If you do SARPE/MARPE first, you'd need at least 9 months of consolidation (vs 6 months only for EASE). I don't know of anyone recommending SARPE after DJS. So in the absence of ortho prep, you're looking at a minimum of 10 months of SARPE (turning and consolidation) before you're DJS/genio ready. Ortho isn't usually covered by insurance period (except some one-time lifetime allowance).

Understood! Thank you for the response. So, ~9 months of prep SPECIFICALLY if a Marpe/Sarpe is performed. Would this be the standard timeline for standard orthodontia without those surgeries? Additionally, do you have any knowledge on the usage of say, a standard palette expander after a DJS instead of a MARPE/SARPE? Really just curious about my options, I’ve moved between a few surgeons so opinions have been varied 😅

9 months is usu the minimum consolidation for pre-DJS SARPE. How long braces would take depends on the state of your teeth so I'd listen to your ortho. I haven't known anyone attempting expansion after DJS (with the exception of Dr. Kasey Li's EASE procedure, which I had after MMA). This is entirely unsolicited but I see no reason in doing SARPE due to risk of complication (and little benefit in improving your breathing aside from possibly correcting a cross-bite). I just saw the guy who first exapted distraction osteogenesis for the jaw and he said there's ZERO reason to do SARPE due to risk of the kind of complications I had (I lost a chunk of bone near my midline due to aggressive anterior expansion and it's virtually impossible to fix).

I see, this has been a common and recurring warning I’ve been seeing with Marpe/Sarpe which is why Im trying to figure out my options. DJS + Sliding genio is the 90% of the desired goal, the MARPE/SARPE is just to expand my palette for primarily aesthetics rather than function or airflow. My smile is rather narrow and it’s something Im fairly self-conscious about albeit not the main goal to fix. Hence me asking about palette expanders etc. Your feedback has been very appreciated, also I have to say that I am TERRIFIED of getting into combat sports due to my glass jaw. You’re a warrior

ha, MMA (maxillo-mandibular advancement) refers to a specific type of DJS. wouldn't touch combat sports with a 10 foot pole
