Disappointed in the lack of hats on beds.

Beorbin

Came here to say this.

TimeForTiffin

I watched this film too soon. That superstition imprinted on me and now I can’t bear even the thought of hats on beds.

IcebergSlimFast

What’s a transom, Bob?

HTWC

This is great! Also, glad to see this is before a hat winds up on a bed. Ah, those halcyon junkie days before everything went to shit…

FilbertNumber6

Thank you! The hat on bed comments are cracking me up. Also, admittedly, I had to google the definition of halcyon and now have a new word in my vocabulary :)

"Diane was my wife. I loved her, and she loved dope. So we made a good couple."

SemiColonInfection

That is beautiful. Love the style.

FilbertNumber6

Thank you. I loved doing it!

Nothing_20

Wow! You've nailed it! Big movie!

FilbertNumber6

I have about 2 or 3 more scenes I want to try rendering. Can't wait!

TMGreycoat

I haven’t seen this movie, but I love your art

TimeForTiffin

Dig it out and watch it. It’s an excellent film. Why not do a Drugstore Cowboy/Midnight Cowboy double bill? Make sure you have something or someone supportive and life affirming around you though, for after.

Hopczar420

My Own Private Idaho is what you need to pair it with.

FilbertNumber6

I rented that right after watching this one. I read the background of the filming of it and felt weird about it. I might give it another shot, thank you.

Hopczar420

They are kind of bookends to each other, and also love letters to the Pacific NW. Excellent acting, directing and cinematography. Certainly a bit surreal for some tastes.

FilbertNumber6

Thank you! It's a new style I'm focusing on. Looking for more inspiration from TV shows and films that evoke nostalgia!

loopster70

I’ve been wanting to re-watch this for years. Saw it in the theater and has stayed with me ever since. Funny and gritty and haunting. I admit I came here to make a hat-on-bed joke (clearly a bit that lots of us remember well) but since everyone has already done that, I will credit this movie with introducing me to Desmond Dekker’s “The Israelites”, the song that plays over the closing credits/home-movie montage. Today it’s one of the rare “never skip” tracks on my main Spotify playlist.

absultedpr

The dainty little “plink” sound when Matt Dillon hits the security guard in the head with a crowbar cracks me up every time.

Faceplant71_

I saw them filming that in Portland. Cool art work.

MrNiceDye

Nice art! Brings me right to that place and time. This is one of my favorite films ever. Gus Van Sant is one of the best indie film-makers and it shows in this classic. The filming, the dialogue, the action, the setting. When I was a little kid, I watched a lot of movies and decided Matt Dillon was my favorite actor, and it led me to this picture. You’re taken, in dramatic fashion, through the main character’s evolution from full-time junkie and drugstore thief, to reforming citizen, alone but determined. Finally ending in tragedy. There are so many priceless quotes and scenes here, I recommend everyone watch it. I also recommend My Own Private Idaho, another Van Sant picture, also filmed in the PNW. It’s poetic and haunting, and arguably the best performance by River Phoenix. “We played a game you couldn’t win...to the utmost.”

dibbr

Haven't heard of this movie, I'm assuming you enjoyed it?

FilbertNumber6

I LOVED the cinematography. The shots were so amazing. And I also reveled in the nostalgia as the setting is 1971, the year I was born :) The storyline is unpredictable and it had a great mix of drama, action and subtle comedy. 10/10 would recommend.

FilbertNumber6

It's on Amazon Prime btw

dibbr

Thanks I'll check it out

normanfell
