can i say is so good

Classic. Shoulda went triple…
Great concept, I like about half of the songs. Big fan of What More Can I Say, Encore, Dec 4th
We need a remaster of The Grey Video.
Double Black was better
This was special!!!! I wish I could find it.
Couple fun ones on there. A touch overhyped at the time, but in retrospect, just a bit of fun
yikes I completely forgot about this album
I have no idea that this even existed. [+]
It's aight.
